With the exception of your iPod, keyboard and mouse, disconnect all other USB devices including printers, scanners, external hard drives, thumb drives, arc welders, flash memory readers, etc. before changing the drive letter. Also, be sure to plug the iPod into a rear USB port on the computer and if you are on a network, disconnect from it.

  • Inserting disc into drive leads to whirring noises

Hello, this is my first time in the Apple Forums, and I have a problem concerning the SuperDrive. Yesterday, I wanted to re-install software to use my scanner. When I inserted it, the disc was spinning but there was a loud whirring noise. I quickly ejected it to check the disc. No scratches. Tried it again, the noise came back. Ejected the disc again, no scratches. However, upon closer inspection, I noticed scratches within the center of the disc. After that, I tried again, and the noise came back again, but this time I let the disc spin. After several seconds, it spun like normal. So then I figured that it was just a slight problem. I ejected the disc, and re-inserted it to check again. The noise came back, and this time, the disc was stuck. My girlfriend told me to leave it alone and take it to Apple Store. So, I put it away, and the next day at work, the disc ejected when booting up the OS. But, the problem of the whirring noise remains. In the meantime, I plan to take it to the Apple Store, but can anyone tell me what the problem could be and what can I do about it (that doesn't involve going to the Apple Store)? The warranty expires in August 2007.
    Apple PowerBook G4 17" 1.5 GHz 80GB 512MB RAM   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

If the whirring sound continues after ejecting the disc, I believe it is the sound of an extra cooling fan that turns on when a disc has been running for a while. Mine does this, but I have never found any problems with it beyond the very loud and disturbing noise.
I brought this to the Genius Bar's attention, but they didn't address it (because they were addressing a much more important repair issue) and then my warranty ran out.
I suggest you get them to address it before your warranty expires. Once the warranty is gone, there's no way to get any more free repair service. Until then, take advantage of their great support.

  • No disc in the drive. Please install disc into drive E.

I have contacted your customer tech service via chat. They worked with me for three hours today and passed me off to the forums because they couldn't speak English and couldn't figure out the answer to my problem, even after taking control of my computer.
What my problem is, is that I just bought both photoshop and Premiere elements 13. Photoshop seems to work fine.
When I click on Premiere Elements 13 I get an error box that reads: There is no disc in the drive. Please insert disc into drive E.
Adobe chat support seemed to think it was enough that the program was installed correctly. They couldn't figure out how to get rid of the dang error box that disappears after 7 to 10 clicks anywhere on the box. This error box pops up when I enter the program or leave it. Its appearance every time I use the program or leave the program is annoying and unacceptable as we will be opening and closing the program constantly.
I have completely taken off my antivirus program so it wouldn't be a factor in this. I have reinstalled the program about ten times literally, including one tedious download from your website. The error message still continues to pop up.
I am running Windows 8 on a brand new computer. 16 GB RAM with 64 bit processor.
Hope you can help because I am very annoyed after six hours of this irritation.

Sorry I meant that I have a 64 bit operating system and the processor is Intel Core i7-337CPU @3.40GHz   3.90Ghz

  • Cannot insert disc into Mac Pro

Cannot insert disc in drive on Mac Book Pro. Have pressed eject button but no reaction. No disc present inside - or at least not shown as being present

If you have suspicions that there might be a disk inside your MBP, try these options just to make certain.  It certainly will not hurt.

  • Error Message:    Insert disk into drive   \Device\Harddisk1\DR1

With Premier 11, when I use the Instant Movie "Outdoor Adventure", after it is created I receive the following error message, locking up the program:

What does the error message mean and how do I fix it?

Did you install the "patch" for SmartSound?
Perhaps this ANNOUNCEMENT will be helpful, if you have not done the installation, or the patch:
ANNOUNCEMENT: SmartSound Sonicfire Pro Issues In PrE 11
    Hide Details
If one is having issues with SmartSound's Sonicfire Pro music creation plug-in, a likely cause is the lack of a recent patch from SmartSound. One should follow the instructions at http://www.smartsound.com/support/link.php?id=308 to update your smartsound version to v5.7.5.

