Anybody had any luck inserting MathType equations into the new Pages?

Michael, VikingOSX gave some good advice, which was to contact us to ask about Yosemite compatibility, but his advice didn't really answer your question -- not directly anyway. So I'll answer your direct question ("Can I insert MT equations into Pages 5.5 documents?"), as well as your implied question ("Is MT compatible with Yosemite?").
Second question first -- yes, MT is compatible with Yosemite. However, like any software, it's impossible for developers and QA personnel to completely reproduce every customer workflow and to test it with all software combinations our customers use. So while we don't anticipate any problems in a Yosemite environment, please let us know if you run into a problem. Please make sure you're using MathType 6.7g though. If you have an earlier version of MT 6.7, upgrading to 6.7g is free. If you have a version of MT earlier than 6.7, there's a fee to upgrade.
First question now -- yes, MT works with Pages 5.5, but sadly not any better than it did with Pages 5.0 through 5.2.2. There are 3 bugs in Pages that affect users of MathType. These 3 Pages bugs and their workarounds (if any) are described fully on our website (links below), but briefly, they are:
You must have MT open before trying to insert new equations or edit old ones.
You can't insert a MT equation into a table with the "Insert MathType Equation" menu command. You must do it with copy & paste, but such an equation cannot be edited later.
You can't insert a MT equation into a text box.
If it seems like using Pages 4.3 would be better than living with these bugs, it's probably on your system, but evidently only if you're not using Yosemite. Look for an "iWork '09" folder inside your Applications folder in Finder. Since you're using Pages 5.5, I conclude you're using Yosemite since AFAIK Pages 5.5 requires it.

    I am drawing up a schedule for my college. I would like to insert formulae into the schedule so that I don't have to keep entering data.
    So, how can I insert the timings of a particular course into one field and get it to show the number of hours in another field beside it. In this case for a whole column labelled course timings and number of hours respectively.
    For example: 2.30pm-4.30pm. How do I get the result of 2 hours in another field by just entering this data?

    Why not read the "iWork Formulas and Functions User Guide" available to every user from the Help menu ?
    If the starting time is in B2, the ending time is in C2

  • Production Variances of semifinished goods in COPA

    Hi,
    We are using Costing based COPA, which is updated at the time of billing.
    The production variances are posted to COPA when the settlement of the production orders are done.
    The production variances if brought within the purview of COPA report (based on sales), the plan vs actuals can be compared. However, in case of actuals, the production variances would appear only to the extent of tha particular product sold (that too, to the extent of qty produced and not qty sold)..
    I have two issues:
    1. Whether system can explode the BOM and bring in the production variances of semi-finished goods into the total production variances, if I drill down only on the Finished product sold. The total actual cost would include the variances of relevant SFG also. Is this possible, if so how?
    2. Whether, by bringing production qty and sales qty, the proportionate prod variances be calculated (total prod var * sales qty / prod qty). This can surely be done by inserting formulae. But is this justified from business point of view?

    Hi Swapvik,
    Issue No.1:
    When you are using only Standard Costing in CO-PC, variances will not get rolled-up to the next level. Only costs get rolled-up. As per your requirement, when you see the report in COPA, when you see the details of FG and you want to see the variances of it's SFG also, this would be possible only if you have activated Material Ledger. If ML is active, variances also get rolled-up along with costs.
    Issue No.2:
    The ultimate purpose of bringing Variances into COPA and making part of them in a report is to consider COGM subject to the variances. Though it is not 100% justified, it gives you the most appropriate analysis compared to where you don't consier the variances at all. If you don't consider variances there, that means, you are considering only COGM and not taking the effect of variances, which will definitely not a correct picture of Profitability.

  • Problems with AppleWorks drawing docs under Snow Leopard

    Since I installed Snow Leopard, I've encountered two major problems:
    (Problem 1) AppleWorks gets corrupted when dragging a picture file (.jpg or .png) from the desktop into a drawing document. Various dialogs (e.g. "Format : Document..." or "Format : Ruler : Settings ..." or "Options : Object Size ...") become uneditable. These dialogs will display blank boxes instead of the given object settings, and nothing can be entered into these boxes. AppleWorks must be shut down and restarted in order to continue work.
    (Problem 2) When a formula (i.e. an equation) has been created in a MathType window, selected and copied, it takes ages to make AppleWorks the active application (spinning rainbow coloured ball appears and keeps spinning for a long while). Thereafter, it takes another century to get the formula appearing in the AppleWorks document when selecting the command "Edit : Paste".
    Everything worked still fine under Leopard; under Snow Leopard it's a desaster.

    I've produced thousands of work sheets for my Maths teachings using the Drawing module of AppleWorks in combination with MathType (Design Science). Now I'm stuck since there is no decent successor of AppleWorks available:
    * iWork doesn't feature a drawing module.
    * EazyDraw doesn't collaborate with MathType (i.e. no OLE; inserted formulae cannot be edited by double-clicking).
    * OpenOffice doesn't collaborate with MathType.
    * Micro$oft Office doesn't feature a drawing module.

