Install coldfusion ent 64 bit in a distributed environment

Hi,
What I am trying to achieve :
Install CF 80 ent 64 bit in windows server 2003. (server 1)
MY webserver is is anoter system which is running windows xp
32 bit. ie my iis is 32 bit. (server 2)
All my web files and websites(IIS stuffs ) wil be in server
2. and Jrun will in in server 1.
What i did:
1. Installed Cf 80 in server 1. with multiple instance
support.
2. copied the connector files from jrun folder of server 1 to
server 2. and changed few config files
(This was done by following some docs form net)
But this method is not working. Please let me know if someone
have a clear way of doing it or any docs are there.
I will be so thankfull as I am struck up with this.
Thanks,
Dev

This will not work. All your .cfm files must be on the server
that has
JRun (server1).
In order to set this up:
1. Install JRun / CF on server1. It is highly recommended to
choose the
buildin webserver so you can verify your installation is
correct.
2. Copy wsconfig.jar to the webserver on server2. Make sure
you have a
JDK installed (same version as CF/JRun uses).
3. Run wsconfig.jar and specify connection parameters to
connect to
server1:
http://livedocs.adobe.com/coldfusion/6.1/htmldocs/websera7.htm
4. Plcae your .cfm files in the CF wwwroot
(...\???.ear\cfusion.war\
folder) on server 1.
5. Test.
This should work, but IIRC Adobe will only support a
configuration where
you also have your CF code on the webserver and the path to
your IIS
wwwroot on server2 is identical to the path to the JRun
wwwroot on server1.

The documentation contains lots of useful information I really think you should study it before even attempting, also take note of the information provided in - http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E17236_01/epm.1112/epm_install_11121/ch03s03.html
For ODI the RCU utility creates the master and work repository, the documentation takes you through the steps or just search on the web as there are a number of installation guides if you trust them.
    Cheers