  • Cannot insert disk into drive. How to fix this problem?

    Hi,
I have a mac Mini and have had it since August last year. The disk drive has been working fine, until today. Cannot remember the last time I used the disk drive, but it couldn't have been more than two months ago. Anyways, the problem that has occured today is that when I try and insert a disk into the drive, it does not except it. The is no usual sound of the motors being activated by sensors to feed the disk into the drive. maybe the sensors are dirty? If so, how can they be cleaned? Have tried to insert the disk as much as I can into the drive until reaching a point where it will no longer physically go into the drive. This reaches half way on a standard size CD/DVD. Have tried many disks and have checked to see if there is any damage to any of these disks before inserting them into the drive. I am also very careful with taking disks out of th drive as soon as I am done with them as I am a bit cautious of these disk drives as it is the first time I have used them since August rather than a tray disk drive. I have also checked Finder to see if there are any disks curently in the drive to which there are none. Under the heading 'DEVICES' are the following:
Machintosh HD (Hard disk, as I am sure you all know)
iDisk (Am not sure what this is and haven't used it before)
Remote Disc (Again, not sure what this is and haven't used it)
BackUPHDD (This is my TimeMachine Hard Drive)
Film Work (This is my film Hard Drive with my work on)
Time (This is just another back up Hard Drive as my Mac Mini gets full quickley)
If you would like any more detail then feel free to ask.
Thank you for your time and effort to reading this post and hopefully responding.

Sorry for the late reply. Have been out of the country. Have figured an App for the iPod touch/iPhone/iPad and for Macs called 'iTeleport'. Am sure there are many others like this out there but it is amazing and lets one control the mac from their iPod touch/iPhone/iPad. Am still under warranty with about 60 days left apparently. Have been to the genius bar and they think that there is a small square object stuck inside the disk drive. =s Have no idea how that would have got in there. We tried fishing it out with a credit card but no luck. They advised to book the Mac in so that they can fix the problem. It will take 5-7 days but maybe sooner. Am currently moving everything from the Mac onto another HD just in case. Thank you for your responce towards this thread. <3 Apple and everyone on these forums for helping out with our problems. Thank you.

  • Fix needed? Bad tif froze cs5 ps: "No disk in drive. Insert disk into drive \Device\Harddisk2\DR2"

Request response from Adobe moderator.  Work stoppage.
12-23-2010.    Windows 7 Home Premium.  64-bit.  All updates are done promptly.  Using NOD32 antivirus.
Apparently I can't insert a Snagit 9 screen grab into this message.    Adobe's message said the content type wasn't allowed.  It was a Snagit 9 window grab saved into a Word document.  ??
    ========================================================================================== =======================
A lawyer sent me a tif of a contract, titled "Photoshop.exe".  I couldn't open it in PS, and finally had to have another person scan the contract and send it as a pdf.
The error message dialog box says "Photoshop.exe - No Disk" at the top.
After the red circle with the white "X", "There is no disk in the drive. Please insert a disk into drive \Device\Harddisk2\DR2".
    "Cancel"    "Try Again"   "Continue"
None of the 3 options has any effect.
Only the splash screen of ps appeared before the error message appeared.  PS is frozen at this point.
Task Manager showed "Photoshop.exe - No Disk" was running, but "End Task" had NO effect.
Task Manager said PS was "not responding".  The attempt to close  ps resulted in the "not responding" becoming translucent, but ps wouldn't close.  Since the error message was still open, I clicked on the x in the upper corner.  The message either blinked and reappeared, or had no response at all.
I was fortunate enough to actually close the message once, only to have it reappear before I could complete clicking on the "Close" button in Task Manager.  Several clickings later, I was successful in closing the error message and utilizing task manager to get ps to close, by clicking on the "Lose Data" caution message.  Then I was able to "Quit Task" the "Photoshop.exe" file.  Quite a frustrating situation.
Now, I can't use PS.  Whenever I open it, it freezes at the spash screen and the same error message appears!
Last night, another similar message appeared:
Yesterday evening, this error message appeared.  Note the identical "Photoshop.exe" portion of the message:
Owl Orphanage: Photoshop.exe – Entry Point Not Found
X  The procedure entry point  ?GetNumTiles@JP2KImage@@QAEJXZ      (Same white X in a red circle.)
could not be located in the dynamic link library JP2KLib.dll.
I can't decide if a virus was embedded in the image file the lawyer sent, or if there is some but in ps which is reacting to this tif file.
Thanks in advance for your help!
    Don

