Init and main

can anybody help me understand the difference between init and main methods.
I am a beginner,so please take it easy if thequestion seems stupid.
thank you
saumya

init() comes into picture only in servlets !??That isn't what he said, that was just an example. The init() method is used by a lot of APIs, but all for the same basic principal:
The class will be instantiated (the constructor will be called), but the process the class represents may run right away. There may be more initialisation needed. The init() method is called after all initialisation is done, and before the process begins to run. Thus, if you want to prepare your class you use the init() method (so you know it will always occur after full initialisation and before execution).
but you mean,if i am developing an applet then no
need to right main() ?That is correct. You do not need a main() unless your app is a stand-alone application.
and if i am developing a stanalone application
suppose in swing i need not right init() ?That depends. Generally no. But some classes/APIs may require you to.

  • Blocking the applet and main threads ?

    The thread that runs the Applet callback methods like init() and start() is a thread named applet-your.package.your.classname.class.
    If I am doing a blocking method call, i.e. a method call that does not return immediately like doing I/O read on a socket connection, is it ok to do it on the thread mentioned above ? In other words, is it ok to hang/suspend/block the applet thread ?
    What about blocking the main thread that calls
    public static void main(String args[]) {}
    Thanks.

    eminformatics, thanks for the reply.

  • What's the difference between Main ( ) and Main { } ?

    I have been searching around, but still no luck finding the difference between Main ( ) and Main { }. I found that java uses ( ), and javafx uses { }. But in javafx I can still use ( ). Is there different meaning?
    Thanks.

    I am not sure what you mean, but I will take a guess.
    Remember just one thing:
    1) You can easily instantiate a class to an object in JAVAFX using a JAVA or JAVAFX class, but in JAVA you can only instantiate JAVA objects.
    (Not completely true. If you really want a headache then you can instantiate JAVAFX classes in JAVA, but it is not easy.)
    Let me give you the following class that contains some variable:
    JAVA
    class MainJava {
         int     blaInt;
         long    blaLong;
         String  someString;
         String  anotherString = "(First Bicycle) Look mom no Hands... Look Mom no teeth.";
         public MainJava() {
             // Before this contructor runs all variables will first be initializes to their default values or whatever you put in them above
             // Construct things :)
         } // END CONSTRUCTOR for MainJava
    } // END CLASS MainJavaJAVAFX
    class MainJavaFx {
         var     blaInt : Integer;
         var     blaLong : java.lang.Long; // The most usefull number made difficult in JAVAFX :(
         var     someString : String;
         var     anotherString = "(First Bicycle) Look mom no Hands... Look Mom no teeth."; // Thats nice. No need for a type :) Heaven ... I'm in Heaven
         init {
             // Before this contructor runs all variables will first be initializes to their default values or whatever you put in them above
             // Construct things :)
         } // END CONSTRUCTOR for MainJava
    } // END CLASS MainJavaFxThese 2 classes are affectively the same.
    One written in Java and one in JAVAFX.
    You already seem to know JAVA so I am going to talk in JAVAFX code from now on.
    1) To instantiate a JAVA class in JAVAFX is the same as in JAVA.
      var myNewObj = new MainJava();2) To instantiate a JAVAFX class in JAVAFX you do the following.
      var myNewObj = MainJavaFx{}; // Weeeee .. easy hey :) I likeThink of init{} as the contractor of the class in JAVAFX, because there is no more constructors in JAVAFX like in JAVA.
    Also in JAVA you can pass parameters to the class constructor, whereas in JAVAFX that is not possible anymore.
    So sad, but what JAVAFX taketh away ... JAVAFX giveth so muchth moreth ... th...
    Now witness the power of ... JAVAFX ...
    In JAVAFX you can instantiate any "var" variables when you create the object from the class.
    Therefore you do not need to pass parameters to the init constructor, most of the time you do not even need init.
    So lets say you want to give the class variable other default values in the JAVAFX class then you can do it like this:
      var myNewObj = MainJavaFx{
                                                   blaLong : java.lang.System.currentTimeMillis()
                                                   blaInt : 1234
                                                   someString : "Going to the Hospital I see"
                                                   anotherString : "Thorry Mom."
                                          }; // Weeeee .. easy hey :) I likeNow isn't that nice.
    Keep in mind that the init{} and postinit{} code blocks will only run if they exist after the object is created and therefore the variables will already be changed to the values you have given them when you instantiated the class.
    Cool hey :)
    You can not do that to a JAVA object, but then again if you need to change the class variables of a JAVA object then just create a constructor that takes paramaters and update the class variables in the constructor.

