InDesign 6 won't save or save as my files

I don't know when it happened, but I can't get InDesign 6 to save my files after I've made changes. I'm currently running Lion 10.7.4. Any one having this issue?

Is this an inabilty to save in a particualr location, or everywhere? Have you tried trashing the prefs? See Replace Your Preferences
Is it all files or just one or two?
Have you tried a differnt user account?
Do you get any error message?

  • InDesign 10 Won't Save

    Has anyone else experienced this serious bug, where InDesign 2014 won't save, save-as or otherwise? I just lost 2 hours of work because of this.
    Right before this begins, I notice that the cursor will not honor the selected tool, showing only the black arrow.

    Can't save — AGAIN! This is a pretty serious bug. Is nobody else out there experiencing this? Notice there is no option to Save, Save as, Save a Copy, or otherwise.
    I only have these types of problems with Adobe software — nothing else.

  • PSE 12 won't save the tiff file over the original, but brings up save as window

    I've solved (or had help) solving this problem before:
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/5893872#5893872
    I am using PSE 12 as a photo editor for Aperture 3.5.1 and the photo is duplicated (as a tiff) in Aperture and PSE editor opens with the image.  When I close the file and say to save the file it brings up the save as window.
    The fix from the earlier discussion worked fine at first, but now, even though I tell PSE 12 to "on first save -- save over current file" it now brings up the "save as" window and won't save over the file (changes the file type from .tiff to .tif)
    Has something changed?
    Dave

    Go to the editore preferences>general, click this button and restart the editor, then try again (You will need to reset the saving files pref first):

  • InDesign CC Won't Save File

    Running InDesign 9.1
    Mac 10.8.5
    I have been using InDesign CC just fine with no issues. I have one file that I have edited for at least a couple of months and have had no issues. All of a suddent today, it won't save. It has all the options to save, but never will actually save. A co-worker can open and save it with no issue, but now I can't. Any thoughts?

    It's a known issue that you can have problems saving an InDesign file if you've dragged and dropped from the Finder or from Adobe Bridge.  It's expected that there will be an update to fix this and other performance issues before too long.
    In the meantime, using File > Place instead of drag-and-drop.

  • Indesign CS5 won't Save or Save as..

    I have recently installed Mac OSX 10.6.3  (snow_leopard) onto my iMac and now for some reason Indesign CS5 will not save or save as.
    It allows me to selecteither of them in the menu but nothing happens at all. If i try to close the document after making changes it just closes without asking if i want to save and i lose all the changes.
    I have also gone to the extent of doing a clean installation  of the OS & CS5 with no difference whatsoever.
    Any ideas would be extremely helpful..
    Thanks

    go back to Replace Your Preferences to get the paths to the folders in your user library, then try moving the entire folders to the desktop and restart ID.
    If it's still not working, John Hawkinson has mentioned some other files that seem to be involved when it works in one user and not another, but you'd have to do a search here as I don't know the names and locations for all of them (I'm on Windows). I think he's suggested these at least twice in the last month or so, so they should come up.

  • InDesign Cc won't save files

    InDesign CC will not save at all. Save and Save As are enabled, but I cannot save due to an error "The file DBTmp (followed by a long number) is damaged. I cannot export to IDML due to a background error. Please help.

    Ted Dysart wrote:I did the migration, so all my InDesign documents are from CS 5.5 produced on my old Mac Pro.
    This is probably the root of the problem. Adobe apps don't migrate.
    You can uninstall CC and try reinstalling that, and you can get the installer for CS5 from https://helpx.adobe.com/download-install.html

  • InDesign CS5 won't save rotated views as PDF

    I'm using InDesign CS5 to create a calendar. I am using rotated view for the spreads. I have page 4-27 I want to send to my client for proofing. I only want the "smallest File" for screen viewing ioption. I've never had a problem creating PDFs. This is the first time using viewer spreads rotated. Wondering if this is creating the problem.
    The background task panel has been stuck at 42% for over an hour. InD won't let me quit the save. It won't allow me to close the project window, or Force quit the program.
    Assistance needed!!!

