Inheritane in EJB3.0
Hi all,
I'm having a reqt of using inheritance in EJB3. There is Master table BP and child table E.
When I insert table E, BP table has to persist first and then the table E.
Table E has the foreign key reference of BP table.
Could anyone help me in finding which type of Inheritance to use and how to use it.
Thnks in advance.......
Sounds like normal Joined table inheritance in JPA.
Basically you need to use,
@Inheritance(strategy=InheritanceType.JOINED)
See,
http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Java_Persistence/Inheritance#Joined.2C_Multiple_Table_Inheritance

EJB3.0 Entity cannot get attributes of extended class
Hi ,
Have a very simple issue ..quite baisc one. So hopefully I"ll get an answer !
Am using EJB3.0 with WL10.3. Like any other application , every entity has id and version column. So I decided to put these fields in EntityBase.java
Other Entities will extend this entity .
For EG : Entity Organisation extends EntityBase. Organisation will have only other setter/getter for attributes. Setter/Getter for id/version will be in EntityBase. Application is deployed sucessfully and I dont get any exception, But when I try to getOrganisation Entity , id and version is null. Looks like WL is not able set id and version in EntityBase.
Am I missing something here ? How can we make an Entity extends any other class and at the same time tell the container to set/get inhertied values ? Code for EntityBase and Organisation goes something like below
public class EntityBase implements Serializable{
private static final long serialVersionUID = 1L;
// ---- Entity id
@Id
@GeneratedValue(strategy=GenerationType.SEQUENCE ,generator="ID_SEQ")
@SequenceGenerator(name="ID_SEQ" ,sequenceName="OBJECT_ID_SEQ" )
@Column(name="ID")
private int id ;
public int getId() {
return this.id;
// ---- Entity version
@Version
private int version ;
public int getVersion() { return this.version; }
Organisation.java is
@Entity
@Table(name="TYPED_T")
@Inheritance(strategy = InheritanceType.TABLE_PER_CLASS)
public class Organisation extends EntityBase{
private static final long serialVersionUID = 1L;
..setter/getter for other attributes
Thanks in advanceHi, if you want your entity to inherit from a superclass that provides persistent entity state and mapping information, please use @MappedSuperclass.
You can find the definition and example from EJB3.0 Spec, chapter 2.1.9.2.
E.g.
@MappedSuperclass
public class Employee {
@Id protected Integer empId;
@Version protected Integer version;
@ManyToOne @JoinColumn(name="ADDR")
protected Address address;
public Integer getEmpId() { ... }
public void setEmpId(Integer id) { ... }
public Address getAddress() { ... }
public void setAddress(Address addr) { ... }
// Default table is FTEMPLOYEE table
@Entity
public class FTEmployee extends Employee {
// Inherited empId field mapped to FTEMPLOYEE.EMPID
// Inherited version field mapped to FTEMPLOYEE.VERSION
// Inherited address field mapped to FTEMPLOYEE.ADDR fk
// Defaults to FTEMPLOYEE.SALARY
protected Integer salary;
public FTEmployee() {}
public Integer getSalary() { ... }
public void setSalary(Integer salary) { ... }
Thanks,

Weblogic 10.3.2 EJB3 Local Interface in POJO/Helper classes
Hi,
I have a jar file containing all EJB's in application & some Helper classes. I want to access Local interfaces of EJBs in those helper classes. Is there any way I can do it? I've gone through Maxence Button & Jay SenSharma 's blogs about accessing Local interface. but it doesn't help. May be these two guys can help me more here.. My requirement is very simple. Just to access local interface in POJO/Helper classes that are in same JAR file as EJB's. I can't get reference with @EJB class level annotation as Helper classes are called independently from MBean services.. not from any EJB or Servlert.
Please if anyone can tell me how do I get reference of local interfaces, that would be really good.
my environment is
Weblogic 10.3.2