  • Classloader difference in init() and destroy()?

    I was getting a ClassNotFoundException (see below) inside a log4j call from my servlet destroy() method. To test, I attempted the same log4j call from my servlet init() method and it works just fine. In fact, in this test, since the class is already loaded at init time it finds it successfully at destroy time (ie. the log4j call is successful). But, if I take the call out of init and the class in not loaded anywhere prior to destroy(), it fails with the ClassNotFoundException in destroy(). Anybody have any insight on this one? Thanks.
              The exception stack dump:
              java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: org/apache/log4j/spi/ThrowableInformation
                   at org.apache.log4j.spi.LoggingEvent.<init>(LoggingEvent.java:145)
                   at org.apache.log4j.Category.forcedLog(Category.java:372)
                   at org.apache.log4j.Category.info(Category.java:691)
              I'm using log4j version 1.2.7.
              I'm importing org.apache.log4j.Logger;
              I instantiate in my class: private Logger theLog = Logger.getLogger(this.getClass());
              I'm calling: theLog.info(String s, Throwable e);

    Where do you have the log4j.jar? It sounds like the ClassFinder for that jar has already been closed (as part of the undeployment) by the time your destroy is called.

    There are some keyboard commands (shortcuts) you can use instead of having to go to the Apple menu -
    Control-Eject          This brings up the Restart-Sleep-Cancel-Shutdown window.
    Command-Option-Eject          This puts the machine to sleep.
    Command-Control-Eject          This closes all apps and restarts the machine.

  • Performing Init and Init of Delta in BI 7.0

    Hi,
    As we use to create two info packages in BW 3.5, one for "INIT" and another for "INIT of Delta".
    Do we have to create two infopackages in BI 7.0 too?
    If we create two info Packages, then do we have to create two DTP's too?
    Please let me know how does that work.
    Thanks,

    U have to create 2 IP's, and 1 DTP(delta) only.

  • I have Lion as my current and main OS. Is it possible to partition part of my hard drive for Snow Leopard?

    I have Lion as my current and main OS. Is it possible to partition part of my hard drive for Snow Leopard? I'm good on partitioning but when I insert the Snow Leopard install disk a message tells me I can't run the install program because I currently have Lion installed... obviously. Have I gone about this the wrong way? Do I need to boot the computer using the Snow Leopard install disk instead of my main HD?

    Apple will never update that as for the most part it is true, and the fact that they really don't want you to run older OS X versions (for whatever reason).
    Now this probably won't work with the next line of MBPs and MBAs that come out. But it is for the current builds.
    But as I stated you need one of the lastest builds of SL for it to even boot the system.
    It won't work with the retail 10.6.3 DVD disc. That version does not have the correct drivers for the newest Mac's.

  • ALV GRID: How to change Subtotal and Main total values in standard row

    Hi Experts,
    By using SORT-SUBTOT = 'X' and  FIELDCATALOG-DO_SUM    = 'X', I will get subtotal and Main total.
    My requiremnt is I need be calculate values manually and pass the calculated values to subtotal and maintotal.
    is it possible in ALV GRID?
    By adding extra row we will do this but I am looking standard subtotal and maintotal row change.
    Thanks in advance,
    Mahe

    Hi,
    With function REUSE_ALV_GRID_DISPLAY you cannot do this.
    It´s possible if you create a class inherited from cl_gui_alv_grid and rewrite the method set_data_table, you can do this. Like:
    CLASS xgrid DEFINITION INHERITING FROM cl_gui_alv_grid.
      PROTECTED SECTION.
        METHODS: set_data_table REDEFINITION.
    ENDCLASS.                    "xgrid DEFINITION
    CLASS xgrid IMPLEMENTATION.
      METHOD set_data_table.
    * ....MODIFY data_table ...
        CALL METHOD super->set_data_table
          CHANGING
            data_table = data_table.
      ENDMETHOD.                    "set_data_table
    ENDCLASS.                    "xgrid IMPLEMENTATION
    DATA:    grid  TYPE REF TO xgrid.
      CREATE OBJECT custom_container EXPORTING container_name = mycontainer.
      CREATE OBJECT grid  EXPORTING i_parent = custom_container.
      CALL METHOD grid1->set_table_for_first_display ...

  • The execution time of init() and start().

