Increasing adhesion of toner on a glossy gum coated paper

We are using an HP 9040 to print on to a glossy gum coated paper and are having a problem in getting good toner adhesion.  We are printing as slowly as we can (using the Labels setting) with the lowest toner setting (Toner 1) and the highest fuser temperature (High 2).
Does anyone know:
is there a slower setting than Labels?
is there any other way to increase the fuser temperature?

To get your issue more exposure I would suggest posting it in the commercial forums since this is a commercial product. You can do this at Commercial Forums.

  • Raised line (looks like toner is being deposited on the paper) when I print a PDF

    I'm getting a raised line on the right side of every page (it looks like toner is being deposited on the paper) when I print a PDF, but not when I print other kinds of documents. This is with a Laserjet 1300N, using Win7 Pro 64 bit. What can I do about this?

    From Adobe Reader, launch the Print Dialog.
    Click the Advanced button located at the Buttom.
    Make sure to check the Print As Image ceckbox and accept.
    Now try printing and check for any improvement.

  • How to increase the page in PLD if you have more than 1 page for any doc

    Hi Experts,
    I would like to know is there any way out to increase the page layout size of any marketing documents For Eg: i have a purchase order on 1st page i have all the information on next page i have the terms and conditions or you can say annexure so i need atleast 2 or 3 pages for that particular PLD. So please can anyone help me out of ths situation bcoz all marketing documents such as purchase order,sales order have terms and condtions. Waiting for the earliest reply.
    Note: I have tried that by going into Document properties and increasing the size in  number of layout pages in  paper format tab  by giving that it is increasing the size of the PLD but it is not allowing to me to draw any text box or database or any field. Please help me out.

    We also faced similar issues, as PLD has it own limitations, like we can't configure the PLD to print "Terms & Conditions" in the next page.
    I would suggest you to request your client to get the terms & conditions printed on the back of the Purchase Order as it is more flexible. something like a pre printed format.
    or if you want to print everything using SAP itself then better do it using Crystal Reports.

  • Where is the option for Premium Plus Glossy paper?

    I have a new Photosmart B8550 and want to try some prints using glossy Premium Photo Paper. However, in the drop down menu list of the various types of papers to choose from, I don't see any listing for Premium Photo paper!
    The entry for 'Advanced Photo Papers' (with the 's', as if it's plural) is there, and there are a couple of entries that say Premium ..a simple premium paper and a matte presentation type. But I don't see anything to indicate a Premium Photo paper. So...very odd since there's is supposedly an actual HP Premium Photo Paper.
    Any idea what I have to do to actually see the option for glossy Premium Photo paper?

  • Increasing the size of designated text area in a photo book

    I am using IPhoto version 9.5.1 on a MacBook Pro (10.9.2). I am trying to increase the designated text area so that I can increase the font size. This will allow for the final product to be more legible. Currently, I am featuring a student per page. The designated text areas are 4 separate sections on these pages.  I would like to include on each page the following.
    Aviator
    Person's Name
    Algebra I
    Homecoming Dance
    When I increase the font size in those 4 designated areas, the red caution triangle with exclamation point states, 'This text doesn't fit the designated text area!' 
    I have two questions.
    1. How do I increase the text area so the larger text will fit and print properly?
    2. Is there an overall command that I can input these increases to the text area so that the 36 papes have the same changes in the designated text areas? Otherwise, I will have to make those changes for each individual pages that are featuring a student.

    You can "adjust" a photo frame or text box size on a page with the following key combinations:
    Command + Option +⬆arrow:  increase frame height.
    Command + Option +⬇arrow:  decrease frame height.
    Command + Option + ➜ arrow:  increase frame width.
    Command + Option + ⬅ arrow:  decrease frame width.
    To adjust its position on the page use these key combinations:
    Command + Control + ➜ arrow:  move frame to right.
    Command + Control + ⬅  arrow:  move frame to left.
    Command + Control + ⬆ arrow:  rotate frame counter clockwise.
    Command + Control + ⬇ arrow:  rotate frame clockwise.
    You can conver the standard frame (on the left) to this one (on the right)
    Always be sure to create a PDF file of the book for proofing before ordering a book. This Apple document describes how to create the PDF file: iPhoto, Aperture: Previewing an order in iPhoto or Aperture. Keep the PDF file to compare it with the printed copy when it arrives.

