Indexing BLOBs on Oracle 8i (NT)

I am trying to index a blob field that contains many different MIME types. I've tried following the examples posted here but I always get 0 rows returned. I have a feeling it is something to do with my setup.
In the NT setup there is no ctx\bin, is there antother directory I should have in my path?
Thanks in advance

I think that the problem may be because the missing entry of your server (NT) IP address in TNSNAMES.ORA file (pls check in your machine for the file location).
ORACLE dB will be connected from the client based on the IP address entry in that tnsnames.ora file.

  • Problem full-text in blob column index created using Oracle Text

    Hi,
    I'm running Oracle Database 10g 10.2 on solaris
    I configure Oracle text if i look for in a varchar2 column is ok, but with blob column doesn't works the search.
    I have a table with a blob column which contains document. I load document with Oracle UCM (stellent)
    My index scripts is:
    CREATE INDEX ORAUCM.FT_IDCCOLL1 ON ORAUCM.IDCCOLL1
    (DDOCFULLTEXT)
    INDEXTYPE IS CTXSYS.CONTEXT
    PARAMETERS('DATASTORE CTXSYS.DEFAULT_DATASTORE FILTER CTXSYS.AUTO_FILTER FORMAT COLUMN DFULLTEXTFORMAT CHARSET
    COLUMN DFULLTEXTCHARSET LEXER OCS_IDCCOLL1_LEXER SYNC (ON COMMIT)')
    NOPARALLEL;
    And my select retunm 0 rows although it will be many documents:
    SELECT IdcColl2.dID, dDocName, dDocTitle, dDocType, dRevisionID, dSecurityGroup, dDocAuthor,
    dDocAccount, dRevLabel, dFormat, dOriginalName, dExtension, dWebExtension, dInDate, dOutDate,
    dPublishType, dRendition1, dRendition2, VaultFileSize, WebFileSize, URL, dFullTextFormat,
    dFullTextCharset, DocMeta.*
    FROM IdcColl1, DocMeta
    WHERE IdcColl1.dID=DocMeta.dID AND (CONTAINS(dDocFullText,'SUBIR') > 0 )
    ORDER BY dInDate Desc
    Thanks in advance.

    Thank you for your answer.
    I response your question:
    - yes DDOCFULLTEXT is a BLOB column.
    - The document that word, excels, whatever. We load the document with UCM (universal Content Management)
    because i need full-test search form UCM tool.
    - Yes 'subir' containts in the word document.
    - select * from CTX_USER_INDEX_ERRORS ;
    No rows returned.
    - SELECT TOKEN_TEXT FROM DR$FT_IDCCOLL1$I
    No rows returned.
    - I tried create symplifying index and doen't work.
    I tried create table and index context on oracle 10.2.0.3 (test database)and works ok.
    I compared both context (test database and ucm database) and i saw a difference:
    In ucm database there are these preferences "analyze text"
    BEGIN ctx_ddl.create_preference('ORAUCM.', 'WORLD_LEXER'); end;
    BEGIN ctx_ddl.create_preference('ORAUCM.', 'DETAIL_DATASTORE'); end;
    I don't know if is important diference or no.
    Please if you need more information, tell me.
    Thanks for your time.

  • How to convert varchar to BLOB in oracle 10g?

    Hi all,
    I have 2 columns A and B which are of varchar2(2000) dataype.
    I would like to concatinate these 2 columns and convert them into BLOB in oracle 10g.
    Any help is appreciated.
    Regards,
    Ravi

    don't use BLOB to store large text, use CLOB instead
    anyway:
    SQL> create table test
      2  (txt varchar2(10)
      3  ,other varchar2(10)
      4  );
    Table created.
    SQL>
    SQL> insert into test values ('some text', 'other text');
    1 row created.
    SQL>
    SQL> create table test2
      2  (col blob)
      3  /
    Table created.
    SQL>
    SQL> insert into test2
      2  select utl_raw.cast_to_raw (txt||other)
      3    from test
      4  /
    1 row created.
    SQL> select *
      2    from test2
      3  /
    SP2-0678: Column or attribute type can not be displayed by SQL*Plus
    SQL>
    SQL> select utl_raw.cast_to_varchar2(col)
      2    from test2
      3  /
    UTL_RAW.CAST_TO_VARCHAR2(COL)
    some textother text
    SQL>
    SQL> drop table test
      2  /
    Table dropped.
    SQL> drop table test2
      2  /
    Table dropped.

