Insert Flash with Dreamweaver CS3 Question

So I have been building websites for awhile and have always relied on the built in insert flash object that came with dreamweaver as I have never had issues with it.
However as I finished a site recently the client had a friend look at it and brought up the red flag that the site was not w3 compliant.  So I go and look at the little tool they have and the only error that comes up is related to the insertion of flash on the page.
I googled it a bit and found a number of people saying that the insert flash through dreamweaver will no show up as compliant.  A couple solutions to fix the problem.
But before I go down that road, I want to ask. ...Does it really matter here?  Seems like Dreamweaver insertion would be compliant? I mean come on the link that the w3 give to fix the problem is a link from a fix created in 2002.
I have never heard of anyone saying no the flash does not show up so right off I am not terribly concerned but it would be nice to know..
Also if it is important and suggestions as to a nice fix to the issue would be great.
Thanks for your time,
Chris

Right you are!
I tend to spot check pages and haven't done a W3C check on a flash embed in my websites (apparently). Just did one pursuant to your question. The page is 100% compliant without the Flash video. has 51 errors, 35 warnings with it. Lots of those errors are Adobe-generated Javascript that handles the flash video insert, skins it and so on.
Here is where Adobe may not be compliant with the W3C.

  • Inserting FLASH into Dreamweaver cs3

I am trying to build a VERY basic website in Dreamweaver. Using their single fixed column, centered, template, i would like to ad 2 flash items, a menu and small movie, in to he top of the column. (Both flash items are larger than the column with, if that matters,i was going to resizxe them  nce  i  got  this part of the  cose  correct)
For some reason the flash movie shows in my Dreamweaver preview, but not when i load it live online  @ www.srg-buffalo.com.
The address i have used for the flash movie is: http://www.srg-buffalo.com/flash/header_v8.swf
The website is hosted at www.swq-buffalo.com, if you want to check out the source code.
I have no idea what I am doing wrong, i thought it was pretty simple, there is no flash block via my go daddy host.
How i  inserted it  via dreamweaver  cs3:
    Insert> Media> Flash.
    URL= http://www.srg-buffalo.com/flash/header_v8.swf
    What am  i doing wrong?
    Thanks for any help.

    Thank you,
    That rung a  bell.
I uploaded  both  saved .SWF documents to  the Scripts directory.
There was also  a  Scripts dirrectory saved  with index.html,  in this directory was the  AC_RunActiveContent.js  file, any thoughts on that?
i  uploaded it to  scripts, along witht he  others, and the space  dedicatd to the flash events is there, but they are not  showing.

When you insert the SWF, you shouldn't have to actual type anything - it's a browse and select process and will automatically enter the correct path to the SWF. Then you have to upload the page and the SWF file. This next part I think has changed in later versions of DW, but in CS3 I'm pretty sure the process will also create a folder named Scripts. This folder along with it's contents also need to be uploaded.

  • Inserting Flash into Dreamweaver document question

When I insert a Flash swf into my Dreamweaver document, the flash file will be displayed in the same dimensions as it is on the flash file on every computer correct? So for example, if I insert a swf file that is 550 x 400 into my Dreamweaver, whether it is displayed on a computer with a 2000x1220 screen, or a 1270x800 screen, the swf file will aways be 550 x 400 (so on the 2000x1200, the swf will be much smaller). Basically I'm asking how do I make it so the flash swf is stretched to fit the entire page no matter what the resolution is?

The short answer is you can't.  It's because of how images are handled.  FLA native files are vector images.  However, the animation/interaction itself when saved as a SWF file becomes rasterized, thus the image gets blurry the larger you make it.  So if you make it bigger no matter how you save it, the image will become blurry.  What you should do if you need to fill the background is create a repeating background image to put on your page behind the flash that will expand regardless of the resolution.  With the repeating background the image is not stretched but rather printed on the screen over and over again making the effect that the image is stretched across the screen.

  • CVS / subversion with dreamweaver CS3

    Hello,
I am working on a few projects that require code versioning
and I have been told by many people that CVS is the way to go.
Is there a way to integrate CVS with dreamweaver CS3?
Has dreamweaver CS3 native support for any repository system
    type??
There are some free gpl plugin/add-on for CVS/ repository
    support?
    Thanks a lot

Some may say SubVersioN is the way to go, it's been
    redesigned to address
    some shortcomings in CVS

Dreamweaver has native support for Microsoft Visual
    SourceSaFe
Dreamweaver can use WebDAV repositories natively, and you can
    use apache as
    a WebDAV frontent for SubVersion.