  • B9180 glossy paper problem

    hi  i have a hp b9180 printer and im trying to print on fuji inket glossy paper 270 grams......but alas it will not print glossy  it appears to come out rather a mild glossy  not like the real glossy of the actual paper...its fine on my epson printer...there is no drop down menu for fuji or  inkjet glossy paper under paper types....ive tried adding paper under new paper types to no effect...any ideas on how to get a real glossy photo from a glossy piece of paper   ?

    The offshore HP technicians tell me that the Pro B9180 is not capable of printing on HI Gloss paper.  Even HP's own Neil Snape admits that there will be some light absorption differential with different colors.  My advice is save the $800 and have your glossies printed at a professional studio.

  • Photosmart 7515 jams using Kirkland (Costco) glossy photo paper

    I have used other photo papers in the past including HP.  But this time I purchased a package of Kirkland Professional Glossy Inkjet Photo Paper.  After starting a print job, the paper starts to feed and then jams.  Once it actually printed, but the print was about half off the paper.  The other attempts all jammed.  I ruined 5 sheets so far with no success. This Kirkland paper does not seem any different from the others used.  Is there something wrong with the printer?  I don't have a different paper to try at the moment.

I am happy to help!  It is possible, that this type of paper may not be supported with this printer.   • Offset: Match a PMS coated on non-glossy paper?

    Hi, please help/inform
    I am new to offset printing, working for a church that is creating a great new graphic identity. I am working with a local graphic designer to print our newly designed items, and the first item we sent to print was a small envelope for donating money. Our designer showed us a digitally printed proof that looked very close to our colour, PMS 268 C. But, once they were offset printed, they were much lighter, close to PMS 268 UC. I was very disappointed, and realized I should have requesting coated stock, and I feel my designer is to blame for not mentioning this to me/showing me a misleading proof. Now we need to get a letter head printed, and she tells me that to match a Solid coated colour we must use glossy paper (she says glossy=coated). It is mind boggling to me that a digital printer can produce deeper, richer colours on uncoated paper than an offset printer can. I certainly don't want a glossy letterhead, but I cannot settle for such a inaccurate colour match. Is there something I'm missing? Is our designer doing something wrong? Is there anyway to get a match to a coated colour on uncoated or at least non-glossy paper?

    I just wanted to follow up on this post incase there is anyone else experiencing what I experienced last year.
    I've read about coated paper with a dull finish, is that the solution? Is that something that is commonly used?
    The answer is absolutely not. Coated paper with a dull finish is like magazine paper, and many people erroneously refer to any coated paper as "glossy," hence my confusion. Letterhead on any coated paper is unusual.
    It is mind boggling to me that a digital printer can produce deeper, richer colours on uncoated paper than an offset printer can.
    Yet, but this is surprisingly true. Digital printers can achieve this because the ink sits on top of the page instead of soaking in.
    Is there anyway to get a match to a coated colour on uncoated or at least non-glossy paper?
    Other than some colours which turn out well in digital CMYK as I just mentioned, no, at least not to my knowledge.
    The mistake with the envelopes was using the 268 number, because (as John mentioned) 268 UC is not necessarily the best match to 268 C, it's just the same ink recipe.
    So, if you find yourself in my position, print digitally or choose the best match from the uncoated colour swatches.

    General Process of Sugar Manufacturing -
    Raw Materials
    Sugar is a broad term applied to a large number of carbohydrates present in many plants and characterized by a more or less sweet taste. The primary sugar, glucose, is a product of photosynthesis and occurs in all green plants. In most plants, the sugars occur as a mixture that cannot readily be separated into the components. In the sap of some plants, the sugar mixtures are condensed into syrup. Juices of sugarcane (Saccharum officinarum) and sugar beet (Beta vulgaris) are rich in pure sucrose, although beet sugar is generally much less sweet than cane sugar. These two sugar crops are the main sources of commercial sucrose.
    The sugarcane is a thick, tall, perennial grass that flourishes in tropical or subtropical regions. Sugar synthesized in the leaves is used as a source of energy for growth or is sent to the stalks for storage. It is the sweet sap in the stalks that is the source of sugar as we know it. The reed accumulates sugar to about 15 percent of its weight. Sugarcane yields about 2,600,000 tons of sugar per year.
    The sugar beet is a beetroot variety with the highest sugar content, for which it is specifically cultivated. While typically white both inside and out, some beet varieties have black or yellow skins. About 3,700,000 tons of sugar are manufactured from sugar beet.
    Other sugar crops include sweet sorghum, sugar maple, honey, and corn sugar. The types of sugar used today are white sugar (fully refined sugar), composed of clear, colorless or crystal fragments; or brown sugar, which is less fully refined and contains a greater amount of treacle residue, from which it obtains its color.