    I don't use AppleWorks as much as I used to & I've never had a need to use MathType, but I just tried dragging 3 images - a .png, a .tiff & a .jpg - to a new AppleWorks draw document. I had no problems resizing them using Format > Scale by percent & I had no problems using any of the other dialog boxes you mention.
    Some basic troubleshooting you might try:
    Whenever you do an update, it's a good idea to do two maintenance tasks, one for the system (Repair Permissions) and one for AppleWorks (delete preferences). (Thanks to Barry for this way to format this very common answer.)
    To Repair permissions in 10.4.x, launch Disk Utility, found in the Utilities folder in your Applications folder, click on First Aid, then on Repair Permissions.
    To delete AppleWorks’ preference files, go to HD > Users > Library > Preferences. Find and delete the file com.apple.appleworks.plist. Find and open the folder AppleWorks in this Preferences folder, then delete all of the enclosed files (with the exception of the Button Bar Preferences if you have customized the Button Bars). AppleWorks will recreate the preference files as it needs them. You should do this step anytime AppleWorks crashes or you force quit it.
    The slowness is likely the "Recent Items bug" & it has been around since AppleWorks 6 was released in March, 2000. It can make it appear that AppleWorks has frozen or failed to launch. The user tip by Dale Gillard, AppleWorks slow? Spinning ball appears?, explains a lot.
    Could you send me a copy of one of these worksheets? Perhaps I can see if I can easily duplicate one in Pages/Numbers/Keynote. Even though iWork doesn't have a draw app, all of the apps do have basic drawing capabilities.

  • Unable to remove Workforce Planning formulae in Planning 9.3.1.1.16

    Hi All,
    We are on using Planning 9.3.1.1.16 and are unable to remove member formulae from Planning.
    Our Planning application is EPMA (9.3.1.3) enabled. When refreshing the Planning application we receive the following error:
    Error [1200497] detected in member formula for member "Regular Headcount".
    Error [1200497] detected in member formula for member "Departed Headcount".
    Error [1200497] detected in member formula for member "LOA Headcount".
    Error [1200497] detected in member formula for member "Maternity Headcount".
    Error [1200497] detected in member formula for member "On Sabbatical Headcount".
    Error [1200497] detected in member formula for member "Contractor Headcount".
    Error [1200497] detected in member formula for member "Temporary Headcount".
    Error [1200497] detected in member formula for member "Other Headcount".
    Error [1200497] detected in member formula for member "Turnover Headcount Adjustment".
    Error [1200497] detected in member formula for member "Regular FTE".
    Error [1200497] detected in member formula for member "Contractor FTE".

    STEPS TO REPRODUCE :
    -In EPMA Master Library, remove the formulae for the above members and save the changes every time
    - In Planning remove the member formulae for the above members (EDIT_DIM_ENABLED set to TRUE). This step may not be required however I tested it and was able to reproduce the issue
    - Deploy the EPMA applicatoin. Deployment is successful
    - Refresh Planning app. Refresh is successful
    - Now change any property for any of the above members in EPMA. For example add an alias of Turnover Adj to the "Turnover Adjustment" member and save.
    - Deploy the EPMA app => Successful
    - Refresh Planning app=> Fails with same above error
    Observation: The member formulae are back in Planning not EPMA. It looks like edit workforce members somehow causes the formulae to reappear in Planning.
    Has anyone come across this issue?

    Just in case anyone has a similar issue...
    Thsi was reported as bug #7411035 (ie: Character Limit for Member Formulas ). Details from Oracle Dev below:
    The character limit was 2000 causing longer member formulas to fail during an application deployment. An underlying bug was found during investigation of the member formula limit and we think this is the cause of your particular issue. The problem was with empty member formula string. During the deployment process there are EAS side checks. EAS will only accept a member formula if it contains at least one character(length > 0), else the formula
    field is rejected in the deployment XML file.
    The script below copy the member formula to a different table and then delete the original. So it is quite a destructive query to run.
    Prior to executing the query, a full EPMA/Planning applications backup should be performed (including essbase side) and the EPMA Dimension Server services (particularly the Process Manager) should be stopped.

    I'll be picky here on nomenclature ;-)
    Tables and other Obects can be locked, but Sheets can't be locked.
    If you wish to shield some parts of your content from accidental modification, arrange your layout to put that sensitive content in tables separate from the tables that need to be accessed, and lock the sensitive ones. It's also possible, but rather clunky, to place shields over the sensitive area. A shield can be made by Inserting a Shape and positioning the shape over the sensitive area. With the shape selected, go to the Graphics Inpector and set the Opacity of the shape to zero. You will then be able to see through the shape but will no be able to Click through it to get at the cells below. This method is inconvenient because you have to worry about keeping the shape aligned with the table should the table need to change size or shape.

    Web forms created by FormsCentral do not support any sort of calculations. PDF forms that are used with FormsCentral do support calculations though.