    Hi everybody,
    I am reading The Complete Reference Java 2 (1999).
    It says "Whereas init() is called once -- the first time an applet is loaded -- start() is called each time an applet's HTML document is displayed onscreen. So, if a user leaves a web page and comes back, the applet resumes execution at start()"
    According to the above words, I think an applet is initialized at the point of starting the HTML file containing the applet for the first time, i.e., init() is called. At the same time, start() is called following init(). Then if input a URL to start another HTML file and press "Back" button of the browser, start() should be called once more. Implicitly, only one instance of that applet is created and it exists until the user closes the browser.
    I tried to test it using the code as bellow. In init(), String msg is initialized using current time. Instance variable i is defined with default value 1 and increased by 1 in start(). I supposed the time contained in msg remained constant and variable i increased one by one while going to a different URL and coming back repeatly.
    Unfortunately, the time changed each time when coming back from another URL and i did not increase. It seems that a new instance (object) is created at that point. If so, differenciating init() and start() makes no sense. I am confused with it . Can anybody give me some further information? Thank you very much.

  • Problem in file association and main-class in JWS

    Hello , all
    I have a problem in JWS with file association and main-class. I have a java application that has two entry classes, one is appmain.class that is required to launch from web, and the other is player.class that is required to launch when user double-click the .abc extension file.
    In JWS 5.0+, there is a association element in JNLP syntax that can be used to make the file association with .abc extension. But how can I declare the main-class in JNLP file?
    If I declare the application-desc element as <application-desc main-class="player">, the player.class will be launched from web. But if I declare it as <application-desc main-class="appmain">, the .abc extension wil be associated to the appmain.class.
    Does anyone know how to solve this problem? Thank you for your kindly help.

    One way is to define a third main that refers
    to the other two, as appropriate. E.G. if the
    web based main does not include -open as
    its arguments, it is easy.class WebStartSpringboard {
      /** Call web based main unless args include -open. */
      public static void main(String[] args) {
        if (args[0].equals("-open") ) {
          OpenFileBasedClass.main(args);
        } else {
          WebBasedClass.main(args);
    }Other measures might be taken for a situation
    where the web based version does include a
    -open argument.

    Just because something is created in DW CS3 doesn't mean it's
    not a
    disaster, any more than using DeWalt power tools guarantees
    that my
    carpentry won't be a complete mess. The software is not a
    replacement for
    skills. It is a tool; your workflow and understanding of HTML
    and CSS is
    what allows you to use DW effectively.
    So why did I call this page a disaster? When I see all that
    extra markup,
    spans, and inline tags, I shudder. It's way too hard to
    troubleshoot. You're
    not doing nearly enough with descendant selectors; instead,
    most of your
    code is inline, despite a huge CSS file.
    Just one example: individual li tags with div align="center"
    inside of them.
    Way overkill. If you're centering all the li text in a given
    list, control
    it with CSS and kill all that extra markup.
    E.g.
    .MenuBarHorizontal li { text-align:center; }
    In fact, if all there is in that .MenuBarHorizontal is the
    list, you don't
    even need to specify the list in the CSS. Just do:
    .MenuBarHorizontal { text-align:center; }
    Now you don't need div tags inside your li at all.
    And if all of those a tags in that menu are going to be
    .style16 class,
    don't specify it on each link. In fact, don't even have a
    .style 16 class.
    Heck, since it's just specifying font size, you don't need to
    target the a
    tag at all. Just add font-size:x-small; to the
    .MenuBarHorizontal ruleset I
    gave you above.
    The above are just examples from a quick glance at your code.
    On the whole,
    your markup and approach to styles are largely wasting the
    power and point
    of CSS.
    In addition, several styles spanned onto one line of text...
    a sure sign
    that either you are using far too many styles to make design
    sense, or else
    you've got styles that overlap each other.
    Here's my advice: Until you get a better handle on CSS, don't
    style things
    as you go. Forget styles altogether at the start. Create a
    very clean HTML
    markup and put ID and class selectors on things you know will
    need them.
    Preferably, place the HTML elements in the order you would
    want your page
    read if styling did not even exist, nesting elements where
    necessary.
    After you have created all the HTML structure, then go back
    and style the
    elements via CSS only. You will end up with less page weight
    and far cleaner
    code to decipher, not simply in terms of length but in terms
    of conflicts
    and redundancies.
    If you're really insistent on styling things as you go, at
    least do this:
    don't create a new style every time you want to accomplish
    something. Create
    CSS rules for IDed containers and container classes. Then as
    you go along
    and are about to create a style, ask yourself where you are
    and what all
    this new rule needs to apply to. Specify the rule there,
    under the selector
    you've already created. Then you won't have .style1 -
    .style16 like you do
    now, and you won't have all that inline mess of code to sort
    through.
    Finally - as you create your CSS, discipline yourself to
    avoid style spans.
    They are necessary on the odd occasion, but very rarely.
    Think semantically
    (i.e. purpose of the style point you're making at a given
    time).
    For example, if you're tempted to create a span in order to
    put something in
    bold red, ask yourself: "Why?" Generally, it means you want
    to place special
    emphasis or strength on that. Well, in that case you don't
    need a span. You
    need to be using the proper tag, such as <em>
    (emphasis) or <strong>. Then
    you can style that tag in CSS. That way, what you have in
    your page actually
    makes sense apart from the style, and as a bonus you can
    apply or edit your
    style easily.