    Thank you for your reply. I did know about the rotated view not transating in the PDF. I was wondering though if it affected the speed of the PDF creating...undoing the rotation.
    I was under a time crunch to send off a proof, so after finally force quitting ID, I saved each spread as a separate PDF and then compiled them into a multi-page PDF. It all went without a hiccup. Possibly if I had restarted my computer, opened ID and prepared the multi-pg PDF at that point, as suggested below, then it may have worked. I will be trying that at some point as I will have more comps to prepare as the project proceeds.
    Thank you.

  • InDesign CC won't save my files

    Hi
    I've been working in InDesign for a week now and since yesterday I started noticing that at times InDesign won't undo and I am not able to save my file. I keep hitting command + s while working but it just doesn't save or give an error message. If I go on the File menu all the save and save as commands are grayed out. If you close the file and click on the save button InDesign just gives a message that the file cannot be saved. I have to close the file without saving and redo all the work. Because InDesign doesn't give an error when pressing command + s I would do a lot of work under the impression everything gets saved but it doesn't and I keep losing a lot of work.
    Also CC runs very slow. There are times when the program just "freezes" for awhile while InDesign does somethings in the background and only after it is done you can start working again. The pages panel takes ages to load the previews onto the pages and while it is doing so I cannot do anything at all.
    Starting to think I should have stayed with CS6.

    @all – the above JavaScript (ExtendScript) in post #34 cannot work as expected on Mac OSX.
    At best you will save a file named "Test\test.indd" on the desktop…
    Instead I would recommend a slightly altered version:
    var myFolder = new Folder("~/Desktop/Test");
    if (!myFolder.exist) myFolder.create();
    app.activeDocument.save(myFolder.fsName + "/" +Date.now()+"_test.indd");
    See the "/" instead of "\\".
    I changed it, so every time you execute it (and if it will not throw an error!), you'll get a new file with an unique file name.
    ("Date.now()" should be sufficient enough to generate a new sequence of a 13 digit number every time you try).
    Or maybe even better: save a copy of your file:
    var myFolder = new Folder("~/Desktop/Test");
    if (!myFolder.exist) myFolder.create();
    app.activeDocument.saveACopy(myFolder.fsName + "/" +Date.now()+"_test.indd");
    All testing on Mac OS X 10.6.8.
    @BienzBliemer – I think, the above script(s) will not work in your scenario, because InDesign has not finished something that goes on in the background. A hidden modal dialog that is not answered should not be the problem, because you can start up a script …

  • InDesign CC won't save after working on file and saving.

    I am really getting tired of resetting the preferences in InDesign CC when it stops SAVING or SAVING AS. This occurs after working and saving on an InDesign file - then all of a sudden it will not save or save as. There is no pattern so I never know when this will happen. I called support and they suggested restarting and resetting the preferences. I have done this multiple times.
    This is frustrating. I have to open my file and determine the work that I did but did not save, and do it again. What a waste of time.
    I have read several forums with no other suggestions other than trashing the preferences and disabling Sync settings. I have done both of these multiple times.
    Help!

  • InDesign 6 won't save or print pdf

    I just bought a new MacBook Pro with 10.9.5 and reinstalled CS 6 on it and updated to version 8.0.2.  I made changes to an InDesign document, but now I cannot save the changes either overwriting the file or doing a Save As and I cannot create a pdf.  The Background Tasks just says "Failed to export the pdf."  I am able to print to my HP 8600 though. I deleted the preferences and that didn't work.

    Can you save to a different location, or export to .idml?

  • Pictures won't save as valid files

    Whenever I take a picture on my Pearl 8220, it displays the image, and then saves it to my media card. however, when i attempt to view any pictures using my blackberry, the images can't be opened, and display as a black screen with a red x in the top left corner. reading the images off of the sd card with a PC doesn't work either, the images don't open as valid files, even though they look like non-empty jpeg files.
     Thanks for any help,
    Slothsberry

    Hi, Slothsberry.
    Have you finally fixed this? Looks like I have the similar issue. I'm on bold and using the app that creates Excel file in Device Memory. The file looks like it's OK (size is not zero, it has proper name), but it can not be opened. When I studied its connent I saw every its byte is just zero. Other users of the app do not get in this problem. I can't figure out what could be wrong with my device...
    Thanks in advance,

  • IPhoto 9 won't save changes to file

    After i'm done editing a photo and click the done button, everything is fine if I view the photos inside iPhoto, BUT if I got to the actual location on my HDD where the file is being held, none of the changes have been applied. How can I force iPhoto to save the changes without using the export option, because it would be too slow to export all the images one by one.
    This problem came up after I was trying to upload the images to my server and discovered that none of the changes had been saved.

