Insert XHTML elements inside XML schema

Hi,
My oracle version is 10.2.0.2.0. Following this suggest :
http://forums.oracle.com/forums/thread.jspa?messageID=835251&#835251
I tried to create a schema in this way:

<xs:schema
xmlns:xs="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema"
xmlns:xdb="http://xmlns.oracle.com/xdb"
targetNamespace="http://test.example.it/test"
xmlns="http://test.example.it/test"
elementFormDefault="qualified"
attributeFormDefault="unqualified">

<xs:element name="Project">
<xs:complexType>
<xs:sequence>
<xs:element name="AnnoBando" type="xs:string" xdb:SQLType="CLOB"/>
<xs:element name="AnnoBando2" type="xs:string"/>
</xs:sequence>
</xs:complexType>
</xs:element>
</xs:schema>In this schema only element "AnnoBando" contains XHTML elements, my question is, when I upload my xml document, can I pass directly XHTML elements in this way?
insert into TESTSQLTYPE values ('codice', xmltype('
<Project
xmlns = "http://test.example.it/test"
xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance"
xmlns:xml="http://www.w3.org/XML/1998/namespace"
xsi:schemaLocation = "http://test.example.it/test http://test.example.it/test2.xsd">
<AnnoBando> text bolded text text</AnnoBando>
<AnnoBando2>empty text</AnnoBando2>
</Project>
'))or I should insert html entities of "<" and ">" of the element?
If i try to insert the xml example specified here I get this error:
ORA-31187: Cannot Add Node 'b' (type='element') to Simple Type Node '/Project/Annobando'Thanks for your help.
Stefano

Try these two:
1.
======
<AnnoBando>![CDATA[text <b>bolded text</b> text]]</AnnoBando>
=======
2.
======
<AnnoBando> text &lt;b&gt;bolded text&lt;/b&gt; text</AnnoBando>
=======

Basically, because '<' and '>' are used for element declarations in XML, you cannot include them 'nude' in the element content. The above are two methods of escaping those characters.

and I did checked the recyclebin after force the delete of schema, nothing inside. any other recommendation?

• How to bind data from script created variable to embed element of XML schema (xsd) in "Data View"

Hi, i have got another problem with livecycle designer scripting.
I have got script line which is defining of string variable:
var aaa = "this is my string";
and i have got embed XML schema like this (it`s only short part of whole file):
... xs:element name="bbb" type="xs:string"/ ...
After saving data to XML i would like to get "this is my string" as a value of my "bbb" XML element.
To save this data i`m using submit button which is connect with submit.php file on my server.
How to connect script created variable and embed XML schema element which is present on my "Data View" tab.
Please help me a bit becouse i don`t know even where to search answer of it...
Of course i know possibilities to create fake unvisible text field object and bind it with 'bbb' and than put "this.rawValue = aaa" to connect those two variables but i think that is not a good idea to solve it in that way. It`s too primitive

i solve it, i should write this:
xfa.datasets.data.bbb.value = aaa;

• Unable to find root element in XML Schema when Syndicating (SAP MDM)

Hi experts,
We are having a problem with our Syndication.
We have created an XML Schema using XML Spy. We need a namespace, and this is 70 characters long (in other words, far shorter than maximum at 255 characters).
<xs:schema xmlns:ns="http://schemas.xxxxx.com/ServiceManagement/ServiceMasterDataFromMDM/0.3" xmlns:xs="http://www.xxxxx.org/2001/XMLSchema" targetNamespace="http://schemas.xxxxxx.com/ServiceManagement/ServiceMasterDataFromMDM/0.3" elementFormDefault="unqualified" attributeFormDefault="unqualified">
When opening the xml schema file in Syndicator, the root field is disabled.
If we remove namespace in heading of xml schema, the root field is enabled, and the root element is correct.
How can we make use of the XML schema when we need namespace?
We have tried to add namespace annotation ns: to all type definitions:
<xs:element name="ServiceCategory" type="ns:ServiceCategoryType">
This did not help.
Please advice.

>>We need a namespace, and this is 70 characters long
If you want namespace to appear in XML and your XSD has it too. please add the namespace under "URI" attribute in XML schema in Console.
You need to import the XSD in Console first, specify namespace under URI and then use this to build syndication map.

