Inserting/manipulating PDF in Flex 3 AIR project?

I've read as much as I can find about dropping a PDF into my
Flex 3 AIR project, but the information is scarce and I understand
it's a very new (not fully baked) feature.
Can anyone describe what component to use to drop a PDF into
my AIR project? I need to manipulate the PDF from within AIR and
would prefer not to abstract through the HTML Container object
(e.g. calling JS through the HTML Container object).
Thanks,
Mike

looks like your equipmentArray is empty. Put a breakpoint inside that method to see if there is any data.

  • How to include different Character Sets in Flex AIR project

    Hi All,
    Flex, AIR(Desktop) Project.
    PROBLEM Scenario:
My Application needs a path from Windows registry, So I am launching a .cmd file using Native Process API.
As a result I get a text file with the path.
So, everything works fine(reading/writing), but if the path contains different languages like Korean, Chinese then the READING OPERATION IS FAILED only when I install the application. It works fine while debugging.
(By failing I mean its not getting the characters, its printing some junk values.)
I am using readMultibyte & writeMultibyte APIs, and I am assiging the character set dynamically as per the OS language. (Which is Enslish in current scenario)
    FINDING:
I installed Windows with Korean Language on a system, so now if I build the .exe on this machine then it works fine. So, i guess its not able to get the Korean Character set from the English OS, thats why it failed in earlier case.
Is there any way to include different character sets in a Flex project?
    Regards,
    Mayank

Some loaded SWFs may not be compatible with Flex.  Try making a simpler SWF (like one that just draws a circle where you click) and see if it can be loaded and interacted with.

  • Open PDF with Flex Mobile Project

I want to be able to read PDFs inside a Flex Mobile Project (I'm working with Flash Builder 4.6 and Android and iPad).
I've tried successfully stagewebview to load a pdf from a web server with this:
    webView = new StageWebView();  webView.loadURL("http://<url>/Paper.pdf");  webView.viewPort = new Rectangle(0, 100,this.stage.stageWidth, this.stage.stageHeight); webView.stage = this.stage;
But what I really want it's something more visual. I mean, where you can create a flip book, go to page X, or similar. Something like this: http://devaldi.com/zine/NZ_Tourism_2007.php?ro=flash,html
I've already tried FlexPaper, but Zine doesn't work on Flex Mobile Project.
Do you know if there is something to do this? or how can I do this?
Is there any native-extension or something?
    Thanks in advance

Thanks Keith, I'll have a look at that. In addition to opening a PDF, I want to be able to encode an anchor id in to the open command to jump a specific anchor; I'd concluded that on iOS, until Adobe add decent url-scheme support, that was a no go - so I've been staring down the barrel of converting the .pdf to HTML and tidying up the inevitable issues manually. Here's hoping Print2Flash will help avoid that!

  • Windowed Application for Flex Mobile Project

I have a project intended for both deskotp and mobile, and so I began it as a Flex Mobile project.  I then imported the source into a Flex Air project and everything has been working great--until I added cut and paste functionality using the NativeApplication/NativeWindow model.  On a Mac, because there is a default set of menus, this works just fine, but on a pc, the menu is not present unless you define it.  My top level class is a ViewNavigatorApplication, and I can't for the life of me figure out how to get my NativeWindow NativeMenu built.  I have tried plugging code into creationComplete, initialize, preinitialize, but nothing works.  I also tried putting a WindowedApplication around the ViewNavigatorApplication, but that too failed.
So is there a way to make this work?  While menu support would be nice, I would settle for just shortcut key support.
    Thanks in advance,
    Adrian

Umm, overall it's doable but you may come up against two or three hurdles:
The program may have to run for hoursThat may require keeping the phone handset connected to a charger, especially if the display backlight is configured to be on continuously.
a sample rate of 20Hz from the sensor. You'll have to cross that bridge when you get there, but I suspect that many handsets won't be able to handle receiving, processing and displaying of data every 50 ms.
log the data and produce simple statistics from a session.Keeping all data in memory probably won't be feasible; writing it to the record store may make the program still slower, further limiting the sampling frequency that can be handled.

  • FB3 refuses to launch AIR project now.

