Increase lyfecyle applet cache on java runtime

Hi .
Applet in IE6 on windows XP SP1, with java 15.0_09.
I launch 3 times the applet with the same codebase.
I launch the applet on first time on i go to a transaction after i launch in the same IE window the applet for the second time and i go in another transaction. I return in the first applet, that reload it in the first transaction when i do the same action on second applet i return in the second transaction. I this point there is no problem ...
But when i launch the applet on third time and i go to another transaction, i lost the context of my first applet when i come back in.
On tracing i can see that java use a "lifecycle applet cache", and this cache have 2 slots, that the reason that i lost the first applet context on the third launch.
My question i how can i increase the number of slots on "lifecycle applet cache" ?

Unfortunately, this did not resolve the issue. I have been doing a bit more looking and it appears I'm getting a null resource error on reload/refresh:

}During startup, it tries to create a new FancyWindow, which calls initComponents(). Inside initComponents is a call to create a JEditorPane.
The function runs fine, and I am able to create a new JEditorPane; however, when I do:
jedit.setText("Text Here");I get my null error (tracing through the calls, it looks like it's unable to initialize the editorkit.
This does not happen on a normal first-time load. It does not happen if I completely close the browser and restart it to re-run the applet, but if I just try to refresh it, it seemingly can't get memory for this?
Edit: It looks like this may be a regression in 1.6.0_22 and later: 1.6.0_22 HTMLEditorKit throws NullPointerException when reloaded

    I'm sorry if that what I'm looking for is described elsewhere. I couldn't find it. I seem to have a bug with the latest Apple's java implementation (1.5) downloaded with the latest Software Update.
    I have to switch off applet caching for a certain applet and tried to do this via the Java preference app. It seems that it doesn't work using the offered checkbox. Because everytime when I check it and leave the dialog and turn back it's still checked. I tried it with the deployment properties file but had no luck not knowing (finding) the correct parameter to set false.
    As setting the cache size to zero didn't resolve the problem finally I tried to set the cache path to "/dev/zero" what for sure is the worst solution but it works out. Caching is disabled (This way I discovered that trying to write the cache path in the box in the preference pane you can write it only in reverse manner! llun/ved/ No, it's not a joke)
    Anyone could tell me the right parameter for the deployment properties file that I can correct this situation?

  • Java Runtime Environment 6.0 update 11  NOT loading Java Applet

    As soon as I have installed Java Runtime Environment 6.0 update 11, my web based applications Applet is not loading. The applet only loads after minimize and the maximize my IE 6.0 Browser. As soon as I uninstalled (removed) Java Runtime Environment 6.0 update 11 from my system, everything works fine.
    I have Java Runtime Environment 6.0 update 3 and Java Runtime Environment 6.0 update 5 on my system. Please help to find a fix for this issue.

    Many of these strange browser problems can be solved by launching the applet using webstart. Is there any reason this applet has to be embedded in a browser window?

    Virtual Memory of tomcat(version is 6.0.35) is very high and jvm crash even though we decrease java heap size from 1024M to 500M.

    HASPJava.dll is used by verification  License and is invoked less and can't use a lot of native memory.
    Our business is communicating between java and COM component. In order to implement it, we used JavaCom to generate java class for COM component.
    Memory of COM component is little, but Native Memory is high.
    Who used JavaCom and did you meet this problem?

  • Why is the Java runtime resource hungry and slow?

    Hi,
    First of all let me make it clear that I'm not here to bash Java. I'm a big fan of the technology. In fact I believe in its potential as it is the only true 100% cross-platform runtime. Now that it has been open sourced, it has just made me happier,
    However, the only factor which has been hurting me is that the Java runtime is resource hungry and has long startup times.
    Consider a Adobe Flash .swf file with lot of animation, it is opened by the Flash player in a snap. On the other hand Java applets (with same amount of graphics) take several seconds to load even from the local machine and also require much more memory. With the introduction of Flex flash might become a platform of choice for RIA. Java FX has made matters worse. The loading time of Java FX is much higher than that applets themselves.
    The problem with Flash Player is it not 100% platform independent. For example the latest version of player was released for Linux several months after it was released for Windows and Mac OS X.
    Is there any way to make the Java runtime use less memory and start faster? If this can be achieved I feel that applets are a better choice over Flex for building RIAs. After all appearance is not everything and definitely Java is a much more robust platform than Flash.