• Limiting attributes of multiple elements with XML Schema

I am working with a curriculum development group and we are trying to get all of their content into and XML format so that it can be easily displayed by a browser and parsed by our application. For quiz pages we would like to do something like the following:
<question>
<text>Who won superbowl XXXII?</text>
<answer correct="true">Denver Broncos</answer>
<answer correct="false">Green Bay Packers</answer>
<answer correct="false">Dallas Cowboys</answer>
<answer correct="false">Atlanta Falcons</answer>
</question>However, I can't find a way to limit it so that only one answer element within a question element can have a correct attribute with the value of true. Is this possible?
Additionally, if anybody has recommendations for already developed XML based languages for curriculum that they have experience with that would be appreciated.

well, you create 4 sequences where each sequence has a different team winning, and then choice these 4 sequences together. Admittedly, that would be ugly.

• Data Insertion, XML Schema Specifying Element minOccurs="1

An XML schema having an element with attribute minOccurs="1" has been successfully registered. A table was created based on that schema. Inserting data both with and without that element works successfully. Why is this?

The only thing right now, I can think of, is that the database doesn't recognize it as being controlled via / depends on a registered XML Schema. See the FAQ on this forum for examples (See here: How does XML DB handle XML Schema Validation ?

• Problem inserting and querying XML data with a recursive XML schema

Hello,
I'm facing a problem with querying XML data that is valid against a recursive XML Schema. I have got a table category that stores data as binary XML using Oracle 11g Rel 2 on Windows XP. The XML Schema is the following:

</xs:complexType>
</xs:element>
</xs:schema>I registered this schema and created the category table. Then I inserted a new row using the code below:
insert into category_a values
(XMlElement("category",
xmlattributes('categoryAAA' as "id"),
xmlforest ('ma categ' as "name"),
(xmlelement("description", (xmlelement("text", 'find doors blest now whiles favours carriage tailor spacious senses defect threat ope willow please exeunt truest assembly <keyword> staring travels balthasar parts attach enshelter two <emph> inconsiderate ways preventions </emph> preventions clasps better affections comes perish </keyword> lucretia permit street full meddle yond general nature whipp <emph> lowness </emph> grievous pedro')))
The row is successfully inserted as witnessed by the results of row counting. However, I cannot extract data from the table. First, I tried using SqlPlus* which hangs up and quits after a while. I then tried to use SQL Developer, but haven't got any result. Here follow some examples of queries and their results in SQL Developer:
Query 1
select * from category
Result : the whole row is returned
Query 2
select xmlquery('$p/category/description' passing object_value as "p" returning content) from category
Result: "SYS.XMLTYPE"
now I tried to fully respect the nested structure of description element in order to extract the text portion of using this query
Query 3
select xmlquery('$p/category/description/text/keyword/bold/text()' passing object_value as "p" returning content) from category_a
Result: null
and also tried to extract the text portion of element <text> using this query
Query 4
select xmlquery('$p/category/description/text/text()' passing object_value as "p" returning content) from category_a
Result: "SYS.XMLTYPE".
On the other hand, I noticed, from the result of query 1, that the opening tags of elements keyword and bold are encoded as the less than operator "<". This explains why query 3 returns NULL. However, query 4 should display the text content of <text>, which is not the case.
My questions are about
1. How to properly insert the XML data while preserving the tags (especially the opening tag).
2. How to display the data (the text portion of the main Element or of the nested elements).
The problem about question 1 is that it is quite unfeasible to write a unique insert statement because the structure of
is recursive. In other words, if the structure of
was not recursive, it would be possible to embed the elements using the xmlelement function during the insertion.
In fact, I need to insert the content of
from a source table (called category_a) into a target table (+category_b+) automatically .
I filled category_a using the Saxloader utility from an flat XML file that I have generated from a benchmark. The content of
is different from one row to another but it is always valid with regards to the XML Schema. The data is properly inserted as witnessed by the "select * from category_a" instruction (500 row inserted). Besides, the opening tags of the nested elements under
are preserved (no "<"). Then I wrote a PL/SQL procedure in which a cursor extracts the category id and category name into varchar2 variables and description into an XMLtype variable from category_a. When I try to insert the values into a category_b, I get the follwing error:
LSX-00213: only 0 occurrences of particle "text", minimum is 1which tells that the <text> element is absent (actually it is present in the source table).
So, my third question is why are not the tags recognized during the insertion?
Can anyone help please?

