Initiating a quicker checkpoint
Hi,
during peak hour, when user complains about they are getting slow response, we have checked alert log and found messages like "checkpoint not completed", when i query v$log, we always find status ACTIVE for all the redo log group Except the current redo log group.
My redo log group size was 50mb initially, due to the issue i increase the redo log group to 200mb.But after increasing the redo log group, still the problem persist. May be to some point it is normal to show ACTIVE status based on workload. But as we increased the size much bigger than than the old one, the things should be much better.
We are not using FAST_START_MTTR_TARGET, we use log_checkpoint_timeout to control checkpoint which value is set to 1800. Now i have decided to decrease the size to 300 so that checkpoint initiate more quickly. And i think the performance issue related with the redo log groups. Because unless checkpoint is not complete for a redo log group/or it render as inactive, the group can't reuse.
Am i right?? Anyone with better idea would be very helpful...
Hi ,
First of all , check your alert logfile and notice how often your redo log files switches . The ideal time between the two redolog file switches is 20-30 min . So either increase the size of the redologs file or increase the number of redolog files .
Check the below link....

On my PC, I cannot run itunes, I keep getting this error message" Quick Time failed to initialized (error02096) Quick time is required to run please unistall itunes then install itunes again, I have done this three times and I keep getting the same error message. I have had itunes for years, but up until 2 months ago the quick time will not initialize to run it.
Try using the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility and delete the iTunes installer. Then try installing iTunes again

Remove alter system checkpoint from Backup script
We are seeing high response time when we run alter system checkpoint and when we run "BEGIN BACKUP". Can we remove that from the script currently it's something like:
alter system checkpoint
alter system archive current
begin backup
Also would suspend/resume help if we have it after "begin backup" in response time?
Edited by: user628400 on Mar 26, 2009 5:06 PMHi;
It says;
"SQL-induced checkpoints are heavyweight. This means that Oracle records the checkpoint in a control file shared by all the redo threads. Oracle also updates the datafile headers. SQL-induced checkpoints move the checkpoint position to the point that corresponded to the end of the log when the statement was initiated. These checkpoints can adversely affect performance, because the additional writes to the datafiles increase system overhead."
According to my experiences, manually checkpointing has never been a quick operation.

NSS 324 iSCSI ready status, cannot connect using MS iSCSI Initiator
I have an NSS 324 (firmware: 1.0.4) which has been running a Microsoft iSCSI target without any problems for months, until the last 7 days. I'm now to the point where I cannot access the iSCSI target at all when I try and connect using the iSCSI Initiator, the Quick Connect window comes up with "Target Error" in the bottom of the window.
Attached are screencaps of the three (3) tabs from the 'Disk Management, iSCSI' section on the NSS 324 management portal.

I've also attached screencaps of the six (6) tabs from the iSCSI Initiator Object.

Thank you for any help you may be able to offer. I have a ton of miscellaneous files on this iSCSI target and I'd hate to try and recreate all of it again.Thank you very much for the reply.
The IP address of the NSS324 is still 192.168.0.133

Laptop has i5 processor, 4megs of DDR2 memory, windows 7 . Charter Communications internet signal 25 mbps. Firefox opens easily. Google search response is quick. Opening a site is another issue. Home pages initially open quickly, but Firefox lags in loading all the elements of page content and frequently will not respond to the "back" button" when navigating a site, especially on CBS sports Fantasy Football site. On these occasions, Firefox displays notation "Firefox can not locate site/file server" or "Firefox is not responding". When this occurs, a translucent white haze is displayed over the site graphic and Firefox locks up.s. Only option is to exit Firefox, frequently having to force the program to close.
If you have the same symptoms after restoring the hard disk to its original factory-new software and replacing the BIOS, that leaves only malfunctioning hardware as the culprit.
What you report is consistent with a failing hard drive. The disk keeps accessing over and over in attempt to successfully read or write. It appears slow as a result.

