Injest XML (JAXB) with Apache CXF on Weblogic 9.2.3

I have tried all of the suggestions I can find out there, but still can not get Weblogic and CXF to play along when injesting XML.
CXF is deployed and working in production.
Now that I want add a method to XML results, I declared with JAX-RS like this:
@POST
@Consumes( "application/xml")
@Path( "{order_id}/" + ANALYSE_PARAM )
public void reportResult( @PathParam( "order_id") int orderId, AnalyseResults analyseResults ) {
// NOTE: AnalyseResults is a JAXB object which we've created (i.e. mappings to Java provided)
However, when this method is invoked, I get this:
, I get this:

I've done all the reading out there and taken all the suggestions:
- the woodstox and stax2 JARs are on my classpath
- the weblogic-application.xml file has been modified to include (a number of varieties have been tried):
<prefer-application-packages>
          <package-name>javax.jws.*</package-name>
          <package-name>javax.xml.*</package-name>
          <package-name>org.apache.*</package-name>
</prefer-application-packages>
I understand the root of the issue: the System properties / JAR files which are first read by Weblogic force the loading of the weblogic.xml.stax.XMLStreamInputFactory as "the way" to create StAX InputFactories.
But ... that Factory (for whatever reason) is incompatible with the way that CXF invokes it.
So ... is there ANY way to get WebLogic to allow CXF to use an alternate parser?

A support ticket (SR 3-4866617511) with Oracle has confirmed that the Weblogic StAX parser has a defect. A patch is available for WLS 10mp2 (and possibly for 9.2.4).
However, it is also possible to work around with a different StAX implementation.
Our choice was Woodstox and after putting the JARs (Woodstox and StaX2 mentioned below plus the xml-apis.jar and a xerces implementation JAR) in WEB-INF/lib and removing the changes to weblogic-application.xml (below), the magic was changing WEB-INF/weblogic.xml file (as described in http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E13222_01/wls/docs92/programming/classloading.html )to include:
<container-descriptor>
<servlet-reload-check-secs>-1</servlet-reload-check-secs>
<prefer-web-inf-classes>true</prefer-web-inf-classes>
</container-descriptor>
Why does this work?
By using the "prefer-web-inf-classes" node, the WL Classloader looks first in the JAR files of the Web Application (rather than it's own classes). In this case it finds the META-INF/services/javax.xml.stream.XMLInputFactory from the Woodstox JAR (rather than the one from weblogic.jar). Note how this is not just about loading classes from the WEB-INF/lib JARs first ... it also affects how Weblogic interacts with the JAR Service Provider Interface (SPI ... http://docs.oracle.com/javase/tutorial/sound/SPI-intro.html).
However, the XercesImpl.jar is becomes necessary because when running without it, the following error occurs:
javax.xml.datatype.FactoryFinder:Using context class loader: weblogic.utils.classloaders.ChangeAwareClassLoader@1a3c1d6 finder: weblogic.utils.classloaders.CodeGenClassFinder@488280 annotation: appsdirtbiis_dir@btb-ws/ic
javax.xml.datatype.FactoryFinder:found null in $java.home/jaxp.properties
javax.xml.datatype.FactoryFinder:loaded from fallback value: org.apache.xerces.jaxp.datatype.DatatypeFactoryImpl
<Nov 8, 2011 11:58:41 AM EST> <Error> <HTTP> <BEA-101017> <[weblogic.servlet.internal.WebAppServletContext@e02837 - appName: '_appsdir_tbiis_dir', name: '/btb-ws/ic', context-path: '/btb-ws/ic'] Root cause of ServletException.
java.lang.Error: javax.xml.datatype.DatatypeConfigurationException: Provider org.apache.xerces.jaxp.datatype.DatatypeFactoryImpl not found
Truncated. see log file for complete stacktrace
>
THAT issue is due to the fact that the javaee-5.0.5-api.jar's implementation of javax.xml.datatype.DatatypeFactory provides org.apache.xerces.jaxp.datatype.DatatypeFactoryImpl (rather than com.sun.org.apache.xerces.internal.jaxp.datatype.DatatypeFactoryImpl which is the fallback for the JDK 1.5 implementation that ships with WL 9.2) as the fallback value.
However, this mechanism is only used because none of the JARs (either in my app or in the standard WL distro) contain an file named "META-INF/services/java.xml.datatype.DatatypeFactory" which points to an existing Xerces implementation.
The xml-apis.jar was necessary because of unit test I was running on the package. YMMV with the xml-apis.jar.

