InputStream partial reading problem

Hi, I have to read a big file partially, in my function as a parameter i will have
InputStream - 'is'
byte[] buffer = new byte[1024];
long sentBytes = 0;
int bytesRead = is.read(buffer, 0, 1024);
while (bytesRead > 0) {
sentBytes += bytesRead;
bytesRead = is.read(buffer, 0, 1024);
counter++;
i'm reading more than i should- how to cope with that? its a problem with last part of stream i suppose..
bytesRead = is.read(buffer, 0, chunkSize);
but when i call buffer.length at the end, it prints lower value than 1024, so where is the problem?

  • Problem with partial reads of HDF5 dataset

    I'm having a problem figuring out how to to a partial read of an HDF5 dataset using LVHDF5 by Jason S. I can save a dataset in a file, and I can read it out whole, but I can't figure out how to read a portion of it. For example
    I save a 235x235x1024 dataset in a file. I want to read a 5x5x1024 array from this dataset. I am trying the following:
    - use H5Dopen.vi to open the dataset
    - use H5Dget_space.vi to get a reference to a dataspace that I assume (guess) is the dataspace associated w/ the dataset
    - use H5Sselect_hyperslab.vi to select my 5x5x1024 portion using the "block" input. My starting location is 0,0,0 and stride and count are 1,1,1
    - use Create Matching DataSpace.vi to create a dataspace that is 5x5x1024 in size, with the same datatype as my dataset (float).
    - read the data in the "hyperslab" into an array using H5Dread.vi followed by the Variant to Data function.
    If I don't wire the file space input, H5Dread.vi reads the whole dataset.  However, if I try to use the reference obtained w/ H5Dget_space.vi as the file space, I get an error from Variant to Data that says "The data type of the variant is not compatible with the data type wired to the type input.".
    I would appreciate any help in getting this to work.
    Solved!

    Aha. I found my problem. I have to use H5Dselect_hyperslab in my memory space as well as my file space.

  • Partial read-only view object. How to make it work?

    Hello,
    is there a way to have a "partial" read-only view object, where some attributes are based on an EO and some others are extracted directly from a table with no corresponding EO?
    On this view-object it should be possible to perform row insertions from an af:table, in a way that, after validation (i.e. a row selection change), the values on the attributes not based on the EO do not get lost, even if they do not have any attributes based on an EO.
    On the other hand, if I use fake EO attributes ($none$) for those read-only attributes, their values will not gest lost after validation of the new interted rows, but in this case, when the table is first rendered on the page, the table shows empty values on those items, probably because the EO attributes are empty when the query is performed.
    Note that It seems I cannot use Transient attributes where their value is calculated with a SQL statement, since it would mean I would have to perform an heavy SQL statement for every transient attribute.
    Is there any other solution, I hope the problem is clear.

    That solution does not cover the case where an attributed of one entity used as reference is calculated from a SQL expression with parameters involving the remaining attributes of the same entity.
    For example consider a reference-only entity based on a table with one field T(COD). This entity has one more attribute other than COD itself, CALCULATED_VALUE.
    How can I bind the attribute CALCULATED_VALUE to a SQL expression which is a function of COD: MyDBPackage.GetValue(COD, :environment), where :environment is bind variable?
    The frameowork always give me JBO-exception , asking to specify IN or OUT for the variable.

  • InputStream - OutputStream: Reader - Writer

    What was not possible by InputStream & OutputStream that JAVA had to provide Reader and Writer. I have found out that if I use InputStream to read a Chinese HTML page, it reads it. I can create a copy of the same HTML page by using OutputStream, the data remaining un-affected. Then, why do I go for Reader and Writer?
    What happens if InputStream encounters some unicode charchters to be read? How does InputStream and OutputStream function internally?

    Well, you can go look at the source of InputStream/OutputStream.
    The reason we have Reader/Writer as well is because the streams don't deal with character encoding (or at least, they tried to and did it very badly). So you would normally use streams for dealing with binary data and reader/writer for dealing with character data. If you're using streams to copy a file and this file happens be be HTML with Chinese characters, this will work fine because you're just duplicating bytes. But if you try and use a stream to read this file into memory, you will have problems because it won't understand the Unicode characters in the file. In this case, you need to use a Reader and tell it what the character encoding of the file is.

    HP posted a workaround for this problem while they were working with Microsoft to get the root cause of the problem, many customers commented that the workaround helped them out and they were able to print. This workaround was not easy to use as the customer needed to add another printer manually and changed drivers.
    We can now announce that the problem has been fixed, the problem involved a Microsoft Network component that HP was using to talk to and track the printers on the network. This fix is being rolled out by Microsoft via Windows Update and anyone who has Windows Update enabled and set to automatically install updates should have already received this update. For those that do not have Windows Update setup to automatically install fixes the fix is available now and should be installed.
    The details of this fix and a manual method of installing it can be found here.