  • How to Install Coldfusion 8 64-bit on Small Business Server 2008 64-bit

How to Install Coldfusion 8 64-bit on Small Business Server 2008 64-bit
I ran Coldfusion 8 on SBS 2003 Premium for 6 months with no problems.  When we finally decided to cut over to SBS 2008, that’s when everything went to hell.  I tried for weeks to get Coldfusion 8 to install properly on the new SBS 2008 64-bit box.  During the course which, I found bits and pieces of information for Vista 64-bit and Windows Server 2008 64-bit installations.  There are some distinct differences, however, with SBS 2008 since it runs core Web applications like OWA, RWW and Companyweb.  After countless unsuccessful attempts, one of which completed corrupted the box, I found the solution.
I have attempted in this white paper to detail the steps to assist others who may be in a similar situation.  I don’t make any warranty for the information, but so long as you follow the steps carefully you should be fine.  BTW, for those of you who say Adobe offers free technical support for licensed users, that’s not entirely true.  Like I said, I purchased CF8 and originally installed it on an SBS 2003 Premium box.  After we cut over to SBS 2008 and encountered problems, Adobe wouldn’t provide any technical support without charging.  Moreover, based on my initial conversations with Adobe’s technical team, no one seemed to know much about running 64-bit on SBS.
From my understanding, only two versions of Coldfusion 8 can be installed in 64-bit: Enterprise and Developer.  The “normal” install (which I paid a grand for) can only be deployed in 32-bit mode – gee, THANKS Adobe!  By the way, in Developer mode only two distinct IPs can access the site in addition to the localhost.  Any additional IPs will result in a CFML error message stating that the maximum number of IPs have been exceeded.  At any rate, take your time and follow the steps to achieve a successful installation.
    PRE-INSTALLATION TASKS
    Back Up SBS
It’s always a good practice to backup your server before deploying any kind of major system changes.  Although this step is optional, I recommend it in case you need to restore your server for any reason.  Bear in mind, if your system ever gets totally corrupted, you cannot restore back from the twice daily incremental backup images alone.  You will need a full backup with system recovery information to restore.  Here are the basic steps:
Click: Start > Programs > Administrative Tools.  Right-click “Windows Server Backup” and choose “Run as administrator”.
Click “Backup Once” under Actions in the right-hand pane.
Choose the “Different Options” radio button under Backup Options.
Choose the “Custom” radio button.  What we’re primarily interested in here is backing up the OS – not your data partitions or attached drives.
Select the “SYSTEM (C)” checkbox, uncheck any others.  Also, ensure that the “Enable system recovery” checkbox is selected before continuing on.
Under ‘Specify Destination Type’, I usually select the “Local drives” radio button and point it to a Terrabyte USB drive I use for backups.  You can point this to a tape drive, or select the “Remote shared folder” radio button if you map to a UNC path to store your backup images.  Just remember, make sure that whatever path you select can readily be accessed in the event of an emergency.  Also, make sure the “Verify after writing (recommended)” checkbox is selected.
Under ‘Specified Advanced Option’, I usually select the “VSS full backup” radio button instead of the default since I don’t use a 3rd party backup product.  If like me you rely solely on SBS for your backups, choose the full backup option.
Confirm everything and click “Backup”.  This process may take several hours depending on the size of your system.
    Verify ISAPI Filters:
In IIS Manager, double-click the server instance in the left-hand pane.
In the center pane under IIS, double click the “Modules” icon to verify that the ISAPI native modules are already installed for IIS.  If it’s set up correctly you should see two entries:
    IsapiFilterModule              %windir%\System32\inetsrv\filter.dll
    IsapiModule                        %windir%\System32\inetsrv\isapi.dll
If either of these modules are missing, you will need to re-install these (google for a solution).
    Set Up Development Environment
Create a directory for your CFML files outside of the default Windows location (e.g., default is usually C:\inetpub\wwwroot\).  For the purpose of our install, I created a directory on a separate disk called: D:\DEV.
Copy and paste your CFML files and directories into the new DEV root Web directory.  This will eventually be the directory where the Coldfusion installer places the CFIDE and CFDOCS folders.
Open IIS Manager and double-click the server instance in the left hand pane.  Expand the “Sites” folder.  Right-click the Sites folder and select “Add Web Site”.
Enter a name in the “Site Name” box (e.g., “test-site”).  You will notice that the system will automatically create a corresponding Application Pool with the same name.  NOTE: this is important to prevent conflicts between the DefaultAppPool (needed for SBS Web apps like OWA, RWW, etc.) and the application pool needed for Coldfusion to function properly in SBS 2008.
Point the “Physical Path” to the directory you created in step #1 above (e.g., “D:\DEV”).
Don’t worry about testing the connection.  If you click “Test Settings” you may receive a warning that IIS cannot verify access to path (D:\DEV).  Don’t worry about this for the time being.
Under “Host name”, enter a DNS path to your site (e.g., “dev.test-site.com”).  Click “OK”.
    Configure Application Pools for Installation
In IIS Manager, double-click the server instance in the left-hand pane.  Click on “Application Pools” to display the list of server application pools in the center pane.
In the “Actions” pane on the right-hand side, click “Set Application Pool Defaults”.
Change “Enable 32-Bit Applications” - the second item from the top – from “False” to “True”, and then click “OK”.  NOTE: if you skip this step, Coldfusion will not properly create the required mappings during the install. We will change this setting back after the installation completes – more on this later.
Modify the application.host.config File for 64-Bitness
