Index on Key
Hi There,
I'm trying to add an index using a KeyExtractor which is use in a filter. It appears to be complaining that there is no method on the entry. A filter using the and EqualsFilter(KeyExtractor()) works fine. I'm guessing it's complaining because it's not going to the key but the entry. I can get over this by duplicating the object from the key into the object but it just seems a shame.
2008-04-17 11:53:34.137 Oracle Coherence GE 3.3/387p6 <Error> (thread=DistributedCache, member=1): Exception occured during index rebuild: java.lang.RuntimeException: Missing or inaccessible method: com.rbos.risk.domain.portfoliomanager.PortfolioKey#getPortfolioKey[]
I do, although I've just rationalised that into a static final and use both for the filter and the index, and it now seems to work.
It must've been some mismatch in what I thought was going on, sorry to have troubled you :)

AnandaHi Anand-
This is completely data issue, when executing the unique index step it will create unique index with the column name you mentioned.
When you ran the first two loads there was no duplicate keys found in the data that's why you didn't get the error but the third run you got the problem.
Check your data records and made changes in the KM as Bouch told if you don't want to create unique index.
Thanks & Regards,

Hi,
I am trying toceate an interface which collects data from database make some transformation and populated seeded tables in the same database.
My Approach is :
a) Create a record type variable ( concists of multiple segments)
b) Create a pl/sql table type of the records type in a)
c) Created a cursor of same structure as pl/sql table type ( collects data)
d) BULK CoLLECT data from cursor into pl/sql table
e) Print the data
But during Bulk Collect i get the below error :

ORA-06502: PL/SQL: numeric or value error: NULL index table key value Repor
W've been experiencing the Oracle Error: ORA-06502: PL/SQL: numeric or value error: NULL index table key value Report’ [we are currently on apex v3.0.1]. From the forum there was a reference to a bug fix: apex bug (6416829) fixed in 3.1. When we view '6416829' in Metalink we can see the bug title but cannot see any details as it's protected. Can anyone shed some light on why it's protected or provide further details.
We have many LIVE customers reporting this error and we want to be certain it's fixed in v3.1.
(currently we are working around this by flushing the shared pool but this is not ideal).
Any help would be appreciated.Scott,
This error has been thrown several times in the past 24 hours. Yesterday several of my reports threw the error, these reports have done so in the past. This morning APEX has begun throwing the error of which I have seen only once before. This is occuring at Home>Application>My Application. The error appears when I attempt to View the report in Details mode, is OK when I view the report in Icons mode. The error is occuring in my Prodution environment which has not been updated since 2/25/2009.
As before, I edited the SQL on my application's reports and the error then disappeared.
We are running Application Express 3.2.0.00.27 and Oracle Release 10.2.0.1.0. My browser is IE 7.0.
Plan to test later with FireFox provided I can download it to see if this might browser related.
Any inforamtion or guidance is appreciated.

A DropDownByIndex UI element provides the user with a dropdown list box. You cannot select more than one entry from the selection list. The UI element consists of a text field, a button, and a selection list. Any list item already selected is displayed in the text field. When the user chooses the pushbutton, a list of all possible values is displayed.

They do not differ from each other when displayed on the screen. However, the data binding model for the two UI elements is compeletely different. Using a byte[] as a secondary index's key within the Collection's API
I am using JE 4.1.7 and its Collections API. Overall I am very satisfied with the ease of using JE within our applications. (I need to know more about maintenance, however!) My problem is that I wanted a secondary index with a byte[] key. The key contains the 16 bytes of an MD5 hash. However, while the code compiles without error when it runs JE tell me
Exception in thread "main" java.lang.IllegalArgumentException: ONE_TO_ONE and MANY_TO_ONE keys must not have an array or Collection type: example.MyRecord.hash
See test code below. I read the docs again and found that the only "complex" formats that are acceptable are String and BigInteger. For now I am using String instead of byte[] but I would much rather use the smaller byte[]. Is it possible to trick JE into using the byte[]? (Which we know it is using internally.)