  • Web services with Apache CXF

    :confused; Has anyone worked with apache CXF as a backend web

    I can access to the jsp of the server with the url of apach , but i cannot use jmx throught apache. I can use jmx with the server if I don't use apache, but i need apache for the next step of the project.
    please, help me !

    I think the plug-in is intended for serves static pages, and another part of the document like MIME types.
    I assume you are using the http protocol in your client to establish a jmx connection. Try enabling HTTP tunneling in weblogic server.
    Can you post the code used to establish connetion?

  • Help with Apache plugin for WebLogic on HP-UX

    Hi,
    I am trying to get Weblogic 5.1(w/sp8) on HP-UX 11 talking to Apache 1.3.19.21(port
    8080) also on HP-UX 11 ( both on same box ). I have WebLogic listening on port
    9001, and I followed the instructions to configure apache and weblogic. However
    when I do http://mymachine:8080/weblogic/portal/hello.jsp. I get unable to find
    page.
    weblogic is installed in /weblogic. The hello.jsp is located in /weblogic/myserver/public_html/portal/hello.jsp.
    Apache is installed in /opt/apache.
    The Apache httpd.conf file contains the following:
    <Location /weblogic>
    SetHandler weblogic-handler
    PathTrim /weblogic
    WebLogicHost localhost
    WebLogicPort 9001
    </Location>
    What am I missing ? The error_log for Apache shows the following:
    [Mon Nov 12 11:21:09 2001] [warn] Loaded DSO libexec/mod_wl.so uses plain Apache
    1.3 API, this module might crash under EAPI! (please recompile it with -DEAPI)
    [Mon Nov 12 11:21:10 2001] [notice] Apache/1.3.19 (Unix) PHP/4.0.4pl1 configured

    [Mon Nov 12 11:21:32 2001] [notice] child pid 13248 exit signal Segmentation fau
    lt (11)

    Well... there is a warning in the log file saying that it might crash - and then
    it crashes. Check that you are running a supported platform, if you are, contact
    BEA Support.
    I would discourage the use of forwarding to 'localhost'.

  • Web Services with Apache Axis plugin Weblogic

    Hi,
    I am a newbie to Web Services & Apache Axis. I have plugged in Apache Axis with
    Weblogic 6.1. I wanted to know whether an architecture of the following is possible.
    Web Services published on Apache Axis wrapped on SessionBeans on Weblogic 6.1.
    Also can I get some docs, samples that can help me.
    Any help is appreciated.
    Meghna

    Hi Meghna,
    hmmm...if you are going to start off with webservices, why not go with
    the very best available: WLS 8.1 has:
    - much better schema coverage,
    - rpc, doc-literal and doc-literal-wrapped style
    - async client
    - jms transport
    - security and RM
    - many new ant tasks
    See the full list: http://edocs.bea.com/wls/docs81/webservices.html
    All the features...plus outstanding performance and our award winning
    support.

    I am trying to use jaxb with Weblogic 6.1. I kept both the jaxb jar file in weblogic

    I will appreciate if someone in this newsgroup comments or suugest some solution.

    following error, when I am trying to use jaxb
    java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: javax/xml/bind/MarshallableRootElement
    I tried other options also like coping both jar file in jre/ext dir
    but then I got security error.
    I will appreciate if someone in this newsgroup comments or suugest
    some solution. Put the jaxb jar file in in your webapp's WEB-INF/lib directory and it
    should work fine.