    This fix is only designed for users that are using there printer on a Network (Wireless or Wired) and will not fix partial printing problems encountered with USB connections.

  • Image reading problem in servlet

    Image reading problem in servlet
    I am reading an image in servlet and writing it to ServletOutputStream
    The following code works fine unless I change the size of the byte array (for increasing download speed) from 8 to something like 128 or any other higher value
    If I change the value of byte array size the image does not get downloaded properly, I mean the quality of the image changes, it does not looks like the original imageURL url = new URL("http://www.mysite.com/images/img1.jpg");
    URLConnection con = url.openConnection();
    con.setUseCaches(false);
    BufferedInputStream in = new BufferedInputStream(con.getInputStream());
    BufferedOutputStream out = new BufferedOutputStream(response.getOutputStream());
    byte b[] = new byte[8];
    while(in.read(b) != -1)
         out.write(b);
         out.flush();
    out.close();
    in.close();what do I change
    byte array size
    or use the constructor of BufferedInputStream with 2 parameter
    or use the constructor of BufferedOutputStream with 2 parameter
    or use flush outside while loop or what else

    Change your while loop to:
    int count;
    while((count = in.read(b)) != -1)
         out.write(b, 0, count);
         out.flush();
    }The penultimate time read is called, it may not fill the entire byte array. You only want to write out however much was read into the array.
    For better performance, you should move the flush() outside of the loop too. BufferedOutputStream will flush automatically when its internal buffer is full.

  • Telnet read problem -- Telnet read back

    I am trying to use telnet to send TL1 command to my UUT and expect to read back measurement data.  I was able to read proper data once in a while but most of the time I read back the TL1 command that I sent.  I tried different read mode and timeout period but nothing seem to matter.  My vi was written in Labview 8.2.1 with Internet toolkit.  I read in the forum about some limitation of the telnet read problem of the vi from the internet toolkit,  Is there any better read driver around?
    Thanks,
    Patrick

    Hey!  I have a few questions for you that should help us solve this problem.  First, have you tried out the telnet shipping example "Telnet Line Client.vi".  This will help us minimize programming errors, etc.  Also, what type of device are you trying to communicate with?  Are there other forms of communication available?  For example, does the device also have a serial port, GPIB Port, etc.?  Also, is it possible to write to the device using TCP/IP (This is what telnet is based on)?  Let me know the answers to these questions and I will be better equipped to help you out!!

  • T 420s cooling air coming out is very hot, finger print reader problem

    I am living in ruwais, abudhabi.i bought T 420s in last June from LENOVO  authorized distributor. Model number is 4174-KK4 and the sr no ***.
    Sometime the cooling air coming out is very hot, unable to keep the laptop on the lap.
    The cooling fan also replaced still the temperature is high.
    After replacing the fan I noticed that I noticed one of the screws was not fixed, I asked them to fix it, then they fixed it.
    I traveled back to my home 240 KM from the  authorized distributor service  center. when I started the laptop, the fingerprint reader was not working . Then I traveled back 240 KM to the  authorized distributor service  center to fix the issue. They fixed the fingerprint reader problem.
    Then now the SD card reader is not working. I was asked to bring the laptop to the  authorized distributor service centre.
    Can any one experience the same type of problems  with T 420s the cooling air coming out is very hot, finger print reader problem, card reader not working?
    The authorized distributor says for the service they can only cover 50 KM form the  authorized distributor service  center to the customer point, what is the conditions for the On site warranty ?. I am living 240 KM away from the authorized distributor service center from whom I bought the laptop.
    Moderator comment: Serial number(s) removed to protect member from mischief.

    Well clearly after the first incident. You need to check and us it verifying everything is working before leaving the service center or town its in. Go to a coffee shop and spend time using it and test each option is working.
    When the notebook its opened the finger print reader, card reader etc may not be connect properly or connectors not snap fully and disconnect. Mouse ultranav I have heard may also. But clearly you assume too much and you need to spend the time testing its working before leaving.
    These service center are only paid a fixed amount so they won't spend anymore time then they have to and address one problem you brought it in for.
    As for heat out put and over heating. There are many threads on these systems you can find and read about.
    Advice:
    - install Core Temp, this will monitor and display on the task bar you CPU core temp and you can see CPU load & Temperature at a glance if it approaching or staying near the max levels which will kill the CPU and/or motherboard due to cooking it. Its free just be sure to deselect any additional software from installing during the process. I use it on my notebooks. If the system is running high core Temp all the time you need to have it resolved or it will die and most likely out of warranty and/or your data will be lost if you don't have a backup as well. http://www.alcpu.com/CoreTemp/
    - use a laptop cooler. Its a flat pad you sit the laptop on you lap or table with usually two cooling fans that plug into the USB port for power. It will help cool the base of the laptop and other components inside will not be as hot. This will do nothing for the CPU temperature though.