    I'm running it on Kubuntu Linux. Even on this Flash Player is much faster at loading embedded Flash animations than JRE loads applets.
    Seriously, if alone the speed of loading applets can be increased, the world will have an extremely robust platform for RIAs.

    I found that when an applet is cached (using Sun jvm), it's placed in the
    Sun\Java\Deployment\cache\javapi\jar\ folder. The files are saved with
    somekind of checksum added to them (fx: file1.jar-md5checksum.zip). Does
    this prevent hackers from modifying the applet and have the website execute
    a modified applet instead of the original one? If so, is this security
    mechanism provided with every jvm? (ie MS, IBM etc?)
    Does anyone know anything about this?

    ..is there any bugs within javas new 6 versions image caching?Non applet runtime classpath resource caching is left to browsers, AFAIU. That means that whatever the browser decides to do (from caching all files, to caching no files, to allowing the end user to remove all cached files), is correct behaviour.
    For more control over caching, add resources into Jars, and add them to the applet's runtime classpath using the archive attribute of the applet element.
    For even more control over caching, either launch the applet free-floating using Java Web Start, or deploy it within a plug-in2 architecture JRE within a web page, & hook into the JNLP API's DownloadService.

  • Java Runtime Parameters patch

    I currently have a signed applet which uses more than 96MB. To solve this obstacle I want to increase the memory heap. Is there any way, from a signed applet, to alter the Java Runtime Parameters? Ofcourse the user can alter the parameters but I want to take that trouble out of his hands. I am hoping to run a small "patch-applet" which adds the "-Xmx xxx" parameter to the JRE.

    After Java VM is launched, I don't think it is possible to change the classpath onfly. If you goal is to load test.jar on fly, you can always rely on classloader to do it. You can make your own classloader and let it to download and define the class you need.

    The only fix I know of for this issue is to reboot the host.

    Applet cache is not working on Mountain Lion(Mac 10.8)
    OS Details:  Mac 10.8
    Applet cache is not working on Safari 6 and Firefox 15.0.1 with java 7(provided by oracle) on Mac 10.8(mountain Lion) and even applets are not working  on chrome because its not supporting java 7(64 bit).
    In order to run applets on Firefox and Safari we need to install Java SE6 which provided by Apple otherwise “PlugInProcess” does not work and it show the below warning message.

    Problem solved.
    I switched to a Western Digital powered Hard Drive from the Toshiba Canvio I was using.
    I suspect the USB 3.0 did not mount correctly after the first save.
    Fortnuately the Canvio does work on my Windows 7 machine.

  • Keep getting an error message that I need to download Java Runtime Environment

    I have a one year old iMac and just downloaded OS 10.10 (Yosemite).  Since doing this 2 weeks ago, I keep getting the same error message telling me that I need to download Java Runtime Environment in order for the webpage to run properly.  I have downloaded, installed and checked the installation 3x already.  The message goes away for a day or two and then returns.
    Any idea on what I have not done correctly or need to do further?

    1. This procedure is a diagnostic test. It changes nothing, for better or worse, and therefore will not, in itself, solve the problem. But with the aid of the test results, the solution may take a few minutes, instead of hours or days.
    Don't be put off by the complexity of these instructions. The process is much less complicated than the description. You do harder tasks with the computer all the time.
    2. If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data before doing anything else. The backup is necessary on general principle, not because of anything in the test procedure. Backup is always a must, and when you're having any kind of trouble with the computer, you may be at higher than usual risk of losing data, whether you follow these instructions or not.
    There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
    3. Below are instructions to run a UNIX shell script, a type of program. As I wrote above, it changes nothing. It doesn't send or receive any data on the network. All it does is to generate a human-readable report on the state of the computer. That report goes nowhere unless you choose to share it. If you prefer, you can act on it yourself without disclosing the contents to me or anyone else.
    You should be wondering whether you can believe me, and whether it's safe to run a program at the behest of a stranger. In general, no, it's not safe and I don't encourage it.
    In this case, however, there are a couple of ways for you to decide whether the program is safe without having to trust me. First, you can read it. Unlike an application that you download and click to run, it's transparent, so anyone with the necessary skill can verify what it does.
    You may not be able to understand the script yourself. But variations of the script have been posted on this website thousands of times over a period of years. The site is hosted by Apple, which does not allow it to be used to distribute harmful software. Any one of the millions of registered users could have read the script and raised the alarm if it was harmful. Then I would not be here now and you would not be reading this message.
    Nevertheless, if you can't satisfy yourself that these instructions are safe, don't follow them. Ask for other options.
    4. Here's a summary of what you need to do, if you choose to proceed:

If you have more than one user, and the one affected by the problem is not an administrator, then please run the test twice: once while logged in as the affected user, and once as an administrator. The results may be different. The user that is created automatically on a new computer when you start it for the first time is an administrator. If you can't log in as an administrator, test as the affected user. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this section doesn’t apply. Don't log in as root.
    7. The script is a single long line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, though you may not see all of it in the browser window, and you can then copy it.     Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
    8. Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
    ☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
    ☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
    ☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
    Click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste by pressing command-V. The text you pasted should vanish immediately. If it doesn't, press the return key.
    9. If you see an error message in the Terminal window such as "Syntax error" or "Event not found," enter
    exec bash
    and press return. Then paste the script again.
    10. If you're logged in as an administrator, you'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You will not see the usual dots in place of typed characters. Make sure caps lock is off. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you make three failed attempts to enter the password, the test will run anyway, but it will produce less information. In most cases, the difference is not important. If you don't know the password, or if you prefer not to enter it, press the key combination control-C or just press return  three times at the password prompt. Again, the script will still run.
    If you're not logged in as an administrator, you won't be prompted for a password. The test will still run. It just won't do anything that requires administrator privileges.
    11. The test may take a few minutes to run, depending on how many files you have and the speed of the computer. A computer that's abnormally slow may take longer to run the test. While it's running, there will be nothing in the Terminal window and no indication of progress. Wait for the line
    [Process completed]
    to appear. If you don't see it within half an hour or so, the test probably won't complete in a reasonable time. In that case, close the Terminal window and report what happened. No harm will be done.
    12. When the test is complete, quit Terminal. The results will have been copied to the Clipboard automatically. They are not shown in the Terminal window. Please don't copy anything from there. All you have to do is start a reply to this comment and then paste by pressing command-V again.
    At the top of the results, there will be a line that begins with the words "Start time." If you don't see that, but instead see a mass of gibberish, you didn't wait for the "Process completed" message to appear in the Terminal window. Please wait for it and try again.
    If any private information, such as your name or email address, appears in the results, anonymize it before posting. Usually that won't be necessary.
    13. When you post the results, you might see an error message on the web page: "You have included content in your post that is not permitted," or "You are not authorized to post." That's a bug in the forum software. Please post the test results on Pastebin, then post a link here to the page you created.

  • Java runtime 6 (crazy) install problem - OS X 10.7.5

    Hello everyone,
    I have been reading the various threads on this issue, but found no answer to my problem:
    I am under Lion version 10.7.5 - MacBookPro
    I need Java 6 for a program I use for my work.
    When I want to install from Java Preferences, i get the following message:
    "To open “Java Preferences,” you need to install a Java SE 6 runtime, but you are not connected to the Internet." But I AM connected to the internet.
    Accroding to waht I read, I went to the Apple download files and downloaded JavaForOSX.dmg file...
    But when I want to install it, I get the message:
    "Alert: A newer version of this package is already installed."
    When I run terminal java -version
    The answer is "No Java runtime present, requesting install."
    And thus I am back to where I started...
    If you could help that would be incredibly helpful!

    I keep reading that my macintosh (dual G5 with OSX 10.4.10) came with a fully configured and ready-to-use Java runtime and development environment, however I cannot find, nor do I know how to open it. Doe anyone know how to open this up? thanks so much!

    Your JRE should already be configured so that when you double-click a self-executing jar or open a page with an Applet it will run.
    Your compiler (javac) should be available through your sheel in your terminal application.
    If none of this helps you (and it may well not) you may want to consider installing an IDE. Eclipse for example has a Mac OS version, I am sure there are others but I do not develop on Mac so I can't tell you about them.