Click: Start > Programs > Accessories.  Right-click “Notepad” and choose “Run as administrator”.
Open the config file from within Notepad – default location: C:\Windows\System32\inetsrv\config\applicationHost.config
Do a search and change this one line from:
    <add name="PasswordExpiryModule" image="C:\Windows\system32\RpcProxy\RpcProxy.dll" />
    To this:
    <add name="PasswordExpiryModule" image="C:\Windows\system32\RpcProxy\RpcProxy.dll" preCondition="bitness64" />
    Restart the IIS Admin service.
    Set HTTP Compression
According to some threads I read, the http compression module can cause errors if you don’t disable it globally. To remedy this, perform the following:
Click: Start > Programs > Accessories.  Right-click “Command Prompt” and choose “Run as administrator”.
At the command prompt, change directory to intetsrv by typing: cd inetsrv
    Run the following command:
    C:\Windows\system32\inetsrv>appcmd.exe set config -section:system.webServer/httpCompression /-[name='xpress']
This will turn off HTTP compression for all sites in IIS.
In IIS Manager, double-click the server instance in the left-hand pane.  Double-click the “Compression” icon in the IIS section of the center pane.
Uncheck all of the boxes, then click the “Apply” button under Actions in the right-hand pane.
Recheck all of the boxes, then click the “Apply” button under Actions in the right-hand pane.
Restart the IIS Admin service.  This should enable compression and coldfusion to work at the same time.
NOTE: if for some reason you need to reverse this, run the following command from the command prompt:
    C:\Windows\system32\inetsrv\appcmd.exe set config -section:system.webServer/httpCompression /+[name='xpress',doStaticCompression='false',dll='%windir%\system32\inetsrv\suscomp.dll']
    INSTALLATION TASKS
Download the 64-bit installation package from Adobe – filename: coldfusion-801-wind64.exe.
Right-click the file and select “Run as administrator”.
Accept the terms of the License Agreement.
If you have an Enterprise license, enter it.  For our purposes, just click the “Developer Edition” checkbox.
Select “Server configuration” – the default radio button.
I deselected all subcomponents and can’t guarantee that you’ll arrive at the same results if you select additional items like “.NET Integrated Services”.  It should be fine, particularly if you install documentation.  My preference was to keep the install as plain vanilla as possible.
Select the directory path for Coldfusion to install into – default is :C\Coldfusion
THE NEXT TWO STEPS ARE CRITICAL TO YOUR SUCCESS.  Unselect “All IIS Websites” and select the “Configure specific IIS Website or another web server” radio button.  Click “Add”, and then select your test Web site (e.g., “test-site”) under “IIS Web Site”.  Hit “OK”.
Do NOT use the default directory path for the CF Administrator location (e.g., default path: “C:\inetpub\wwwroot”).  Instead, point the installer to your new DEV root Web directory (e.g., “D:\DEV”).  The bottom line, you want the installer to place the CFIDE directory and files within this folder, alongside your other CFML files and folders.
    Enter an Administrator password.
Choose to Enable RDS, or not.  I enable this by preference but it is not required.  This allows you to make updates to files using a CFML editor directly vs. having to move/FTP the files over if you’re working remotely.  Opponents to this argue that it’s potentially less secure, but for a lower environment I don’t see this as a major concern.
Confirm everything to kick off the install.
If all goes well you should see a message at the end stating that the install was successful.  I recommend you uncheck the box that asks you to open the CF Administrator in the default Web browser after the install.  NOTE: we will open it a different way during the post-installation tasks.  The worst thing that will happen if you forget to uncheck the box is that you might receive an error that the command prompt hung – not a big deal – just close it and move on to the next (final) steps.
    POST-INSTALLATION TASKS
    Verify CF Installation:
The installation will create a new folder in your program group: Start > Programs > Adobe > Coldfusion 8.  The default “Administrator” link will not work because it points to the wrong path: http://127.0.0.1/CFIDE/administrator/index.cfm. The “127.0.0.1” or “localhost” path as you may recall in IIS, points by default to the “C:\inetpub\wwwroot” directory.  Our CFIDE files, however, are located within: D:\DEV.
To bring up the CF Administrator logon page, open up a Web browser and replace the “http://127.0.0.1” part of the path with the DNS path name to your CF environment (e.g., http://dev.test-site.com/CFIDE/administrator/index.cfm).
This should bring up the Coldfusion Administrator Login screen.  Enter in the Administrator password you created during the install to log in and configure your application server.
Verify that your test-site renders correctly by typing in your test URL into a Web browser (e.g., http://dev.test-site.com).
Fix Application Pool Defaults to Re-enable SBS Web Applications:
At this point, Coldfusion Administrator and your test CMFL Web site should be working properly.  The problem is, default SBS Web applications like OWA, RWW and Companyweb will throw errors and fail to start.  Fortunately, this is easily remedied by performing the following steps:
In IIS Manager, double-click the server instance in the left-hand pane.  Click on “Application Pools” to display the list of server application pools in the center pane.
In the “Actions” pane on the right-hand side, click “Set Application Pool Defaults”.
Change “Enable 32-Bit Applications” - the second item from the top – from “True” to “False” this time.  This should re-enable the SBS applications, which would otherwise result in 500 errors (e.g., OWA, RWW, Companyweb, etc.).  There is no need to restart IIS.
Open a Web browser and test that you can once again connect to OWA, RWW and Companyweb successfully.
In IIS click to highlight the application pool for your new site (e.g., “test-site”).  In the right-hand pane, click “Advanced Settings”.  Ensure that “Enable 32-Bit Applications” – second item from the top – is set to “True” for this application pool specifically.
Lastly, jump up and down for joy!  Hopefully now, everything is working.  Best of luck!! ..Paul D (MCP).