Hello,
indded, I was using an old version of Sqlplus* (8.0.60.0.0) because I had a previous installation (oracle 10g XE). Instead, I used the Sqlplus* shipped with the 11g2database (version 11.2.0.1.0). All the queries that I wrote work fine and display the data correctly.
I also used the XMLSERIALIZE function and can now display the description content in SQL Developer.
Thank you very much.
To answer your question Marco, I registered the XML Schema using the following code

begin
dbms_xmlschema.registerSchema('/xmldb/category_auction.xsd', doc,     LOCAL      => FALSE,
GENTYPES => FALSE, GENBEAN => FALSE, GENTABLES => FALSE,
FORCE      => FALSE,
OPTIONS    => DBMS_XMLSCHEMA.REGISTER_BINARYXML,
OWNER      => USER);
end;then, I created the Category table as follows:
CREATE TABLE category_a of XMLType XMLTYPE store AS BINARY XML
XMLSCHEMA "xmldb/category_auction.xsd" ELEMENT "category";Now, there still remains a problem of how to insert the "description" content which I serialized as a CLOB data into another table as XML. To this purpose, I wrote a view over the Category_a table as follows:
CREATE OR REPLACE FORCE VIEW "AUCTION_XWH"."CATEGORY_V" ("CATEGORY_ID", "CNAME", "DESCRIPTION") AS
select category_v."CATEGORY_ID",category_v."CNAME",
XMLSerialize(content ( xmlquery('$p/category/description/*' passing object_value as "p" returning content)) as clob) as "DESCRIPTION"
from  auction.category_a p,
xmltable ('$a/category' passing p.Object_Value as "a"
columns  category_id varchar2(15) path '@id',
cname varchar2(20) path 'name') category_v;Then, I wrote a procedure to insert data into the Category_xwh table (the source and target tables are slightly different: the common elements are just copied wereas new elements are created in the target table). The code of the procedure is the following:
create or replace PROCEDURE I_CATEGORY AS
v_cname VARCHAR2(30);
v_description clob ;
v_category_id VARCHAR2(15);
cursor mycursor is select category_id, cname, description from category_v;
BEGIN
open mycursor;
loop
/*retrieving the columns*/
fetch mycursor into v_category_id, v_cname, v_description ;
exit when mycursor%notfound;
insert into category_xwh values
(XMlElement("category",
xmlattributes(v_category_id as "category_id"),
xmlelement("Hierarchies", xmlelement("ObjHierarchy", xmlelement ("H_Cat"),
xmlelement ("Rollsup",
(xmlelement("all_categories",
xmlattributes('allcategories' as "all_category_id")))
xmlforest (
v_cname as "cat_name",
v_description as "description")
end loop;
commit;
close mycursor;
END I_CATEGORY;When I execute the procedure, I get the following error:
LSX-00201: contents of "description" should be elements onlyso, I just wonder if this is because v_description is considered as plain text and not as XML text, even if its content is XML. Do I need to use a special function to cast the CLOB as XML?
Thanks for your help.

• XML Schema any element

I have a list of schema files and they a number of elements in them. But for my data extraction i use only close to 300 tags. When i register the schema I get an error that a table cannot of have more than 1000 columns. My work mate is working on Annotations and I am planning to build a new schema to make extract only these 300 tag names and also make sure the XML file can be validated like it did earlier. Explaining this i came across a complex type element called *<any>* which can be used to allow elements to be available which are not declared within the schema file.
My Original schema file looks something like below,
<xsd:complexType name="WfInformation">
<xsd:all minOccurs="0">
<xsd:element name="Company" type="WfCompany" minOccurs="0" />
<xsd:element name="HeadOffice" type="WfOffice" minOccurs="0" />
<xsd:element name="IndependentOffice" type="WfIOffice" minOccurs="0" />
<xsd:element name="AffiliateCompany" type ="WfIAOffice" minOccurs="0" />
<xsd:element name="Number" type="xsd:string" minOccurs="0" />
<xsd:element name="ReferenceID" type="xsd:string" minOccurs="0" />
</xsd:all>
</xsd:complexType>
of the above list of items i use only elements Company, HeadOffice, Number. After reading through some documentation I wanted to <any> tag like below,
<xsd:complexType name="WfInformation">
*<xsd:sequence>*
<xsd:element name="Company" type="WfCompany" minOccurs="0" />
<xsd:element name="HeadOffice" type="WfOffice" minOccurs="0" />
*<xsd:any processContents="lax"/>*
*<xsd:any processContents="lax"/>*
<xsd:element name="Number" type="xsd:string" minOccurs="0" />
*<xsd:any processContents="lax"/>*
*</xsd:sequence>*
</xsd:complexType>
My question is if I am correcting the lines as i mentioned above will be Register schema again fail with same reason that i have 1000 columns. As i understand every element inside an Complex element is stored as a column value. In that case will this redesign work. Or is there any other way to approach re-desgin the XML Schema.

