  • JDBC to access SQL server 2000 and Oracle.

    hi,
    I have the following requirement. I have an oracle database which contain sql data including BLOB and CLOB. Firstly, I should migrate the data to a SQL server 2000 database. That is, i should be able to have two databases, one on oracle and the other on sql server 2000. the two databases should contain the same data, which includes BLOB data. I guess, sql server 2000 does not have a BLOB data type. What is the equivalent data type i can use to save the Oracle's BLOB data in SQL server?? Should it be image type?
    After i migrate the data to the sql server 2000 database, i should be able to connect to the two databases, oracle and sql server 2000, using the same JDBC code to retrieve, insert, update and delete the data. What are the drivers that i should use. I guess, the MS JDBC driver does not support BLOB and CLOB. Is there a driver that can support BLOB for sql server 2000 and is also free???!
    Kindly help... Thanks.
    Arthi.

    Hi,
    I am new to jdbc... so, pls forgive my ignorance...
    I shall try to map a BLOB data column in oracle to an IMAGE data column in sql server 2000. I am using oracle jdbc driver and microsoft's jdbc driver for connecting to the databases.
    My question is, can i use setBlob() method in the preparedstatement in jdbc code for setting data to the sql server 2000 image column?
    rs.getBlob() and preparedstatement.setBlob()code works fine for oralce's BLOB column using oracle's jdbc driver.... Will the same jdbc code work for sql server 2000's image column using microsoft's jdbc driver??
    Kindly help.

  • JDBC connection to SQL Server 2000 Service Pack 4

    Hello Everyone,
    I'm trying to do a simple application which save some values into a MS SQL Server 2000 Database's Table.
    The source code I've written is:
    package Logging;
    import com.brekeke.net.sip.sv.session.*;
    import com.brekeke.net.sip.sv.session.plugins.*;
    import java.io.*;
    import java.util.*;
    import java.sql.*;
    public class Logging extends AccountingBase {
    public int eventSessionStart( EventStat evstat, String[] argprm )
    int ris =0;
    int line=999;
    try {
    EventStat a;
    a = evstat ;
    String username;
    username=a.urlCaller;
    String callee;
    callee=a.urlCallee;
    Statement stmt = null;
    try {
    line=1;
    Class.forName("com.microsoft.jdbc.sqlserver.SQLServerDriver");
    line=2;
    Connection conn = DriverManager.getConnection("jdbc:microsoft:sqlserver://BSSQL:1433;DataBaseName=Test;User=sa;Password=biesse");
    line=3;
    // Create and execute an SQL statement that returns some data.
    String SQL = "INSERT INTO log VALUES ('" + a.urlCaller + "','" + a.urlCallee + "')";
    line=4;
    stmt = conn.createStatement();
    line=5;
    line=stmt.executeUpdate(SQL);
    line=10;
    catch (Exception e) {
    e.printStackTrace();
    finally {
    if (stmt != null) try { stmt.close(); } catch(Exception e) {}
    File f = new File("c:/prova.txt");
    FileOutputStream fos=new FileOutputStream(f);
    PrintStream ps=new PrintStream(fos);
    ps.println(line);
    ps.println(a.urlCaller);
    ps.println(a.urlCallee);
    fos.close();
    catch ( Exception ex ) {
    return ris;
    The problem is that into the Table no value is written, no problem compiling it and into the file prova.txt I can see only the value line=1 written!
    So there should be something wrong in the connection.
    I've already installed the JDBC drivers for SQL Server 2000 and I've addedd into the libraries the "msbase.jar, the mssqlserver.jar and the msutil.jar".
    But nothjng written into the Database :-(
    Can you help me please?
    Thank you very much in advance,
    Best Regards

    Support for LOB was added in v9.2. It is not supported in 8i.

  • How can I export image column from SQL Server 2000

    Hi everybody,could someone tell me how can I export an entire column( pictures type) to a folder on disk?I've tried the textcopy.exe under the SQL installation's binn folder,it can only export one picture a time,I'm trying to find an automated way to export
    the whole colum's images to a folder,I'm using SQL Server 2000.

    Vishal,thanks for the replay,I've tried the BCP method but it seems does not work on my Sql Server 2000,also the SSIS package method is demonstrated with Sql Server 2008 R2 and my machine does not have the visual application to try it.In the BCP method,I
    got prompt  indicating me that I wrote something wrong in the grammer,and I'm pretty sure that maybe I made something wrong in the below part,the grammer makes me confused

  • How to load decimal values into a file using bcp in SQL Server 2000?

