Initial AP rollout on 5508 HA-SKU and N+1 redundancy

Hi Board,
I have a 7.4 WLC pair - one as primary and one as secondary WLC. They are not doing AP-SSO.
I'm aware of all the design and configuration guides, but there are still some questions.
Primary WLC: 50 AP count / Secondary WLC: 500 AP count (due to HA-SKU).
Both WLCs are in one Mobility group.
A factory default AP will discover the WLCs (for example using DHCP 43). Even if the secondary WLC is not discovered in the hunting phase, the primary WLC will tell the AP about it's secondary buddy (mobility group).
The tie breaker is the WLC capacity - in this case all the APs will join the secondary WLC, because of the 500 AP count.
As soon as this happens, the 90 day "nagging" timer is started, right?
So here's the question:
- Will the 90 day timer stop if the APs are migrated to the primary WLC using primary, secondary per AP config?
- When will the 90 day timer be reseted?
How did you guys solve this issue?
One solution would be to place WLC1 and WLC2 in different mobility groups and only propagate WLC1 (primary) in the hunting phase.
In this case a brand new AP could not join the network if the primary WLC is unavailable...
Regards,
Johannes

Hi,
Here is the whole process:
One WLC has a valid AP Count license and the other WLC has a HA SKU UDI
    1. HA SKU is a new SKU with a Zero AP Count License.
   2.  The device with HA SKU becomes Standby the first time it pairs up.
   3.  AP-count license info will be pushed from Active to Standby.
   4.  On event of Active failure, HA SKU will let APs join with AP-count obtained and will start 90-day countdown. The granularity of this is in days.
    5. After 90-days, it starts nagging messages. It will not disconnect connected APs.
    6. With new WLC coming up, HA SKU at the time of paring will get the AP Count:
If the new WLC has a higher AP count than the previous, the 90-day counter is reset.
If the new WLC has a lower AP count than the previous, the 90-day counter is not reset.
In order to lower AP count after switchover, the WLC offset timer will continue and nagging messages will be displayed after time expiry.
Elapsed time and AP-count will be remembered on reboot.
The factory default HA-SKU controller should not allow any APs to join.

We put an breakpoint at function MEX_FEUSWAHL thru SE37 to get the screen control to PO, and the function return AKTH , ME21N , NBF and PT0F.
We need to set fields “PO Qty in SKU  and “Order Unit <-> SKU”  to optional maintenance.
At tab “Quantities / Weights” on PO the  fields are greyed.
We changed the screen control into the customizing to Optional , but fiels keeps greyed, and get the values from material master.
Does anyone knows  a way to change it to Optional ? or does it fields are controlled by program ?
    Best regards,

These fields are controlled by program, you can't change in the PO. you have to maintain the conversion in mateiral master and then use the appropriate order unit in the PO.

Just to recap, this is a collection of ports I have collected over time for people who needed this information when setting up the HP ePrint app so that they could view their email from within the app.  I am certain other applications also need this information.  Although lengthy, I could not find a more comprehensive place to retrieve this information.  Feel free to post additional information, faulty information, or other related topics below as this is simply a collection of data and it would be practically impossible to test all of them. The first time a new iPhone is connected to iTunes on a computer that is used to sync with another iPhone or iOS device, you are prompted to transfer the backup for the other iPhone or iOS device, or set up the iPhone as a new iPhone.
If you choose the former, the Camera Roll on the new iPhone is replaced with the Camera Roll contents included with the backup for the other iPhone or iOS device.
Syncing with iTunes alone does not touch the iPhone's Camera Roll.

  • 5508 Foreign controller and 4400 Anchor controller

    Hi,
We have a customer that have 2 5508 as primary and backup controller and a 4400 as an anchor controller.  We plan to upgrade the 5508 to 7.3.112.0 and the 4400 is already 7.0.116.0.  Will there be any issue if the anchor controller is not the same code as the foreign controller?  Do I also have to upgrade the acnhor controller to 7.0.240.0?

If you are saying that the iPod asks for the password for the network and you do not know it, what may work is to turn on iCloud keychain for the iPod and iPad., Thet may sync the password from the iPad to the iPod

  • DAGs and Edge server redundancy

We are in the process of creating an Exchange DAG and setting up redundancy between our edge servers and need to know if there will be any type of service outage as a result of any of these changes?  If so, how should we expect the process to go?
E.G., will there be a service outage after the DAG is created but not after the edge redundancy is set? etc.

