Develop discussion forum in ADF

JDeveloper 11.1.1.6.0
Is this forum built in ADF?
Or, how should I develop a discussion forum in ADF?
Which all components I should use?

WebCenter Portal may be used for Discussions.

  • How to develop discussion forums using java

    Hi, can any one kindly explain how to develop disccussion forums using java.
    the application is like same as this forum. one post and the replies are come after that. creating new threads.
    any tutuorial is available for this. what is best dabase for this. and which application server is required.

    if you want to use a forum for sum purpose download an opensource forum software and deploy it in a server that support the serverside technology that it uses.
    If you dont want to go through the trouble of installing the the forum software (normally there is a quaita bit of configuration to do). Goole for Free Forum Hosting and you will get plenty of places that hosts forums for you. Since they do the installation you dont have to wory about that part.
    If you really want to develop a forum software first install an existing open source forum or get an account in a free forum hoster and take good look at the forum software and the features that it provides.
    In here you only see the front end of the forum. The back end is much more complicated. You have to define forums and forum groups, you have to define user groups, you have to define which users has access to which forums. who can start topics and who can reply to topics and whgo has read only access. And how to clollect and stor statistics like number of posts by each user. And the list goes on...
    So first take a look at the features in both front and back end of an existing forum software and decide what you want in your software. Then you can design the database to support those features. And then start coding.
    Technicaly you will need to know how to do servlets/JSP and JDBC in order to build a forum. Most important part is you have to do lots of planing.

  • How to develop a discussion forum using Java?

    I am actually developing a forum using Java. That would actually include registering process for a new user and if the user has an account, he can log in. The program should then generate a welcome message and a randomly-created password of 8 char (char+digits), this wil be printed on the screen. I am quite a newbie in this area.. Appreciate for ur help
    Thanzz....

    and what is more import than actual programming when making a software like a forum system is the database design.
    so first you have to designe your database
    decide which data that you have to store and decide what are the table that you will need and what columns that you want in the tables
    thats where you should start

  • Portlet BindingException while consuming JIVE Discussion Forum.

    Hi
    I'm facing problem while consuming Jive Discussion forum using Oracle JDeveloper 10.1.3.4
    Following are the steps i followed fot this...
    1) Deployed Jive-5.1.0 using OC4J WebCenter instance ( Deployed in Oracle App Server 10.1.3)
    2) Integrated discussion forum Portlet with Oracle WebCenter Discussion application.
    This is done by making use of deploy-jive-portlet.jar and oracle-jive-portlet.zip
    3) Registration
    Able to register with WSRP1 and WSRP2 .
    When i try to consume this portlet, i'm getting following error on the Jdevelper Console

    Hi..
    Im trying to integrate discussion forum portlet with Oracle WebCenter discussion application. By following the procdure in Developers guide. I was trying to deploy the deploy-jive-portlet.jar to the path j2ee/OC4J_instance/applications/owc_discussions/jiveforums+
    When i run the command java -client -Dhttp.proxyHost=www-proxy.us.oracle.com -Dhttp.proxyPort=80 -jar deploy-jive-portlet.jar
    i struck with the following error.

  • Unable to create a connection for Discussion Forums.

    Hi,
    I have my WC_Spaces and WC_Colloboration Servers running actively. When I try to create a new connection by right-clicking Connections in Applications Resources and choose Discussion Forums and too I entered the URL and admin fields, I find its unable to create a new connection. The error displayed is : "Failed to verify connection". Please help me with this.
    Regards,
    Dinesh Vishnu Kumar

    Hi,
    In your webcenter application you have created the discussion forum connection and you have connections.xml file in your application.Open the connections.xml in jdeveloper and check the discussion forum connection entry.
    For example here I have written down my entry on forum connection-
    <Reference name="Discussion Forum Connection" className="oracle.adf.mbean.share.connection.webcenter.forum.ForumConnection" xmlns="">
    <Factory className="oracle.adf.mbean.share.connection.webcenter.forum.ForumConnectionFactory"/>
    <RefAddresses>
    <StringRefAddr addrType="forum.url">
    <Contents>http://localhost:8890/owc_discussions</Contents>
    </StringRefAddr>
    <StringRefAddr addrType="admin.user">
    <Contents>weblogic</Contents>
    </StringRefAddr>
    <StringRefAddr addrType="connection.time.out">
    <Contents/>
    </StringRefAddr>
    <StringRefAddr addrType="policy.uri.for.auth.access">
    <Contents/>
    </StringRefAddr>
    <StringRefAddr addrType="policy.uri.for.public.access">
    <Contents/>
    </StringRefAddr>
    <StringRefAddr addrType="recipient.key.alias">
    <Contents/>
    </StringRefAddr>
    <StringRefAddr addrType="adapter.name">
    <Contents>Jive</Contents>
    </StringRefAddr>
    </RefAddresses>
    </Reference>
    Change the required entries with your values(for serveraddress,port and admin user).
    One more thing need to consider that is -
    in jdeveloper proxy ,add the server address in exception list and restart the jdeveloper.
    Sometimes it will show you up as "failed to verify the connection". But it will work atleast functionality-wise it will work.
    Apart from this,I have a query on "Have you used any VPN connection to connect collaboration server to create forum connection?"
    Hope it works for you.