    Hi everyone,
    I'm trying to load data from a database table to a text file using bcp on SQL Server 2000. When I'm loading the decimal values, the values before the decimal are not being loaded into the file. How could I load the values before decimals?
    Here are the DDLs and DMLs of what I'm trying to run:
    CREATE TABLE [dbo].[Product_Sales](
    [Year_of_Sale] [smallint] NOT NULL,
    [Product_Type] [varchar](25) NOT NULL,
    [Product_Group] [varchar](25) NOT NULL,
    [Category_Type] [varchar](25) NOT NULL,
    [Category_Group] [varchar](10) NOT NULL,
    [Product_Count] [bigint] NOT NULL,
    [Product_Amount] [decimal](19, 2) NOT NULL,
    [Category_Count] [bigint] NOT NULL,
    [Category_Amount] [decimal](19, 2) NOT NULL,
    CONSTRAINT [PK_Product_Sales] PRIMARY KEY CLUSTERED
    [Year_of_Sale] ASC,
    [Product_Type] ASC,
    [Product_Group] ASC,
    [Category_Type] ASC,
    [Category_Group] ASC
    ) ON [PRIMARY]
    ) ON [PRIMARY]
    INSERT INTO [Yearly_Sales].[dbo].[Product_Sales]
    VALUES(2010, 'Online', 'Web', 'Cameras', 'Electronics', 547, 0.00, 0, 0.00)
    EXEC [master].[dbo].[xp_cmdshell] 'bcp "SELECT * FROM [Yearly_Sales].[dbo].[Product_Sales]" queryout D:\Yearly_Sales\Product_Sales.dat -c -T -S'
    And the output I see in the file is:
    2010 Online Web Cameras Electronics 547 .00 0 .00
    The values before decimals are being truncated.
    Thanks,
    Bangaaram
    Known is a DROP, Unknown is an OCEAN.

    You can modify the decimal column(s) in the table to varchar type before export. But it does not look good.
    alter table [dbo].[Product_Sales]
    Alter column [Product_Amount] varchar(20)
    alter table [dbo].[Product_Sales]
    Alter column [Category_Amount] varchar(20)
    Does that make any sense?
    Known is a DROP, Unknown is an OCEAN.
    Basically you modify the decimal column to a varchar type before you run the bcp command for export. You can modify your source table or you can modify them on the fly. It is just a workaround.
    Modifying the source wouldn't be a good idea. Never do that if you can't get your desired output.

    IS THERE ANY UTILITY AVAILABLE?

    Not a concern for an Oracle forum.
    Als no need for SHOUTING.
    Conventional solutions are
    - dump the data to a csv file and load it in Mickeysoft SQL server
    - use Oracle Heterogeneous services
    - use Mickeysoft DTS

    It is not valid SQL as far as Oracle SQL is concerned. I assume that the file construct is suppose to replace that with the contents of the file?
    What happens when the file size exceeds the max length of the SQL command?
    And do you have any idea what will happen to the SQL Shared Pool on Oracle that needs to store the entire SQL command for every single SQL command passed to it? The whole purpose of the Shared Pool is for storing shared SQL. Not non-sharable SQL containing hardcoded values.
    Bind variable are to be used.. if you expect Oracle to perform like only Oracle can.
    And my bet is that you have not even bothered to read [url http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/appdev.102/b14249/toc.htm]Oracle® Database Application Developer's Guide - Large Objects guide....

  • MS SQL Server 2000 + JDBC

    Hi everyone,
    I know many of you don't like microsoft products, but I am getting weird errors when i connect my java program to SQL server 2000 with its driver. My code worked FINE with MS Access. The thing is I know there are some bugs to SQL server driver , and somebody knowledgeable with this software could def help me fix the problem, but i searched all over the microsoft site, couldnt find a fix to my problem, and contacting microsoft for help costs between $195-$245. I was wondering if somebody here is familiar with this software. I would really appreciate it if you could email me at [email protected] I will post all of the problem here also.
    I'm getting the following error when i try to create a insert a new function (create a new row) in my database:
    [Microsoft][SQLServer 2000 Driver for JDBC][SQLServer]Incorrect syntax near the keyword 'Function'.
    Here is the relevant code:
    <code>
    try{
    DriverManager.registerDriver(new com.microsoft.jdbc.sqlserver.SQLServerDriver() );
    } catch (Exception e) {
    System.out.println(e.getMessage());
    try{
    Connection con = DriverManager.getConnection("jdbc:microsoft:sqlserver://NJ8650MONDAL", "m", "m");
    con.setAutoCommit(false);
    PreparedStatement insertFvalues = con.prepareStatement("INSERT INTO function_description (Function, Description, Notes) VALUES (?,?,?)");
    insertFvalues.setString(1,functionname);
    insertFvalues.setString(2,descriptionname);
    insertFvalues.setString(3,notesname);
    insertFvalues.execute();
    PreparedStatement insertRvalues = con.prepareStatement("INSERT INTO return_code_description (Function_Name, Return_Codes, Return_Codes_Description) VALUES (?,?,?)");
    insertRvalues.setString(1,functionname);
    insertRvalues.setString(2,rvvaluesname);
    insertRvalues.setString(3,rvdescripname);
    insertRvalues.close();
    con.commit();
    insertFvalues.close();
    insertRvalues.close();
    con.close();
    } catch (SQLException e) {System.out.println(e.getMessage());
    }</code>