  • Contribute CS4 with Dreamweaver CS3

I have a number of sites created with Dreamweaver CS3, and
intend to provide update access with Contribute - but Contribute
CS3 is now hard to get hold of. Will these sites work with
Contribute CS4 if developed with DW CS3: general functions such as
editable sections, checkin/checkout. I don't want to upgrade my
    systems yet to CS4.
CS4 suite has much higher system requirement than CS3 - which
probably means a hardware upgrade first - so want to avoid this.
Can't find any info on this anywhere.
    Thanks

I just read on the adobe website that:
    "Contribute CS4 works with Adobe Dreamweaver® CS4
    templates"
Does that mean it wont work with Dreamweaver CS3 templates?

  • Integrating Lightroom Flash Gallery with Dreamweaver CS3

I have been unsuccessfully attempting to edit the gallery files created by Lightroom from within Dreamweaver. The index.html file comes up with this message when opened:
Sorry, this photo gallery requires that scripting be enabled on your web browser and that the Macromedia Flash Player be installed. Download the Macromedia Flash Player
However, I have the player installed...
I have tried uploading the files directly to my server from Lightroom but they do not display. The loading icon whirls endlessly and never resolves.
    Does anyone have any advice.
    Thanks in advance.

You can't edit a flash gallery with Dreamweaver.
To make changes to the LR flash gallery you would require a copy of the original fla file and a copy of Flash to edit it.
The index file you see is the one that loads the flash player to play your gallery. The message is what is seen in a browser that doesn't have flash player installed.
You can make amendments to the gallery itself by changing the xml files, although the changes you can make here can also be made in LR itself so why bother?
You can embed the gallery itself in your own html page. Using insert, media and then finding the gallery.swf file. As long as you then upload everything in the correct locations (including the scrippt files abd the new html file in the same folder structure it will work.
There are other flash galleries that are far easier to  embed available. However in order to make serious changes to flash galleries of any type you will require the original fla file and most designers are not going to give you that! Adobe does give away the fla's for the galleries that ship with PS.

  • Inserting Flash into Dreamweaver Site

    Hi,

  • Problems inserting flash buttons in CS3

I used to be able to do this but it's not working like it had
    been.
When I go to insert a flash button using the built-in styles,
it gives me a source that is "undefined" and does not create the
SWF file of the button. This happens on a site that is already
using these buttons and a new website I created to test it out.
    I'm on a MacBook Pro with 10.5.6, Dreamweaver CS3.
Any insight would be very appreciated. Thanks.

Are you really set on using Flash buttons? You understand
    that there are
    many good reasons not to?

  • Flash to Dreamweaver 8 question

Ok, so my question to all you geniuses is pretty simple. If
you notice here on Adobes website, the text that they use is
amazingly clean. The anti-aliasing is near perfect so I can only
assume they're using some type of flash based software to produce
    this effect.
I use flash 8 and when I produce text on it it's near
perfect, just like the text on this website, but I can't seem to
have it editable on Dreamweaver 8 when I transfer it over. I can't
highlight the text to link it to external or internal files. All I
can do is play it as a video. Although the quality looks awsome,
just like it did on Flash but again I can't edit it so that I can
have the text link to files. Like how adobe uses there text as
links to other pages, that is what I want to do with Flash text but
using Dreamweaver to develop the website.
The problem with Dreamweaver and Fireworks is that the text
don't come out looking as clean, no matter how high I set the
    anti-aliasing settings. In-fact on Dreamweaver, I couldn't even
find a settings to increase anti-aliasing. On Fireworks I managed
to find a custome setting and blasted it to the max, but
comparisons side by side didn't look good. The flash based text was
still cleaner, especially when I blew up the size of the text.
Now obviously since flash is flash based and Dreamweaver
probably uses a different type of engine to produce anti-aliasing
how is it that adobe.com managed to make their website so clean
looking. Everything from there text to boxes, to graphics to well
    you get my point.
Anyhow, my main concern is my text. If anyone can help me
with my text issue please give me your pointers. I know adobe is
using flash but how are they making there text individualy
    linkable?
    Thanks a million!!!

You can't edit a flash document using Dreamweaver. Can you
provide an example of your issue? What part of adobe.com are you
referring to? A link would be helpful.

