Indent and spacing in the paragraph format in Smartstyle .

Dear all
I have created the smartstyle , and defined the TAB formatting.
The window defined is having following details. The first tab is at 3.5cm and second tab is at 4.5 cm (the exact placment on the pre-printed invoice)
Total Value,,,,,,&totval(10)&
Cash Discount ,,&zper&,,,,&zcdamt(10)&
Taxabke Amt,,,,,,&taxamt(10)&
CST,,&zper&,,,,&zcstamt(10)&
Adj,,,,,,&adjamt(10)&
My problem is always cash discount is shifted based on the value of the Total Value , for example if  the total value is
Total value----
934.50
Cash.Disc @ 3% -  102.00
but if total Value is as follows
Total value----
1934.50
Cash Disc @ 3% -  102.00
Same observation is to the last field of Adj, it  varies based on CST figure, for example if CSTamt is not zero then it will print properly , if CST is zero , the CST line is not printed ( as condition is defined)  but then the Adj amount shifts  towards right by two digit.
Can anyone share , if the similar problems were faced.
AVS

Hi AVS,
The solution to use a template works fine only if the textx are static and will be displayed always. If you have made a text display dynamic based on a condition,Use a table and add a condition for the row. In this case, If the condition is false it'll not be printed as a blank space. It'll be skipped and next row will be printed.

    Hi Michele,
    Select the paragraphs where you want to change the spacing.
    Format Panel > Text > Spacing
    You can change 1.0 - Single to something else, or type a number in Before or After.

    I don't use OpenOffice (I have it on my internal just to play around with, but seldom even open it). I do use MS Word and have few problems sharing files - it's usually a font issue so I tend to use MS fonts for documents that I know will need to be shared.
    Unless you need to make collaborative changed to the document, you could always save it as a pdf file. With Acrobat Pro you can even save a pdf file to a Word document with very little change in formatting.
    If I were you - and you have a need for .doc or .docx files to travel and play nicely - I'd just invest in MS Office. If you don't have to send a Word file, try pdf.

  • Why won't my hyperlink keep the paragraph format?

    I am working in FM11. I have a bulleted list of my heading 2 name and numbers. When I add a cross-reference for source type Paragraphs and insert my heading 2, select my reference format for HeadingName_and_Number, it changes to a cross reference marker. I am trying to copy and paste one heading (with name and number) and select that one to quickly increment the heading until I go through the list. This works in some of my other chapters, but keeps changing from paragraphs to cross reference marker. How can I make it stay a paragraph cross reference? Thanks again for your help.

    At the start of a section I have a hyperlinked list to the major sections as shown in the first image:
    If my sections have changed slightly due to software upgrades and enhancements, the names have changed. In other sections in the same chapter I am able to copy and paste the first hyperlink (in this case it would be the Time Controls line). Then I paste it 4 times and double click to select the next new upgraded paragraph name. I set these with the cross-reference tool and select Source Type: Paragraphs. I choose Marker Types Heading2 and click Insert. Then immediately it goes back to marker types Cross-Ref instead of Paragraphs as shown in the second image:
    Other similar groups keep the Paragraph marker type so it is fast and simple to copy + paste and select the updated heading to link. I don't understand why this set won't keep the paragraph marker type.

  • How do I change the paragraph format of paragraphs that comes before a list of bullets in one shot

    I receive word documents to convert to indesign files based on a template. I have a set of find and replace queries that do most of the work.
    The manual work I am doing is as follows:
    Changing the paragraph style of all body copy that comes before before bullets
    Changing the paragraph style of last bullets and last subbullets
    What is the simplest way of changing the paragraph styles of every body copy before a list of bullets.
    I am doing more and more of these on a daily basis and would REALLY appreciate some insight.
    Not sure if this can only be done in a script.
    Hope that made sense.
    Thanks.