  • Middleware: BDoc to IDoc conversion - init and delta

    Hi,
    First of all let me just say, that I know nothing about CRM (I'm an XI guy), but need to investigate on a matter, so please take that into accound when reading this post and responding to it.
    Scenario:
    Business Partners, Business Transaction Messages (orders and activities) need to be replicated to an external system. This is achieved by converting BDocs for the respective messages into IDocs via CRM Middleware and then sending IDoc to XI which in turn posts data to external database. This process should function both INIT and DELTA.
    So far so good.
    The problem is when having created for instance a new direct order and saved it. The BDoc is generated and converted to IDoc (CRMXIF_ORDER_SAVE02). In the fields OBJECT_TASK in the IDoc I get the expected 'I' for INSERT. This is what I expect.
    Now, if I make a change to the order and saves it again the generated IDoc still contains just an 'I' for INSERT in the before mentioned fields. This is not to be expected - should be an 'U' for UPDATE, but this does not happen.
    Anybody have any ideas why this happens and what is wrong?
    Best Regards,
    Daniel

    Hi,
    Thanks for your answer. I'm on CRM 5.0. The note you mentioned seems not to be related to my problem. My question is regarding "download" of data from CRM to XI through CRM middleware. When trying to do this the "change pointers" (fields OBJECT_TASK and/or TASK) are not set correctly in the IDoc's generated by middleware (everything is writtens INSERTs), which means I cannot from XI determine by the data received if I'm to perform an update/insert/delete into the database.

  • Handling User Events in sub panel vis and main vis with same Event reference Number.

    Hi All, Iam trying to work to handle events in both subpanel vi and main vi.
    I have a main program, and 2 sub vi. I will load the sub VI in 2 sub panels in main vi. Each sub pael vi has controls on it.
    I have created 2 User events for 2 sub panels vi. One user event consits of a Cluster with 2 Booleans (x & Y) and Other User Event consists of cluster of 2 unsigned 8 Numbers (a & b). These are created and registered in the main Vi and event register refnum is passed to the subpanel vi from the main panel vi.
    I have Event structure in main panel and sub panel vis.
    In one sub panel vi, When the value of one boolean(i.e. X) in the clusters changes, the Events structure in sub panel vi should perform some operation in sub panel vi only. When the value of other boolean (i.e. Y) changes it should perform some operation in main vi. I will try to Generate user event with the x value and Y value changed based on the control clicks in the sub panel vi.
    The OTher panel vi should behave in the smae way when the a & b value changes.
    The "Generate User Event" is working fine some times and sometimes there in no event triggered in the sub panel vi or main vi.
    Please let me know what is the problem Ramesh.

    There is a lot of talking, but not much understanding.  It'd be better if you posted some example VI's of what you are trying to do so that the words will make sense.
    One thing I can tell you is that you don't want to have two event structures handle the same event reference number.  You want to have two event registrations with each one going to its own event structure.

  • Servlet with dopost and main() methods

    I have pre-existing servlet code for maintenance purposes.
    It received a request by POST action from the client. This class also has main() method where class is instasiated and processed.
    Can anyone help me understand reason for having dopost and main() methods.
    TIA

    Before the days of JUnit developers would write a main method for a class as a way to test the class. Some older developers still do it. I know because I am dealing with the problem now.

    Hello Marek,
    I suppose you are not planning to do any kinds of advanced config using several VLANs and multiple SSIDs so let's just make your configuration simple and working.
    In short, you need to remove all references to VLAN 1 and to any subinterfaces possibly related to the VLAN 1. This means in particular (follow these steps in sequence):
    Remove the Dot11Radio0.1 subinterface entirely
    In the Dot11Radio0 section, remove the encryption vlan 1 mode ciphers tkip command
    In the dot11 ssid ciscowifi section, remove the vlan 1 command
    After performing these steps, make sure that the ssid ciscowifi and encryption mode commands are still present in the Dot11Radio0 configuration, and if not, reenter them.
    Best regards,
    Peter
