Inserting more data records at a time to a portaldatabase
Dear SDN's,
I am working with sql server on JAVA side i.e., as a portal web database.
I want to insert a level of some 100 records at a time to a database.
what is the best way of inserting other than entering all the values manually/using a insert program.
Is there anyway of uploading a data from txt file/Excel to portal database.
your help will be appriciated.
Regards,
Sireesha.
Hello Sireesh,
I am not sure if you are referring to the importing of user details .If that is the case ,then it is possible by using a text file in which you can enter everything
at a time and do a single import of the file.Pls revert in case of any clarifications on this.

Revaluate data record at the time of loading from flat file or BI Cube
Hello Friends,
I want to revaluate a data record at time of loading using Transformation or Conversion File, based on some condition.
Like, I have a rule to identify that a record is supposed to be multiplied by -1 or not.
For example,
*if (ID(1:5) = str(00070) then(Record-1)
ID(1:5) = str(00071) then (Record-2)
Can you please guide me how can I achieve this by using Transformation file or Conversion file?
Regards,
Vishal.Hi Nilanjan,
Thanks for reply.
I tried the script you suggested in conversion file for Account.
But It is not working for me.
Even I tried simple multiplication and also addition in Formula column it is not working.
External --> *
Internal --> *
Formula ---> Value * -1
Above conversion file for Account was not working for me.
then I tried
Formula --> Value + 100
It also did not work for me.
Kindly suggest if I am doing anything wrong in above file.
Thanks,
Nilanjan. -
Using DECODE() to insert to DATE field
I'm trying to use the DECODE function to test for NULL before inserting to a DATE field. However, it seems to only insert the DATE, with a "default" time of 12:00 - it isn't properly inserting the time.
Basically I need to test if Date1 is NULL. If it isn't I need to concatenate the DATE from Date1 with the TIME from Date2 to get a full date/time... then insert this new value.
Generic Example:
CREATE TABLE DATETEST (TestID NUMBER(1), TestDate DATE);
DECLARE
v_Date1 DATE;
v_Date2 DATE;
BEGIN
v_Date1 := TO_DATE('01-JAN-11 05:53:12', 'DD-MON-YY HH:MI:SS');
v_Date2 := TO_DATE('08-FEB-11 02:18:31', 'DD-MON-YY HH:MI:SS');
INSERT INTO DATETEST (TestID, TestDate) VALUES ('1', DECODE(v_Date1, NULL, NULL, TO_DATE(To_Char(v_Date1, 'DD-MON-YY') || ' ' || TO_CHAR(v_Date2, 'HH:MI:SS'),'DD-MON-YY HH:MI:SS')));
INSERT INTO DATETEST (TestID, TestDate) VALUES ('2', TO_DATE(To_Char(v_Date1, 'DD-MON-YY') || ' ' || TO_CHAR(v_Date2, 'HH:MI:SS'),'DD-MON-YY HH:MI:SS'));
END;
SELECT TestID, TO_CHAR(TestDate, 'DD-MON-YY HH:MI:SS') from DATETEST;
This example performs two inserts. One with the DECODE function, and one without. The one without inserts the time properly. Can anyone tell me why the one with the DECODE function doesn't? I realize I can use a simple if/then to check if the date is null above and put the date/time in a variable, but since my real scenario is in a large chunk of other stuff, I'm trying to keep it as streamlined as possible.
Edited by: BoredBillJ on Jul 14, 2011 6:39 AMThe problem you are having is due to the nature of how DECODE and CASE determine what datatype to return, and you nls_date_format settings. Both use the data type of the first returnable argument to determine all of them. So, in your decode statement, the first returnable value is NULL which, in the absence of a cast (either implicit or explicit), is a varchar2 column. So, if the date is not null, the implicit conversion to a varchar to match the retunr type, then back to date to insert into the table is losing the time. you need something more like:
INSERT INTO test_date (Test_ID, TestDate)
VALUES ('1', DECODE(v_Date1, NULL, TO_DATE(NULL),
TO_DATE(To_Char(v_Date1, 'DD-MON-YY') || ' ' ||
TO_CHAR(v_Date2, 'HH:MI:SS'),'DD-MON-YY HH:MI:SS')));Even if you use Solomon's method of generating the date, if you need the decode/case, then you will have to either use the TO_DATE(NULL) or use case instead of decode and reverse the test so the first returnable is a date like:
SQL> DECLARE
2 v_Date1 DATE;
3 v_Date2 DATE;
4 BEGIN
5 v_Date1 := TO_DATE('01-JAN-11 05:53:12', 'DD-MON-YY HH:MI:SS');
6 v_Date2 := TO_DATE('08-FEB-11 02:18:31', 'DD-MON-YY HH:MI:SS');
7 INSERT INTO test_date (Test_ID, TestDate)
8 VALUES ('1', CASE WHEN v_date1 IS NOT NULL
9 THEN TO_DATE(To_Char(v_Date1, 'DD-MON-YY') || ' ' ||
10 TO_CHAR(v_Date2, 'HH:MI:SS'),'DD-MON-YY HH:MI:SS')
11 ELSE NULL END);
12 INSERT INTO test_date (Test_ID, TestDate)
13 VALUES ('2', TO_DATE(To_Char(v_Date1, 'DD-MON-YY') || ' ' ||
14 TO_CHAR(v_Date2, 'HH:MI:SS'),'DD-MON-YY HH:MI:SS'));
15 END;
16 /
PL/SQL procedure successfully completed.
SQL> select test_id, to_char(testdate, 'dd-mon-yyyy hh24:mi:ss')