    Hi sbusarow,
    For edge server:
You can deploy multiple Edge Transport servers and use multiple DNS MX resource records to load balance activity across those servers. You can also use Network Load Balancing (NLB) to provide load balancing and high availability for Edge Transport servers.
    For DAG:
    You could refer to below:

  • Initial AP registration on a 8510 WLC HA-SKU and N+1 deployment

    Hi,
We have several 8510 controllers and one of them needs to be configured as HA SKU for N+1 deployment. I am testing the scenario with two controllers right now, so I have the primary and the secondary controller configured as part of the same Mobility Group and they appear UP. Please, see the rest of the configuration below.
When I power off the Primary controller, the APs don’t register to the HA SKU controller (secondary). These two controllers are in different parts of the network but they are members of the same mobility group.
Do I need to specify the HA SKU controller in the DHCP scope for the APs? I am not sure what I am missing....
    Do you have any suggestions?
    Thank you.

    Controller--> General:

    Hi Scott,
Yes, it is N+1 HA with HA-SKU what I need to implement.
“6000 Access Points Supported” is shown in the main GUI page.
I followed the guide you mentioned to do this configuration:
1 - From the primary controller, configure the backup controller on the primary to point to the secondary controller:
(Cisco Controller) >config advanced backup-controller primary Secondary 10.9.51.252
    (Cisco Controller) >show advanced backup-controller
AP primary Backup Controller .................... Secondary 10.9.51.252
AP secondary Backup Controller ..................  0.0.0.0
2 - On the permanent AP count WLC, use the config redundancy unit secondary command to convert the controller into an HA-SKU secondary controller:
(Cisco Controller) >config redundancy unit secondary
    (Cisco Controller) >
3- On the CLI, use the show redundancy summary command to view the status of the primary and secondary controllers:
    Primary:
    (Cisco Controller) >show redundancy summary
     Redundancy Mode = SSO DISABLED
         Local State = ACTIVE
          Peer State = N/A
                Unit = Primary
             Unit ID = F8:72:EA:66:B8:A0
    Redundancy State = N/A
        Mobility MAC = F8:72:EA:66:B8:A0
    Redundancy Management IP Address................. 0.0.0.0
Peer Redundancy Management IP Address............ 0.0.0.0
    Redundancy Port IP Address....................... 0.0.0.0
Peer Redundancy Port IP Address.................. 169.254.0.0
    Secondary:
    (Cisco Controller) >show redundancy summary
     Redundancy Mode = SSO DISABLED
         Local State = ACTIVE
          Peer State = N/A
Unit = Secondary - HA SKU
             Unit ID = F8:72:EA:66:E4:40
    Redundancy State = N/A
        Mobility MAC = F8:72:EA:66:E4:40
    Redundancy Management IP Address................. 0.0.0.0
Peer Redundancy Management IP Address............ 0.0.0.0
    Redundancy Port IP Address....................... 0.0.0.0
Peer Redundancy Port IP Address.................. 169.254.0.0
As far as I can tell I have completed all the steps. In my configuration, “Redundancy Management IP Address” and “Peer Redundancy Management IP Address” are 0.0.0.0; these are the only differences I can find with the configuration in the Guide.
    Redundancy Management IP Address................. 0.0.0.0
Peer Redundancy Management IP Address............ 0.0.0.0
    Thank you.

  • 5508 HA-SKU

    Hi,
I need to determine how the HA-SKU backup controller configuration is done, how it is different from SSO-HA. I need the procedure to implement.
HA-SKU is different in that it employs two 5508's where one 5508 alone (AIR-CT5508-HA-K9) has the HA designation (can only be the backup). This allows it to receive licensing from another previously licensed 5508 (the primary). This feature was recently introduced in WLC code v7.3 or thereabouts. Appreciate your comments.
    Thanks.

all you need is confiugre the redancncy mgmt ip and connect the RP ports back to back or from L2 switch. After that you set it as secondary WLC and enable sso on both WLC. The 2 wlc will reboot, when the secondary wlc with HA-SKU find the active one, it will copy the configuration and will be in standby mode once it is up.
    It is pretty simple.

Others I have setup have been fine.

Some additional information is the unit is running version 7.3.101.0 and there appears to be an error as it scrolls through the boot which talks about not accepting the EULA (I wasn't prompted to accept anything in the initial startup questions)