    spktrm11 wrote: Thanks for the response. I already have established styles. I have a style for "last bullet" and one for "bullets before last". I am trying to do a find and replace so I don't have to individually change the paragraph style of every last bullet.  Document: Paragraph Text. (I want to be able to find this specific paragraph, which would be any paragraph before a bullet and change its style.)
    bullet text
    bullet text
    bullet text
    bullet text (I want to be able to find this specific bullet (bullet text) and replace it with (last bullet))
    Paragraph Text
    I want to avoid having to go through the document to change the style of every last bullet that i find manually. I would like to find (based on it's position - any bullet that is followed by a paragraph)
    Hope this makes more sense
    Have you considered following lists with a "paragraph after list" style, like your paragraph before list style? This might be more appropriate for authors to apply while they create content. The idea is that all list items use a single style, so that rearranging items within the list doesn't require retagging the first or last list paragraph to adjust space or numbering when the first or last item is moved into the list.
    If this is a common problem in your work, you might want to post a feature request for smarter paragraph styles that can detect whether they're first, last, or interior list items, and adjust their properties as appropriate to their position. You can post your request here: wish

  • Archive files are in XML format and not in the original format

    Hi all,
    I am using a receiver file adapter with archiving option. When I look at the archive files they are in the XML converted format and not in the original flat file format received. We would like to store these files for audit purpose and it doesnt make sense to store XML files. We are in SP04. Does a note need to be applied or any other extra configurations need to be done which I might have missed? Please advise.
    -Teresa

    Hi,
    >>>Wow, the note says its fixed in SP10
    but only the split is fixed not the XML messages in the archive I think (from the note)
    >>>Is there any alternative quick fix and I hate manual work
    create 2 new folders - connect one of them with the file adapter and the second one remains for archives
    in you normal destination folder for your files add a simple program that will check if there are any files and copy them to those two folders - this could be the fastes but obviously not the best solution I guess

  • Why no spacing before the paragraph

    I'm guessing there's some kind of exception for this but I can't find anything in 17.3.1.33.
    In the attached document, when it's the first paragraph in the document, the spacing before is applied. But after a hard page break, it isn't.
    Why?

    Made the world's coolest reporting & docgen system even more amazing

    As for #1, I found that the compatibility settings do indeed work, but to get them to work, you have to save the file as a .doc then resave it as a .docx with compatibility settings:
    This blog by Cindy Meister talks about how to get the compatibility settings to show up again:
    http://blogs.msmvps.com/wordmeister/2013/02/04/word-2013-the-layout-options/
    I tested this and it works:
    1. save the .docx as a .doc
    2. set the compatibility setting you want; i.e. suppress before spacing after a hard page break
    3. save the file as a .docx again, selecting the "Maintain compatibility with previous versions of Word" check box.
    If you do this, you'll see a settings section like this one:
        <w:compat>
            <w:suppressTopSpacing/>
            <w:suppressSpBfAfterPgBrk/>
            <w:useFELayout/>
            <w:useNormalStyleForList/>
            <w:doNotUseIndentAsNumberingTabStop/>
            <w:useAltKinsokuLineBreakRules/>
            <w:allowSpaceOfSameStyleInTable/>
            <w:doNotSuppressIndentation/>
            <w:doNotAutofitConstrainedTables/>
            <w:autofitToFirstFixedWidthCell/>
            <w:displayHangulFixedWidth/>
            <w:splitPgBreakAndParaMark/>
            <w:doNotVertAlignCellWithSp/>
            <w:doNotBreakConstrainedForcedTable/>
            <w:doNotVertAlignInTxbx/>
            <w:useAnsiKerningPairs/>
            <w:cachedColBalance/>
            <w:compatSetting w:name="compatibilityMode" w:uri="http://schemas.microsoft.com/office/word" w:val="11"/>
        </w:compat>
    And the settings appear to work.
    Without compatibility mode, the behaviour is locked in to suppressing the "before" spacing after a hard page break.
    On to #2...

  • Using baseline grid and "space after" for paragraph formatting

    I'm using InDesign CC on a MacBook Pro Retina. I'm designing a document and want to use a baseline grid to align text. I also want to use the "space after" option in defining a paragraph style. I'm using 10 point type on 15 point leading. The "space after" is defined as 7.5 points.
    If I try apply both the baseline grid alignment and the "space after" specification, I essentially lose my defined 7.5 pt "space after" to a much larger space because the first line of the next paragraph sinks to the baseline grid line below it. I end up essentially with 22.5 pt instead of 7.5 pt.
    Are these two functions incompatible or is there a way around this that I don't know about?
    Thanks for any advice.