Some times it comes under data level part as well at that time we will just rerun
the Attribute change run and then restart the infopackage.

How to Insert more than one record at a time- with fixed set of values in one field
Can someone guide as to how to insert multiple records at a time using ASP VBScript in Dreamweaver CS4 or ADDT.
If someone can guide then the exact problem is given below.
I have a MS access database with one table. The table has three fields. The first field is an autonumber field for ID number.
The second field contains string values- One out of 7 predefined values. One set of records consists of 7 records containing all the seven types of predefined values in fields no 1.
The third field is a numeric field and can contain integers.
I want that the user can enter data for the table using an ASP form in such a way that he enters one set of records at a time in one single screen. This way he will not have to remember that he has /has not entered all the seven set of values for the field no 1.
I am not creating fields with the 7 types of field1value as their names as it will increase the number of fields drastically.
Please help for dreamweaver ASP VBScript.I have successfully inserted seven records in one form submit operation by looping through the command object execute method.
However, the data that is being inserted by the command object is repetition of the first record and the command object is not taking any data from the text boxes for the second record onwards. In this I had used the isert record behavious generated by DW CS4 and modified it to suit my requirement. However, the data inserted in the first row is getting repeated in all the seven rows.
Please help.
Also advise if there are any free dreamweaver server side validation extensions available. -

Insert more then one record on a Form in a Data Block
Hi,
How can I Insert more then one record in the DataBlock of a Form in a WHEN_BUTTON_PRESSED trigger. In the Trigger I have given "commit" but it just saves the record once regardlessly how many times you press the button.
Thanks in advance
KhawarHi,
You said
"**In the Trigger I have given (commit) but it just saves the record once regardlessly how many times you press the button.**"
I think u want to batch mode insertion if m not wrong?
1- Use Insert statment instead of commit and then next record.
Begin
Insert into <table> values (:Blk.Val1,:Blk.Val2,:Blk.Val3,:Blk.Val4);
Create_record;
End;
2-Use another object say button for commit record.
Acknowledege me

Reading long text for more records at a time
Hi all,
We have a requirement for which that data like textid textname textobject and language must be taken in to an internal table and for each record in the internal table i have to read the long text inorder to compare the long text for the given search text.
If i use Read_text inside the loop and endloop it works but it may not be appropriate in performance point of view.
Is there any function module which can read long texts for more records at a time.
The long text data in STXL will be in raw data format right? is there any way to convert raw data to normal so that by hitting the STXL i can read the long text data for more than one record at a time.
Thanks in advance
sanju.HI Sanju,
Below is a code snippet which describes reading a long text frm the screen and appending it into the internal table.This code is actually to read the text from the screen and inserting a record into STXl and STXH.
From your query what i understood is that you are storing the long text from the screen into a internal table and so you not want to use the read_text FM due to performance issue.
Since tdline(tline table) is 132 char long format i use this small logic to read the screen data and append it to my internal table.
*Data Declarations
DATA: lv_strlen TYPE i,
lv_create TYPE boolean,
lv_desc TYPE string.
DATA: ls_text TYPE tline,
ls_basic_text TYPE stxh.
DATA: lt_text TYPE ztty_tline_tab.
CONSTANTS:
lc_tdid TYPE thead-tdid VALUE 'Z001',
lc_tdobject TYPE thead-tdobject VALUE 'Z_ALERTS'.
*Appending the text to the internal table.
lv_strlen = STRLEN( iv_alert_text-alert_text ).
lv_desc = iv_alert_text-alert_text.
IF lv_strlen < 132.
ls_text-tdformat = '*'.
ls_text-tdline = lv_desc.
APPEND ls_text TO lt_text.
ELSE.
*logic to wrap text
DO.
ls_text-tdformat = '*'.
IF STRLEN( lv_desc ) < 132.
ls_text-tdformat = '*'.
ls_text-tdline = lv_desc.
APPEND ls_text TO lt_text.
EXIT.
ENDIF.
IF lv_desc+132(1) <> ' '.
CONCATENATE lv_desc(131) '-' INTO ls_text-tdline.
lv_desc = lv_desc+131.
ELSE.
ls_text-tdformat = '*'.
ls_text-tdline = lv_desc(132).
lv_desc = lv_desc+132.
ENDIF.
APPEND ls_text TO lt_text.
ENDDO.
ENDIF.
Please award graciously if found helpful.Please do ask me if i have not answered you properly.
Thank you.