  • Will I increase my Buffer Cache ?

    The Buffer Cache Size advise is telling me that if I increase the Buffer Cache to 1930Mb i will get a 8.83 decrease in phyiscal reads (And its get better the more I increase it)
    The question is .. can I safely increase it (In light of my current memory allocations) ? Is it worth it .. ?

    Two things stand out:
    Your sga max size is 17Gb, but you are only using about 4Gb of it - so you seem to have 13Gb that you are not making best use of.
    Your pga aggregate target is 2.4Gb, but you've already hit a peak of 3.4Gb - which means your target may be too small - so it's lucky you had all that spare memory which hadn't gone into the SGA. Despite the availability of memory, some of your queries may have been rationed at run-time to try to minimise the excess demand.
    Is this OLTP or DSS - where do you really need the memory ? (Have a look in v$process to see the pga usage on a process by process level).
    How many processes are allowed to connect to the database ? (You ought to allow about 2Mb - 4Mb per process to the pga_aggregate_target for OLTP) and at least 1Mb per process for the buffer cache.
    Where do you see time lost ? time on disk I/O, or time on CPU ? What type of disk I/O, what's the nature of the CPU usage. These figures alone do not tell us what you should do with the spare memory you seem to have.
    A simple response to your original question would be that you probably need to increase the pga_aggregate_target, and you might as well increase the buffer size since you seem to have the memory for both.
    On the downside, changing the pga_aggregate_target could cause some execution plans to change; and changing the buffer size does change the limit size on a 'short' table, which can cause an increase in I/O as an unlucky side effect if you're a little heavy on "long" tablescans.

    Consensus is usually wrong. As for why Apple did it, here's something from someone who knows the history.

  • Most common Java Runtime used by Windows Users

    I would like to know, what runtime environment is most commonly installed in Windows machines.
    On my website I use applets, however, I do not know which version of Java to use. The latest version has close to zero users who have it installed - and i dont want to anger my visitors with PLEASE DOWNLOAD LATEST JAVA RUNTIME messages. however, what ive been using so far, 1.1.8, is positively ANCIENT!
    i have been using that to be compatible with the MVM, but now i need additional features that come only 1.2 onwards... but do people have the JVMs for those versions?
    which should be my target compilation for optimum results?
    or should i just lump it and stick with 1.1.8?
    bear in mind that my target consumer is the average browser who doesnt have any high tech knowledge/inclination

    There are really too many considerations, but here's my take on it....
    If you can write it to support 1.1.8 (although, technically, the MS JVM was really 1.1.4, but that won't matter much), then you could do that. Most of the people with the latest plugin versions will be using the plugin to run the applet anyway.
    But if you have to do stuff with Swing and some of the newer API stuff for 1.2 or higher, then I personally don't think it's worth the hassle to include the swingall.jar for Swing in 1.1.8, or to try to write/find AWT components that are rich enough to mimic Swing. My feeling is that eventually, you have to move on, cut the cord, whatever.
    IE/Windows isn't supposed to have the MS JVM anymore anyway. I haven't heard anything about MS putting it back in. Older systems (98, ME will, XP won't, especially after SP2) will still have it though. Netscape, Opera and Safari users will have to have the plugin anyway (except Netscape 4.x, which I hope no one's still using).
    One of the bigger considerations tends (or tended) to be that the JRE/Plugin was a fairly large download. So for dial-up users, that's a problem. For broadband users, that's not a problem at all, and I think I recently saw an article claiming broadband has overtaken dial-up in the US. No idea about other countries though. As mentioned, it can be set up to auto-download and install.
    If you are going to go with the plugin, stick with 1.4 for now, as more will have that then have upgraded to 1.5. Those that have, well, it won't matter.
    And finally, a lot of PC manufacturers (Dell, certainly) have been installing the JRE 1.4 for the last 2 couple of years anyway.
    Some people will certainly say that applets suck and aren't worth doing and there's no user support and all this stuff. Or tell you to try to use Flash, as the plugin has a larger install base.
    Flash is certainly something usable, if you want to buy Flash. But there are things that Java can do that Flash can't. There are certainly things Flash is better at then Java applets. So it comes down to what the thing needs to do.