    •     1 Sugarcane requires an average temperature of 75 degrees Fahrenheit (23.9 degrees

    Preparation and processing
    •     3 After the cane arrives at the mill yards, it is mechanically unloaded, and excessive soil and rocks are removed. The cane is cleaned by flooding the carrier with warm water (in the case of sparse rock and trash clutter) or by spreading the cane on agitating conveyors that pass through strong jets of water and combing drums (to remove larger amounts of rocks, trash, and leaves, etc.). At this point, the cane is clean and ready to be milled.
    When the beets are delivered at the refinery, they are first washed and then cut into strips. Next, they are put into diffusion cells with

In this process, four vacuum-boiling cells are arranged in series so that each succeeding cell has a higher vacuum. Revolving knives cutting the stalks into chips are supplementary to the crushers. (In most countries, the shredder precedes the crusher.) A combination of two, or even all three, methods may be used. The pressing process involves crushing the stalks between the heavy and grooved metal rollers to separate the fiber (bagasse) from the juice that contains the sugar.
    •     5 As the cane is crushed, hot water (or a combination of hot water and recovered impure juice) is sprayed onto the crushed cane countercurrently as it leaves each mill for diluting. The extracted juice, called vesou, contains 95 percent or more of the sucrose present. The mass is then diffused, a process that involves finely cutting or shredding the stalks. Next, the sugar is separated from the cut stalks by dissolving it in hot water or hot juice.
    Purification of juice—clarification
    and evaporation
    •     6 The juice from the mills, a dark green color, is acid and turbid. The clarification (or defecation) process is designed to remove both soluble and insoluble impurities (such as sand, soil, and ground rock) that have not been removed by preliminary screening. The process employs lime and heat as the clarifying agents. Milk of lime (about one pound per ton of cane) neutralizes the natural acidity of the juice, forming insoluble lime salts. Heating the lime juice to boiling coagulates the albumin and some of the fats, waxes, and gums, and the precipitate formed entraps suspended solids as well as the minute particles.
    The sugar beet solution, on the other hand, is purified by precipitating calcium carbonate, calcium sulfite, or both in it repeatedly. Impurities become entangled in the growing crystals of precipitate and are removed by continuous filtration.
    •     7 The muds separate from the clear juice through sedimentation. The non-sugar impurities are removed by continuous filtration. The final clarified juice contains about 85 percent water and has the same composition as the raw extracted juice except for the removed impurities.
    •     8 To concentrate this clarified juice, about two-thirds of the water is removed through vacuum evaporation. Generally, four vacuum-boiling cells or bodies are arranged in series so that each succeeding body has a higher vacuum (and therefore boils at a lower temperature). The vapors from one body can thus boil the juice in the next one—the steam introduced into the first cell does what is called multiple-effect evaporation. The vapor from the last cell goes to a condenser. The syrup leaves the last body continuously with about 65 percent solids and 35 percent water.
    The sugar beet sucrose solution, at this point, is also nearly colorless, and it likewise undergoes multiple-effect vacuum evaporation. The syrup is seeded, cooled, and put in a centrifuge machine. The finished beet crystals are washed with water and dried.
    Crystallization
    •     9 Crystallization is the next step in the manufacture of sugar. Crystallization takes place in a single-stage vacuum pan. The syrup is evaporated until saturated with sugar. As soon as the saturation point has been exceeded, small grains of sugar are added to the pan, or "strike." These small grains, called seed, serve as nuclei for the formation of sugar crystals. (Seed grain is formed by adding 56 ounces [1,600 grams] of white sugar into the bowl of a slurry machine and mixing with 3.3 parts of a liquid mixture: 70 percent methylated spirit and 30 percent glycerine. The machine runs at 200 RPM for 15 hours.) Additional syrup is added to the strike and evaporated so that the original crystals that were formed are allowed to grow in size.
    The growth of the crystals continues until the pan is full. When sucrose concentration reaches the desired level, the dense mixture of syrup and sugar crystals, called massecuite, is discharged into large containers known as crystallizers. Crystallization continues in the crystallizers as the massecuite is slowly stirred and cooled.
    •     10 Massecuite from the mixers is allowed to flow into centrifugals, where the thick syrup, or molasses, is separated from the raw sugar by centrifugal force.
    Centrifugaling
    •     11 The high-speed centrifugal action used to separate the massecuite into raw sugar crystals and molasses is done in revolving machines called centrifugals. A centrifugal machine has a cylindrical basket suspended on a spindle, with perforated sides lined with wire cloth, inside which are metal sheets containing 400 to 600 perforations per square inch. The basket revolves at speeds from 1,000 to 1,800 RPM. The raw sugar is retained in the centrifuge basket because the perforated lining retains the sugar crystals. The mother liquor, or molasses, passes through the lining (due to the centrifugal force exerted). The final molasses (blackstrap molasses) containing sucrose, reducing sugars, organic nonsugars, ash, and water, is sent to large storage tanks.
    Once the sugar is centrifuged, it is "cut down" and sent to a granulator for drying. In some countries, sugarcane is processed in small factories without the use of centrifuges, and a dark-brown product (noncentrifugal sugar) is produced. Centrifugal sugar is produced in more than 60 countries while noncentrifugal sugar in about twenty countries.
    Drying and packaging
    •     12 Damp sugar crystals are dried by being tumbled through heated air in a granulator. The dry sugar crystals are then sorted by size through vibrating screens and placed into storage bins. Sugar is then sent to be packed in the familiar packaging we see in grocery stores, in bulk packaging, or in liquid form for industrial use.
    Byproducts
    The bagasse produced after extracting the juice from sugar cane is used as fuel to generate steam in factories. Increasingly large amounts of bagasse are being made into paper, insulating board, and hardboard, as well as furfural, a chemical intermediate for the synthesis of furan and tetrahydrofuran.
    The beet tops and extracted slices as well the molasses are used as feed for cattle. It has been shown that more feed for cattle and other such animals can be produced per acre-year from beets than from any other crop widely grown in the United States. The beet strips are also treated chemically to facilitate the extraction of commercial pectin.
    The end product derived from sugar refining is blackstrap molasses. It is used in cattle feed as well as in the production of industrial alcohol, yeast, organic chemicals, and rum.
    Quality Control
    Mill sanitation is an important factor in quality control measures. Bacteriologists have shown that a small amount of sour bagasse can infect the whole stream of warm juice flowing over it. Modern mills have self-cleaning troughs with a slope designed in such a way that bagasse does not hold up but flows out with the juice stream. Strict measures are taken for insect and pest controls.
    Because cane spoils relatively quickly, great steps have been taken to automate the methods of transportation and get the cane to the mills as quickly as possible. Maintaining the high quality of the end-product means storing brown and yellow refined sugars (which contain two percent to five percent moisture) in a cool and relatively moist atmosphere, so that they continue to retain their moisture and do not become hard.