  • DataSocket Read problem

    Hi all,
    When I use the new condensed "DataSocket Read" vi in Labview 6i (which is
    unfortunately not editable and is supposed to replace old vi's like "open
    connection", "update", "close" and so on) a single time to read automat
    words through an OPC server, the vi returns "zeros" all the way. The only
    solution I found to read the right datas is to place the "DataSocket Read"
    in a "While Loop" which loops until datas are different from zeros, which
    is very inconvenient and time consuming. I tried diffferent settings with
    "DataSocket Read" (wait for update, timeout) but the problem remains.
    Have you also faced the same problem ? Is there a solution ? Thanks for your
    assistance.

    This is a problem with the 6i data socket routines ... use the old routines
    from the data socket examples (with the open,update, close drivers), and it
    works fine.

  • Card Reader problem with MSI K8T Neo

    Hi,
    I have the K8T Neo motherboard, and every once and a while my Atech Flash 9 in 1 card reader  (http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=20-176-003&depa=0) doesn't power up, thus I can't use it.
    What's odd is that all my other USB devices work flawlessly.
    The only way I'm able to use the card reader again is to power down my computer and then flip the power switch on the psu, then turn it back on, or unplug the reader from the usb header on the motherboard and plug it back in.
    I've noticed other people have had similar issues...
    Any ideas what causes this, or any ideas on how to fix this?
    Bio Haz

    Yes, I had the same hanging problems as well with older BIOS versions then 1.7.
    But that isn't the problem I'm talking about, the computer always starts up, it's just a matter if the usb reader will work or not.
    Maybe MSI has yet to make a BIOS that is compatible with all card readers.

  • InputStream keeps reading forever

    Hi,
    I have a 'little' problem with input stream. I have a Telnet connection established and I'm reading the input I receive. I read some input and then I send commands. I'm reading the input inside a while loop like this one:
    InputStream in = telnet.getInputStream();
    char ch = '';
    while (condition) {
        ch = (char)in.read();
    }The problem is that, when the input is over, in doesn't get out of read and it stays there forever. It doesn't event returns -1, the last char read, anything, it simply doesn't gets out of there. Is there a way to know when there's no more input to avoid this from happening? I can't use read(byte[]) because the input varies and I can't know how many data will be received. There's also no indicator of the end of data like: EOF or -1.
    I will appreciate any help.

    kazenofairy wrote:
    Nope, it's not the condition. And it's not a file what I'm reading, it's the input from a Telnet connection. My condition is:
    InputStream in = telnet.getInputStream();
    char ch = '';
    int chaux = 0;
    while (chaux != -1) {
    chaux = in.read();
    ch = (char)chaux;
    }I'm printing the values that chuax and ch are getting, but, when there's no more input, it just stops reading and the loop doesn't continues or breaks.Ah, ok, I missed that part on telnet; the stream obviously didn't hit an end of file condition then so you have to stop reading on another condition such as the end of the line or maybe
    the InputStream.available() method can be of any use. Interactive input streams can be messy.

  • SSL reading problem in server-side

    Hi guys,
    I have a problem in my server implemetation with SSL Server Socket. I have created a server socket with a specfic port and bind address. Whenever a client connecfed, i grap its inputstream and starts to read as bytes. There is no problem to open server socket and certifacate authorization, and also a client successfully connects to server. But when client writes some data to its connected socket, server cannot read anything. Server throws no exception and there is no problem in writing. But the available bytes in inputstream is always 0. When i replace SSL socket with normal socket, everything is ok, server can read everything. I confused very much. since i have no concrete exception and stack trace, I know it is hard to explain and get help about my problem. I have added some parts from my code.
    Could you make any suggestions?