I was trying to add a style to a Flex AIR project and it hit a runtime error, so i went to task manager and killed adl.exe like i always do because it doesn't end itself .....but then now I am unable to launch my AIR project anymore. Every time I click the green triangle button, it just launches adl.exe and conhost.exe, but it does NOT launch my project
I need this fixed NOW. the last time this happened, I was in a meeting with my BOSS, and I could not show her my progress becuase flex builder 3 decided to not launch my project for the same exact reasons and symptoms. The way i fixed it before was reinstalling flex builder 3, and I don't want to go through the hassle of redoing all of my settings and plugins again.
I tried right clicking on flas content and say connect to 127.0.0.1 but it just says "The connection could not be established by flash player 10", and it gives the smae message if i click local host as wel.
How do i fix this? It amazes me how adobe expects people to pay for flex builder 3 with problems like this.

    You know what, never mind.
Honestly, this is BS. Flex Builder 3 costs like what 200 dollars ? I got it for free because I'm a student yes but that doesn't excuse FB3 from SUCKING!
this is the THIRD time this has happened to me, where FB3 just refuses to run my air project, and like i said in my first post, the second time was in a meeting with my BOSS! I had to say "Uhh yeah, trust me, it does exist....its just compiling at the moment".
So I had to make myself look like an idiot because somehow Adobe managed to take Eclipse, which works fine for java (I use eclipse with my java projects for my school and I have 0 problems) and somehow make it WORSE!. No code formatting, no TODO or FIXME highlighting, none of the cool features that eclipse includes, and they make it worse by having this BS that if the program crashes it doesn't even try to kill the processes that is still running in the background.
Flex is nice. Flex Builder 3 is the worst IDE experience I have had in my short time as a programmer so far. I would honestly be more productive with notepad or something, but I need Flex Builder 3 due to me using the charting components and I need FB3 to compile them without the ugly watermark.
Eclipse has it right. Everything works out of the box and works as its supposed to. FB3 is an example of how NOT to make an IDE. I have had nothing but problems and bugs with it, but sadly I am required to use it for my job.
So here I am reinstalling FB3 for the fourth time, having to go search out for all of my plugins and reset all my preferences, all just cause I somehow FUBAR'd the flex debugger by having a runtime error....its not like that is the whole point of having a debugger or anything, right?
    <-- Angry.

  • HTTPService problem (ioerror #2032) in flex AIR application

    Hi all,
I am using flex 4.5 Hero Sdk. Flex Builder plugin. Win7x64. Adobe Air 2.5.
I have a flex air project which contains 3 library projects included.
The project uses one of the included libraries for managing HttpService calls to a Tomcat server.
When I use "merge into code" option for building all projects there is no problem. I can both run in Adl and installed application (exe). HttpService calls works fine in both Adl and Air 2.5 runtime.
When I use Rsl option for building all projects I can run-debug in Adl However when I run the installed version (I mean this time running the application not with adl, but with Flex Air 2.5.x version installed in win7x64) this time HttpService calls to the server gives ioerror (Error#2032).
Some information I discovered (may not be related to the problem I stated above)
When using rsl option, "use local RSLs when debugging" option makes the difference. If this option is false, Adl cannot run the application.
I tried -use-network=true compiler option, but not sure if I did everything right while trying.
Shortly I think I need some knowledge for working with RSLs. So, can anybody help me?

  • Interactive medical report with Flex/AIR, XML, U3D and PDF

    Hello,
I am computer science student and during my master thesis I want to program an interactive medical report which should include some 3D models (U3D) and which should provide the following options:
Interactive manipulation of the 3D models
Typing in a structured medical report
Loading of a XML file with additional information
Loading of medical image data (jpg images)
At best, only one pdf file as resulting report
And: A nice user interface (I like the interface elements of Flex...)
I think, the best way is a pdf file which includes all the needed data. The problem is that I don't know exactly what software combination fulfills my requirements... I read some things about Adobe Flex and AIR and the U3D format and I suppose, the great interface builder "Flash Builder 4" might be useful to generate a nice user interface. BUT: I was not able to find out, how to include U3D in Flex/AIR.
Then I found the nice pdf library iText (http://itextpdf.com/examples/index.php?page=chapters) which is able to produce a pdf file from a swf file and to include a U3D-model with an additional JavaScript file for manipulations.
BUT again: If I have a swf flash file with the nice user interface (generated with the Flash Builder), how can I access the U3D model in the final pdf document? Imagine: I click on a "rotate" button in the swf and then the U3D-Model in the pdf should rotate...
Ok, as you can see, it is a complex szenario.
    My questions summarized:
What, in your opinion, is the best technology for my task? Flex? AIR?
How can I import the U3D-models? Should I use PaperVision, Sandy3D or something else?
Is there a way to save user inputs directly in the pdf file, or as new pdf file or as xml file?
What is the best way to produce the user interface? Flashbuilder, or maybe a html container with "normal" html interface elements and then the events communication between JavaScript and ActionScript?
How can I export all the stuff to one pdf document? Should I use iText?
    Best regards,
    Steven