EJB3 & Patterns: Transfer Objects
EJB3 Entities look really nice, but I have a couple of slightly related questions...
Now that our entities are also POJOs, do we need the TO pattern all that much?
With EJB2 I would have the heavy entity/session beans create light POJO TOs to pass trough the session beans on to the client, this would decouple the clients from the entity beans and if we refactored the entities the clients wouldn't need to know as long as we didn't refactor the POJO TOs.
With EJB3, the entity beans are also POJOs when they leave the container... thus I don't have to write two sets of classes... but I lose the decoupling...
I'm not entirely sure I wanted the decoupling all that much for most of the time... and I suppose if we do refactor, I can just keep the former EJB3 Entity/POJO TO as a POJO TO and generate it from the now refactored EJB3 entities... but I'll still have the annotations in the class (unless I strip them... which means recompile the client) so now I have TOs which were EJB3 Entities and are still annotated as such, but which are not being used as such anymore... sounds like a mess!
And now for the more specific question:
@Entity
class Customer {
private List<Project> projects;
@OneToMany
public List<Project> getProjects() { /* ... */ }
@Entity
class Project {
private Customer customer;
private List<Task> tasks;
private boolean active;
@ManyToOne
public Customer getCustomer() { /* ... */ }
@OneToMany
public List<Task> getTasks () { /* ... */ }
public boolean isActive() { /* ... */ }
@Entity
class Task {
private Project project;
@ManyToOne
public Project getProject() { /* ... */ }
}Now in the above situation, customers have 100s to 1000s of projects each with 10s to 100s of tasks... i.e. the projects are not exactly light objects in and of themselves. (note: i've refactored the object names into a more easily identified problem domain)
I want to pass a customer object to the client app...
in some situations the client app does not need to know all the past projects of the customer, only the active ones
in other cases the client app needs to know nothing about projects (active or not)
in other cases the client app needs to know only the project names...
Question: (obviously we'll use LAZY fetching) what's going to happen to my customer entity when I detach it to use it as a TO?
Will it only have those child objects that I accessed before detaching? Or will it have the potentially megabytes of data for all the inactive projects and all their tasks? My guess is that it depends on the container... and it looks like I'm back to having building TOs in order to guarantee good performance across container vendors
Or have I got it all wrong?
Do I just have to have three getClient methods in my CustomerRepositoryBean...
public Customer findCustomer(...) /* before we detach, recurse all the projects and their associated tasks in the customer to ensure it's all been fetched */
public Customer findCustomerWithActiveProjectNamesOnly(...) /* before we detach, recurse all active projects, but only access the project name field of the projects */
public Customer findCustomerWithoutProjectDetail(...) /* detach without accessing the projects */OK, I'm not the only person thinking that DTOs are note so necessary anymore with EJB3...
http://www.jroller.com/page/raghukodali?entry=dto_an_antipattern_in_ejb
But I'm wondering if I have a case for them with my code sample... -
EJB3 - More than one remote interface for Session Bean?
Hi,
Is it possible in EJB3 to have more than one remote interface for a SessionBean?
I have seen it posetd on here that it is possible but never been able to find any other information.
Using JBoss as my App Server, I have deployed an App, where a SessionBean is defined as implementing 2 interfaces, both of which are annotated using @remote.
However when I examine the JBoss JMX Console, Global JNDI Namespace only one remote interface is listed, and indeed it is the first one defined in the SessionBean.
Considering I use a String similar to (MyApp/MyBean/remote) to do the JNDI lookup, this would indicate that it is not possible to have more than one remote interface.
1. Is this a JBoss specific limitation?
2. Is there another way of performing the JNDI lookup?
Thanks,
Alan.Hi,
Thanks for prompt response! I tried the suggestion in my application, and the output from JBoss JMX Console was
+- XXXBean (class: org.jnp.interfaces.NamingContext)
| | +- remote (proxy: $Proxy291 implements No ClassLoaders found for: xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx.Remote1 (no security manager: RMI class loader disabled))Again only displaying the remote interface that is first in the @remote ({ Remote1.class , Remote2.class}) list. This would lead me to believe that JBoss does not support this.
Can anyone confirm this?

How can i use Hibernate 3.2 as my ejb3 persistence manager
I get issues when i try to use Hibernate 3.2 as my ejb3 persistence manager in OC4J 10.1.3. I have included a persistence.xml file in META-INF/ of my ejb-jar.
My classes are well annotated and would otherwise work with toplink, however i need to use hibernate.

It's a common misconception that Java Persistence API Entity classes are ejb components but they are NOT. The Java Persistence API was developed within the EJB 3.0 JSR and works very well with EJB but the entity classes themselves are not full-fledged ejb components.

>Hi,
The issue is that the weblogic EJB compiler isn't reading the varargs method modifier properly in your class files (it is mistaking it for a transient field). I think you will either have to:
a) Remove vararg methods from your EJBs.
b) Wait for a new release of Weblogic 10.
This issue was a bit of a pain for us as we are trying to use Seam to integrate various bits of the JEE specification together (and the Seam TimerDispatcher EJB uses vararg methods). -
Error while running Client for accessing EJB3.0 wes service..
Hi:
I have created client for accessing EJB3.0 web service using Jax-ws.
I am using JBoss server.
But the problem is after running the client i am getting following error :

at MainMethod.main(MainMethod.java:21)Can any body give me solution on this?
Thank You.the problem seems to lie in a combination of JDK 6 and a specific version of SAAJ that it has integrated. Different resources on the net indicate that if you use a newer version of SAAJ, 1.3.1 or higher, it should be fixed.