  • Using Resin and Weblogic with Apache

    Hi,
    Does anybody know if i can use Weblogic to serve JSP and Resin to
    serve some servlets within Apache?
    Let me explain the case:
    We are testing to setup Weblogic with Apache as the webserver.
    Weblogic will be used to serve the JSP pages so i configured the
    httpd.conf as follows:
    <IfModule mod_weblogic.c>
    MatchExpression *.jsp
    WebLogicHost localhost
    WebLogicPort [port]
    </IfModule>
    This works fine and i can serve the jsp-pages without any problems.
    Since we work with thirdparty software we need to use Resin too. This
    is not much trouble to implement in Apache and i can make sure that
    some servlets are handled by caucho instead of Weblogic:
    <Location /servlet/Inventory>
    SetHandler caucho-request
    </Location>
    The above request works fine too!
    However i have to load the resin.conf file for full use of Resin in
    Apache. This setting however implicates that JSP pages aren't served
    by Weblogic anymore but are sent to Resin also. Even with the
    MatchExpression setting in httpd.conf, Apache still thinks JSP needs
    to be sent to Resin instead of Weblogic.
    Is there some way i can make sure that the JSP pages are served by
    Weblogic and not by Resin???
    Thanx in advance

    Hi all,
    Well, i figured it all out and if anyone would like to give it a try
    to, just do the following.
    The mod_caucho.so file was compiled with the option to handle .jsp
    files. I hashed out the following line in
    /src/c/plugin/common/config.c:
    cse_add_locatio ..... jsp etc.
    And then i configure the mod_caucho.so with:
    ./configure --with-apxs=/apps/apache/bin/apxs
    Now i have a perfect mod_caucho.so file which does not handle .jsp.
    All calls with .jsp are processed by weblogic, just as i wanted!
    Have fun with it (i shall :-)

    I got it to work on both apache and Sun One
    the problem was i was not using 1 way SSL certificate as my truststore on client side. Let me write a detailed note so that it can be helpful for others who see this
    So Client-----https( 1 way)------Apache/SunOne--->https-----Weblogic
    1. On Weblogic i just added custom keystore and custom trusttore as given in weblogic
    2. I changed SunOne (i will give for SunOne and apache is similar) obj.conf to look like this
    # Use only forward slashes in pathnames--backslashes can cause
    # problems. See the documentation for more information.
    <Object name="default">
    AuthTrans fn="match-browser" browser="*MSIE*" ssl-unclean-shutdown="true"

    </Object>
    NOTE:
    1. i changed entire thing to go to our weblogic but you can change it to your required path by changing ppath
    2. I had to comment NameTrans from adding paths to docs etc as for the same reason as weblogic needed to handle it rather than sun one.
    3. I changed Sunone to use SSL certificate from Verisign (14 days) by going through the Admin Server of SunOne and clicking manage and then going through Security tab and filling the request. Then installed the certificate on the SunOne managed https-machine server. Then went to preferences and added security enabled ports. Make sure you click enabled on security and certificate host optional.
    4. I changed my Java client to use same truststore as SunOne bby doing an import.
    For this i copied the certificate received from Verisign to file as .pem and used weblogic utils.pem2der to convert it to derfile and then imported the der file using java keytool to cacerts of jdk.
    5. My Java code looked like this using Sun's SSL implementation
    System.setProperty("java.protocol.handler.pkgs", "com.sun.net.ssl.internal.www.protocol");
              //set provider
              java.security.Provider provider = (java.security.Provider)Class.forName("com.sun.net.ssl.internal.ssl.Provider").newInstance();
              java.security.Security.addProvider(provider);
              //set verifier
              com.sun.net.ssl.HostnameVerifier hv = new DHIHostNameVerifier();
              com.sun.net.ssl.HttpsURLConnection.setDefaultHostnameVerifier( hv );
              System.setProperty("javax.net.ssl.trustStore", "C:/cvsdir/concordebranch/cacerts");
              //System.setProperty("javax.net.ssl.trustStore", "C:/Program Files/Java/j2re1.4.2_10/lib/security/cacerts");
              //lets create a url
         URL url = new URL("https://ukamath:443/");
              URLConnection urlCon = url.openConnection();
    If you have questions forward me an email and i can guide you. I am doing it as i struggled a lot because of it for first time.
    Thanks

    After research by Oracle Support it actually turns out that this problem was a combination of factors:
    1) some clients were effectively using an invalid certificate so it is corrrect they got an error and everything worked fine when they started using the right certificate
    2) it does, however, turn out that, in the case of an error the error handling has been obfuscated in WLS 10.3.6 as compared to WLS 10.3.4 which gives a more descriptive error stating the nature of the problem (missing certificate, invalid certificate, unknown user, ...). Apparently this was deemed a security issue and has thus been replaced by a generic "internal server error". It is however possible to re-activate this older behaviour using a couple of JAVA_OPTS that you pass during server startup:
    -Dweblogic.wsee.security.debug=true -Dweblogic.wsee.security.verbose=true
    The above reintroduced the behaviour we had in WLS 10.3.4 and thus solves our problem!