Thanks. I think that leaves out my option to create a totally new Schema to suit my XML files.
Only other option we have is to use Annotations.
I think my colleague - eoin62 would have shared the XML Schema files earlier through your oracle email address.
Please refer thread - How to register multiple XSD files
But we received a reply and we knew very little on how to make changes to Admin.xsd and how would that solve our problem. Please correct me if i am incorrect. Because the biggest Schema was estimate.xsd that has close to 800+ elements. I am not sure if my colleague sent you the necessary tag names we use within the Schema. We have close to around 300 tags we use. But our combined XML Schema has close to 1600+ If we have to annotate, i thought it would be better we tell Oracle which tagswe need, which inturn should should help better create XMLtype table against a Schema and work on performance.
Your earlier reply was,
Basically in XML Schema Admin.xsd element AdminCompin WorkfileTypeneeds to be stored Out of line..
Add the annotations xdb:SQLInline=”false” and xdb:defaultTable=”ADMIN_COMP_XML”. to the element..
if you can share with our XML Schema on how to annotate or if you can share a location that shows how an annotated or non-annotated Schema works that would help us correcting our Schema files.
Thanks for all your support. We have gone a long way in XML Parsing in the last 6 weeks.

• XML schema together with XHTML

Hi there,
I have the following situation:
I want to create an XML document that contains 2 parts:
a) a XHTML part (it can be either version 1.0 or 1.1 )
b) a non XHTML part that contains some information about the first part - like the location of that content or some other info on different constituents of the first part
The elements of the second part are defined by an XML schema.
My question is how to do this in an elegant manner?
Should I import somehow (I have no idea how) the XHTML schema on the part 2 schema? Or should I deal only on the instance XML file with this issue (if yes - how)?
Thanks a lot for the help.
Daniel

Download the newest version at http://xml.apache.org
and try again...Unfortunately I'm already using the latest version. It just doesn't seem to work.

• Schema Validation on attributes of an element in XML againt XSD schema

Hi,
I had generated artifact java classes from XSD schema file.Now i am validatiing one sample XML document by using these classes in JAXB.The XML document is validated successfully.but only elements are validated ,but not attributes of that elements.for example ,i am giving wrong element which is not defined inside the schema file,it throws validation error as expected ,whereas validation against wrong attributes of elements in XML it is not working anyway,it does not throw any validation errors,but it should throw validation errors.kindly help me to solve this issue.
Here The sample validation code snippets :
import javax.xml.bind.ValidationEvent;
import javax.xml.bind.ValidationEventHandler;
import javax.xml.bind.ValidationEventLocator;
public class MyEventHandler implements ValidationEventHandler{
public boolean handleEvent(ValidationEvent ve) {
if (ve.getSeverity()==ValidationEvent.FATAL_ERROR ||
ve .getSeverity()==ValidationEvent.ERROR){
ValidationEventLocator locator = ve.getLocator();
//Print message from valdation event
System.out.println("Invalid booking document: "
+ locator.getURL());
System.out.println("Error: " + ve.getMessage());
//Output line and column number
System.out.println("Error at column " +
locator.getColumnNumber() +
", line "
+ locator.getLineNumber());
return true;
Unmarshaller unmarshaller = jc.createUnmarshaller();
unmarshaller.setEventHandler(new MyEventHandler());

Here is my analagous 'strange' behavior. I am jaxb processing and then marshalling generated classes to XML ( following the simple Sun 'PurchaseOrder' example )
1. This works:
<xsd:schema....>
<xsd:complextType name = "myName">
<xsd:attribute name='name1'>
</xsd:complextType>
</xsd:schema>
2. This doesn't:
<xsd:schema....>
<xsd:complextType name = "myName">
<xsd:attribute name='name1'/>
<xsd:attribute name='name2'/>
</xsd:complextType>
</xsd:schema>
That is, using more than one attribute line within this simple complex type causes nothing to be marshalled to XML.
Ideas?

