Incompatible Objects in Designer

Hi,
I am having 4 Folders(classes) in my Universe, how to set incompatible objects.
Ex:
Folder1:
Folder2:
Folder3:
Folder4:
Compatible folders(combination):
1-->Folder1 & Folder2
2-->Folder1 & Folder3
3-->Folder1 & Folder4
If i selected one object from Folder2 & another object from Folder3, then it will show incompatible objects
If i selected one object from Folder3 & another object from Folder4, then it will show incompatible objects
If i selected one object from Folder2 & another object from Folder4, then it will show incompatible objects
Please give me solution.
Thanks,
N Praveen

Hi,
Cause
This error is caused by any of the following problems in the definition of the universe:
There are incompatible objects in the universe and the universe designer did not set the option that allows multiple SQL statements for each context.
There are no contexts in the universe and the query has created a loop.
The query objects exclude all possible SQL choices for an aggregate aware function.
The universe contains an object which references more than one table on separate contexts.
Action
The universe designer needs to make appropriate modifications to the universe with Designer.
Detect For Loops Or Aliases in your Universe .
Check The structure for Folder 2 & Folder 3 Objects (same for other).
Please Check The Links Below.

  • Incompatible objects scenario

    Hi Techiies,
    I have a complex scenario in my Designer,
    Well let me explain my scenario...
    I have a main table(not a dimension not a fact) it is joined(NO CARDINALITIES SET) by 7 different table(derived tables). my main table's column are used in result objects and the other table objects are used at Query filter's. Till now every thing was clear
    Now the complexity for me was that I have another main table(not a dimension not a fact) and which needs to be joined by same derived tables and the same scenario as above .
    I took the help of contexts
    1. context - 1 for the first table and respective derived tables
    2. context -2 for the second table and respective derived tables.
    When i try to build the report I am getting Incompatible objects error OR no data to retrieve ( though the data is available) ...How to over come this scenario.
    Thanks in Advance........

    Hi,
    Check if  "Multiple statements for each context" option is checked under Universe Parameters --> SQL tab.
    Also copy and paste the SQL (which is not giving results) in the SQL editor and check where it is failing.
    Possible checkpoints could be:
    1. Execute a simple count(*) on all tables coming in FROM clause.
    2. If #1 is successful, comment the conditions and execute the SQL only with joins.
    3. If #2 succeeds, the joins are defined properly. If #2 fails, there is one or few joins which are not returning data even the tables have data.
    4. If #2 succeeds, check the conditions in WHERE clause one by one and check which condition is not giving data.
    Hope it will help.

    Yuvraj

  • Java.lang.VerifyError - Incompatible object argument for function call

    Hi all,
    I'm developing a JSP application (powered by Tomcat 4.0.1 in JDK 1.3, in Eclipse 3.3). Among other stuff I have 3 classes interacting with an Oracle database, covering 3 use cases - renaming, adding and deleting an database object. The renaming class simply updates the database with a String variable it receives from the request object, whereas the other two classes perform some calculations with the request data and update the database accordingly.
    When the adding or deleting classes are executed, by performing the appropriate actions through the web application, Tomcat throws the following:
    java.lang.VerifyError: (class: action/GliederungNewAction, method: insertNewNode signature: (Loracle/jdbc/driver/OracleConnection;Ljava/lang/String;Ljava/lang/String;Ljava/lang/String;Ljava/lang/String;I)V) Incompatible object argument for function call

         at org.apache.catalina.core.ApplicationFilterChain.internalDoFilter(ApplicationFilterChain.java:247)
    ...The renaming works fine though. I have checked mailing lists and forums as well as contacted the company's java support but everything I have tried out so far, from exchanging the xerces.jar files found in JDOM and Tomcat to rebuidling the project didn't help.
    I just can't explain to myself why this error occurs and I don't see how some additional Java code in the other 2 classes could cause it?
    I realize that the Tomcat and JDK versions I'm using are totally out of date, but that's company's current standard and I can't really change that.
    Here's the source code. I moved parts of the business logic from Java to Oracle recently but I left the SQL statements that the Oracle stored procedures are executing if it helps someone.

    After further googling I figured out what was causing the problem: in eclipse I was referring to external libraries located in eclipse/plugins directory, whereas Tomcat was referring to the same libraries (possibly older versions) in it's common/lib directory.

  • ABAP Object X Design Patterns X Extreme Program

    Hi Evebody,
    I’m postgraduate in Object Oriented Analysis and Programming.
    I’ve been working with ABAP procedural development for two years and I’ve started to work with ABAP Objects has few months.
    I’d like to get deeply knowledge in my development’s skills, could someone tell me if <b>ABAP Object X Designer Patterns X Extreme Program</b> is a good path to follow?
    I’d like to share material and guides about this topic.
    I’ve already bought these books to help me.
    <b>ABAP Objects</b> - H. Keller; Hardcover <i>(Pre-Order)</i>
    <b>Design Patterns Explained</b> - Alan Shalloway
    I’ll be very grateful with any help.