  • Setup issues: Apache plugin for Weblogic

    Hi,
    I've spent couple of days without success trying to configure apache plugin for weblogic. I've configured in accordance with bea documentation and it works fine in windows environment but fails in Solaris 9.
    Plugin log file says it's processed the request successfully but I see error message in browser saying it can't find the jsp file. It works fine if I access the weblogic box directly without going through apache.
    I'm using Weblogic 8.1 SP2, single server.
    Please find below the messages appear in browser, plugin logs, and apache version.
    Thanks in advance for your help.

    =================Plugin Logs End================

    Yes it is IBM Http Server, but it works fine from Windows accessing the same weblogic server I'm trying to connect from Solaris.
    I see 500 error in the apache access log file.
    I've also tried with by setting "MaxRequestsPerChild" to 0 in the apache config file but no good.
    Please find below httpd.conf file content.
    ==============httpd.conf===============
    ServerName eus0000168.eu.verio.net
    # Based upon the NCSA server configuration files originally by Rob McCool.
    # This is the main Apache server configuration file. It contains the
    # configuration directives that give the server its instructions.
    # See <URL:http://httpd.apache.org/docs-2.0/> for detailed information about
    # the directives.
    # Do NOT simply read the instructions in here without understanding
    # what they do. They're here only as hints or reminders. If you are unsure
    # consult the online docs. You have been warned.
    # The configuration directives are grouped into three basic sections:
    # 1. Directives that control the operation of the Apache server process as a
    # whole (the 'global environment').
    # 2. Directives that define the parameters of the 'main' or 'default' server,
    # which responds to requests that aren't handled by a virtual host.
    # These directives also provide default values for the settings
    # of all virtual hosts.
    # 3. Settings for virtual hosts, which allow Web requests to be sent to
    # different IP addresses or hostnames and have them handled by the
    # same Apache server process.
    # Configuration and logfile names: If the filenames you specify for many
    # of the server's control files begin with "/" (or "drive:/" for Win32), the
    # server will use that explicit path. If the filenames do not begin
    # with "/", the value of ServerRoot is prepended -- so "logs/foo.log"
    # with ServerRoot set to "/opt/IBMIHS" will be interpreted by the
    # server as "/opt/IBMIHS/logs/foo.log".
    ### Section 1: Global Environment
    # The directives in this section affect the overall operation of Apache,
    # such as the number of concurrent requests it can handle or where it
    # can find its configuration files.
    # ServerRoot: The top of the directory tree under which the server's
    # configuration, error, and log files are kept.
    # NOTE! If you intend to place this on an NFS (or otherwise network)
    # mounted filesystem then please read the LockFile documentation (available
    # at <URL:http://httpd.apache.org/docs-2.0/mod/mpm_common.html#lockfile>);
    # you will save yourself a lot of trouble.
    # Do NOT add a slash at the end of the directory path.
    ServerRoot "/opt/IBMIHS"
    # The accept serialization lock file MUST BE STORED ON A LOCAL DISK.
    #LockFile logs/accept.lock
    # PidFile: The file in which the server should record its process
    # identification number when it starts.
    PidFile logs/httpd.pid
    # Timeout: The number of seconds before receives and sends time out.
    Timeout 300
    # KeepAlive: Whether or not to allow persistent connections (more than
    # one request per connection). Set to "Off" to deactivate.
    KeepAlive On
    # MaxKeepAliveRequests: The maximum number of requests to allow
    # during a persistent connection. Set to 0 to allow an unlimited amount.
    # We recommend you leave this number high, for maximum performance.
    MaxKeepAliveRequests 100
    # KeepAliveTimeout: Number of seconds to wait for the next request from the
    # same client on the same connection.