Master_detail for more than one record at a time
Hi,
How can i display master_detail records for more than one records at a time, for example, i have two tables A and B , A has username and role and B has username and profile. here i wanted to display 10 users at a time on my 6i form with username, role and profile.
i have created a master-detail relation ship with these tables when i'm executing F8 on blcok A , it displays 10 records on BlockA but, only one at a time on block B, how can i display all corresponding records on block B at a time.
Thanks for your help.BcjThanks Roberts, that was realy informative due to some doubts i would like to confirm my requirements , i have two blocks A and B and each master record has only one detail record. but i wanted to display at least 10 master_detail relationships(records) on the form at a time, i would like to know is it possible to do without creating any table or view for example,
data in table A,
username role
AAA R1
BBB R2
CCC R3
data in table B,
username profile
AAA P1
BBB P2
CCC P3
i wanted to display it on form like below,
username role profile
AAA R1 P1
BBB R2 P2
CCC R3 P3
Also would like to know that how can i select data from dba_users, any restriction is there on forms 6i, i can select it on sqlplus.
Thanks Again, Bcj -
How to save more than 2 records at a time in tabular form?
I have a table name SAMPLE_TABLE, which has SNO,NAME items and one sequence name is SEQ_SAMPLE.
i have one form based on SAMPLE_TABLE. my form is in tabular format, which has 5 records.
in the layout wizard only NAME is displayed. SNO doesnot displayed.
in the layout wizard, there is one push button named as SAVE.
the code of SAVE button(When_Button_Pressed) is
insert into sample_table values(seq_sample.nextval,:sample_table.name);
clear_record;
commit;
my problem is :
when ever i want to save one record at a time there is no problem.
if i want to save more than 2 records at a time then sequence number is alloted for last record. other records have no sequence numbers.
for example i want to insert 2 names as XYZ,PQR then
the table look like this:
sno name
1 PQR
XYZ
if SNO is primary key then it doesnot work because of null value.
can any one solve my problem?
Thanks
MeegadaIs the block a database block or a control block,
1. if database block, assign the primary key on a
trigger like new record instance for each record
enteredour's is a control block, ididnt get your point clearly
could you make it clear how to assign a primary key on a trigger
our criteria is we are having two block as lov_values and lov_name
lov_values:
lov_values_id (sequence generated)
lov_id will be same for the all the values for a particular lov_name
lov_values will be which we enter in the form which will be the only visuble colums on the form
lov_name block:
lov_name
lov_id(sequence generated)
could you help me with the code

Unable to insert more than 9 rows at a time
Hi there,
I have to insert more than 5000 rows in my table at a time,but i am not able to insert more than 10 ROWS AT ATIME.
Do we need to do some that at the data base level for this to happen??????

Hi,
I have come across the following error.
Data record with Time interval error and data is getting loaded into data target and no PSA in between.
thanks
krisHi Kris,
Could you please explain your problem little bit more. I mean what is source and target, or you using IP or DTP.
goto the details in monitor tab, you will come to know to which record yo uhave error.
If you are running IP, it is recommended to keep PSA.

Insert current date in ASP date/time field
I am trying to create an INSERT record in a database with a
field for the current date. I cannot fimd how to insert the date in
the field by using a default entry or SQL statement. How can I do
this using Dreamweaver for ASP pages? Thanks, JoeFor database server time, use GETDATE or CURRENT_TIMESTAMP in
your query.
For web server time, pass the value from Date() or Now().
