Inserting tabular data in form

I have been asked to see if our form, which we route by email, can support the pasting of a large amount of data from Excel into a cell. When I paste information in, of course it strips out the tabular formatting. Does anyone have any suggestions? It appears that attaching a file won't work without us investing in the server application. Do I need to just have users add new rows manually, instead of being easily able to paste in a large chunk of tabular data? Thanks!

Priya - Items with the attribute "disabled=true" are not POSTed so you cannot reference the g_fxx arrays for those elements.
Also, unrelated to that issue, I think "where not exists(select htmldb_item.hidden(1,invoice_no) invoice_no from bae_comments..." can be changed to "where not exists(select 1 from bae_comments...".

This means the block is not directly connected to a table so you have to manually display data in the block and any DML you want to perform on data in this block you must do manually as well.
There are four database objects you can base your database block on; 1) a Table, 2) a View, 3) From Clause Query (basically an In-line View), and 4) a database stored procedure. I recommend you use one of these four methods rather than manually display your data.

JDBC + SERVLET: inserting text data to access file from Html form

Hi everybody !
I'm trying to insert text data from my html form to access database using servlet and jdbc technologies.
The problem that I'm that the data is TEXT, but not the English language !!!
So my access db file gets - ???????? symbols instead the real text.
This is the form line that sending data to my servlet:

What can I do to get in access db file the right text format and not a ???????? symbols.

You're dealing with Unicode, I'd guess, and not ASCII.
I guess I'd have two questions:
(1) Is the character encoding on your pages set properly for the language you're trying to use?
(2) Does Access handle Unicode characters?
Access isn't exacly a world-class database. (If it was, there'd be no reason for M$ to develop SQL Server.) I'd find out if it supports other character sets. If not, you'll have to switch to a more capable database that does. - MOD

Make Item of Data Entry Form Insert Only, Non Updateable

Hi,
Can someone please tell me how to make an item on a data entry form insert only and not updateable. The user can enter the text item in insert mode but cannot update the text item in update mode. This was really simple in Oracle Forms, hoping it is as simple in APEX.

I think that's too much of the wrong information.
It sounds like you have multiple forms. Are they Modal or Non-Modal?
What code do you use to call the form that's not working?
Does it work initially and then stop working?

We have an existing process the project manager enters the users time again projects this i done row by row so the results are

you'd need an updateable pivot table (crosstab) - there is no out-of-the-box solution for this ... but a combination of existing how tos will do the trick.
First: generate the crosstab (as an APEX report):

Problem
Hi,
I am using a Tabular Form. I used the wizard and it created all of the items (Cancel, Submit, Add, Multidelete buttons, etc.). I have a table that is like an FK table. For instance, we could have a customer table, and then a customer address table. Each customer could have multiple addresses. In the address table, the first ID column is the customer ID. So in using the tabular form for the addresses, I need to make the first column the same when I insert. But when I choose add row, everything works fine except it tries to insert a null into customer id. The uniqueness of the row is determined by customer ID and address string.
Any time I make it to this screen, all new rows will have the same ID with I have in a variable that I can reference from the page called :P0_ITM_CUST_ID.
How do I set the first value for all inserts? My guess is I need to do this in Computations. I'm also guessing I need to do this with a replace statement. I'm just not sure how to reference the first column of the new row.

The way to do this is by using the "Default" value for that Column. Go to
Home>Application Builder>Application xxx>Page yyy>Report Attributes>Column Attributes
Set the default value for newly added rows as in

Kristian - You see a different version of the form depending on whether the selected column is the primary key column or not.

Insert Rows Above in Form

Hello all,
I'm trying to allow users to insert rows on a form in such away that the added row renders in the middle of the form. Probably having a check box on each row saying 'insert row above'.
The purpose is to emulate editing a table in a word processor basically. I understand I'd have to manage re-sequencing the data as the user changes records that appear in the 'middle' of the table.
I've seen D Kubicek's 'row mover' page and it's a good fallback, however I'd be interested as to whether what I want is really simple or will involve a lot of js and / or Ajax.

As Andy suggested, the order in the SQL, nulls first would do the job. However, if sorting is enabled, there is a problem.

Performing operation on tabular data block

hello guys,
i m designing one tabular data block in orcle 6i form builder form emploee_master table form maintaing the employee personnel details.
i have to perform some operation on this data block like viewing existing records,updatinng the record(s),deleting a purticular record,insrting new record.
is there a shortcut way to perform theses operations so processing shoulg be fast and data shold be updated?

All you have to do is to create a block based on the database table. Forms will, then, do everything for you (insert, update, delete) at commit time.