Thanks for making my point - perfect is the enemy of good.  We tolerate less capable, less perfect system that are in place now, because of the false expectation that it should be perfect.  Incremental improvements are rejected, because they are not perfect.  Even an imperfect algorithm can find 'Broken' as a common thread in your example, and highlight them for the clinician to evaluate their impact on the current treatment.  This no less likely to miss the connection than a clinician trying to scan through handwritten notes, in the 5 - 10 minutes he/she has to interact with the patient and determine what to do.
Because of legal concerns, incremental but imperfect improvements don't get implemented, so nothing ever moves forward.  Imagine if after the Wright Brothers first flight, no improvements were considered acceptable unless they completely eliminated the risk of failure - there wouldn't be any airlines to go bankrupt today!
For the most part, IT has focused on activities where 'perfect' is achievable.  Accounting in its various forms have been the primary focus of most IT systems.  In that area, the vocabulary is very limited, well defined, and consistent.  A debit is always a debit, and a credit is always a credit.  Medicine is completely different. It is much larger in scope, poorly defined, the vocabularies are mostly non-existent, and where they exist are incomplete and inconsistent.  Despite the huge leaps forward in the last century, there is still more unknown than known about how and why the body works.  This environment makes most individuals trained in IT uncomfortable.  Until we learn how to deal with 'fuzzy', Healthcare IT is going to be limited to the billing and collection functions that it mostly accomplishes today.

  • How do I insert a pdf file (image) into a project as a picture-in-picture clip that will run for a specified amount of time?

I want to insert a pdf created from a ppt slide into a FCP X project that will run as a PIP for a specified amount of time. I was successful in bringing the image into the project as a clip but the default for the image is one second. When I try to change duration of the clip, I am able to enter a new time length but the actual clip doesn't change.

You select the PDF image in the timeline. You use Control-D and enter the new duration. What happens?

  • Overlaying adobe air sdk 13 for flex mobile project gives me error

After overlaying adobe air sdk in flash builder 4.6 i am getting this error in my flex mobile project "Could not resolve <s:ViewNavigatorApplication> to a component implementation.". I have followed the steps mentioned on adobe site. Can anyone please suggest me what i need to do in order to get this work.

You are probably missing the updated flash debug player that describes all the new methods to the application.
There is a good walkthrough of how to upgrade flash builder to a new library version, this is described in the first video of hsharma's starling tutorials.
Its very annoying though, i wish adobe would really build in a feature like this to update libraries.

  • Create Air Project from Existing Flex web project

LaunchPad rocks!  Love the whole concept of using Air apps to supplement the Eclipse-based IDE.
Often I have a need for two versions of the same app in Flash Builder: One web project and one desktop project.  It would be great if you can point to an existing Flex web project, and use LaunchPad to create the new air version.
Anyway, PLEASE keep expanding your vision!  One day I would love to see a 100% Air app for building Air apps and scrap Eclipse! OK, maybe a little out of scope.
    Nice work!

Turn the body of your application into a component and embed an instance of that component in both a Flex and an AIR application.
    1. Create a new Library project
    2. Set the Library path (e.g. external library references) for the new library project so the match the original project
    3. Copy the /src/ from the original project to the new library project
    4. Copy the original project's main mxml file to the library src/. Name it as a component (e.g. MyProjectBody)
    5. modify the copied mxml file by replacing the <Application>  with <Canvas> elements and removing application-specific stuff
    6. compile the new library
    7. add the new library to the original project's Library Path
    8. Modify the original project's main mxml file by _removing_ everything inside the <Application> tags and removing the attributes that set event handlers, etc.
    9. Add an instance of the new library's component MyProjectBody (see step 4)
    10. Create a new AIR project
    11. add the new library to the original project's Library Path
    12. Add an instance of the new library's component MyProjectBody (see step 4) to the <WindowedApplication> tag
You can do fun things like create a standard I/O interface and have web and desktop-specific implementations so your main code does not know if it is running in a browser or not.
Desktop drag-and-drop will fire normal DragEvent, etc., but with different payloads. You can have code in the library that handles both kinds of dropping.\

  • PDF Not loading anymore on Flex Air Application

    Hi,
Ever since I updated my Adobe Readed to Version 11, I can't view any PDF on my Flex Air Application anymore. Is there anything i need to do?
    AIR version: 3.6
    OS: Mac OS X
    Flex Builder: 4.6
    Adobe Reader: 11.0.02
    Flex components used: mx:HTML
    Please help.
    Thanks!