    thanks. i fixed that error, so now that portion works. however, i have a question..
    SQL server does not allow comparisons between text fields unless the IS NULL or LIKE operators are used. I'm using JDBC to load exisiting entries from the database and display them in a gui. THe thing is I have one main table, which has a one-to-many relationship with my other tables..so the way i linked them was to have one column in each table hold the same text data, and then i can use the = operator to see if there are matches..
    for example one table (function_description) has the following data:
    Function_Name_Ind Description Notes
    sample blah blah
    And another table (return_code_description)has the following data:
    Function_Name Return_Code Return_Code_Description
    sample x xx
    sample y yy
    And I want all of this displayed.
    i don't know if that explanaiton is any good, but seeing the code below might help you understand..
    <code>
    try{
    Connection con = DriverManager.getConnection("jdbc:microsoft:sqlserver://NJ8650MONDAL", "m", "m");
    con.setAutoCommit(true);
    Statement stmt = con.createStatement();
    ResultSet result = stmt.executeQuery("SELECT * FROM function_description, return_code_description " + "WHERE function_description.Function_Name_Ind = return_code_description.Function_Name AND (((Function_Name_Ind)='"+ functionname + "'))");
    result.next();
    function.setText(result.getString("Function_Name_Ind"));
    description.setText(result.getString("Description"));
    notes.setText(result.getString("Notes"));
    rvalues.setText(result.getString("Return_Codes"));
    rvdescrip.setText(result.getString("Return_Codes_Description"));
    stmt.close();
    con.close();
    } catch (SQLException e) {System.out.println(e.getMessage());
    </code>
    And i'm getting this error.
    [Microsoft][SQLServer 2000 Driver for JDBC][SQLServer]The text, ntext, and image data types cannot be compared or sorted, except when using IS NULL or LIKE operator.
    Can any of you think of another way I can do this? IS there another way in JDBC I can write it?
    thanks!

  • SQL server 2000 with Java Problems

    Dear Sir.
    I am a new user for SQL server 2000 with java. Nevertheless, I developed an application for store images and text data into SQL 2000 database using java. Presently my system is running 12-client computer with one server computer, I installed SQL server 2000 into server then I access (save, insert, select, and get report) through ODBC diver to server using java application, system is ok but some time the server computer is getting struck.
    Please let me know if there is a solution to overcome this problem.
    My client computer configuration
    Windows xp
    1.8 MHz CPU  512  768 RAM
    My Server computer configuration
    3.0 Dual core Intel - 1 GB RAM
    Window 2000 server

    but some time the server computer is getting struck.Can you measure which application is eating up the resources? Anyway, the hardware sounds OK for that number of clients, but of course it depends on the intensity they work with.
    The suspicious part is the ODBC driver. Is there a reason not to use the JDBC driver for SQL server provided by microsoft? I guess it will speed things up.

  • While executing a query in SQL Server 2000

    Hi,
    I am connecting to an SQL Server 2000 using class.forName method...
    and i am reading the data from the queue continuously and execute an INSERT statement to a table..
    but the DBAs have a trigger to perform a set of actions when a new row is inserted into that table...
    once i insert a row, my program waits until those set of actions have been performed instead of just trying to read from the queue and insert another row into the table...i dont want to wait for anything...i just want to insert the data, go back to read the queue and insert more..
    is there any setting that i have to make for this to happen..

    An insert, from the databases point of view is not complete until it is complete. Which means running the triggers.
    So there is no way that any jdbc driver can stop that.
    Perhaps it might help to describe your actual problem which might lead to the suggestion of other solutions.

  • How to retrieve Min(startDate) and Max(endDate) for different groups of data? (sql server 2000)