  • Serialization Object and storasge in blob field Oracle 8.1.6

    Hi,
    this is problem with serializing and deserializing when i am storing object serialized in a Blob field Oracle:
    MyObject myObject = new MyObject();
    ByteArrayOutputStream bayos = new ByteArrayOutputStream();
    ObjectOutputStream oos = new ObjectOutputStream (bayos);
    oos.writeObject(myObject);
    oos.flush();
    byte[] buffer = bayos.toByteArray();
    int size = buffer.length;
    oos.close();
    ByteArrayInputStream bayis = new ByteArrayInputStream(buffer,0,size);
    // if the number bytes of serialized myObject > 4kbytes then the insert in Blob field fails down.
    // if the number bytes of serialized myObject < 4kbytes then the insert in Blob field successes.
    // So I only can put in Blob field serialized object with size minus 4k.
    // The code for insert:
    PreparedStatement pstmt = connection.prepareStatement(sqlInsert);
    pstmt.setBinaryStream(1,bayis,size);
    int retCode = pstmt.executeUpdate();
    // The code for read from table Oracle
    rset = stmt.rxecuteQuery(sqlSelect);
    rset.next();
    oracle.sql.BLOB fldBlob = (BLOB)rset.getObject(1);
    InputStream ins = fldBlob.getBinaryStream();
    byte[] buf = new byte[size]
    ByteArrayInputStream bayis = new ByteArrayInputStream(buf,0,size);
    ObjectInputStream ois = new ObjectInputStream(bayis);
    MyObject myObject = (MyObject)ois.readObject();
    Someone knows the reason of the limit of 4Kbyte ?
    Thanks....

    Insert LOBs into Oracle is a 3 step process. You must insert a place holder, and the do a select for update to put the contents into the row. Lets say you have a table called MY_LOB:
    create table MY_LOB (
       MYID NUMERIC(10) NOT NULL,
       MYLOB BLOB DEFAULT EMPTY_BLOB()
    );The 'empty_blob' keyword tells Oracle to put a dummy value in the blob column when a row is initially created. To insert (assuming you have a db connection already):
    conn.setAutoCommit(false);
    PreparedStatement pstmt = null;
    ResultSet rs = null;
    oracle.sql.BLOB myLob = null;
    try
       //Insert the initial row.
       pstmt = conn.prepareStatement("INSERT INTO MY_LOB (MYID) VALUES (?)");
       //Set the PK value
       pstmt.setInt(1,100);
       pstmt.executeUpdate();
       pstmt.close();
       //Lock the row for insertion.  This is needed for large inserts.
       pstmt = conn.prepareStatement("SELECT MYLOB from MY_LOB where MYID = ? FOR UPDATE");
       pstmt.setInt(1,100);
       rs = pstmt.executeQuery();
       if (rs.next())
          myLob = (oracle.sql.BLOB)rs.getBlob(1);
       rs.close();
       pstmt.close();
       //Finally...update the row with the blob data....
       myLob.putBytes(1, buffer);
       pstmt = conn.prepareStatement("UPDATE MY_LOB SET MYLOB = ? WHERE MYID = ?");
       pstmt.setBlob(1, myLob);
       pstmt.setInt(2,100);
       pstmt.executeUpdate();
       pstmt.close();
       conn.commit();
    catch(SQLException sqlE)
        conn.rollback();
    finally
      //make sure and close all statements....
    }Hope this helps, I didn't compile it so it may have some bugs. It should lead in the right direction at least.

  • How load File as Blob in Oracle Table?

    Hi, I am beginner in ODI.
    How load File as BLOB in Oracle Table?