  • Chroma Key Question

    Does it matter what shade of green is used for the Chroma Key function in FCE?
    I noticed that B&H, for example, sells a very expensive gallon of Chroma Key green paint. But wouldn't a much cheaper gallon of a similar shade of green from a place like Home Depot have the same effect?
    While we're on the topic, does it really matter what color is chosen?

    The obstacle you'll face in buying such a color from Lowes or Home Depot will be the base used to create such a color. these stores use deep tone or accent bases.
    Chroma Key paint itself is made by grinding the pigments into the paint.
    The problem with using paints created with deep or accent bases are :
    1st) very poor coverage ,
    since the pigment is added rather than ground into the coating the spread rate drops drastically, in short depending on the number of square feet your wanting to paint, you very well could end up spending more simply cause you'll need more paint.
    2nd) Point sheen level.
    Chroma key paint is a matt finish, these stores do offer matt paint but, due to the amount of added pigment it will cause the sheen level to increase. in some cases such as Lowe's Olympic paint, the manufacture has increased the point sheen to help protect the coating. one has to remember these paints are typically used for homes. in short the flat or matt paint will have a slight reflection.

  • Dust *inside* the LCD screen?

    Hi folks, when I shut down my Late 2008 15.4" MBP, I notice there is an increasing amount of dust under the glossy plastic surface, but on top of the actual LCD screen - between the two layers.
    When I turn the machine on, I don't see it, but I'm afraid over time its going to get worse and eventually be visible when the machine is turned on.
    Has anyone else had this problem?

    I have exactly the same problem and mine is a early 2008 model. Two months ago, there were only 2 dots and now I can see almost a dozen. Some look like dust, some look like fungus.
    Did you have the problem solve? and how?

  • Why Photoshop PDF adverts look faded when get printed on newspaper?