• Inserting a row in a schema-based xml type column

i have problems while inserting a row in a schema-based xml type column

• Specifying Case-Insensitive Element Names in XML Schema

Hope someone knows this!
Is it possible to define an an XML Schema Definition so that Element names in the target XML File can be case insensitive.
At the moment my Parser throws an error if the element names in the XML file do not have the exact same case as the definition in the XML schema.
E.g
In Schema i have:
<xsd:element name="HOSTINVENTORYLINE" type="HostInventoryLineType" maxOccurs="unbounded" minOccurs="0"/>
but in xml file i have
<HostInventoryLine field=""/>
or
<hostinventoryline field=""/>
Does anyone know anyway to get around this, so that the parser accepts the HostInventoryLine element in the xml as an instance of the HOSTINVENTORYLINE element defined in the schema.
Thanks in Advance

You could use substitution groups to handle this. You would need an entry in the schema for each valid capitalization. This won't scale well if you want to be completely case insensitive, but if you only support lower case, upper case, and camel case it should do the trick.

<xs:schema xmlns:xs="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema" elementFormDefault="qualified" attributeFormDefault="unqualified">
<xs:complexType name="HostInventoryLineType">
<xs:sequence>
<xs:element name="an-element" type="xs:string"/>
</xs:sequence>
</xs:complexType>
<xs:element name="HostInventoryLine" type="HostInventoryLineType"/>
<xs:element name="HOSTINVENTORYLINE" type="HostInventoryLineType" substitutionGroup="HostInventoryLine"/>
<xs:element name="hostinventoryline" type="HostInventoryLineType" substitutionGroup="HostInventoryLine"/>

• Inserting an element into an XML document

I am simply looking insert a new element into an existing XML Document using JDOM. Here is my code so far:
public class UserDocumentWriter {
private SAXBuilder builder;
private Document document;
private File file = new File("/path/to/file/users.xml");
private Element rootElement;

builder = new SAXBuilder();
try {
document = builder.build(file);
rootElement = document.getRootElement();
} catch (IOException ioe) {
System.err.println("ERROR: Could not build the XML file.");
} catch (JDOMException jde) {
System.err.println("ERROR: " + file.toString() + " is not well-formed.");
public void addContact(String address, String contact) {
List contactList = null;
Element contactListElement;
Element newContactElement = new Element("contact");
newContactElement.setText(contact);
List rootsChildren = rootElement.getChildren();
Iterator iterator = rootsChildren.iterator();
while (iterator.hasNext()) {
Element e = (Element) iterator.next();
if (e.getAttributeValue("address").equals(address)) {
contactListElement = e.getChild("contactlist");
contactListElement.addContent(newContactElement);
writeDocument(document);
public void writeDocument(Document doc) {
try {
XMLOutputter output = new XMLOutputter();
OutputStream out = new FileOutputStream(file);
output.output(doc, out);
} catch (FileNotFoundException ntfe) {
System.err.println("ERROR: Output file not found.");
} catch (IOException ioe) {
System.err.println("Could not output document changes.");
}However, the problem is, the newly added element will always be appended to the end of the last line, resulting in the following:
<contactlist>
<contact>[email protected]</contact><contact>[email protected]</contact></contactlist>Is there anyway in which I can have the newly added element create it's own line for the purpose of tidy XML? Alternatively is there a better methodology to do the above entirely?

Your question is not very clear.
Do you want to know How to insert an element into an XML document?
Answer: I can see you already know how to do it. You have added the element using addContent()
or do you want to know How to display the XML in a tidy format?
Answer: to view the XML in a properly formatted style you can you the Format class. A very basic way of viewing the XML would be:
* Prints the Document to the specified file.
* @param doc
* @param filename
* @param formatting
public static void printDocToFile(Document doc, String strFileName,
boolean formatting)
XMLOutputter xmlOut = null;
if (!formatting)
xmlOut = new XMLOutputter();
} else
Format prettyFormat = Format.getPrettyFormat();
prettyFormat.setOmitEncoding(false);
prettyFormat.setOmitDeclaration(false);
xmlOut = new XMLOutputter(prettyFormat);
try
if (doc != null)
FileWriter writer = new java.io.FileWriter(strFileName, true);
xmlOut.output(doc, writer);
writer.flush();
writer.close();
} else
System.out.println("Document is null.");
catch (Exception ex)
System.out.println(ex);
}

From the source xml I only need four fields. But they need to be nested three levels in the target xml.