                             e1.printStackTrace();
              }

    I process bytes whenever they are available in the
    stream, thus i use available() for checking wheter
    there is any bytes to decode.You are looping and sleeping and calling available(). What's the point? As you have nothing else to do in the loop except sleep according to the above code, the whole sleep/available business is still a waste of time. Why not just read()? You are also burning a lot of CPU cycles for nothing.
    The problem is there is no data in the stream althogh client seems write some data. The problem is that regardless of whether there is data in the stream or not, SSLSocket.getInputStream().available() always returns zero. It always does this, and so you cannot use it for the purpose you intend.
    This is no loss, as the purpose you intend adds no value to just doing a read(). Try it and see.
    I discover the debugging utilities of JSSE and make
    some debugs. I find that client is blocked on its
    socket when it tries to write stream. I am not using
    nio, so my sockets are blocking but i cannot find any
    reasonable explanation for this SSL write blocking on
    socket.The 'reasonable explanation' is that the peer is never reading, so its socket receive buffer is full, so the writer's send buffer eventually fills too, at which point the writer is blocked.
    When i change my implementation and used
    non-SSL socket, everything is ok and there is no
    blocking.That's because Socket.getInputStream().available() returns positive numbers whereas SSLSocket.getInputStream.available() always returns zero.
    Is there anyone who knows something about some kind
    of SSL blocking?There is.

  • Why does my 08 iMac display flashing and partial window problems?

    I have a 2008 iMac with OS X 10.9.2 with 4Gb memeory. In the past week we have experienced partial windows pop up and have unable to close the windows. The problem is resolved by restarting the computer. This has happened about four times in the last week. Today I was using a window and notice flashing when I clicked the mouse with partial windows I had been using previously began appearing on the screen. Any input would be appreciated. Up until this point I have had no problems with this iMac.

    Update - I spent a half hour on the phone with AppleCare this morning and we were unable to resolve the issue. I then took both my display and iMac to the Apple Store today and the Genius Bar not only replaced my iMac - they replaced my 24" Cinema Display with a BRAND NEW 27" Cinema Display! The Genius said that Apple's engineers wanted to research why my display was flickering using the exact display and iMac. Incredible service! And a brand new display!

  • Image reading problem

    hi,
    i'm reading a gif image from an input stream like this:
    InputStream input = document.getBlobProperty(property).getInputStream();
              byte[] theBytesTemp = new byte[1048576];
              int length = input.read(theBytesTemp);
              byte[] theBytes = new byte[length];
              System.arraycopy(theBytesTemp, 0, theBytes, 0, length);
              BufferedImage originalImage = new ImageParsing().getBufferedImage(theBytes);
              input.close();
    (the document.getBlobProperty(property).getInputStream();) is provided by the CMS we use and just returns an input stream. my problem is that the BufferedImage originalImage = new ImageParsing().getBufferedImage(theBytes); (that's part of the sanselan imaging library) throws an exception (java.io.IOException: GIF: corrupt block) for larger images (not sure about the size in detail. images about 10K seem to work, images of about 50K don't).
    Any ideas?

    How can i implement this code database binary data, since i cant get the data into input stream.
    eg:
    * how to copy data in the data field as byte[] to the InputStream,
    * how to use ImageParsing().getBufferedImage(imageBytes); which i can't able to find the class for it,
         ByteArrayOutputStream byteArrayOut = new ByteArrayOutputStream();
         int bufferLength = 1024*1024;
         byte[] buffer = new byte[bufferLength];
         int length = 0;
         /* Im having problem of getting the data to the input stream on below line */
         InputStream input = af.getImg();
         while ((length = input.read(buffer)) != -1) {
              byteArrayOut.write(buffer, 0, length);
         input.close();
         byteArrayOut.close(); //Has no real effect
         byte[] imageBytes = byteArrayOut.toByteArray();
         /* cant find the class for ImageParsing() */     BufferedImage originalImage = new ImageParsing().getBufferedImage(imageBytes);
         OutputStream out = response.getOutputStream();
         /* cant write BufferedImage to the out put stream */     out.write( imageBytes );
         response.flushBuffer();          You shouldn't try to read all the bytes at one time
    like that, there are no quarantees that the read
    opperation will fill the array or read all the bytes
    in the inut stream (this the need to return the
    length read).
    Instead, put the read into a loop, reading into a
    buffer, then append the buffer onto a byte array
    output stream...
    ByteArrayOutputStream byteArrayOut = new
    ByteArrayOutputStream();
    int bufferLength = 1024*1024;
    byte[] buffer = new byte[bufferLength];
    int length = 0;
    InputStream input = ...
    while ((length = input.read(buffer) != -1)
    byteArrayOut.write(buffer, 0, length);
    input.close();
    byteArrayOut.close(); //Has no real effect
    byte[] imageBytes = byteArrayOut.toByteArray();
    BufferedImage originalImage = new
    ImageParsing().getBufferedImage(imageBytes);
