Inserting single quotation ( ' ) character in Database?

Hi all,
I know this is very primary question. But I am not able to insert a ' (single quote) in the databaes using INSERT statement
Can you please let me know how should I do it?

Well, as strange as it may look, a single quote can be escaped with another quote, so, to insert a single quote, do:
insert into my_tab values ('''');
So, you're looking at that, thinking four quotes?? What the heck....?
The first quote delimits the start of the string literal. The second quote escapes the third quote which is the quote that you're inserting, and the fourth quote delimits the end of the string literal.

How to insert chinese or Japanese character into database

Hi,
Can any one please let me know how to insert chinese character to database.
We tried to insert some chinese character by copying but the characters are showing different while selecting from the database.
Should we install any font or something into database server for getting the character???

If your NLS_NCHAR_CHARACTERSET is set as AL16UTF16, then you can create a table with datatype NCHAR or NVARCHAR in the same instance and will be able to store foreign characters provided your client termional is configured to enter chinese characters.

Use {code} tags to post formatted code on the forum.
That way, your code will be more readable for everyone, and more importantly here, everyone will be able to clearly see what's bothering you :
'sThe single quote was encoded with the character entity reference "&apos;".
The conversion is not mandatory but it happens Oracle is doing it in this case.
It shouldn't be a problem though.
If you want to extract the value afterwards, it'll come as expected :

JDBC insert single quote ???

Hi,
I want to insert a string which could contain a single quote ( ' ) into my database . But if this is the case, the regular insert command fails, since the single quote from the string collides with the ones from the command. What can I do???

Try placing an escape char "\".
So its like:
String s="Sachin\'s page";
If ur using it in xml use:
' to replace '.

Can you use ESB to insert multiple records into a Database

We have an XML file that has a Parent/Child relationship.
In situation 1 we have a single parent record in the xml file. We can insert the record into the database successfully.
In situation 2 we have a parent and a an associated child record. By using a filter expression to identify the existence of the child record we can route to the first DB Adapter to insert the parent then to the second DB Adapter to insert the child.
Is this final scenario logical and also possible.
Situation 3 we have multiple child records associated to a single parent. So we would first insert the parent record then insert all the child records.

How to insert new line character?

I have two lines to print.

i want both the lines to be printed one below the other. But, it is displayed in one single line.....
Can anyone please tell me how to insert new line character?
I tried with \n, '\n' and \r\n but, in vain......

You should never use "\n" directly.
The line separator character is different on different operating systems.
And putting quotes around it in your string will make absolutely no difference in the JSP.
To find out what the line separator is you should use System.getProperty("line.separator");
The JSPWriter and PrintWriter classes will automatically use this property with a println statement, so a println will always finish with a line separator.
The issue here was that HTML by default ignores all whitespace.
The solutions provided
- use a <br> tag instead of a carriage return
- use <pre> tags, which tells the browser not to ignore whitespace. That can be troublesome in JSP which generates a lot of extraneous carriage returns into the code.

You can escape the quote character by repeating it like so:
'AAAsb''&''BBBfg'

Is this the fastest way to insert 100k rows into a database?

I'm looking to insert ~100k rows into a database as fast as possible. I'm connected to the database through a small LAN with static IP adresses. The target database is running my SQL. Here's the fastest I've gotten the code so far. Task manager shows that it's only sending like 2.5mbps. If I take the size of the 2D array (64MB) and divide by the time it takes to transfer it currently, I calculate ~160kbps. Is that the best I can hope for with the NI DB Toolkit?

Use DB Tool Insert Data VI to insert the data in the database.
You can insert complete row data at a time. No need to insert single-single element in database this will reduce your code performance.

I cant read correct single quote from mySQL database...

I cant read correct single quote from mySQL database, pls help. What i'm talking about. I must import, "J'adore" for example in my DB and I'm doing this. Thats ok. But when I try to read this value from my DB through JDBC I'm receiving SQL exception (because JDBC thinks that i didn't close may quote). If somebody knows solution for this problem lets tell me.

Refresh jTable after inserting new data into the Database

Hey all,
I'm using Netbeans 6.5 to create a Desktop Application which is connected to a Java DB (Derby).
The first simple steps were all very successfull:
Create the jTable and bind it to the Database => everything works fine. When the application starts it correctly shows all data from the database.
The problem starts when I try to insert new data to the database.
For that reason I've created textfields and a button "Save". When I press the button it successfully inserts the data to the database but they are not displayed in the jTable (when the application starts they are all there, they are not updated at runtime) . I've tried table.invalidate() and table.repaint() but they just don't work.
Any help will be GREATLY appreciated. But please have in mind that most of the code is Netbeans-generated and most of it not editable.

Once again you are right my friend. I jumped to conclusion way too fast, when I shouldn't. (Give me a break, I've been busting my head with this well over a week). The response I saw when I did that was that indeed a line is added to the jTable. Because I falsly set the index of the object to be added to be second to last the row appeared on the table, what I didn't see at the time was that the last one disappeared. Hmm...

... and a lot morewhich from my poor understanding means that the jTable succesfully notices the change but it is not able (??) to adjust to the new change. What is more interesting is that when I plainly add the element to the end of the list (without an idex that is), a blank row appears at the end of my Table. The weird thing is that I've bound the table to some text fields below it, and when I select that empty row all the data appear correctly to the text fields.
I tried going through:

Insert an image from a Database

Hi - I am trying to insert an image from a database into a webpage. Basically when clients register on the site they upload their logo which i want to come up when they look at their account details and when they post a job. When I test the file upload the file name is in an "image" field in my database and the image is in the website files on the server but I am having problems trying to get the logo to shop up on the webpage. I have one table called Recruiters where all the client's contact details (and logo upload goes) and a table called jobs where all the job details go when they post a job (this does not hold the logo upload).
At the moment i am trying to insert the image into the Recruiter account Details page where all the clients contact details are and all this information comes from the Recruiter table (including the image) but the image does not appear. the query in my recordset is:-

Would you be able to help me out with inserting the logo into a job post page and the recordset I will need to insert the logo?
Basically I want to add the logo that is uploaded when a client registers on the site onto a job info page. To access the the details about a job, jobseekers just click on the job that interests them which takes them to the job details page which pulls all the information from the "Job" table in the database. However, the logo is stored in the "image" field in the "Recruiter" table in the database.   I have tried setting up a recordset as:-

If not, import both those tables into rpd with different connections..
Create physical joins by selecting those tables and perform joins operations over db's in physical layer..

The default CHAR NOW is a black diamond with ? in middle in stead of 'Right double quoation mark' and others.
The Text used is copied from documents user's get
so someone is putting in I think what is called ALT ascii. This data has been used for years
some updates where put in the system, I don't know details.

I can copy the text then load it into the a column in a xls.
I am exporting the spreadsheet from TOAD it wasn't updated so
it has to be with the EXCEL. I tried changing the ENCODING in EXCEL but that
didn't work.

I'm not familiar with TOAD, could you please let us know how did you export data from TOAD to Excel?
Based on your description, it should be an encoding problem, have you tried to change the encoding as 'UTF-8' ?