First, it would be a good idea for you to specify what distro of Linux you're using, as not all are supported by Adobe.
Second, this is probably your problem right here:
    http://askubuntu.com/questions/40416/why-is-lib-libc-so-6-missing
In a nutshell, CF expects the 32-bit version of libc.so.6 to be in /lib, but it's probably not. You might be able to modify the installer to point to the correct location for that file, or you might be able to create a symlink to the file - but as the above link describes, creating a symlink might have negative consequences.
As for installing CF 8 64-bit, that's only available with Enterprise, not Standard. If you want CF Standard 64-bit, you need to upgrade to CF 9.

  • Problems Installing ColdFusion 9 (64 bit) on Windows 7 and IIS 7.5

Problem:  Empty response for static Files including images, CSS and js files. The response code is 200 OK, but there is no actual response (it's empty).
The ColdFusion Administration web site works correctly except it's not displaying any images, css and js. Why it is serving up dynamic content and not static is a mystery.
Installed ColdFusion 9 (64 bit) Multiserver Option on Windows 7 running IIS 7.5.
I have verified that IIS 7.5 is correctly configured for Static Content for both the handler mappings and the modules.
The Configuration for IIS 7.5 install looks like this:
The ColdFusion web configuration tools shows that it is connected to all instances of IIS.
I have uninstalled ColdFusion9 and IIS 7.5, and reinstalled many times but get the same problem: Empty responses for Static Files.
    Help is appreciated.

To Clarify the blurry picture, this is what the IIS 7.5 install options look like:

  • Advantages of installing IOP & EPM in distributed environment

    Hi,
What are advantages of installing IOP in distributed environment. I refered IOP installation guide and as per instructions, on 1 machine have IOP installation with Foundation service installed while on another machine install Foundation with HSS & other components configured. This is fine but again we need to copy IOP installation directory from IOP machine to EPM machine,in such case what is the advantage of having IOP on different machine.
Also when we update any settings in properties file like site.properties we need to copy this file to IOP installer on EPM machine which is very difficult to maintain from integrity perspective. In other way we end up having IOP installation on EPM machine.
Please let me know what are the advantages of installing IOP in distributed environment & what are the cases in which we should ask customer to go ahead with Distributed installation.

    Advantages:
    1.     Multiple users can be defined in the single HSS and can be shared by multiple iop instances hosted on same/different machines.
    2.     All the IOP instances can run independently on their individual JVM
    3.     The centralized EPM server can host services like HSS, OBIEE, Essbase etc.

  • Setting up CF9 in Distributed Environment

I need to install CF9 in a distributed environment, with the CFM pages on Server A, and the CF9 runtime stuff on Server B.
I have searched around all over the place and can't find a good set of instructions for this. In the past (with MX) we have just copied over the wsconfig folder (with the '1' and '2' folders), and set up the wsconfig/wsconfig.properties and wsconfig/jrun_ii6.ini files (on Server A) to point to Server B.
I think that I may need to install JRUN4 on the Server A, and then run the WSCONFIG.EXE (as is done on CF9) to set up the web sites. There are some docs on how to manually configure external web server connectors (KB 18724 and 19575), but those docs are for MX version.
Just need to be pointed to some helpful docs.
Server A and B are both Windows Server 2008 SR2, 64-bit, running on a VM instance, with IIS 7.5 installed.
    Thanks...Rick...

