Inner classes - what can they see of encapsulating class?

The java online tutorial is a bit unclear here:
On page http://java.sun.com/docs/books/tutorial/java/javaOO/nested.html It says:
As a member of its enclosing class, a nested class has a special privilege: It has unlimited access to its enclosing class's members, even if they are declared private. and then in the q&a ( http://java.sun.com/docs/books/tutorial/java/javaOO/QandE/nested-questions.html ) it asks whats wrong with a class. The answer is
Add final in front of the declaration of the timer variable. A nested class declared within a method has access to any final, local variables in scope. So what exactly can a nested class see? all variables or jus local finals?
Thanks a lot for any help....

All variables.

  • Can "they" see what sites I'm connecting to?

    I connect to the internet on my MBP through airport extreme which is connected to a LAN. My question is, can the LAN admins or ISP providers or ANYONE who's in "charge" up there see exactly what sites and pages I have browsed to? I know they can see whether or not I'm connected and using the internet, but how much can "they" see exactly?
    I have my firewall enabled as well as firewall logging, blocking udp traffic (whatever that is) and stealth mode. Just curious... I guess I'm a bit paranoid!
    Thanks for your help.

    Ehlimana,
    I was a system administrator in a computing lab. We were up to our ears (and a few other body parts!) in computers. We created an inventory database of all our computers and then I created a system that would query the main switch for the company and retrieve all the MAC numbers of computers using our network.
    When someone connected an unauthorized computer on our network, within a few seconds I would have a window on my desktop computer showing me the computer's MAC number, IP address and what jack they were plugged into, and a small map showing me which cube the person was sitting in inside the building. If it was through our wireless node, I still had their MAC number.
    With that, I had several tools at my disposal with which I could use to find out what they were doing and look at the sites they were visiting. Even if their packets were encrypted, I could still see what site they were visiting.
    Not only that, we also had access to the logs, so even if someone was authorized, we could still go through the logs and see who was looking at what.
    The point is, whoever owns the network can pretty much see anything they want to see on the network. If you want to keep your surfing private, do it at home on the network you own. And always make sure you have all your security precautions in place!

  • I am logged on to a wifi and can see files from other users on this network.  Can they see my files as well?

    I am logged on to a wifi and can see files from other users on this network.  Can they see my files as well?

    Yes and no. It depends on your settings.
    Go into "System Preference" and click on "Sharing"
    If you have services checked such as "File Sharing" then others can see your computer on the network. But you really don't need to worry because others would need your username and password to have access to your files.
    What you see are just computers annousing themselfs on the network. To have access to said computers, Username and Passwords are required.
    Hope this helps

  • IPhone in lost mode, if a person guesses the 4 digit passcode can they see/send messages and contacts etc?

    I have lost my iPhone. Someone has found it. I got an email message when they turned it on and called it immediately. Unfortunately they turned it off, after the first call and now it goes straight to answerphone. It has been in lost mode for three days. My question is simple, if the person guesses the four digit passcode, can they send/see text messages and emails, can they see contacts etc. Do they need my apple id and password to access and use the phone or simply the four digit code?
    Thanks in advance,
    Regards.

    Yes, i appreciate that. I do hope they don't, however the passcode is VERY simple... If they guess or if it was actually taken by someone that knows me or saw me enter the code, then can they use the phone normally once it's entered, will i get an email or will the phone come out of lostmode on the app? Sorry for the repeated question. I will shortly hit the 'this solved my question' button
    Thanks again

  • Stolen Iphone. They turned it off, and it had a lock. What can they even do with it?

    It was stolen from me, and I immediatly went and tracked it using find my Iphone. Apparently, it is turned off and has been for a few days. I have a lock on the phone, so they can't get into it. What can they do? If it is pawned to someone, won't it have to be turned on? I feel like at some point, they need to turn it on or it is nothing to them. Is this just a waiting game for me?

    I'm confused about if they plug it in to restore it, will find my Iphone show the last known location on Icloud, or will that information be gone? I'm just trying to understand before I move on.
    It depends how quick they are.  When an iPhone is power on, the location information is not instantly updated - it may take a few minutes before Location Services gets a stable location fix, find my iphone is activated and tries to talk to the iCloud servers, and the servers respond and the location information is exchanged.  And if they are inside, so GPS is impeded, then a location fix may take awhile as the system cycles through its options trying to get a location fix.
    So if they power it up,plug it into iTunes, force recovery mode quickly enough, then it is unlikely the iCloud server will get the information before the wipe begins.
    It just is not something you can count on as there are too many things that have to happen in succession, each with their own potential delays, and it really takes little time to power on an iOS device and initiate a restore.

  • If someone can access my airport timecapsule wireless can they see my backup files too?If someone can access my airport timecapsule wireless can they see my backup files too?