    > And do you think these themes are a great combination
    > for ABAP development?
    Design pattern are very abstract and can be used with any OO programming language. The implementations will differ but the core concepts are always the same.
    XP is an agile development process and can also be used with any programming language.
    Learning what design pattern are and how to use them is very important in my opinion. Most companies expect that you are familiar and have experience with them.
    Extreme Programming (XP) on the other side is different. When I began to explore XP it got me started on how software should be developed in general. Since the concepts behind XP are quite different, it should at least stimulate you to start thinking about how you develop software at the moment and if there might be better ways of doing it.
    If you have only time to study one subject go for the design pattern. You might also consider reading the following books if you want to improve your OO coding skills:

  • Exception Handling in Object Oriented Design

    I am developing a huge web based project using Object Oriented design and java,srvlets ,jsp etc ,I am using 3-tier archtecture.I dont understand,how i should handle exceptions in my project.ie.If there is some exception in the base modules how should it be handled.What kind of excpetion Structure should i use,How many exception classes should be made etc,
    Can someone help me in this regard

    A couple things I have found to be good practices for exception handling in an n-tier architecture:
    1. Don't expose all the internal exceptions of a tier to the client of the tier. Create a more useful, descriptive set of exceptions (or use the appropriate predefined exceptions) to throw up to the client.
    For example, on one project, we are doing database access among other things in the "service" tier, which is accessed by the web tier. We catch the SQLExceptions, PersistenceExceptions (a custom exception), and others, and throw a more useful exception that the client will know how to handle such as a NoMeasurementResultsException if the client asks for measurement results when we have none.
    2. Chain your exceptions and/or log the root cause in the tier that re-throws a different exception. There is nothing more aggravating than not knowing why, when you are debugging a problem, you are getting a NoMeasurementResultsException when you know that there ARE results in the database.
    Hope these ideas help in your design.
    Cheers,
    Colin

    Hello Arnold,
    Can you provide us the exact information about the implementation version and Ant-version of the cesession.jar file that you are using.
    This could be observed by opening the jar file using winrar or winzip, then go to the MANIFEST.MF file present inside META-INF folder.
    Once you will open the MANIFEST.MF file, please let us know the first seven lines present inside the same fle.
    Thanks,

  • Unable to write more than 10 case statements in an object in designer

    unable to write more than 10 case statements in an object in designer
    XI 3.0 and XI 3.1
    Please let me know, any known issues.

    Hi,
    yes this is the limitation you cant write more that 10 case statments but you can reduce the number of time you use the case in your object.
    For ex:
    If you are writing few conditions on one field then you can add the login in one case only.
    case when SAL between 100 and 1000 then 'lowsal'
            when SAL between 1000 and 2000 then 'medsal'
            when sal between 2000 and 3000 then highsal
    else
    case when ...then ....
    else
    end
    end
    by following the above ex you can solve your problem.
    But if you are writing case statement based on dofferent columns then write 10 case statements and remaining conditions you can add at the report level.
    using if else condition.
    Hope this will help you....
    Cheers,

    I have a report with demographics in (gender, ethnicity) and have added a new field but when I drag it into the report it says 'Cannot drop here. Incompatible Object'. Does anyone know why the object would be incompatible?

    Hey you have to answer following qns:
    1. Are you using Multiple Dataproviders/ Universes??
    2. Are you having multiple queries from differnet datasources??
    3. Which version of BO??
    If you have above, then use Merged Dimensions option available from BO.
    1. Find the icon at toolbar after Create Variable. And Merge common Objects from different Universes/Queries.
    2. Go to Document properties-- Right click and Check "Auto-merge common dimensions".
    Now you can go...
    Thank You!!

    Can you recommend a good book on Object Oriented Design with lots of practical examples? I already have:

  • Incompatible object argument for function call exception

    I am hoping someone has seen this issue before.
    Running CF 7.0.1.116466 with JRun 4.
    I have a 3rd party search engine application running on a
    separate server. I interface with the engine via their Java API. I
    am able to use the search engine when executing using a home grown
    Java application. It also worked with CF 6. However, when I try to
    implement the same cold in CF, it fails with the exception attached
    below. I am able to successfully create the objects. The error
    occurs when the objects attempt to connect with the engine.
    I have also attached the code that is causing the errors.
    "seObj" creates an interface with the search engine. It is
    constructed with the server address as a parameter. It does not
    attempt to contact the engine when it is first constructed.
    "dsObj" allows access to specific content in the engine. This
    is where the connection to the engine is attempted and the error
    occurs.
    Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi, Thanks.
    But the problem is still there.
    If I put
    public class SimpleThread extends Thread
    No problem, but if I put
    public class SimpleThread implements Runnable

    Please refer to the following code:
    public class SimpleThread implements Runnable {

    simpleThread.notify();
    System.out.println("Arrived");

  • Incompatible Objects Error,

    Hi folks,
    I am getting incompatible objects error while selecting objects from two different context in a single report ?
    Shouldnt these objects get synchronized after query execution and displayed in a single table.
    (Multiple SQL statements per context and multiple context selection options are checked in for universe parameters.)
    Please let me know how this can be fixed.
    Thanks,
    Rahul

    Hi Rahul,
    To get rid of the incompatible objects error, you need to merge the common dimension of two BO queries. For eg:
    DP1: Region, Area, Sub-Area, Key Fig1
    DP2: D-Region, D-Area, D-Sub-Area,  Key-Fig2
    You need to merge the two DP on the following:  Region -> D-Region ; Area -> D-Area ; Sub-Area -> D-Sub-Area
    You will have the option of merging dimesion on infoview or rich client tool bar.
