How do I insert a pdf file (image) into a project as a picture-in-picture clip that will run for a specified amount of time?

I want to insert a pdf created from a ppt slide into a FCP X project that will run as a PIP for a specified amount of time. I was successful in bringing the image into the project as a clip but the default for the image is one second. When I try to change duration of the clip, I am able to enter a new time length but the actual clip doesn't change.

You select the PDF image in the timeline. You use Control-D and enter the new duration. What happens?

There are a Couple of methods you can use for this.
Method 1 -
You can create an ini file and save a boolean Key "First Instance" as True. Now In your Program you read this Key, If it is True then you can show your ID Dialog VI.If False do not run the VI. At the Conclusion of Id Dialog you can update this registry enrty to False. So In effect you have created One time Event. In fact you can save ID as another Config entry.
The Drawback and advantage is that such an INI file can be edited by someone moderately knowledgeable about the Program
Method 2
Use Unitialized Shift Register in A while Loop. Please see LV2 style Globals entry under this forum. You can read and write to this Variable and it retains the Value it last had within it.
You can read
this Global the Very first time and say if it true you display your ID Vi. If False you dont. When you display your ID Vi you can Update your Global Like Before.

Well, I guess the only full proof way is to create a custom "Z" table which will hold the counter, in your program you would update this table every time the program runs. In this same program before updating the counter, you would retrieve the counter and check if it is = 2, if so, then write a message and RETURN.

I am testing Elements 8 and would like to, for example, take an eagle from one image and insert it into another. I've done this with other editing programs, but can't see how to do it here. If one is to use layers, then I have another problem. How does one open layers from more than one image in the palettes?

You can only view the layers of one image at a time. I believe E8's default setting is a maximized setting which allows for only one image in the workspace. If you change the setting in the menu to Cascade, you can have several images open in your workspace. I believe, that's under Window<Arrange. The layer's palette will display whichever image is currently selected.
There are several ways to do it. Here are a couple...
Copy/Paste...
One way is to select the eagle with a selection tool...magnetic lasso whatever...then copy the eagle into your clipboard. Edit<copy. (Shortcut = Ctrl + C on PC; Cmd + C on Mac).
Open the second image then paste. (Shortcut = on PC Ctrl + V; on Mac Cmd + V). This will add the eagle to the current image. Use the move tool to position the eagle.
Drag/Drop...
Alternately, change window<Arrange in the menu bar to Cascade. This will allow you to have more than one image in your workspace.
Open both images. Select eagle with a selection tool. Once selected, switch to the move tool. Drag eagle into second image.
Alternately, you could also lift the eagle to it's own layer then drag it over using the move tool. Release the mouse button when you are over the second image to drop the eagle. (Shortcut to lift selected eagle from the background to it's own layer = on PC Ctrl + J; on Mac = Cmd + J.)
Note: Both images should be the same or close to same resolution. The image that is dragged will adjust (resize) to match the background image resolution. (Low resolution images dragged into high resolution images are tiny whereas high resolution images dragged into low resolution images would be huge).

How to execute a frame of a flat sequence structure for a specified amount of time?

I have a timed loop measuring a resistance value every 2 seconds. I would like to have this timed loop execute for a specified amount of time (e.g. 5 minutes). The timed loop itself is placed within a flat sequence structure so I am concerned that the measurement will be taken once and the next frame will begin to execute, without waiting 2 seconds for a successive reading (and not looping for, say, 5 minutes).
In other words, is it possible to have a frame of a flat sequence structure execute for a specified amount of time before moving onto the next frame?

All code in one sequence frame must complete before the next frame can execute. So as long as your timed loop is setup correctly, the next frame cannot run until your 5 minutes is up (N = 5 minutes/2 seconds/measurement = 150 measurements).

Looking for assistance, on how do you insert a pdf file in an outgoing email on iphone5, I have adobe and dropbox I can open a pdf file and send it from their respective apps but when I create a new email or reply or forward I want to be able to go get the pdf file and attach it to the email. Have not been able to find how to do this.

Thanks for responding. For my work I have manuals, certifications or other regulatory docs that I have uploaded either to dropbox or adobe reader apps on my phone because I travel I find more often that I get request for these documents on an email chain and need to add a pdf to it. It seems I have to start a new email from the app the pdf is in as you stated. This defeats the purpose of responding or forwarding. very frustrating and not very professional. Is their an app out there that may help with this situation.

In other words, the above is the strongest security that Acrobat XI Pro has to offer by way of encryption. But just how secure is this strongest security? Any of the experts here care to give a lay person a feel for the level of security in case the encrypted pdf file gets in the wrong hands?

It would be very hard (take a very long average amount of time) to crack the security with that password and encryption level, but both the "document open" and "change security" passwords should have the same high level of strength since both can be used to open the document. Be sure to use passwords that aren't susceptible to dictionary attacks.

I have a small image in a file (already converted to .pict format) and I would like to add this image as a PICT resource into an existing .r file in an xcode project. Is there a utility somewhere that will convert the image to the ascii hex format that's required for the .r file?

Thanks, but derez will not work in my case. The image in question is not in a resource fork. The image is in the data fork of a .pict file (originally converted from a .jpg file).
The reason I need this is because I already have a complete application which makes a call to GetPicture() to obtain an image that is already located in a .r file as a resource 'PICT' { ... } . All I want to do is to replace existing image in the .r file with my new one. That's why I would like to convert my image into the ascii hex format required.
I figure it must be something simple, but I haven't been able to find a tool to do this.

How to write data to the DAQ for a specified length of time while still reading the input data?

I'm using labview 2012 and am trying to turn on a signal for a specified length of time in labview at the press of a button. The signal goes into an AO (PXI 6723) through my system, where the voltage gets divided by 2, the read in through the AI (PXI 6225). I want to write and read voltage constantly and then have a spike of voltage after pressing a button in LabView while still reading the voltage value for the specified amount of time.
Parameters:
constant voltage of 1 volt to Analog output (reading and writing) seen through a waveform chart.
for 1 second, turn on 3 volts and see the response on the waveform chart.
My specified delay time does not match the elapsed time. I am having difficulties doing this. I have attached the VI.
( I can't upload a functional VI since it shows "the contents of the attachment doesn't match its file type") How can I attach the VI?.

Thank you for your reply! I greatly appreciate it. I currently don't have any DAQmx timing in my application. I tried using it and, without really understanding how it works nor how to manipulate it, the whole test end up taking a long time to change the values i.e. too slow.
The DAQmx timing I used was the sample clock since it was for analog signals, but I don't really understand the buffer, what that means nor how to use it. inputting a rate time for it also made my test slower. The rate time is the samples per channel per second, but I'm not sure how to determine a number so that I am collecting the data I need and take into account aliasing.
I know the PXI 6225 has the capability to read 250kS/s (which I am assuming it's kilosamples per second or 250,000 samples per second). I am using 32 differential channels. I have read that I have to divide the maximum sample rate by the number of channels, (250kS/s / channels) but I don't know if I should count the number of total channels (64) or differential channels(32). In other words, is the per-channel maximum rate:
250,000/32 = 7,812.5 samples per channel per second, or
250,000/64 =3,906.25 samples per channel per second
Furthermore, If I know the number of samples per channel per second, how can I implement that knowledge to the DAQmx sample clock so that my sampling is as fast and as accurate as it can be?
I attached an image of my DAQmx functions in my code, I merged all the stacked sequence structures in paint so you can see them.