    Hoque

  • How to integrate Blogs & Discussion Forums for Webcenter Suite 10gR3?

    Hi,
    One of our clients has just gone live with a Webcenter 10gR3 Portal implementation (using WC Framework). They're now interested in integrating blogs and discussion forums with their Portal.
    My understanding is that blogging, discussion forum etc is not supported in Webcenter 10gR3. Correct me if wrong?
    Can someone share any solutions which have been implemented around the same. Eg: I read about using blogs, wiki etc from Webcenter 11g Stack and exposing them web services.
    Basically what are the possible options we can explore into?
    Thanks,
    Preethi

    Thanks Venkat. Actually we're not considering migrating to 11g I was only looking for possible options and this was one of them that I read the forum.
    Thought to adding some more information about this portal: It is developed in WLP so they're on Weblogic Server.
    Jon Huang, Director Product Management for Webcenter Suite and Portal tells me
    "The WebCenter 10.1.3.4 Additional Services releases contains wiki/blog/discussions and is certified with WebCenter 10gR3 version:
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/webcenter/owcs_10134_addtlservices.html
    *You'll need to use WLS for these additional services.*"
    That answers my question, but would appreciate if others can share any more info on similar implementations, if done.

  • JAVA Discussion Forum Portlet of craig Laurent

    Hi all,
    I downloaded the Java Discussion Forum portlet which is developed by laurent from Oracle Portal Integration Solutions site.
    But I have some issues in using this portlet.
    As per the instructions I have installed the portlet successfully in both OCS V1 and OCS V2.
    1) But in OCS V1 when creating a Topic or reply to a Topic the record is creating with a TIMESTAMP of 3 Hrs less than the actual time. I understand he is using CURRENT_TIMESTAMP to capture the time. When I checked by create a record in a dummy table with capturing TIMESTAMP directly in SQL*PLUS, correct time is capturing without any difference. This is the problem I am facing with OCS V1.
    2) In OCS V2 the problem I am facing is something tedious. When tried to create a Topic the record is not at all creating in the database, at the sametime no error message is also occuring.
    Can anybody please...... help me to sorted out these issues.
    Thanks & Regards,
    Durai.

    Hi,
    I am also having a problem in using Java Discussion Forum Portlet. I have deployed the portlet successfully in OCS V2(Portal Version 9.0.2.3.0B). But when I am creating a topic it is not creating a record in the database. I can be able to create forum, but I couldn't create a topic and reply topic. Should I need to apply any Patch.
    The same portlet which I deployed in OCS V1(Portal Version 9.0.2.2.22) is working fine.
    Please Advice me
    Regards,
    Durai.

  • Are there other iLearning discussion forums?

    I've just been asked to help install/deploy iLearning in a Linux environment. The purchase hasn't happened yet so I'm not aware of/nor have access to any detailed iLearning installation guide, but if possible i'd like to get a head start since I am not familiar with Oracle products (I've been developing primarily with PHP/MySQL).
    Are there any publicly available installation documents for iLearning on a Linux platform?
    Anyone else here using iLearning on Linux and care to share their experiences?
    Also, since this forum is pretty quiet, are there more active discussion forums covering iLearning?
    many thanks in advance!

    The install guide for Oracle iLearning is available through Metalink, our customer support web site.
    There is a forum on metalink as well as a discussion forum on our Oracle iLearning customer site:
    http://ilearning.oracle.com
    Click Self-Register
    When asked for the site name, enter "ilearning"
    Create your account
    Perform a search in the catalog for "Forum"
    Subscribe to the Oracle iLearning Product Information forum.
    There is not very much activity there either however, but as questions are asked the product management team attempts to answer them or other customers may respond as well.
    Thanks!