  • CrossTab Insertion Formula

    I have a crosstab table in my report in which I have two calculated members.
    Let say that I have A,B,C,D colums and B and D are calculated members.
    I know how to modify the order of the calculated member through the Insertion formula but I need my columns in the following order:
    A,B,D,C.
    I do not know how to make reference in the insertion formula to a calculated member, so that both of my calculated members are set one next to the other. I am using the following insertion formula and it works for the first calculated member but not the second. This in my formula. Any help will be greatly appreaciated.
    GetColumnGroupIndexOf(CurrentColumnIndex)=1 and GridRowColumnValue("test") = "A"

    My issue is creating a difference percentage formula using summary columns and placing it as a third column.
    In the CrossTab, Region is added to the row (as a group),  the first Summary Column is ACTUAL and second one is TARGET. I just added these two columns to the summary using CrossTab Expert. I want to calculate the Percentage as a third column. The percentage formula I need to use is SUM(ACTUAL-TARGET)/SUM(TARGET) for each region.
    I tried playing with the formulae like I mentioned above. I tried different combinations like aggregation, without SUM, Changing the Summary to Percentage etc.. But I got  wrong percentage values in all cases. Please let me know if you need any more information on this.

  • Is it possible to insert a 'Name' in Pages?

    I am creating a document in Pages, to replace an MS Word document I have previously used.
    It contains 2 tables with formulae based on one set of values. In Word I gave each value a 'name' and used it in the formulae to avoid multiple entires. So far, in Pages, it seems I can only use values in the same table, so I will have to enter the values twice. This makes the document look repetitive.
    Does anyone have the answer?

    Thank you for the details of the issue you are experiencing with creating a formula that references a data in a different table.   To reference the data in the different table, you will just need to click on the cell in the alternate table when building the formula:
    Add, subtract, multiply, or divide values
    You can create simple or complex arithmetic formulas to perform calculations on the values in your tables.
    Click the cell where you want the result to appear, then type the equal sign (=).The formula editor opens. Drag the left side of the formula editor to move it.
    Select a cell to use as the first argument in your formula, or type a value (for example, a number such as 0 or 5.20).
    Type an arithmetic operator (for example, +, -, *, or /), then select a cell to use as the next argument in your formula, or type a value.By default, + is inserted between cell references.
    Continue adding operators and arguments until your formula is complete, then press Return or click in the formula editor when you’re done.If you click , you exit the current cell without saving your changes.
    In step 2, just click the cell from the alternate table to reference that cell in your equation.

  • Can not insert/update data from table which is created from view

    I'm using Oracle database 11g
    I've created table from view as the following command:
    Create table table_new as select * from View_Old
    I can insert/update data into table_new by command line.
    But I can not Insert/update data of table_new by SI Oject Browser tool or Oracle SQL Developer tool .(read only)
    Anybody tell me, what's happend? cause?

    I can insert/update data into table_new by command line.

  • Lock-ups while inserting to a remote database using a dblink

    Our application runs across multiple instances of Oracle 8i - 8.1.6.
    Throughout the day we run some batch processes to transfer data across these instances using dblinks. Ocassionally the process locks up and further investigation shows that the server from which we are pushing information out seems to have executed an insert statement on a remote instance (insert into test_table@tst_dblink select * from local_table) and is waiting for a return from the remote server while the remote instance seems to be hanging too. Oracle does not return any error but simply waits forever for the statement to finish.
    If anybody has experienced this before can you please share any information you may have on 1. how to prevent this from happening or 2. How to make oracle give up on the transaction, roll it back and raise an error?

    Well, certainly we need more info to fix the problem! couple of "system states" on both the machines when the job is hanging would help. couple of "stack trace" of the shadow process will also help. please call local oracle support with the system state and stack trace.
    Sounds like the job is hanging on some resource (lock,enque,latch,io...). oracle doesn't give up for few resources, like waiting on ST,latch, io etc. we have to kill the offending process if we want!!

  • Inserting Dynamic Images in to a Crystal Report 10

    Hi all,
    I am trying to insert dynamic pictures into my report from repository, by getting the path for the picture from database fields. The version that I am using is Crystal Reports 10.
    Here is what I have done.
    I inserted an OLE object into the report, went to "Format Graphics" by right clicking on the OLE object, then to "Hyperlink" Tab (as I didn't see anything other than "Reset" button and picture dimension options under the "Picture" tab), and selected "File" Radio button (as I didn't want to display the picture as Hyperlink) and gave the @Filepath as the formula there. @Filepath is the formula that gives me the complete path for the JPEG that I need to insert in the report.
    filepath = field A + field B
    where field A is the location for the image and field B is the actual image name.
    the actual image is located in repository folder.
    I am not able to see the image in the report "Preview" section as it is showing it has an empty box and when I click on that empty OLE object, I am able to view the image in a separate window where as my requirement is to view the image within the report (not in a separate window).
    I didn't find anything useful under Format Graphics -> Picture tab.

    That feature wasn't available nor was it supported in CR 10. You'll have to upgrade to CR Xi R2 or 2008 to allow using a database field as the location of the file.
    CR 10 would only load the picture when the report is opened, it will never update when clicking on the refresh button.