Well, to be clear, the significance of "distributed mode" deployment for CF is not that "the CFM pages on Server A, and the CF9 runtime stuff on Server B" but more specifically that the web server (IIS, in your case) is on Server A and CF is on Server B. Is that what you mean?
Before I go on, I'll add note that Dave Watts, a highly respected CFer, has argued in another thread here recently against using distributed mode and proposes an alternative that you may want to consider. See his brief discussion at:
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/3314201#3314201
Beyond that, I'll note that I just searched the CF docs for any discussion of this, and I find none. That should tell us something. Sure, if you google about coldfusion "distributed mode", you'll find an old CF6-era technote on it, in the context of doing clustering.
But in fact, I have discovered something quite interesting. The CF Installation guide says that "For more information on the Web Server Configuration Tool, including information on multihoming and distributed usage, see the Configuring and Administering ColdFusion guide." Yet, as I said, the Config/Admin guide makes no mention of "distributed" (except in the context of running verity in its own distribute mode).
So in fact, I looked at the two manuals in each release, 9, 8, 7, and 6.1, and in it's the same: the install guide says it's covered in the admin/config guide, but it is not. It's amazing (and of course, sad) that this has never been noticed in all these releases. Then again, few even know these manuals exist, so it's perhaps not as surprising given that running in distributed mode has indeed been something few have done.
So, Rick, I'd ask first if you really maybe meant only "I want the pages on a server separate from CF", or really "I want the web server separate from CF". And if the latter, consider Dave's alternative, especially since it seems clear that "distributed mode" has just not been even documented in now over 10 years.
    Hope that's helpful.
    /charlie

  • Managed to make run EPM 11.1.2.1 in a distributed environment?

    Hi,
    please see blow...
so far the installation and configuration worked well.
However, in shared services under the essbase node there are no applications available .
The same is when I try to priovision a user (for apps).
Can someone give me a hint how to take a closer look to solfe the problem.
Evething else seems to work fine. Essbase is up an running and it's accessible via the EAS console.
    Thank you in advance!
    Andre
    Hi all,
    a more general question:
Has anybody successfully managed to make run EPM 11.1.2.1 in a distributed environment?
If yes - please let me know it, just to give me a littel bit of hope.
I have tried to install and config a EPM 11.1.2.1 like this:
    All Servers Win208R2.
    1. Http and J2EE Server
    2. Essbase Server
    3. Others Server
    4. RDBMS-Server (Repository)
However the the OPMN process on the essbase server does not start and thus I cannot go the next steps in my install/conifg process.
Thank you in advance and best Regards.

    Hi Pablo,
    Thanks for your inputs
    - I am a bit familiar with F5's BIG/IP load-balancing methods - round-robin, least connections mode and dynamic ratio - while intelligently supporting session persistence.
    - We can also manage load balancing via the WebLogic Admin console, and as you have noted by the OHS as well - which I am not familiar with...
This is a newbie question - wouldn't having 3 different agents managing load-balancing complicate things..? As the WebLogic server sits on top of the OHS, I guess they work together to provide load-balancing and configuring the WebLogic for clustering/load-balancing should affect the OHS configuration as well. Is this how it works at the high-level or is it more complicated?
The EPM System Configurator creates the required cluster and adds servers to the cluster when we deploy the Web applications in the final step of the configuration. So we need not manually configure WebLogic for clustering. But when and where does one configure load-balancing..?
Thanks again.. Essbase infrastructure is indeed a vast topic as it is interesting... :)

  • Hyperion 11.1.1.3 Installation and Configuration on a Distributed Environ:

    Hi All,
We have Only Hyperion Production Servers on a Distributed Environment. Now, we are thinking to create new instance that will be called Development Environment and that must be replica or mirror of Prod Environment. For that we cloned Production Servers.
Since we have all four servers Cloned for Development Environment now I need to Configure those all four instances.....I never worked with installations and configurations ...I do have knowledge and little experience with single tier or one system installation and configuration but distributed environment....I need your support and guideline to configure these boxes...
Our Distributed Environment lay out is as follows:-
We have installed Hyperion on Windows Server 2003 and Database is SQL Server
    (1) We have Four Servers

We have roughly 8 servers in our distributed prod environment. We are using red linux for everything but the epma and report server which you need a windows server. The way we installed was to start with the base server with Shared services and establish that one and whatever else you want on that server. From there it really didnt matter as you go through the installs it will ask you where your shared services box is located. The only problem we had was that some of our boxes are behind a WHI cage where we had to open up ports. Other then that i really didnt follow a specific sequence of installation after shared services. Hope that helps.

