Initialize array vs array constant

  • How to declare and initialize a STRING ARRAY (assign strings to array elements)

    How to declare and initialize a STRING ARRAY (assign desired strings to elements of an array, for example "abc", "def", "ghi", "jkl", etc.) in LabVIEW? I saw a "string array" block in help, but could not find it in the function palette. Does a spreadsheet string have to be in a file (or can it be in a string constant block)? Thank you.

    Hi,
    you can do it in several ways:
    1. Direct way: Create string array control on front panel and type strings in its elements
    2. Programmatically 1: Create string array indicator (or local variable of control), right click on it in block diagram, select "Create constant" from drop down menu. The array constant will appear. Now type values in this constant's strings
    3. Programmatically 1: Use "Build array", "Replace array subset", "Insert into array" or "Initialize array" functions from "Functions->Array" palette.
    And of course you can combine all of these methods.
    Good luck.

    Thanks for the answer but the problem is the type of object of method and how from pl/sql is posiblle to call.
    The method waiting a ArrayofAlicIva, but if i define this object is not posible to set the object inside the array because the wsdl not have this functions.
    I need to define array of objects but the object is inside is the diferent type of array.
    If i Define the array of object correct to object inside, the method expect that the other array type.
    Is a Deadlock ??
    The solution in Java is Simple
    AlicIva[] alicIva = new AlicIva[1];
    alicIva[0]= new AlicIva();
    alicIva[0].setId(Short.parseShort(1));
    fedr[0].setIva(alicIva);
    this is the method imported in java class to form
    -- Method: setIva (LArrayOfAlicIva;)V
    PROCEDURE setIva(
    obj ORA_JAVA.JOBJECT,
    a0 ORA_JAVA.JOBJECT) IS
    BEGIN
    args := JNI.CREATE_ARG_LIST(1);
    JNI.ADD_OBJECT_ARG(args, a0, 'ArrayOfAlicIva');
    JNI.CALL_VOID_METHOD(FALSE, obj, 'FECAEDetRequest', 'setIva', '(LArrayOfAlicIva;)V', args);

  • Is it possible to/how can I create an array of arrays in Labview 6i?

    I am trying to create a data structure based on a tree where each limb is an array of arrays and each of those arrays is an array of arrays...etc. My ultimate purpose of this is for multidimensional (infinite) data saving/data recovery.

    I suspect it won't work for your intended application, but here is an answer to your question:
    You can't create an array of arrays, because that would be the same as increasing the number of dimensions of the array. However, you can store an array in a cluster, then have an array of clusters with arrays in them. So, indirectly it is possible. This gives you the possibility of each array being a different size.

  • A structure with mutiple data types or array of array

    I want to read some soft of a table from a text file and want to store in a structure (not in database) for future use. I want the structure to have rows and columns when I need to reach. COULD ANYONE LET ME KNOW THE WORK AROUND OTHER THAN THE ABOVE SOLUTION LIKE ADDING THE OWNER SCHEMA NAME WITH THE USER DEFINED COLLECTION TYPE.

    There couold be two reasons:
    1) it depends how u have defined type. if ISSUESECTION_LIST is defined in type SCHEMA_OWNER, then you have to call this ways only 'SCHEMA_OWNER_NAME.ISSUESECTION_LIST'
    2) You might have defined using schema_owner_name like scott.<TYPE_NAME>. if its so, then drop it and again define type without using schema owner.
    For detail help post your type declaration.

  • Filter an array of arrays based on some criteria

    Hi Folks:
    Is there a way to filter an array of arrays based on some criteria?

    AB11     AB11-5            2672324          bath scaleI want to filter the above array and get all records having PARTDESC beginning with the letters "bath" into another array of arrays, resultArr[][] //I want to get the result in this one.
    How could this be done?
    Please help.
    Thank you for your time.

    Say I have the below set of records in an array of arrays. testArr[][]
    Why array of arrays? Why not an array of objects of a class say 'Part'?
    class Part{
         String id;
         String dtlnum;
         String partnum;
         String partdesc;
         // getters and setters
    }As far as filtering is concerned, regex match would be very easy...
    Part[] parts;
    Part[] filtered;
    //initiallize parts
    void filter(String keyword){
         ArrayList<Part> list=new ArrayList<Part>();
         for(Part p:parts){
             if(p.getPartdesc().matches(keyword+".*"))list.add(p);
         filtered=list.toArray();
    // call filter function to filter
    filter("bath");Thanks!