    Another problem I am having with iPhoto... when i delete a photo, the original still remains on the HDD, so theoretically it's impossible to delete photos via iPhoto.
    That is incorrect - when you delete photos in iPhoto (move to the iPhoto trash and empty the iPhoto trash) the photos are totally deleted - nothing outside of the iPhoto library is affected - iPhoto manages the photos you import and nothing else including the source of the photo
    And another issue, when i want to view images in full screen, i go to the location where they are, and double click the image, it opens up in preview, however, i can't just hop on to the next one, i have to close the preview first and then open up the next images. It's quite frustration, on windows you just use the right/left arrow keys to switch back and fourth in full screen.
    It is strongly recommended that you do NOT "go to the location" where the photo is
    iPhoto is a relational database and it is strongly recommended that you use the proper tools for accessing it - go into it and using preview is not a good idea - nor is is needed
    In iPhoto you can select the photo you want and hit the space bar to enlarge it to full screen - and use the arrow keys to scroll through photos
    It just seems that windows is much more user friendly when it comes to manipulating images. Or am I wrong ?
    You are very wrong - with windows you are not manipulating images - you are playing with files - with iPhoto you are managing photos - totally different concept - and there is a learning curve -- the first thing to learn is to forget about managing files and start thinking about managing photos -- taking the iPhoto tutorials is a great way to start this process -- http://www.apple.com/findouthow/photos/ -- I recommend that you go through all 22 of them

  • Pages won't save changes to files

    This has happened twice already in a row: I perform changes to a file, and Pages will later on display a previous version of that same file. As a consequence, I lose ALL of the changes I have done.
    This had not happened before, and I'm running an updated version of the app.
    Did anyone have the same problem and was able to solve it?
    Thank you.

    I am trying to do a resume (used one of the templetes on Pages).  When I change the font and the color of the font and try to save it as a .doc, then I get out of it and get back into the document, it doesn't save it.  In fact it, when I save it and then go back in one time the color has changed back to the original, then the next time I save what I want and go back in, the text in one line has changed back to a different font.  It just goes back and forth like this when I save the document.  This is only happening in the header.  Please help.  I have tried to change and save what I want for hours now but what I want the font and color to look like is not "sticking".
    If you save the document as a .doc do you get the changes in that document?
    Do you mean by " get back into the document, it doesn't save it" that it isn't saved in Pages? If you haven't saved the Pages document it will not remember your changes. If you mean that the template you have used doesn't remember your changes it doesn't, never, because the template is just that. You have to save the changed document as a template and it will be saved in "My Templates" and found in the template chooser.

  • Compressor won't save a whole file.

    I'm editing a small music video for a friend, and he sent me an mp3 to edit to until he can get me a higher-quality track for the audio. The problem I'm having is that I've attempted to up-convert the mp3 to a 48kHz AIFF file, and it completely lopped off the last 18 seconds or so of the track. First I thought he just sent me an mp3 that was already truncated, but it's not. I checked my copy of the mp3 and it has the whole song. The problem is that Compressor exported 3:25 of the 3:43 track length.
    I deleted it and tried again, twice, and it did the exact same thing, twice. This just doesn't make any sense to me, and maybe someone here knows what I can do. I know I can probably make the sequence's audio settings to 44.1kHz and it'll probably work, but I'm more interested in why this program would truncate a file like this.
    P.S. Does anyone else not really like the interface in the new version of Compressor?

    Thanks for the reply. I tried QT and strangely, the first time I did it it failed, but then I exported it (without changing the name this time), and it seems to have worked. The only thing I did differently than all the other times (other than use Quicktime) was that I didn't change the name of the file. Maybe Compressor gets picky if you use a slash in a file name? Only thing I can think of.
    Also, I had already checked to see if an out-point had been set, and there wasn't one. It would play the whole file in Compressor, so I have no idea what it was doing.

  • Music won't save to file gallery with 5800 express...

    I downloaded songs from the web before, but recently, they won't save to the file gallery. It just says music downloaded, but doesn't save. I can add music via ovi or dragging and dropping on my laptop, but not by downloading from sites on the web. I show 5.7GB free space, so memory card isn't full either.

    Did you refresh the Library to confirm this ?