  • Installing coldfusion 9 kills WSUS; ODBC connectors on CF9 64bit

    Two questions.
I have a server set up at home. I have 8 PCs conencted to it. It is used to run file services, WSUS to keep PCs up to date, and a home web server with some CF apps I've written over the years. This is a home environment, not a corporate environment so SQL / Exchange etc are out of the question.
The server used to run XP x86 with CF7. Everything just worked. All of the time.
But I wanted to make use of more memory, which means x64. I also updated the hardware and expanded my storage to 13TB. So I installed Windows 2008 R2 x64.
Got everything working perfectly, without Coldfusion. As soon as I installed Coldfusion my woes started. It installed properly first shot, which is a rare occurence if what I read here and around the net are any indication (I count my blessings that it worked first shot).
I installed CF 9.0.1 x64. WSUS ceased to function. All clients started getting download errors 0x80244018 etc. From googling the problem it seems that the problem was the handlers that CF9 added (But I could be wrong about that). WSUS runs on the same IIS7.5 server as my home website, but on port 8530.
And of course, there appear to be no 64 bit ODBC drivers. I just use MS Access and excel for all my needs. I have about half a dozen apps I have written, most of which I have become dependent on for many reasons. I have no need, desire, or justification to invest in expensive technologies. Upgrading my CF7 to CF9 is going to cost an arm and a leg.
So, rather than learning a new language like PHP..
Q1: How do I install CF9 without breaking WSUS?
Q2: How do I continue to use MS Access to access my mdb files when I have x64 O/S, X64 CF9?

Surely someone has Coldfusion running on Windows 2008 R2 with WSUS?
On the same box?  I doubt it would be that common.  I don't think it would be very common to be running WSUS from an application server box.  Obviously I can see why you're doing it, and it's a reasonable use case, but I don't imagine it's that common.
Now... I am a CF developer, not a CFAdministrator, and haven't been a system's dude for about ten years now, so my knowledge on administering Windows and CF and all that sort of thing is very rusty, but the troubleshooting techniques should be similar.
You mention WSUS talks to IIS on port 8350 (when it's working).  Have you checked what's listening on port 8350 once CF is installed?  I'm unaware of CF listening to any port in the 8xxx range other than the one you tell it to for the inbuilt webserver (which will be installed and listening even if you configured your CF install to use IIS).  However it usually listens on 8500.
I'd also do a search through the CF / JRun dir for references to 8350.
Secondly... I believe (but this is said with only about 50% confidence) one can export an IIS config to a text file these days?  Export the config before and after CF interferes with things, and do a diff.  What's different?
That said, I presume they're both not working from the same website, so I think it's probably more likely to be at a network level than at application level.
And when you have CF installed, the CF side of things runs fine (other than lack of ODBC drivers)?  Either way, scour the logs for both systems at start-up, to see if there's anything interesting.  You don't mention having looked at log files.
As for ODBC drivers... forget it.  Port your data to a Derby DB (it should be able to do anything Access can do, I should think?), or MySQL or something and be done with it.

  • CF10 on Windows server 2008 (64bit): 32-bit CF cannot be installed, but 64-bit can.

Hi, I have exhaused my research and ways of fixing this issue.
    I have a Windows Server 2008 (64-bit).
I am able to install 64-bit CF10 on it and CF websites run just fine.
On the same machine, I have a ASP website that must be in run in 32-bit and within this website there are some ColdFusion pages. So I have to install CF10 32 bit. So I uninstalled CF10 64bit.
When installing CF10 32 bit, I always got error message:
Cannot configure IIS connector. Enable the required option ASP.NET, ISAPI Extensions and ISAPI Filter in IIS under Windows Features and try again.
I did lot of online research and found RELATED posts, but none of them worked for me. Basically, in my case I have the IIS following installed
    ISAPI Extensions
    ISAPI Filter
    ASP.NET
    CGI
but I alway got the above error message. Cannot think of other reasons.
Any help is really appreciated!!! I have been working on this thing for the past three working days.
    Regards.