  • Failed to verify connection (Discussion forum connection in jdeveloper 11g)

    I have followed the steps provide in the documentation -
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E17904_01/webcenter.1111/e10148/jpsdg_announce.htm#CHDEIAHH
    to create a discussion forum connection.
    But I have noticed couple of things.
    There are two different scenarios .
    1)If the WC_Collaboration server is located within local machine and the jdeveloper 11g discussion forum connection is in local machine,then connection is successful.
    2)If the WC_Collaboration server is located at remote machine and the jdeveloper 11g discussion forum connection is another machine,then connection is errorneous and it is showing "Failed to verify connection"

  • What date did Apple's discussion forums begin?

    Does anyone know when the Apple discussion forums started?
    I ask this in in relation to Apple being aware (through these forums) of consumer issues /problems / suggestions and then taking the information onboard in development of their products. In my mind the users of apple computers have fed back into the design and updating of hardware/software over the years and the forums (including the criticism they sometimes contain) have facilitated Apple to respond to user needs.
    Thanks.

    Apple folks may peek in here from time to time, but this is not where they get much, if any, such info. The only place I've ever seen an Apple employee post is in this one forum, about how the forums work. Otherwise, it's user-to-user.
    I've asked a couple of Apple Product Engineers (for Time Machine) if they ever look in the forums for problems, and was told no. If you follow many threads here, especially the ones with lots of posts that might look like a fairly general problem, you'll usually find different problems, different hardware and software, all sorts of digressions, etc., and rarely enough specifics for anybody to figure out what's actually going on. It just wouldn't be very productive. They use actual problems reported to AppleCare, the bugreport site, or the feedback site, and no doubt do various sorts of market research, surveys, etc.
    In addition, they do beta testing with experienced users who provide feedback for changes and enhancements, as well as problem reports.

  • Welcome to the Oracle Warehouse Builder discussion forum

    Hello!
    Welcome to the Oracle Warehouse Builder discussion forum!
    Oracle Warehouse Builder (OWB) product management and development will monitor the discussion forum on regular basis.
    Please use this forum for asking product related questions, giving feedback, suggesting enhancements, reporting problems and requesting collateral.

    Bonjour "Etudiant from Tunisia",
    I'm not sure what you mean with "please give me the user/password".
    As far as I know there is no online OWB available where you could try out the product (if that is what you mean).
    If you would like to learn more about OWB, read online documentation or for instance the link that is provided in an earlier post in this thread.
    Otherwise simply install OWB and try it yourself. The Installation and Configuration Guide is clear enough even without much experience installing Oracle software, and the OWB User Guide provides some basic insight on working with OWB itself.
    Good luck, Patrick
    ps If people are still expecting what Igor mentioned when he started this forum ("Oracle Warehouse Builder (OWB) product management and development will monitor the discussion forum on regular basis"), don't count on it; fortunately the product itself has been around long enough now, there are quite some users that can share usable insights and/or drop some useful lines on the new threads... ;-)

  • Integrated Solutions Java Discussion Forum

    Hi
    Here's some feedback on the above portlet. We have installed the forum in a separate OC4J container on 10g. It installed without any problems and is working correctly through Portal apart from the following.
    We are experiencing problems wth refreshing.
    a. If you reply to a thread the reply is placed second last on the page. You have to exit and re-enter the portlet before the lastest thread is displayed at the bottom of the page.
    b. Similar problem. Two users are accessing the forum. First user creates a new reply to a thread. The second user accesses the forum/topic and can see that the number of replies are correct but on accessing the thread cannot see the latest thread. They have to exit and re-enter the portlet before the new thread is viewable.
    In general users of the discussion forum may find it useful if security on the Portlet was enhanced to allow security to be attached to Products to allow Products to be public to all users or private to a group of users. The search would also required to be amended to only bring back forum information that the user has access to.

  • Design Pattern for Discussion Forum

    Hi all,
    We have to develop a application similar to our discussion forum. Which Design Pattern is more useful? Can u discuss the archietecture? We use J2EE except EJB.
    Thanks,
    Murali

    We expect people to at least make an attempt at the question and present a few ideas particularly college assignments / home-work questions. We dont expect everybody/thing to correct, you will receive little criticism for being wrong, if you show a willingness to put in some effort. You will be criticised for and likely receive no help if you simple expect members to do your work.
    Some patterns to be think about.
    The achitectural pattern of this forum is thin client, 3-tier, presentation, functionality and storage.
    Consider the following patterns.
    - Model View Controller
    - Facade and/or Proxy
    - Command
    - Composite
    - Memento