    I have 4 iMacs in the office and we are using the Airport Time Capsule 3TB to wirelessly back them up.
    It is connected to the main wireless modem router.
    I'd like everyone in the office (iMacs, PCs and guests) to connect to the internet through the Airport Capsule. (As I may have to move the main router out into another room to connect it to the built in ethernet cable network).
    I'm concerned, though, that anyone who can access the wireless internet functions of the Timecapsule will also be able to see and copy the backup files on there.
    Should I be worried?

    In normal operation, Macs can only "see" the backups that have been made from their own Mac. They cannot "see" the backups made on another Mac. Try it and see.
    With some tricky workarounds that only a devious person would use, it is possible to "see" the main backup file of another Mac......but they would also have to have the user name and password for that Mac.....or actually be using that Mac to see inside the main file and access specific backups.
    A bit safer and probably more reliable approach would have a backup hard drive connected to each Mac.
    But, even then someone who really wanted the files would probably just take the hard drive.

  • What kind of damage to ones privacy if somebody had your appleID password.. what can they pull up from your account..?

    can they look up old emails.. text messages..?

    They can access any data in your Apple ID page, including alternative email addresses. If you have an iCloud account they can access all your emails - they can also delete then or send from your account - and also your contacts list and calendars. They can also go into your Apple ID page and change the password to something you don't know, and lock you out.
    Therefore, if you even remotely suspect that someone has your password you should change it NOW. Go to http://appleid.apple.com and log in with the ID and password, and change your password to something really strong and unguessable.

  • TS4006 What can they do with my stolen MaBook? Can they take it out of the cloud?

    Can they make a stolen McBook dissapear from the cloud? even when I locked it?

    You can only locate your device when it is logged into iCloud and 'Find My Phone' is enabled, additionally the device will need to be switched on and connected to a wifi or cellular network.
    Unfortunately, you cannot activate iCloud or 'Find My Phone' remotely.
    If the device is wiped by you or another, you may not be able to locate the device (although some have reported they can)

  • Can you see a history of who was looking at files? What did they see?

    I accidentally left file sharing on and noticed that someone inside the hotel was conected, is there any way to find any info of who was connected?

    Hi skube70, and a warm welcome to the forums!
    AS far as I know... NO, but likely they saw nohing other than what is in your Shared folder even so, they need a Username & Password to see more.

  • HT4865 If you are sharing  an iCloud with some one. Can they  see what you are texting  to other peoe

    I have a question about icloud

    No, that happens when you are both using the same Apple ID for iMessage (which is separate from iCloud).  If you are, then one of you needs to go to Settings>Messages>Send & Receive, tap the ID, sign out, then sign back in with a different ID.  You can continue to share the same ID for iCloud.

  • (updated)UIScrollBar and my own class. Can they works together?

    Hi Eone,
    i'm implementing a uiscrollbar in a class of mine that extends textfield. Unluckly it gives to me  a lot of 1120 error, undefined property, in each row i use a property of this component (except the constructor).
    I read somewhere that As2 not allow to use uisbar in other type of class that extends movieclip or textfiled or you know what...
    It's the same in As3?
    EDIT:
    I found a solution. Some method an properties of UISB can be used in the cvlass (like, contructor, update, target). Some otherelse not. So the other can be used only when i do an instance of my own class, like properties of the instance. Ex:
    textfield.UISB.x = 100;
    textfield: instance of my class
    UISB: scrollbar declared within my class
    x= properties defined only instancing my class

    You need to read the basics about Swing events.
    For starters, you do not implement listeners in your Applet class. Instead, you add new listeners to specific components that you want to listen on. For example, if you need to perform certain actions when a JComboBox's selection changes, you would do something like:
    my_combo.addActionListener(  new ActionListener() {
        public void actionPerformed(ActionEvent e) {
            System.out.println("selection changed to: " + my_combo.getSelectedItem());
    });And for buttons:
    my_button.addActionListener( new ActionListener() {
        public void actionPerformed(ActionEvent e) {
            System.out.println("You clicked " + ((JButton) e.getSource()).getText() " button);
    }MoustListener and other listeners can be similarily added. See JDK Documentation or Tutorials

  • HT4528 i need to make sure that my phone is completely priviate.  My sons father has an iphone also and they know my apple id and passowd.  Can they see all my stuff on my phone and can they connect to icloud

    I need to make sure that no one can see anything on my iphone.  My sons father knows my apple id and password and I am worried he is able to use icloud etc.  Please help

    They will be able to log into iCloud for your contacts. They will also be able to set up another iPhone with your Apple ID and look at photos stored on your photo stream and intercept iMessages as well as purchasing apps and charge them to your stored card.
    Change your Apple ID password and the password for the associated email address and change the challenge questions