    There's no way around it. Best is to calculate your various leading,
    space before, and space after values to make sure everything falls on a
    baseline. That way you avoid having to rely on "Align to baseline." You
    may also want to turn on "skip by leading" in Preferences>Composition if
    you've got graphics with text wrap in them.

  • How can a variable in a header be set to display the first header on a page, even if the paragraph format is different, such as a Header 1, Header 2, etc.?

    The type of first header on the page varies depending on the content, such as a Header 1, Header 1 Top, Header 2, Header 2 Top, etc.
    What syntax could be used to define the <$paratext[paratag]> in a Running H/F to pick up the header first header on the page?  Simply using a Running H/F1 with <$paratext[Header 1]> would miss Header 1 Top.
    Thank you.

    You can include more than one paragraph tag in the [paratag] part of a building block. When you include multiple paragraph tags, FrameMaker uses the first paragraph it finds with one of the tags. Separate the tags with commas, as in the following example: <$paratext[Head1,Head2]>
    … says my old 7.0 User Guide. As far as I remember, there have been other threads about how to interpret first paragraph it finds :-}

  • Paragraph Format being lost

    Hi there
    I'm working on an FAPI client to translate text in Frame Documents. One of the first things we do is store the formatting for each paragraph,
    and then write it back out to the translated document.
    However, in one document I'm working on, when my client attempts to get a handle
    for one particular paragraph format, it gets a null a handle instead and that formatting is not applied. Instead, formatting from the previous paragraph (namely an obnoxious green font colour!) is being applied.
    In order to set the translated text into the document, we delete the content that was originally there. Could that have a role to play?
    I notice that before and after translation, the paragraph format in question is not contained in the paragraph format catalogue.
    When I click on the paragraph which has this formatting applied to it, it has an asterisk before the name. Is this significant?
    Any answers would be appreciated
    Thanks
    Eric

    Eric,
    I think the answer you are looking for is yes, there can be "formats" in the document that are not in the catalog. However, they aren't really formats at all, because if they were, they would be in the catalog. From an API perspective, all they are is a string property assigned to a paragraph.
    With the FDK, format usage can be confusing. You might think that you can just set the FP_Name property for an FO_Pgf object to apply a format, but that is really nothing more than a string that is used for reference later, either by you (the programmer) or the interface (the GUI). To apply a format, you have to find the format object (FO_PgfFmt) itself, capture its settings, then apply them to the FO_Pgf (I gather you know this already). It's important to remember, though, that you aren't really creating any kind of link between the format object and the paragraph; rather, you are just transfering the settings from one to another. Incidentally, both types of objects have an FP_Name property, so when you transfer the properties from the format to the pgf, that name gets transferred as well. This presents the illusion that there is some intrinsic link between the two afterwards, but it really was nothing but a string property transfer.
    The problem you are having is that this FP_Name property was somehow set with a value that doesn't reflect an actual format in the catalog. This could have been done with the FDK, of course, but there are a number of ways to do it in the interface as well. One of the simplest ways is to open the paragraph designer, "create" a new format, but deselect the option to add it to the catalog. The paragraph will then maintain the assignment of this "format," but it doesn't really exist. It's just the FP_Name property amidst the zillions of other paragraph-related properties.
    Others have suggested that format overrides might be the cause, but I don't think that is quite applicable in your case. You should still be able to retrieve an FO_PgfFmt object by name, if it existed. Your problem is that the format doesn't exist. Note that in the interface, both a non-existent format and an paragraph with format overrides will show with an asterisk in the toolbar, adding to the possible confusion here.
    Solution?  I think you'll need to clean up your docs   You can do this with the FDK by seeking out any paragraph with an imaginary formats, then creating a new FO_PgfFmt object with the respective properties. Or, better yet, do it once manually and be done with it.