// ENDWe have highly variable length data that we wish to use as keys. To avoid massive index sizes and slow key lookup we are using MD5 hashes (or something more collision resistant should we need it). (Note that I am making assumptions about key size and its relation to index size that may well inaccurate.)Thanks for explaining, that makes sense.
It would be the whole field. (I did consider using my own key data design using the @Persistent and @KeyField annotations to place the MD5 hash into two longs. I abandoned that effort because I assumed (again) that lookup with a custom key design would slower than the built-in String key implementation.)A composite key class with several long or int fields will not be slower than a single String field, and will probably result in a smaller key since the UTF-8 encoding is avoided. Since the byte array is fixed size (I didn't realize that earlier), this is the best approach.

Subject: Drop Down By index Vs Key
Question: I have domain with Fixed value and i want the drop down in webdynpro screen to pick the domain value automatically
what type of drop down should be used and can you differentiate the two types
kindly replyHi,
You should use drop down by key in order to select the domain value automatically.
Map your contxt attribute as a selected key property of the UI element property.
Diff. b/w the two avalable types:
For drop Down by index, You need to build the value table to the node intially and an intial value will be space by default.
For drop Down by key: you have val-nam pair i.e if you can decide to display domain value or description.
Hope this may be helpful.
Thank you

Error while renaming indexes and keys in the tables
hi gems...good afternoon..
i am using oracle 11gr2 database.
when i am trying to rename the primary key, foreign key, indexes of all the tables as per the standard, then the following error is given...
ORA-00604: error occurred at recursive SQL level 1
ORA-01000: maximum open cursors exceeded
ORA-00604: error occurred at recursive SQL level 1
ORA-01000: maximum open cursors exceeded
ORA-01000: maximum open cursors exceeded
currently the maximum open cursors parameter is set to 300.
please help..thanks in advancethanks a lot for your help..
there are total 162 records in the v$open_cursor for that user.
among that the open cursor is only 4 and open-recursive cursor is only 6 for that user.
in my session i am executing only the renaming of the constraints and nothing more.
When i have queried the v$open_cursor for cursor_type='OPEN' for all the users, then i got that it has exceeded the value of open_cursors parameter.
So how can i resolve that.... -
Sort a table with no index or key defined?
Greetz!
I've got a script that builds a table, table A, by doing a select into. Later, a select is done on that table and an order by added. However the sort order is not persisting. Could this be due to there being no indexes or primary keys defined
on table A? Can a sort be done on a table without an index of any kind?
Thanks!
Love them all...regardless. - BuddhaTo add to Erland's comment
You cannot "look" directly at the contents of a table - you must use a query to generate a resultset. And a resultset, just like a table, has no defined order unless it was generated using an order by clause. Any order you might observe
is simply an artifact of your data, the load on the db engine, the currently cached data, and many other factors. If you see a consistent order, you might be tempted to assume such an order will always exist. Don't be tempted. Many others
have been so tempted and have discovered the incorrectness of this assumption at a later date - often at an inconvenient time. -
Dimension table, indexing business key
Hi.
I my dimension table business key is Unique key constraint and business key is also a index key (unique).
My question is why is important for dimension to have index?
In my mapping I first load data into dimension and to merge data I use business key. Ok, business key is unique so I'm merging by constraint (UK).
I have a fact table mapping where I use previous dimension for lookup, and I do lookup by a business key.
I understand why we have index in fact tables, but in dimension?
When and why does business key index help me?Hi,
There are many reasons why we use indexex on dimensions.
1) The source key or natural key may or may not be a unique one in case of SCD2 and hence its faster to look up w.r.t the index key rather than the source key.
2) It is not a good idea to have all the source keys from ur dimensions in ur fact. We have to have the index keys anyway to speed up the process of quering.
3) The index key is always unique and so u will always land on only 1 record on any look up