Yes.  This is a well known bug in Air/Google Maps.  A lot of folks reported it on the Google Maps forums and here.  It was reported over a year ago with no action yet.  Major show stopper.
For this main reason, I switched to the http://developer.mapquest.com AS3 API.  Plus they also recently released a Mobile Flash API that works great.
I suggest you check it out because I don't anticipate any action on this issue on either side any time soon.
    Good luck!

  • AIR app and Flex app in same Flex builder project

    Hi,
I've developed a flex app with a lot of custom components.
Now I want to create a desktop version of the same using the same
exact same components. Is it possible that I add an mxml
application, make it a WindowedApplication and compile it to
produce an AIR app? Or are there any workarounds to accomplish
    this.

Easiest way I have found is to complete your Flex Web app.
Then create a new Flex AIR app and then copy code from your working
    Flex Web app over.
Yes, you end up with two complete sets of code, but if that
is going to become an issue with keeping both versions up to date
you can simply use one set of source.
To do this, create two projects, one Web, one Air. Then you
can create a third folder (not project) that contains all the
    common code.
In each of your projects, simply import the code you want to
    use using the project options.
No, not ideal, but does work. Would be nice to see Flex
Builder changed so you can have rooted projects.
E.g. A project called "MyBigApplication" that isn't targetted
at any platform. Within this you could then produce sub-projects
that target a particular platform, be it web or air but share code.
    Maybe in the next version.....
    Cheers

  • Is it possible to display a native pdf document in AIR?

I'm not that familiar with AIR but i was wondering if it's possible to display a native pdf document in AIR.  If so are any add-on's required or does AIR have that capability built in.  Essentially I would be trying to create a pdf viewer in that allows users to markup documents and save them to the server for others to view.  I'm just in the discovery phase of this project, so any guidance would be great.
    Thanks!

You might want to go through http://livedocs.adobe.com/flex/3/langref/flash/html/HTMLLoader.html
Create a file  url for the pdf you would like to load & open it up in HTMLLoader component.

  • How do I use Embed with an environment variable in an Actionscript AIR project Flash Builder 4.7

I am using Flash Builder 4.7 to build an Actionscript AIR project.  The project embeds a number of png files from my local directory and I have been using absolute paths which all works fine.
I have a laptop with which I want to start developing the same project - I set up a git repository that both the laptop and main pc can pull from and so I can get the source where I need it and push it back to the central repository.
My problem is that the absolute paths for the embed commands don't work on the laptop as it has a different filesystem setup (Windows 8 with one drive as opposed to Windows 7 with a SSD and a data drive).  I thought the solution would be as easy as using an environment variable to specify the path which could then point to a different physical directory on both machines, i.e:
    [Embed(source = "DEVELOPER_RESOURCES/graphics/are/here.png"]
I did a bit of research and there was quite a lot mentioned about setting up resource directories using path variables which I worked through but I just can't get it to compile.  The Actionscript compiler just won't find the png files however I specify the path.  I tried something with a FLEX project and the compiler didn't complain but I think this is because the compiler for FLEX uses a different convention.
[Embed(source ="/Project Name/DEVELOPER_RESOURCES/graphics/are/here.png"]  works with FLEX but not Actionscript.
So does anyone have a recipe for using the Embed command referencing assets using an environment variable that works across multiple machines with different file structures?

I managed to find a solution on Windows which was to use symlinks and absolute paths.  You an basically point one directory to another so I did something like:
    mklink c:\developer_resources c:/the/local/path/to/my/resources
and then reference all resources as c:\developer_resources\...
Now as long as a developer machine has the right link (from c:\developer_resources to the place where the resources are kept) then it seems to work.
This doesn't however work for Mac and certainly isn't a solution for passing files between Mac and windows

  • Can't convert Flex Mobile project to desktop project

I'm using the Flash Builder 4.6 trial, and I'm very new to flex development. I've been asked to convert an existing Flex Mobile project (appears to have been developed in Flash Builder 4.5) into an AIR desktop app.
The project imported without complaint. However, the Add/Change Project Type > Convert to Flex Desktop Project menu item is disabled.
I created a blank Flex Mobile project, then a blank Flex web project, then a blank ActionScript project. It's greyed out for those, too. I checked with the projects closed and open; the rest of the items on that submenu are enabled for all projects when closed.
Is this feature disabled in the trial version?  Is something else going on?

Clearly the device from verizon works, I would try to contact a computer tech to repair your computer
Really it should be as simple as turn on, connect, go. If it isn't there is a break down somewhere in that computer