Can someone check my workflow for video editing?
I have a question about my workflow with my Adobe Products. I'm hoping someone can check my workflow.
I feel like I understand most of this process but I have a few questions listed below.
If someone could please read and tell me where I might be able to speed up my workflow I would be appreciative.
Any help is appreciated!!!!!!!!!
Questions-
• Why do my exports take so long with Premiere and Media Encoder?
• Why does Premier take anywhere from 5-10 minutes to fully load my projects?
• Why does Premier take so long to load my previously rendered preview files?
• Are my settings OK with Media Encoder?
• Why can't I get Media Encoder to export higher than a resolution of 786x524 for MP4?
Computer Specs:
MacPro, 2.8 Quad Core, 10GB RAM, ATI Radeaon HD 5770 1024MB, Mac OSX Mavericks 10.9.5
Software: Using Adobe CS 6 software,
A typical project for me:
Resolution 1000 x 563px, 10 minutes long, to be played/viewed on the Web.
My workflow and settings in more detail:
• I usually start in After Effects then move the AE comps into Premiere and edit with many other clips, then export to ProRes, finally I compress that ProRes file (Adobe Media Encoder) to a variety of necessary formats.
I start with After Effects and create about 20 or 30 projects, each is anywhere from 5 seconds to 30 seconds long.
I start a new Premier Project (Preview Files set to QT, H.264, 1000x563px) and import the AE comps directly into Premiere.Premiere has to render my AE comps but I like the flexibility of being able to "go-back" and alter my AE file, it auto updates in Premiere
I edit all my clips in Premiere, my entire timeline is rendered and has the Green Line.Anytime I close my project and reopen it. Premiere takes about 5-10 minutes to load the project. Premiere initially opens quickly but takes a long time to link up all the rendered preview files. This seems way too long
Upon finalizing my project in Premiere I export out to ProRes 422.
Settings For this is: Export Video, Same Resolution as project, Quality 100%, 30fps, Progressive, Square Pix, 24bit, Use Max Render Quality, Use Frame Blending.
For my 10 minute animation this takes about 45 minutes. I feel like that's OK. My AE clips can be a bit heavy with stills, particles, effete and etc
This results in about a 11GB ProRes file. Does that sound right?
I now have a fantastic ProRes copy of my hard earned work.... but I need to encode it to get it on the web, to clients, to friends, to the Universe.
I import this file into Adobe Media Encoder. I need to get this into 3 different formats, .H264, FLV and .MP4. This processes usually take about 12 hrs for me. Seems too long.
MP4 settings: Multiplexer MP4/ Standard, Dimensions I can't get them above 786x524 this is frustrating, Level: Advanced Level 5, VBR 1pass 1,500
FLV Settings: Format FLV, Dimensions 1000x563, VBR 2 pass, Bitrate 1,200, default target rates and Key Frame
h.264 settings: Codec H.264, Dimensions 1000x563, 30fps, Progressive, Square Pix, Optimized Stills, Bit Rate 1,500
That's about it.You're missing the JSTL JAR's in the classpath.

MSI N560GTX-Ti Twin Frozr II Golden Edition GeForce GTX 560 Ti (Fermi)
I just got this card in the mail about two days ago. Yesterday I played all day with no problems, it was fantastic. Awesome card.
But...
I played tonight and about a hour into playing I started experiencing Artifacts all over the screen. CSS has white squares all over the screen.
Bad Company is unplayable since it hits me with a white screen or worse crashes my computer. Assassins Creed has really bad Artafacting.
Tho Portal 2 runs awesome (Bad ass game, not surprised. lol)
I thought my card was overheating, So initially I quickly checked the temp and it was running at a cool 46 degrees. So it should be fine? (Max heating before card explodes was 90?)
I played with in game settings with no avail.
I then thought perhaps the drivers were perhaps bad so I reinstalled them, still no luck so I went and tried older drivers still no dice.
I then reduced the clock settings MSI shipped the card with to stock settings. Still no luck.
I even under clocked the sucker and yes... Still the artifacts appeared.
I thought perhaps its not plugged in right or seated right. Nope everything seemed in place and snug.
I plugged in my old Nividia 8800gts and it worked just fine. (Awesome card, lasted me all these years)
I searched for about two hours looking for a fix, but a lot of them talk about RMAs.
So Im thinking this card might be busted, but I really don't want to RMA if I don't have to.
Did I over look a simple fix , is it busted , do I have to RMA?
Any help would be awesome... Awesome to the max!Okay did some research and found out my power supply is multi-railed with the highest output of 12v19a.
According to the manual for this graphics card it needs at least 12v30a.
That's really disappointing since I just bought this power supply about a month ago. It was supposed to
be part of my new computer I built for The World of Tomorrow!
Since in most of my games it run just fine, in fact really well. Video and web interfaces still work well. Only when doing heavy graphics
dose my card start freaking the math out. (excuse my language.)
Using educated guessing I learned in Art School Im going to put my chips on the Power Supply being my problem.
Im either going to ask a friend with a beef cake of a Power Supply for testing or Im just going to roll the dice and buy a new one.
Whatever feels less awkward when I get up tomorrow morning.
In any case I will post again in about two to five business days if all things go a rye or shiny. I like shiny. -
D810 images not displaying properly in preview app
So when I open an image like something I took from Photo Booth from Finder in Preview app, it loads fine. However, when I open a high res image JPG from my Nikon D810, the image loads initially, then quickly blanks out to all white. If I use the magnifier tool, it does show me magnified portions of the image, but the whole image won't show. Is there a maximum size limitation with preview app?
BTW, I don't think this repro'd before I updated to 10.10.3 (was 10.10.2). Is this an issue with Apple decommissioning iPhoto? You could try some of these options here.