  • Help inserting js into dreamweaver cs3

I have been using MS Publisher (yeah I know) to design my web pages but now I am slowly learning Dreamweaver CS3. I am redoing a site within which I have used some forms created with Coffeecup Webform Bilder. It took me a bit to figure out how to insert the js code in DW but I got it working.  However, the next day when I went to create another page with another CCWFB form I followed the same steps and the form would not work. THEN I went and checked the form from the day before and it was no longer working. I keep seeing "FORM OBJECT" rather than the form. Please help!
    This is a Linux server.
Here is what I have done.
Uploaded all supporting files with CCWFB to the same folder that the web page is located. Also used DW to upload the files just on a lark and no joy.
Double and triple and quadruple checked that the files were in the correct directory. Even loaded them in to other directories just reaching for a solution. No joy.  Also tried testing locally with all supporting files in the same local directory with the same "FORM OBJECT" result.
Inserted the code below that was created with CCWFB into DW via the insert script option.
    <script type="text/javascript" src="swfobject.js"></script><div id="CC6725558">Form Object</div><script type="text/javascript">var so = new SWFObject("msps_application_formdw.swf", "msps_application_formdw.xml", "548", "500", "7,0,0,0", "#ffffff");so.addParam("classid", "clsid:d27cdb6e-ae6d-11cf-96b8-444553540000");so.addParam("quality", "high");so.addParam("scale", "noscale");so.addParam("salign", "lt");so.addParam("FlashVars", "xmlfile=msps_application_formdw.xml&w=548&h=500");so.write("CC6725558");</script>
Created a CSS that positions the object at the bottom of the page. I have eliminated this step in previous attempts with the same results. Not sure why it would matter really but I have been grasping at straws for two days now.
As mentioned the results are that I get "FORM OBJECT" on the web page rather than the form. It acts like the files are not where they should be. I must be doing something stupid and just don't remember really how I had it working.
    The page is www.mdperfusion.com/joinmsps.html
The script is in the code and the form should be at the bottom of the page.
On another odd note, when I insert PayPal code using noscript it works locally but not when on the server????  Could there be a common factor...other than then noob user ... in these two problems.  Everything elese works perfectly.
Thank you for your help in advance!
    Jim

So here is my code for the page.  Maybe this would help determine why the form is not showing.  The script code is at the bottom of the page.
    Thanks again for looking.

  • Contribute CS3 incompatible with Dreamweaver CS3

All my Conribute connections no longer work with DW CS3 &
    CT CS3. Why?
    1. I have correctly set up a remote connection in Contribute.
The contribute connection to the website IP is established.
    2. The FTP connection from DW to the website IP is also
    correctly established and working.
    3. The connection information is identical for both
    applications and verified.
    4. PROBLEM: When trying to set up the Contribute connection
from within DW, the following error msg appears: "Dreamweaver could
not connect to the remote server. You cannot perform Contribute
administration tasks without a connection to the remote server.
Please fix the remote connection before proceeding."
    5. NOTE: When the "Administer Site in Contribute" (or Test)
button is clicked in DW, it appears that several files are being
loaded to the remote server before the error message appears.
Subsequent attempts at clicking the buttons seems to load more
    files. Very weird.
    6. FACTS: There is no problem with the remote connection from
    either DW or CT.
QUESTION: What's up with this message? Why is there a failure
to communicate between these two application that wasn't there
    before?
Thanks in advance for any assistance,
    Chris Kane

Have you found an answer for this. I am in a similar
situation, in CS3 Mac. If I use www.mysite.com/www, which is the
folder for ftp purposes, I get:
Dreamweaver could not find a page at the specified site root
URL. Please check the site root URL.
If I just go to the main url, www.mysite.com, I get:
Dreamweaver could not connect to the remote server. You
cannot perform Contribute administration tasks without a connection
to a remote server. Please fix the remote connection before
    continuing.
I've tried it on another site I administer and it worked
fine, so I'm wondering if it's something to do with the
configuration of the server, but my hosts haven't got any answers
    either...
    Any pointers gratefully received.

  • Can someone with Dreamweaver cs3 open a cs5 file?

    Hi:
Work just upgraded me to DreamWeaver CS5 but I work on files that I share with another web author and they have DreamWeaver CS3.  If I edit a file and save it in DreamWeaver 5, will the other author be able to open the file in DreamWeaver CS3?  I have not loaded my new software at work yet because I was afraid there might be a problem.    This is our work intranet so I need to be careful I don't screw the site up. We save our files with the extension .shtml.
    Thanks
    Jeff

Yes, provided you use DW's Check In/Check Out feature so that you don't overwrite each other's work.
There are no proprietary file formats like Microsoft Office.
HTML code is HTML code and can be read by any human being or text editor.
The only caveats are if you use emerging technologies such as HTML5. CS5 can handle that but CS3 will struggle.

  • Bypassing Firewall/Proxy Settings with Dreamweaver CS3

    Hello,
The company that I work for has given us Dreamweaver CS3 and
it's great, however we have a problem with the companies firewall
blocking Dreamweaver from seeing external images when in "Design"
view. I have search throughout Google for a solution and have yet
to find one. I come here in the hopes that someone can help. Our IT
department has told me that the firewall solution they use does not
allow rule sets per application, so they cannot just say "allow
this program to use the web". This leaves me in a tough spot, but
they said in Dreamweaver CS3 has a way to setup a proxy and allow
it to bypass our firewall that would make this quick and easy. Does
DW have something like this, and if so then please point me in the
    right direction!
    I appreciate all assistance.
    Regards,
    John

Maybe not per application but certainly by PC or IP adress.
    Can they put
your IP adress in a rule less agressif.