    Ah so nice, a FAQ, by someone who can't use online resources!
    Any explanation why Google is broken for you?
    Here is the code I use to load a jpg.
    procedure upd_portrait(p_person_id in number, p_file_name in varchar2) is
    l_blob blob;
    l_bfile bfile;
    begin
    update person
    set portrait = empty_blob()
    where id = p_person_id
    returning portrait into l_blob;
    l_bfile := bfilename('MY_IMAGES', p_file_name);
    dbms_lob.fileopen(l_bfile);
    dbms_lob.loadfromfile(l_blob, l_bfile, dbms_lob.getlength(l_bfile));
    dbms_lob.fileclose(l_bfile);

  • General error when accessing blob from oracle

    Hi
    I have successfully uploaded and saved images into oracle(8.1.5) table DATA_TYPE(dtid number, iconname varchar2(30), icon blob). When I try to retrieve icon from the database, I get "javax.servlet.ServletException: General error" at:
    PreparedStatement pstmt = myConnection.prepareStatement(mySQL);
    My code looks like this:
    imgModifyDataType.jsp
    <%
    ResultSet myResultSet = null;
    Statement myStatement = null;
    Connection myConnection = null;
    Class.forName("sun.jdbc.odbc.JdbcOdbcDriver").newInstance();
    myConnection = DriverManager.getConnection("Jdbc:Odbc:Te","te","te");
    String iconName;
    String pDTID = request.getParameter("dtid");
    String mySQL = "Select iconname, icon from data_types where dtid=?";
    //Following statement throws general error exception
    PreparedStatement pstmt = myConnection.prepareStatement(mySQL);
    pstmt.setString(1,pDTID);
    myResultSet = pstmt.executeQuery();
    iconName = myResultSet.getString("iconname");
    myUpload.initialize(pageContext);
    myUpload.downloadField(myResultSet,"icon","application/x-msdownload", iconName);
    %>
    One more thing. The error occurs only when I try to execute query retrieving blob data. The same set of statements works fine for simple text or numbers.
    Please help

    When you read a BLOB with ORACLE,
    you have to lock the corresponding row.
    This means that...
    - the connection must not be in "AUTO COMMIT" mode
    - you have to do a "SELECT ... FOR UPDATE"

  • Please HELP!!! I try to insert BLOB to Oracle

    Please help, I try to insert BLOB to Oracle.
    Here is my sample code. Basically what i tried to do is to to try to insert an image file to Oracle.
    But it did not work. If you have a sample code that works, please give me.
    Thanks,
    Tom
    try
    out.println ("Done");
    dbCon=trans.getConnection();
    dbCon.setAutoCommit(false);
    stmt1.execute ("update emorytest.PHYSICIANFOTO set FOTO=empty_blob() where name = 'foobar'");
    stmt = dbCon.prepareCall("SELECT FOTO from emorytest.PHYSICIANFOTO where name='foobar' for update");
    stmt.execute();
    rset = (OracleResultSet)stmt.getResultSet();
    rset.next();
    BLOB bdata = rset.getBLOB("test.jpg");
    os = bdata.getBinaryOutputStream();
    os.write(bdata);
    os.flush();
    os.close();
    dbCon.commit();
    dbCon.close();
    catch (Exception ex)
    ex.printStackTrace();

    Well, the obvious problem is that your "getBLOB" call ought to access the field by the field name "FOTO" not by a file name. Then you need to open an FileInputStream for the image before copying it to the blob's output stream.
    In my opinion BLOB and CLOB handling is jdbc is a confusing mess.

  • Problem with blob column index created using Oracle Text.

    Hi,
    I'm running Oracle Database 10g 10.2.0.1.0 standard edition one, on windows server 2003 R2 x64.
    I have a table with a blob column which contains pdf document.
    Then, I create an index using the following script so that I can do fulltext search using Oracle Text.
    CREATE INDEX DMCS.T_DMCS_FILE_DF_FILE_IDX ON DMCS.T_DMCS_FILE
    (DF_FILE)
    INDEXTYPE IS CTXSYS.CONTEXT
    PARAMETERS('DATASTORE CTXSYS.DEFAULT_DATASTORE');
    However, the index is not searchable and I check the following tables created by database for my index and found them to be empty as well !!
    DR$T_DMCS_FILE_DF_FILE_IDX$I
    DR$T_DMCS_FILE_DF_FILE_IDX$K
    DR$T_DMCS_FILE_DF_FILE_IDX$N
    DR$T_DMCS_FILE_DF_FILE_IDX$R
    I wonder what's wrong with it.
    My user has been granted the ctx_app role and I have other tables that store plain text which I use Oracle Text are fine. I even output the blob column and save as pdf file and they are fine.
    However the database seems like not indexing my blob column although the index can be created without error.
    Please advise.
    Really appreciate anyone who can help.
    Thank you.

