InputStreamReader hangs on some Nokia

Hi,
I've have very strage problem with my app. Its written form midp1.0 and works fine on all ericsson phones and nokia Midp2.0 phones.
But when running on Nokia midp1.0 phones this line hangs the system:
charsLeft = reader.read(buffer, 0, BUFFER_SIZE);
Does anyone know what may be the reason that "read" hangs the system on midp 1.0 nokias?

Yep, I had a similar problem, but it was not restricted to any platform.
I read data from a localhost Socket with an InputStream and if anything slightly "unexpected" happened, the whole Midlet hung up. In other words, it always had to be the "best case scenario" happening for things to go smoothly.
Here's what I did to increase flexibility:
1) I put the Reader in its own Thread.
2) I have access to some variables outside the thread for status information and error handling. You could make "buffer" visible outside the Reader Thread, for example.
3) The "read" statement is in a "while" loop with a boolean flag as the condition.
This flag can be altered outside the Thread in order to facilitate Thread termination.
4) Any other functionality (such as corresponding Writes are outside of the Thread)
In that way, you can increase flexibility and tolerance of your app a bit...