I am trying to separate the data so that each time the method is called, each piece of the data (6 total) is put into an array list. Then that array list is put into an array list of arrays. I am sorry if I have not made this clear, I will try again. I want an array of arrays, and the interior arrays will contain 6 pieces of information each from the string that is given to the method, and each separated by commas.
    Any help is much appreciated. I am also curious how I can accesses one piece of the data at a time, this is what I am thinking for this:

    Thank you very much.

I was under the impression that the biggest syntax difference between an array(fixed number of items) and an ArrayList(unfixed number of items) was the use of the [] and () That's one of many syntactical differences, yes, but the main difference is not in the syntax. arrays are part of the Java language, have special handling because of that, and are faster and smaller than ArrayLists. ArrayList is part of the API, and didn't exist until Java 1.2 (about 5-6 years into Java's life, I think), and is built on top of an array.
    UnsupportedOperationException:
    null (in java.util.AbstractList)I have no idea what is causing this, I can only assume that I am doing something wrong...It looks like you're tyring to add null to an ArrayList and it doesn't like it. I thought ArrayList accepted null elements, but I could be wrong. Paste in the exact line that's causing it, and any declarations necessary to clarify any variables used on that line.

  • Pushing array into array

    lets say I have
    var myAr:Array = new Array(value, value2, value3);
    var holdAr:Array = new Array();
    holdAr.push(myAr);
    when I trace out holdAr: value, value2, value3
    however, if I trace out holdAr[0], I get the same as tracing
    holdAr.... how can I push an array into a new array and keep the
    indexes?

    You are only adding one element to the array holdAr. That
    element is an array with three indices. I think you need to add the
    elements one at a time to get what you're looking for.

  • Initialize array from a constant string

    I generated the coefficients for a FIR filter in Mathscript (250 taps).  I dumped the values to a data file and then "load"ed them into a Mathscript box inside my vi.
    This worked well until I created an executable version of my program (no Mathscript) where my coefficient vectors now come up Null.
    My idea is to text copy the coefficients into a string constant in my vi, and then initialize my array as part of my start-up routines.
    I was wondering if anyone has done this?  Is such a routine available anywhere?
    Thanks,
    Tom J

    How are you building the path the file that you are reading?
    When you build an executable, the path of the VIs it contains changes.
    In development environment, path to VI = c:\project\Top Level.vi
    In executable environment, path to VI = c:\project\Executable.exe\Top Level.vi
    So if the file you are reading is in the same directory as the executable, and you are building a path relative to that, you need to strip one more path level for the executable.
    The above image shows one way to do determine programmatically if you are in the development or executable environment and how to strip the path an extra time for the RTE.
    If this is not the problem, kindly ignore everything I just rambled on about.

    Using the Abort button to stop your VI is like using a tree to stop your car. It works, but there may be consequences.

  • Multiply 3D array elements by constant

    I consider myself a beginner at LabVIEW.  With that said, I have a 3D array (x,y,z) where x and y both range from 0-400 and z ranges from 0-13.  I want to multiply all of the x's and y's under each z, by a different constant.  For example, x=0-400, y=0-400 and z=0, I want to multiply both x and y by 0.4.  Then for x=0-400, y=0-400 and z=1 I want to multiply x and y by 0.43 (random cosntant), and so on.
    How can I do this?
    Thanks in advance!

    I actually asked the wrong question.  If this thread needs to be deleted and I need to start another one, just let me know.
    This is what I'm trying to do.  I have a 3D array (x,y,z) where x and y are pixel locations of an image (rows and columns ranging from 0-400) and z is wavelength (ranging from 0-13).  For each combination of x,y and z there is a value.  I want to hold z constant at 0 (z=0) and multiply every value at every pixel location by a constant.
    For example x=0-400, y=0-400 and z=0.  I want to multiply the value at every combination of x and y by a constant while holding z at 0. Then move onto z=1 and multiply every combination of x and y by a different constant.
    I attached an image of an indicator from the 3D array below.  The three white boxes are the x y and z and the fourth grey box is the value I want to change for each combination of x and y for z=0-13.

  • Is it possible to multiply the content of an array by a constant numeric.

    Hi,
    I am using Universal library to read a voltage from a DAQ device, and it seems the reading function is putting it into an 1-D array then into a graph.
    I need to get this voltage and multiply by a number and could not do that as it is in array format.
    How would I be able to multiply the array content by a constant numeric?
    Thanks

    Hi,
    Thanks for the reply, did not work, I have attached an image illustrating it.
