  • How to specify an outer join in query builder

    I've very quickly built a large query with the query builder, and it works fine, but only produces 9 out of 2200 records - so I need to change it to an outer join.
    My problem is that I can't seem to find a way to specify an outer join. I've tried editing the query that query builder formed, but it won't let me.
    I know I can capture the query, edit it and run it in sql developer, and that works fine, but I want to use query builder as it is the fastest way I know of to quickly add and remove items - my users are unsure of exactly what to include.
    I know it is kind of a trivial question, but i've searched the forum, the manual, the web and no luck
    Thanks for any help you can give
    Glenn

    Hi Glenn,
    When you use the Query Builder to create the sql statement, you should click on the empty square to the right of the fields on each table to create the join. When you've done this, you should see a line drawn between the two tables. Click on this line and a small popup appears allowing you to select inner, left outer or right outer joins.
    Once the report has been created, though, you need to edit the statement. For example, if you use the Query Builder to join DEPT to EMP based on the DEPTNO field on both tables, you get:
    select      "DEPT"."DEPTNO" as "DEPTNO",
          "DEPT"."DNAME" as "DNAME",
          "DEPT"."LOC" as "LOC",
          "EMP"."EMPNO" as "EMPNO",
          "EMP"."ENAME" as "ENAME",
          "EMP"."JOB" as "JOB",
          "EMP"."MGR" as "MGR",
          "EMP"."HIREDATE" as "HIREDATE"
    from      "EMP" "EMP",
          "DEPT" "DEPT"
    where   "DEPT"."DEPTNO"="EMP"."DEPTNO"Change this to:
    select      "DEPT"."DEPTNO" as "DEPTNO",
          "DEPT"."DNAME" as "DNAME",
          "DEPT"."LOC" as "LOC",
          "EMP"."EMPNO" as "EMPNO",
          "EMP"."ENAME" as "ENAME",
          "EMP"."JOB" as "JOB",
          "EMP"."MGR" as "MGR",
          "EMP"."HIREDATE" as "HIREDATE"
    from      "EMP" "EMP"
          LEFT OUTER JOIN "DEPT" "DEPT" ON "DEPT"."DEPTNO"="EMP"."DEPTNO"Andy

  • Using dimension attributes in the Query Builder Bean

    All...
    I am developing an HTML client based tool using the JSP tags. I wish to create a report that selects the appropriate dimension value based upon an attribute.
    But...
    Using the query builder I can not select dimension values based upon dimension attributes. Is this possible? The only use I have found for the attributes is when I am sorting my selected diemsnion values.
    Thanks in advance
    Dylan.

    1. Java Client QueryBuilder has support for selecting dimension members based on an attribute.
    To use this functionality, go to Dimensional Panel -> Conditions tab. Drill on Match group of conditions. The attribute condition appears as the last available condition, but only for dimensions that have attributes.
    To test this, use BIBDEMO schema supplied with BI Beans and look at conditions for Product dimension.
    2. If you wish to display dimension attributes and their values in the HTML client UI,
    here is how you can retrieve attributes and their values for a dimension:
    (e.g. for Product dimension in BIBDEMO)
    String dimensionID = "MDM!D_BIBDEMO.PRODUCT";
    String hierarchyID = null;
    MDDimension dimension = metadataManager.getDimensionByUniqueID(dimensionID);
    MDHierarchy hierarchy = dimension.getDefaultHierarchy();
    if (hierarchy != null)
    hierarchyID = hierarchy.getUniqueID();
    // Retrieve all the attributes for this dimension
    MDAttribute[] attributes = dimension.getAttributes();
    if (attributes != null && attributes.length > 0)
    String attributeID = null;
    AttributeListStep attrStep = null;
    Selection sel = null;
    MetadataMap map = new MetadataMap(new String[] {MetadataMap.METADATA_VALUE});
    for (int i=0; i<attributes.length; i++)
    // Get the unique ID for the attribute
    attributeID = attributes.getUniqueID();
    // Create and evaluate an AttributeListStep
    attrStep = new AttributeListStep(dimensionID, hierarchyID, attributeID);
    sel = new Selection(dimensionID);
    sel.setHierarchy(hierarchyID);
    sel.addStep(attrStep);
    // Evaluate the AttributeListStep and get the DataAccess
    DataAccess da = query.createQueryAccess().getDataAccess(sel, map);
    // Walk the DataAccess and get the attribute values
    if (da != null)
    int extent = da.getEdgeExtent(DataDirector.COLUMN_EDGE);
    for (int i=0; i<extent; i++)
    // Get the attribute value
    strValue = (String)da.getMemberMetadata(DataDirector.COLUMN_EDGE, 0, i, MetadataMap.METDATA_VALUE);
    // Add the value to a drop down or another UI element...

  • Save layout of queries in SQL Developer query builder?

    Sometimes queries are very complex and moving tables around in the graphical view is really helpfull to better understand them.
    Unfortunately this layout does not get saved with "save" (because this is a simple text file).
    Once upon there was a query builder (included with designer 2000 and later vom 1991 to 1998) that had a proprietary format (.brw) to just do that: Save a query including layout.
    Any chance to save the layout of SQL Developer query builder queries?