How to do batchreading of collections in EJB3
Hi!
I'm trying to migrate a small example from using ordinary toplink mapping in the mapping workbench to EJB3. There are some collections in that example that I want to be read as batch. (It's a check box called "Batch Reading" in the mapping workbench). Is it possible to do this in EJB3 and how? It would be very useful as it has proven to me to be a very effective way of limiting the number of roundtrips to the database.
Regards,
Bjorn BoeBeautiful!
One other thing that I've noticed is the lack of support for configuring caching on the mappings. The closest I've come to documentation on this has been to configure bean instance pool timeout in the orion-ejb-jar.xml, which I hope was documentation on something else. Do you know if there are any plans on doing something there or other ways to get around this that won't involve using the mapping workbench for mappings?

This my EJB3 bean code:
@Stateless(name="GruposUnidadesService",
mappedName="GruposUnidadesService")

In the mappedName I have tried different ways like: "ejb/GruposUnidadesService"
but I always get the same exception.

Here, I have tried adding the resourceRef property set
to true and to false and always I get the exception.

We have an oracle sequence which we use to generate primary keys. This sequence is set to increment by 5.
e.g.:
create sequence pk_sequence increment by 5;
This is so weblogic doesn't need to query the sequence on every entity bean creation, it only needs to query the sequence every 5 times.
With CMP2 entity beans and automatic key generation, this was configured simply by having the following in weblogic-cmp-rdbms-jar.xml:
<automatic-key-generation>
<generator-type>Sequence</generator-type>
<generator-name>pk_sequence</generator-name>
<key-cache-size>5</key-cache-size>
</automatic-key-generation>
This works great, the IDs created are 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, etc and weblogic only needs to hit the sequence 1/5 times.
However, we have been trying to find the equivalent with the EJB3-style JPA entities:
We've tried
@SequenceGenerator(name = "SW_ENTITY_SEQUENCE", sequenceName = "native(Sequence=pk_sequence, Increment=5, Allocate=5)")
@SequenceGenerator(name = "SW_ENTITY_SEQUENCE", sequenceName = "pk_sequence", allocationSize = 5)
But with both configurations, the autogenerated IDs are 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, etc - weblogic seems to be getting a new value from the sequence every time.
Am i missing anything?
We are using weblogic 10.3If you are having a problem it is not clear what it is from what you have said. If you have sugestions for improving some shortcomings you see in Flash CC then you should submit them to:

Hi I am new to EJB . Now in our project we are using ejb3 and persistance. So tried
a simple program which I found out from net. But when I am trying to run I am getting
bean not bound. And in JBoss console it is showing error like
ObjectName: jboss.jca:service=DataSourceBinding,name=DefaultDS State: NOTYETINSTALLED
These are all my files.

I have the same problem in the same Book example ,my ejb3 project name "BaseHotele" so i follow what u said and this is my persistence.xml:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<persistence>
<persistence-unit name="FirstEjb3Tutorial">
*<jta-data-source>java:BaseHoteleDS</jta-data-source>*
<properties>

value="create-drop"/>
</properties>
</persistence-unit>
</persistence>
But it didn't work i have always HotelTestBean not bound!!
Help PLEASE i think that i had a mistake in the persistence.xml:i have 2 days searching for solutions without a good result!!!!!!!!!!!!! -
How to get resultset from oracle procedure use ejb3
how to get resultset from oracle procedure use ejb3
i know oracle procedure should like this
Create or replace PROCEDURE resultset_test(
aaa IN NUMBER,
bbb OUT sys_refcursor) ....
but what s the ejb3 scripts looks like? please give me an example or link~
ths- there are no EJB3 scripts, only compiled application code
- the part of the EJB spec that deals with databases is called the Java Persistence API, but likely you are just looking for the JDBC API.
Now you should know what to Google to get your "example script": "java jdbc oracle procedure" -
Local EJB3 DC builds use a 1.4 compiler
Hello,
my NWDS 7.10 was configured to use a JDK 1.4 for some time. Now I want to build an EJB 3 Project in a Local Development DC. The problem is that the studio still uses the 1.4 compiler when I trigger a build with Development Component -> build and does cannot compile Java 5 code.
I have already checked Window -> Preferences -> Development Infrastructure -> DC Build as well as Window -> Preferences -> Java -> Installed JREs, deleted the 1.4 entries and have both point to 1.5 compilers.
Below are the details of an empty EJB3 Project build:

Deleting all workspaces, saved setings and NWDS followed by a reinstall might fix it. But maybe somebody knows where the compiler settings for a DC build are stored.
Thanks for your help!Ok, I found it...
There's a small sly file jdkPreferences.txt lurking in the workspace/LocalDevelopment folder. I changed it from
#JDK Properties for Configuration LocalDevelopment
#Tue Jun 24 10:32:21 CEST 2008
jdk_source=1.4
jdk_path=C\:\\j2sdk1.4.2_15
jdk_target=1.4
to
#JDK Properties for Configuration LocalDevelopment
#Tue Jun 24 10:32:21 CEST 2008
jdk_source=1.5
jdk_path=C\:\\Programme\\Java\\jrockit-R27.4.0-jdk1.6.0_02
jdk_target=1.5
and now my Local Components can be built.