Data entry form problem - form in query-only mode

Hi there,
I am trying to create an data entry form to insert recordacross 2 out of 3 tables. The last of the four tables already have details and does not need to have record inserted into.
This is the scenario, my four tables are Factory, Employee, Works_in. Works_in resolves a many to many relationship between Factory and Employee
Now for a person to be employed in a factory, he must be assigned to a factory.
I have a list of factories already in the database. After choosing a factory from the database, I want to insert records to do with his Fname, Lname, Hiredate bla, bla, bla to the Employee table.
I have a single form with Factory as the master, and 2 tabs each for Employee and Works_in.
After linking all my tables with the ability to choose a factory first on the master form from a combo box and after inserting records into the other forms, it says form running in query-only mode.
What do you think?

How to populate new record on data entry form based on search results?

I'm new to jdeveloper im using version 11.1.2.1.0.
Usually Im using forms 10g.
I created search panel with table and its working but problem is how to transfer/populate all the field value according to that search result to New data Entry Form
by clicking the table record or a button.
Given :

Here the scenario,
After Search of any patient, when i clicked one or more patient (which Jdeveloper allow multi select on jtable) on the table record it should automatically transfer or copied to the text field, i want to show on the form of PatientTransactionMaster like PatientNumber,PatientInsuranceNumber etc. to be save on db as new record, also non database field for view only like patient Name,address,age.
IN forms i can do that by :PatientTransactionMaster.PatientNumber := :blocksearch.PatientSearchNumber ,etc.....
or an item trigger to populate the said PatientTransactionMaster block. ( select .... into :PatientTransactionMaster.PatientNumber,etc....)

Do you want to create a detail record that will include some values from your master record??
Or do you want to create a record with values from your Search criteria, only in the case you do not have any results?
if it is the second case.
When do you want to do that? After a press of button? or immediately?
In general you have to handle the values from search criteria.
Additionally, if you use ViewCriteria, you have to have bind variables for your search criteria that you will want to use.
So in general, you have to know the values by using bind variables, understand that the query has no results (This can be done in many ways, depending on your implementation. if you are using a button, you could make a disable condition with iterator.estimatedRowCount property.)
Perform the insert operation with the values from the bind variables.

Hi,
I do not know of a way within Portal to automatically send an email, but the database has a utility (utl_smtp) that will allow you to do so very easily. You can use Portal to insert your data and then put a trigger on your table that fires after the data is inserted that calls a procedure that will send the mail.
Here is an example of a procedure that I have used to send mail (you can get all of the info on utl_smtp in the Oracle docs). I have a Portal form that allows the user to input three values and once they click 'insert' and the data goes into the table, I have a trigger that fires 'after insert' and runs this procedure:

How to insert a date in a numbers cell from applescript?

I was just wondering, I got this list of dates that i want to change with this handler that i call datachanger, i use it to seperate dates like these 1994-11-07 and reassemble them. Now what i would like to do is to reassemble them in such a way that i can insert every item in datalist in numbers cells. Now it gives me a weird error. How do i have to change the things between bas3 and bas2 to get it to fit in a numbers cell without an error? or do i have to use the quoted form of it before i can insert it?

How to insert sign date "now()" in database ?????

I am a newbie. Using DW CS5 I have been able to get a number of web pages on my web site to work well. My problem is with my “sign in form”. I want to add in the sign in form a hidden field for the date that the user signs up.
But the signup_date value in the database is not been entered. I do have a “work around”. If I replace the last “%s” in the $insertSQL statement with NOW(), the correct signup_date is entered in the database table “users”. However, I want to learn to do it “right”. My questions:
1.      What is the “best” way to accomplish my desire results?
2.      What do the “%s” stand for in the $insertSQL statement? I think it is an array, but I do not understand this line of code that DW generated. Can you explain is plain English?

Your "workaround" is actually the correct method. The way that you think is "right", by entering the date into a hidden field, is actually the wrong way. Hidden fields can be manipulated. Inserting data directly into the query is the desired method, like the method you are currently using. It's not a "workaround", it's the correct method. You hidden field is not working because you have not told the page that the NOW() in the hidden field should be processed through php. NOW() is MySQL function. Use php to echo current date in hidden field if you want to use the "wrong" method of processing the date into your query.

Creating a Data Entry Form combining 2 or more tables like a Master Detail

I have a client requirement to create a data entry form which shows fields from 3 different tables joined by linking key. The data entry form should allow the user to enter a new record details. This should populate into 1 or more tables.
Example: User table with userid,username. userRoles with userid,roleid. The user can have one or more roles. There are 4 roles and possibility of expanding. The data entry form should show userid, username and all the possible roles fetching from a look-up table roles_lookup which has role_id, role_description. When a new user is created with 4 roles selected the system should create one user record and r userRoles records.
What is the best approach.

I found the solution. We can create a database routine to which we pass all the values and in the routine we create two different insert statements. Based on the number of roles selected we can control the loop to create number of records in role table.