    I've to export artwork into PDF, which is the only acceptable format  by newspaper publisher.
    What steps should be take to make sure that actual colors printed  in newspaper are close to colors in Photoshop?
    One of the newspaper publisher told me something about half-tone?  How do they affect printed colors? Which related settings should I  choose in Photoshop?
    Are ICC profiles really useful? Should I avoid them for  newspaper advert? Photoshop on Mac automatically puts some ICC profile  in PDF.
    Does it matter whether I'm working on MAC or Windows as far as  colors are concerned?
    If there are some specific guidelines, is it possible to do all  these automatically via Action Scripts for all existing artworks?
    Which colors I should't use for newspaper ads?

    I assume You are working in RGB?
    1) Convert the image to the proper profile (but keep the RGB-file) – in much of Europe that would be ISOnewspaper26v4, available here: http://www.eci.org/doku.php?id=en:downloads, for the rest of the world You better check with the newspapers.
    But do at least test if the Render Intent »Perceptual« or »Relative Colorimetric« provides better results, »Black Point Compensation« can also make some difference.
    When working on RGB-files View – Proof Colors can be used to preview separation results (the conditions can be edited in View – Proof Setup).
    One could of course also convert at PDF-export, but for example black text would then result in a 4C-Black which would be inadvisable out of print-considerations.
    2) Halftone is anything that’s not 1bit, images that contain shades of colors – so basically all photographs and areas of color that are neither 0% or 100% in any of the process colors.
    This will affect the resulting appearance in that the paper used for newspapers soaks up the ink more than coated paper, thereby increasing the dot gain, making an area of a certain percentage in a color appear darker than it would if printed on less absorbent paper.
    At the same time the paper and its surface make it impossible to achieve as deep a black as on higher quality paper and requires a smaller amount of total ink (usually 240% maximum).
    3) Please read the pertinent sections in the Help (»Chapter 6: Color management«).
    Are ICC profiles really useful?
    Profiles are Your best way to attain any predictability as to the resulting appearance – so long as the printers take their Color Management seriously.
    4) No.
    But You should always embed the profiles in Your working files and save the pdfs according to one of the PDF-X-standards and make sure the correct Output Intent is selected under Output – PDF/X.
    5) Are You to provide the finished layouts with text, logos, etc. or are You only working on images to be combined later on by someone else?
    Anyway the separation (Edit – Convert to Profile) could certainly be applied as an Action.
    6) View – Color Warning (command-shift-Y) can be used to assess which colors are out of gamut for the selected Proof Setup (just make sure to select the correct Proof Conditions) and therefore change the most significantly.
    Be advised that to maintain sharpness of fonts or graphic elements You must not rasterize the font Layers or the Vector Masks of Layers.

  • Photo too bright...

    Just had another problem photo. Not only was this photo impossible to get right with the basics (yes, by my definition), even the tone curve couldn't rescue it, nor could clarity. Never got to locals yet...

    Note: having shadows & highlights at -100 in order to knock back the brightness *almost* enough is just one symptom of the problem(s).

    Note: the goal was not to match PV2010 just for kicks - the goal was to come up with a pleasing photo, which I was not able to do (to my satisfaction) with PV2012, but I was able to do with PV2010.
    In anticipation of the strategy of riddling the histogram comparison with machine-gun fire, since the image target has been hidden - no matter what you say - I didn't like the results of PV2012 processing quite as well as PV2010, no matter what I did.
    Note: this was a low contrast shot, with a significant contrast boost which seemed essential for any of the results to be pleasing.
    PS - This is a photo where I would like to have had the default shadow recovery *on*, but the default highlight recovery *off* - neither increasing whites nor tone curve could restore the tonality of the top-most highlights.
    Also - there were no red highilghts in this photo at all (only yellow) - the PV2012 process version did not preserve color integrity in the highlights - luckily this was fixable using the new channel curves. - actually a simple white-balance adjustment does it ok-ish too, but still begs the question of why such a color shift with the different process versions (even after achieving similar tonality) - doncha think?

    You have probably found the answer to your question by now, but just in case, the brightness controls (found on the right side of the screen, on the keyboard and in system preferences) allow you to lower the brightness to about 100 (which is lower than most recommendations for a LCD screen), at least on a 30" display. Make sure that the brightness controls are not locked (see system preferences - display).
    I find the cinema display nothing short of amazing for photo editing purposes.

    The field width in the layout depends on its Horizontal elasticity and its content :

    If the Horizontal elasticity is set to "Variable", the field width will be automatically adjusted to its content length.