    I dont think there is any way to save the layout for the query, you can request an enhancement on the Exchange for this http://sqldeveloper.oracle.com/
    But if you only need to restore the query you are working with later, or move it to another workstation and continue editing using the query builder, you only need the SQL code generated; when you paste it in an opened worksheet (on the same database or even a clone with the same structure) the query builder is able to resume working just fine with default positioning for the table objects.
    If you hand edit the query and insert some SQL manually then the query builder may stop working for particularly complex statements, in this case it will warn you and disable itself.

  • Clarifications about Query Builder and Additional Default Layout in Reports 6i

    1) Is Query Builder re-entrant in Reports 6i? If yes, what is the method. As when I tried to re-eter, it gave me message '..... Syntax Error'.
    2) IN 'ADDITIONAL Default Layout', Reports 6i does not allow group field to be
    included in 'the fields to be printed' list. It allows but in next tab it omits that group field.
    As a result no repeating frame for the Group is generated in the 'ADDITIONAL Default Layout'.
    What is wrong?
    Pl. guide.
    Tariq

    2) IN 'ADDITIONAL Default Layout', Reports 6i does not allow group
    field to be included in 'the fields to be printed' list. It allows
    but in next tab it omits that group field.
    As a result no repeating frame for the Group is generated in >the 'ADDITIONAL Default Layout'. Not sure I fully understand the question but you seem to be saying that if you select a field in the ADL tool, it doesn't show up in the layout. This can only happen if you select a field in the "Fields" tab from a group you haven't selected in the "Groups" tab.
    Ideally Reports shouldn't show these fields since you haven't selected the groups. Unfortunately it does and you need to ensure all the appropriate groups have been selected in the "Groups" tab.
    At least it will tell you if you have selected a group but haven't selected any fields for the group or if you haven't selected enough groups for the type of layout you're trying to create.

  • Query Builder within SQL Developer 2.1 versus Query Builder Version 6.0.7.1

    Dear all,
    dear Sue Harper,
    we use Oracle 10g (upgrade to 11g is planed) and used the Oracle Query Builder Version 6.0.7.1 by now unless we got to know about the SQL Developer 2.1 including the Query Builder a few weeks ago to produce our SQL statements an efficient way.
    Even tho the SQL Developer 2.1 Query Builder already has some nice features, like sorting the data fields ascending, export to excel, etc, that the Oracle Query Builder Version 6.0.7.1 did not have had, we miss some essential features, like the in-statement, define column, etc while on the other side tables are not included in SQL-code unless fields are selected or i.e. date fields cannot be queried in the where conditions.
    I read the release notes and know that the SQL Developer 2.1 Query Builder is scheduled for rewrite in the next release.
    Does it make any sense to summarized all things we noticed and get in touch with whomever it may concern?
    Btw, if it would be possible to define a location for the stored connections within the SQL Developer 2.1 it would be very helpful... When starting SQL Developer 2.1 in our Windows Vista network environment it never finds the connection settings (file) automatically and we have to re-import the connections from a pre-defined directory.
    Nevertheless, the SQL Developer 2.1 is a pretty user-friendly and most times reliable tool we are thankful for.
    Kind regards,
    Stefan Wagner

    @user12092220
    Yep, I saw your post; sorry for not replying, but i thought it's pretty the same problem i have. ;)
    The missing possibility to query date-fields in the where clause is really one of a many things i miss in the SQL Dev Query Builder, i am sure you use an "in" statement as well as we do. I think going back to the manual creation of the where condition like we had in Version 6.0.7.1.0 should be okay with most users, at least additional to the current solution as long as the rest of the query can be built within the graphic user interface. Further to save and open a query in gui mode is really, really important for us. Not to mention that the boxes for the tables cannot be stretched over a certain extend and i cant separate the columns any longer :/
    Other than that, SQL Developer is a pretty nice tool in my eyes, it's free and hopefully Version 3.0 will be closer to what we would like the SQL Developer to be like.

  • Query builder installation

    Hi,
    please excuse my english.
    I have a 9.2.0.1.0 installed database
    I would like to use Query Builder and schema Builder from Oracle 6i

    In fact the repository is missing
    I've tried to run BRWIN60 in <OracleHome>\BROWSE\SQL to create the desired tables but I've got the message : These scripts lets you install the Oracle Query Builder system tables.

    The scripts is what you need to run.
    Check out that the directory you run them from is writeable.

  • GUI Query Builder for Users

    Hey all,
    For anyone who was following my last post, I did convince my
    boss to buy CF, so epic win there. I am now starting to replace
    some our existing software with CF based code. One of the first
    things we would like to do is setup a "Query builder" type of
    thing. Basically we have a database with over 100 fields in a
    particular table. I need some kind of interface that will allow a
    user to easily build a complex query that can include any number of
    those fields. Before I start reinventing the wheel I was wondering
    if anyone had code for something like this already or could point
    in the direction of a place that might. All it needs to do is put a
    nice front end on an SQL query basically, and really only for the
    where statement part of it. We are always going to be selecting the
    same info, from the same table, but what records we select will be
    very very different. Thanks in advance.