    Hi,
I saw your post which is similar to the problem I'm trying to solve.  I'm not sure if I need to post a new topic, but I thought just add it to your post.
I installed CF10-64bit on Windows 2008 server (64 bit).  When I opened the CF admin, it gave me an error - HTTP Error 500.0 - Internal Server Error. The page cannot be displayed because an internal server error has occurred.  Module: IsapiModule, Handler: cfmHandler, Error Code: 0x800700c1.  After searching for solution in the internet, I finally made it work after changing the DefaultAppPool which is used by the CFIDE in the advance settings, the "Enable 32-bit Applications" to False.
Now, my problem is I have an ASP application which requires that the application pool advance settings must be set to True for "Enable 32-bit Applications".  I created another application pool for this application.  It woks fine.  However, this ASP application calls some CF pages and I'm having a problem because the CF10 is set to use a different application pool with diferent setting for "Enable 32-bit Applications".
In order for my application to work, it seems that I need to install the CF10 32 bit version.  Am I right?  Or is there a work around for my issue?
Thanks in advance for any help.
I'm going to create a new post for this.

  • Coldfusion 64 bit windows installer stops working after recent microsoft update

Coldfusion 64 bit windows installation stops working after recent microsoft updates and how I worked around it.
My question is at the end.
Trying to deploy coldfusion 9 enterprise 64 bit trial  version onto a Windows 2003 64 bit datacenter OS with all OS updates from MS (as of 4-7-2011).
Steps taken (remember, this is all 64 bit):
    1. Installed the base OS which was slipstreamed with SP2.
    2. Checked w/ microsoft and installed 63 OS updates.
    3. Launch the CF9 trial exe.
    4. As soon as the first screen finishes (the one that looks like  it is extracting files) then the second screen pops up (the one that  simply says CF Adobe Coldfusion 9) and the progress bar quickly moves  95% to the right and the install application quits. No error, no nothing. No log file either.
    5. After a moment of incredulous silence (and retrying/rebooting,  etc), I started to google it. I found nothing. However, I did find a  post (thanks dspent!) that was helpful in that it told how he was able  to get at a log file of sorts, by pre-extracting the  coldfusion_9_WWE_win64.exe file and launching the adobe_cf.exe by hand.  (Dspent's install snafu was different than mine, but his post was very  valuable and got me started in the right direction.)
    6. Got a copy of rarunzipper and extracted the coldfusion_9_WWE_win64.exe file.
    7. From the windows directory created by step 6, I launched adobe_cf.exe.
    8. Same thing (the install application quits. No error, no nothing. No log file either.).
    9. I examine the hs_err_pidxxxx.log file (where the xxxx is a number).
    10. I see inside that file an ominous message: "A fatal error has been detected by the Java Runtime" then "Problematic frame ntdll.dll" and then "The crash happened outside the Java Virtual Machine in native code".
    11. OK, so now I am thinking ntdll.dll !! Native code !! It is like Java is telling me that for some reason it can't dance with the OS.
    12. On a hunch, I decided to test a CF install again on a server with just the base install of W3K3 64 SP2 (ie: skipping step 2 above this time).
    13. Bingo! That install works.
    14. Therefore, one of the 63 patches I had downloaded from MS had triggered a problem with the CF installer.
    15. Back on the first server (the one with the MS security  patches installed and the one that CF won't install on). In the CF file  adobe_cf.lax (one of the files extracted in step 6) there is a line that  mentions where the install gets it's java. Find that file, and check java version installer is using. It is using 1.6.0_14-b08.
    16. Off to the Java website, and there is a newer version of java (1.6.0_24-b07). Downloaded and installed it.
    17. Modify a line in adobe_cf.lax :
       before
         lax.nl.current.vm=resource\\jre\\bin\\java.exe
       after
         lax.nl.current.vm=C:\\program files\\java\\jre6\\bin\\java.exe
(that assumes that you let step 16 install to the default location)
    Save the file.
    18. Run the install ... ** IT WORKS ** !
Obviously, the built in java provided with the CF installer is  no longer compatible with some change introduced by some recent MS  update on the W2K3 64b SP2 platform.
And now the interesting part. Although I forced the installer to used the new java, it did not incorporate it into the cf build (ie: in jvm.config, you still see c:/coldfusion9/runtime/jre AND the  version of java.exe that is in that directory is the original version,  not the newer version I forced the installer to use).
On the surface, CF seems to run OK, but I have not done any application testing yet.
    And finally my
    ** QUESTION **
Would it be appropriate to simply point the java.home var to the new java directory? I see that the directory structures and files are not exactly the same  (close though) so I certainly don't want to break things by doing this,  but instinct tells me that if the installer broke using the older  version, then something else is gonna break down the road if I don't use  the new version. On the other hand, the differences in the  directories and files is enough that it makes me very nervous, with my  limitied java skill set, to make this decision.
    Thanks in advance!!
    Byron