    The situation is I have already loaded a few pdf document into the table's blob column.
    After I create the Oracle text index on this blob column, I find the system generated index tables listed in my earlier posting are empty, except for the 4th table.
    Normally we'll see words inside the table where those are the words indexed by oracle text on my document.
    As a result, no matter how i search for the index using select statement with contains operator, it will not give me any result.
    I feel weird why the blob is not indexed. The content of the blob are actually valid because I tested this by export the content back to pdf and I can still view and search within the pdf.
    Regards,
    Jap.

  • Index creation in Oracle Text ???

    Hi,
    I have never used oracle text before.
    The background info is got corruption errors on database alert log, identified it is an oracle9.2.0.5 bug in aix 5.2, need to apply 9.2.0.6 patchset. Temporary solution provided by oracle support was to drop and recreate an index.
    My approach was to identify the index name, associated column, reverse engineer the object ddl, drop the index and re-create the index. Should have been straight forward. The difference is the column is of BLOB datatype. My index script failed with ORA-02327. I get errors on alert log saying missing index.
    Don't know how to re-create the index on BLOB column in a table.
    Any help, much appreciated.
    Thanks
    Murali

    Hi,
    For your recreation, check out CTX_REPORT.CREATE_INDEX_SCRIPT. It will generate all of the ddl that you need.
    Thanks,
    Ron

  • Index rules in oracle text and query using matches

    Dear All,
    I would like to ask about rules and matches function in oracle text.
    I followed an example in oracle text application developer's guide.
    I have a rule table like this :
    1 oracle
    2 larry or ellison
    3 oracle and text
    4 market share
    then, I create an index to that table. This is needed for calling matches function. Here is the syntax :
    create index queryx on queries(query_string)
    indextype is ctxsys.ctxrule;
    then, I noticed that the result on DR$QUERYX$I table as follows :
    LARRY 0 2 2 1 (BLOB)
    MARKET 0 4 4 1 (BLOB) {MARKET} {SHARE}
    ORACLE 0 1 1 1 (BLOB)
    ORACLE 0 3 3 1 (BLOB) {TEXT}
    ELLISON 0 2 2 1 (BLOB)
    What I want to ask is why doesn't the words 'share' and 'text' appear in the DR$QUERYX$ table?
    When we use matches function, it then search on the index result and consequently it wion't find the 'share' word. so when for example I do query like this :
    select query_id from queries where matches(query_string,' It only share ten percent of all products sold')>0
    it will give 0 result since the no word in ' It only share ten percent of all products sold' was in index table. But actually it could possibly be categorized as the 4 category which rules is 'market share'
    I tried this in a larger set of data and get same result.
    Here is my generated rules from my document collection :

    And this is the index table result with ctxrule :

    so when I try to classify a document with the word ouline inside it, it should produce category 1 (based on the rules) but since there are no word 'outline' in index tabel, the matches will return 0 means that the document is not classifiedto any category. I don't understand why it happen. Anybody knows about this? I would really appreciate any help.
    Thank you very much.