    Thanks, Bob.
I considered that possibility initially, but the file was expected, as it was from my family's lawyer, and was being sent per a conversation with other family members.

  • Mac Mini 2011 / Lion  Cannot insert disc into slot??

When I try to insert a disc (music) into the slot, it only goes in slightly less than half way.
It is never pulled in by the mini.
Early in this mini's life, I loaded tons of music cd's on the mini.
How do we fix this problem? TIA.

    1. Go into Spotlight from the top of your MacBook on the menu bar.
    2. And search for "CDs & DVDs" (It's also in the System Preferences)
Click on it and a small CDs & DVDs window will pop up with options of what happens when you insert a disk into the drive
    3. By then, try inserting a disk in (while that window is open. This kinda wakes up your drive to accept the disk). It should accept it.
    4. If nothing happens, then manually open the program that should be opening when you insert the disk or go to Finder (Eg. if it's an audio disk, then open iTunes)
    5. If opening the program still does not activate the drive to start spinning the disk, then close the programs and windows you opened, and repeat step 1-4 and the disk should be spinning and automatically opening the proper program.
Or go into Terminal app and type in: drutil ejec
The drutil ejec tip is credited to Dan8954
    Hope that helps!

  • Problem inserting discs into iMac

I removed an audio CD from my iMac and now it will not let me insert anything. Its seems locked?
    Any suggestions?

Open "Disk Utility" and see if it recognizes the Superdrive. Try restarting the iMac while holding the mouse button during restart (causes eject action). Reset PRAM:
    PRAM RESET
    Shut down the computer.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    Release the keys.

  • DVD RW Drive (D:) does not recognize disc in drive

I insert a valid disc into the D Drive and ask to open, the drive pops open and a box pops up saying "Insert a disc" "Please insert a disc into drive D:.   Help me PLEASE.

Are you still under warranty? If so you can take it back to be fixed. If not there is a problem with the cd/dvd drive so maybe you might have to change the drive or check for the driver for the cd/dvd and see if there are available updates to it. If not uninstall and re-install it and see what happens. If nothing happens then you might have to change the drive.

  • PSE13 on Win 8: repeated popup error "no disc in drive"

I have photoshop elements 13 and it installed fine. It even works fine but I get this popup every time I open an close the program that says: No disc in drive. Please install disc into drive E. This is frustrating since I am in and out of the program all the time. I have to click the error message seven to ten times before it will go away and each click it makes an irritating ding sound that woke my wife up the other night. Upon closing the program the same message pops up and I have to click on it four to six times before it will go away.
How do I fix this problem?
I have reinstalled the program literally ten times. One of which was straight from the Adobe website - per Adobe chat support. Adobe chat support was not able to fix my problem, even after taking control of my pc and sent me to forums.
I also have disconnected all external hard drives and took antivirus off my pc so it wouldn't be a factor.
I don't know what else to do but am finding this really annoying to the point that I don't want the program on my pc anymore if it can't be fixed.
I am running Windows 8, 64 bit, have 16 GB RAM, and have Intel Core i7-3770 CPU   3.40 GHz   3.90GHz on a brand new computer.
    Thank

  • I have just gotten the new imac for christmas. where do i insert a disc into my new iMac?

i am unsure on how to insert a disc into the new imac.

You need to purchase an external, third party FireWire/Thunderbolt or USB 2.0/3.0 optical drive or
You can purchase a companion drive direct from Apple for $79.
Third party drives will be cheaper.