    A slightly more fleshed out example: Code is CF8 based, some
    features
    not compatible with older versions, but easily convertible.
    <cfscript>
    aTest = [
    label = 'foobar',
    updateable = false,
    type = 'picklist'
    label = 'george',
    updateable = true,
    type = 'int'
    label = 'nix',
    updateable = true,
    type = 'picklist'
    label = 'gracie',
    updateable = false,
    type = 'text'
    </cfscript>
    <cfdump var="#aTest#">
    <cfset FormItems = structNew()>
    <cfloop array="#aTest#" index="key">
    <cfset aTemp = structNew()>
    <cfset aTemp.label = key.label>
    <cfset aTemp.updateable = key.updateable>
    <cfset aTemp.type = key.type>
    <cfif NOT structKeyExists(FormItems,key['type'])>
    <cfset FormItems[key['type']] = arrayNew(1)>
    </cfif>
    <cfset arrayAppend(FormItems[key['type']],aTemp)>
    </cfloop>
    <cfdump var="#FormItems#">
    <cfoutput>
    <cfloop collection="#formItems#" item="elemAry">
    <h1>#elemAry#</h1>
    <cfloop array="#formItems[elemAry]#" index="element">
    <p>#element.label# - #element.updateable# -
    #element.type#</p>
    </cfloop>
    </cfloop>
    </cfoutput>
    Will need some modification to match your situation and there
    is some
    redundancy that could be eliminated. But should be a good
    proof of concept.

  • Query builder within application

    Hi ,
    is that possible to call query builder
    as a pop up window from the application ?
    Thanks ...

    Hi,
    Not sure, if it is too late for replying for this issue. But, I found the same issue today when I was trying to build the graph(multi-line chart) making use of Function Body returning SQL.
    "'SVG Chart error: ORA-20001: line_chart error: ORA-20001: get_data error: ORA-20001: Function returning SQL query: Query cannot be parsed within the Application Builder.'"
    Here is the work around for the problem
    Step 1.
    Define two hidden items. (depending on the number of series you are having, in this case, it is two). name it like P25_GRAPH_SQL1 and P25_GRAPH_SQL2.
    Step 2.
    Write Onload Computation for these two variables and set the values for these variables using the same Function Body returning SQL which you make use in graph(multi-line chart ).
    Step 3.
    Use the variables P25_GRAPH_SQL1 and P25_GRAPH_SQL2 in the graphs(multi-line chart).
    Step 4.
    Define the content in the series as(nothing else)
    &P25_GRAPH_SQL1.
    and for the series 2 as
    &P25_GRAPH_SQL2.
    Please do not include any other code with this and just make use the above code. Please note that you need to mention the "&" ampersand at the beginning and dot at the end of the variable.
    Step 5.
    Try running the graph(multi-line chart ) now.
    Hurray!! it should show you the graph without any issues provided you have the proper SQL mentioned.
    Step 6.
    Then, give me a treat if it works!!
    Cheers!!

  • Query Builder wildcard

    Can query builder use wildcard?
    My query is like following
    group.1_path=/var/statistics/pages/content/geometrixx
    orderby=@views
    orderby.index=true
    orderby.sort=desc
    The result will contain
    /var/statistics/pages/content/geometrixx/en/products/using-extjs-widgets/.stats/2013  (crxde,  html,  json)
    /var/statistics/pages/content/geometrixx/en/products/using-extjs-widgets/.stats/2013/01  (crxde,  html,  json)
    /var/statistics/pages/content/geometrixx/en/products/using-extjs-widgets/.stats/2013/01/21   (crxde,  html,  json)
    However, we just expect comparing the "day hit count" only.
    Should I apply wild card on this?
    I have tried to use wildcard but no result after search.

    Hi,
    /var/statistics/pages/content/geometrixx/en/products/using-extjs-widge ts/.stats/2013  (crxde,  html,  json)
    /var/statistics/pages/content/geometrixx/en/products/using-extjs-widge ts/.stats/2013/01  (crxde,  html,  json)
    /var/statistics/pages/content/geometrixx/en/products/using-extjs-widge ts/.stats/2013/01/21  (crxde,  html,  json)
    The result contains the statistic included year, month and day.
    However, in my case, I only interested for those hit count about day. What should be the query to do so?

  • Query Builder Help - Joins

    Can anyone point me in the right direction for doing joins in query builder?
    Thanks!
    Brian
    [email protected]

    Click on the left side of the screen at the
    arrow. Type in the where clause without
    actually typing in "where". You can actually include the columns in the where clause by checking on the columns in the tables present on the right side. Once you are done, press ENTER.
    You are done creating where clause. You can look at the SQL it created for you by clicking on the menu button called "show SQL".
    Hope that helps,
    Oracle University Instructor.
    P.S: If you attend one of our reports or forms - I class we teach this in class. Moreover, the course material we give out has a complete section on Report Builder.
    Go to http:\\education.oracle.com for more info on class info.