Hi,
I am newbie in goldengate stuff. So I would appreciate any help. I want to build active-active GG on my personal laptop for practice purposes. I have Windows 8 and downloaded GG for 11g. It worked when I tried to perform initial load with generating files to replicat. But it didnt work when I tried to create just simple extract and pump on source and replicat on target. Seems like extract doesnt want to send information from table to the trail file.
I thought that maybe problem is in manager's port. In documentation says that preferable port for manager should be 7809. But I have two databases on one laptop so I cant use 7809 twice. That's why for source I chose port 1000 and for target - 1001.
Can you help, please? Where is problem?
Thank you.
Best regards,
VikHi Parth272025,
sorry I was a little bit unclear. Let me explain. I have a couple ideas which I would like to test before bringing to any our environments. I have two databases 11.2.0.1, which are running on Windows 8 (64 bit) platform.
First of all I tried to perform initial load. I chose "File to replicat" method. Data were sent to the files and successfully applied on the target database.
Then I tried to start building replication configuration. And on the first step I noticed that data is not replicated. I didn't do nothing complicated, just included first table into the extract, pump and replicat parameter files.
That's a problem. I dont see any specific messages in the ggserr.log. And according to the report file data was not extracted. I dont understand why.
My extract file:
extract gge
userid golden,password check
discardfile C:\app\Viktor\kosta\dirrpt\ge.dsc, purge
exttrail C:\app\Viktor\kosta\dirdat\ge
table GGTEST.ACCOUNT;
My pump file:
extract ggp
userid golden,password check
PASSTHRU
RMTHOST localhost, MGRPORT 7810, COMPRESS
RMTTRAIL C:\app\Viktor\tata\dirdat\gr
table GGTEST.ACCOUNT;
My replicat file:
REPLICAT gr
HANDLECOLLISIONS
userid golden,password check
ASSUMETARGETDEFS
map GGTEST.ACCOUNT , target GGREP.ACCOUNT;
Part of the extract report:

Best regards,
Vik -
Hello,
We have recently implemented a new Cisco ASA 5512-X firewall replacing and old Cisco ASA 5505 Firewall.
We have a number of issues which we are encountering and have so far been unable to rectify. The config was copied visually across to the new firewall from the old so the majority of the config matches the old firewall. I have attached the config.
1. VOIP Phones not conencting to ntp uk.pool.ntp.org - Our VOIP network is on its own vlan inside the network. The phones were able to conenct to the ntp externally before the new firewall was inplace. I have tested numerous access rules but with no luck.
2. VPN - We have setup a site to site VPN between the new Firewall and a SonicWall. The SonicWALL is showing the following errors from our firewall

3. Firewall rules for outside coming in do not allow pointing to the NAT object of a device we have to use the internal network object instead.
Any help would be much appreciated.
Many Thanks
JamesNo, there is no web filtering feature build in to ASA5512-X, however you can configure ASA5512-X to send web traffic towards cloud based (Cisco ScanSafe) web filtering solution. You would need to purchase ScanSafe user base license.

Golden Gate Error while replicating 2 oracle databases, reason RAC
Dear All,
My RAC database and the standby database is 11gR2 on Linux.
I was configuring simple replication between RAC and standby database using Golden Gate.
When I start the extract process it does not start on the source database that is RAC, I am configuring golden gate on one node of the RAC.
Here is what I get in my log file:

Edited by: user2855889 on Feb 1, 2011 1:33 AMThis is a startup bug error where certain initial log positions are not resolved at initialization.
This should happen only if the first log switching didn't occur after the db was created and before extract was started
It is bug (11839680).
It is resolved by performing a database log switch.
Other causes and solutions:
If some of the nodes in RAC are not active, OGG will hit this error when trying to find the redo logs for those inactive nodes.
The solution in this case is to exclude those inactive nodes from GG, e.g. THREADOPTIONS PROCESSTHREADS SELECT 1 -
Hi,
I have GG 11.1.1.0.0 on oracle 11gR2/ASM with active-active configuration. The extract process is getting abendent. It seems GG is not able to connect to ASM instance. Below is the extract report.

Thanks and regards...Hi,
To ensure that the Oracle GoldenGate Extract process can connect to an ASM instance, do the following.
a. List the ASM instance in the tnsnames.ora file. The recommended method for connecting to an ASM instance when Oracle GoldenGate is running on the database host machine is to use a bequeath (BEQ) protocol.
NOTE: A BEQ connection does not work when using a remote Extract configuration. In that case, configure TNSNAMES with the TCP/IP protocol.
b. If using the TCP/IP protocol, verify that the Oracle listener is listening for new connections to the ASM instance.
The listener.ora file must contain an entry similar to the following.
SID_LIST_LISTENER_ASM =
(SID_LIST =
(SID_DESC =
(GLOBAL_DBNAME = ASM)
(ORACLE_HOME = /u01/app/grid)
(SID_NAME = +ASM1)
NOTE: The BEQ protocol does not require a listener.
If Oracle 10g Automatic Storage Management (ASM) is in use, Oracle GoldenGate requires a user for the Extract process to access the ASM instance. Oracle GoldenGate does not support using operating-system authentication for the ASM user. You can use SYS user or any user with SYSDBA privileges in the ASM instance.
ASM password configuration
1 To view how the current ASM password file is configured, log on to the ASM instance and issue the following command in SQL*Plus:
SQL> SELECT name, value FROM v$parameter WHERE name = 'remote_login_passwordfile';
Please use the TRANLOGOPTIONS parameter with the ASMUSER and ASMPASSWORD options for the ASM user.
Example:TRANLOGOPTIONS ASMUSER sys@+ASM1, ASMPASSWORD asm321
Thanks & Regards