    Hm, I see. It do make sense. so nice to know.
    But then in the second example I gift where I used larger table, as shown below :
    Here is my generated rules from my document collection :
    1 {REQUIREMENTS} & {ELICITATION}
    1 {REQUIREMENTS} ~ {ELICITATION} & {ACTOR}
    1 {REQUIREMENTS} ~ {ELICITATION} ~ {ACTOR} & {FURPS}
    1 {REQUIREMENTS} ~ {ELICITATION} ~ {ACTOR} ~ {FURPS} ~ {OUTLINE}
    1 {REQUIREMENTS} ~ {ELICITATION} ~ {ACTOR} ~ {FURPS} ~ {OUTLINE} & {PROC}
    1 {REQUIREMENTS} ~ {ELICITATION} ~ {ACTOR} ~ {FURPS} ~ {OUTLINE} ~ {PROC} & {SPEED}
    1 {REQUIREMENTS} ~ {ELICITATION} ~ {ACTOR} ~ {FURPS} ~ {OUTLINE} ~ {PROC} ~ {SPEED} & {DOCUME}
    1 {INTERPRETATION} ~ {REQUIREMENTS}
    2 {DESIGN} & {REPRESENTATION}
    2 {DESIGN} ~ {REPRESENTATION} & {MAY} & {FOUNDATI} & {OCTOBER}
    2 {DESIGN} ~ {REPRESENTATION} & {MAY} & {FOUNDATI} ~ {OCTOBER} & {PROCEDURAL}
    2 {DESIGN} ~ {REPRESENTATION} & {MAY} & {FOUNDATI} ~ {OCTOBER} ~ {PROCEDURAL} & {STRICT}
    2 {DESIGN} ~ {REPRESENTATION} ~ {MAY}
    3 {PM} & {TESTING} & {ATTRIBUTI}
    As far as I know, the sign ' ~ ' means 'OR' and '&' means 'and' . So based on the 4th line in my table :
    1 {REQUIREMENTS} ~ {ELICITATION} ~ {ACTOR} ~ {FURPS} ~ {OUTLINE}
    it can be concluded that if any of the words stated there been queried, so the category '1' will appear as a result. But then before we can use 'matches' to query it, we need ti create index for the rules table . I did it and the result were :
    (only the token_text column shown)
    PM

    there were no words other than PM, DESIGN< REQUIREMENTS and INTERPRETATION. Why the words REQUIREMENTS, ELICITATION, ACTOR, FURPS, OUTLINE don't appear in the index result?

  • How Indexing function in Oracle UCM 11g

    Hello All,
    I am using Oracle UCM 11g on Windows platform.
    I wanted to know as how the indexing in Oracle UCM Funtions? Here are few more questions related to this.
    1. If multiple language characters are added in document and if document is indexed, then
    how the data (tokens) will be stored in Database?
    2. How the search will function

    Hi
    1. If multiple language characters are added in document and if document is indexed, then
    a. how the data (tokens) will be stored in Database?
    This is stored in the DB tables IdcColl1 or IdcColl2 ( if DB FullText is search indexer engine) and table would be IdcText1 or IdcText2(if OracleTextSearch indexer is used) . It is these tables that store the entire data from the contents and they are referred to / queried when a FT search is invoked from UCM .
    b. how indexing will be done?
    Indexer would extract all the data from the contents in case of FT indexer mechanism and would store them in the DB tables mentioned above . It is stored in BLOB columns where in the extraction process would do an insert for every content item that is being processed when Collection Rebuild Cycle / Automatic Update cycle is started .
    2. What is settings to be done in Oracle and search engine for this?
    For DB the relevant UCM scripts need to be executed so that the correct role are created and the packages are created.
    3. What will be extra settings need to be done in case if the OS changes for example Linux.
    The relevant libraries need to be checked to make sure that indexer can access them since there are lots of dependent libraries for the indexer process which is invoked by the TextExport process and these libraries vary for different OS . As part of the indexer process to be running fine all that needs to be done is to install/enable the OS specific versions of ContentAccess component on UCM .
    Hope this gives an understanding on the Indexing part of UCM .
    Thanks
    Srinath

  • Indexing BLOB containing multimedia data

    Hello,
    I have a blob column I'd like to index so I can perform text searches in it using a CONTEXT index. The problem is, I may find any type of data in it, even audio or video. The INSO filter recognizes images so it works correctly, but an audio file takes too long and creates lots of useless records in the index table. I've read I can create a format column and set it to IGNORE for the files I don't want to index, but this woul imply checking every file's format before inserting it. Is there any other way of doing it? I'm using Oracle 9.2
    Thank you
    Rafa

    Hi,
    Can you write something to recognize the files that you will either support or not support (like look at the extension or object metadata - possibly work with interMedia). Write the that other column (to ignore or not) based on the type.
    Just a thought since your post has been hanging for a while w/o response - don't know that it actually helps, but thought I'd mention it as a possibility.

  • Update of data stored in BLOB of Oracle

    Hi,
    During the update of data stored in BLOB, the data integrity disturbance is happening, so it becomes impossible to receive new data with small volume from the BLOB than the data stored in BLOB.

    Try searching the forums for oracle and lob, there will be plenty of articles.