    Hi Byron,
Wow great post no doubt much of the information will be useful for those on Win03 SP2 +. Have to say not come across similar problem on Win08 r2 SP1 +.
So to your question. Adobe security bulletin (http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/894/cpsid_89440.html) recommends running CF8 and CF9 with JVM 1.6.0_24. The bulletin does not say how to do that. I take you installed JDK and not just JRE 1.6.0_24? Post install of JDK follow these steps:
Stop CF - SERVICES.msc stop "ColdFusion 9 Application Server".
Take a copy of CF\runtime\bin\jvm.config - so you got a backup.
Edit CF\runtime\bin\jvm.config find line "java.home=" and comment it out eg:
    #java.home=C:/ColdFusion9/runtime/jre
Add new line like so and save jvm.config:
    java.home=C:/Program Files/Java/jdk1.6.0_24/jre
Note  there the slashes and the location of the JRE (runtime) - you need to  point to the one in JDK because the other JRE in C:\Program  Files\Java\jre6 will be missing a DLL.
    Start CF via SERVICES.msc.
    HTH, Carl.

  • Deploy to Application Server Failed on a distributed environment

    Hi All,
I am trying to configure new Hyperion verion 11.1.2.2 on distributed environment but during configuring calculation manager to application server failed and getting error message like "Deploy to Application Server Failed". I am not sure what is issue and how to fix it. I have tried to read log files but I am not able to undersantd where to look and debug this issue.
My Hyperion Environment over view as a below:-
1- I have used Microsoft VMWARE to build my Hyperion Enviornment
2- I have created 1 window server 2003 domain and made 4 clients of that domain. (All these systems have windows server 2003 installed). I have given name to each client server i.e. System A, System B, System C, System D
3- I have installed SQL 2005 and created databases for all Hyperion components i.e. Shared services, calculation manager, epma on a system A
5- I have installed and configured foundation services and weblogic server on a system B. (In this system I have installed and configured shared services, weblogic, workspace, and able to deploye application server on a same system)
6- On a system A I am able to complete installation for hyperion Performance Management Architect and Calculation Manager and able to finish all type of configuration for these two components but as soon as system trying to configure any related to APPLICATION SERVER services it fails to configure. On a configuration summary page system shows everything is configured but APPLICATION SERVER says FAILED wrtten on a red color letters.
I have explored log files and found that Calculation Manager application server failed to deploy or Deploy to Application server failed.....
Since, I am not sure where to look and how to debug this issue I am requesting to all hyperion friends to help and guide me to debug as I have been trying to install this product since last friday and still no out put....
I will be really thankful if someone share his or her wisdom to help me....
Thank you to all in Advance.....
    Thanks,

Did you install all the WebLogic web applications on the foundation machine as well as the machine they are going to be deployed to.
"On the machine on which you plan to administer the WebLogic Server, you must install all Web applications for all applications you plan to deploy on any machine in the environment. (The WebLogic Administration Server is installed and deployed on the Foundation Services machine.)"

  • Hyperion EPM Installation in a distributed environment...

    Hi all,
I am planning to install Hyperion products in a distributed environment. I have three machines say, Machine A, Machine B, Machine C. All of the machines have Windows 2003 operating system. And only Machine B and Machine C have Application Server installed. Now I give a brief structure as what machine holds which products-
    Machine A:-
    Oracle 11g
    Essbase Server
    Machine B:-
    Foundation Services- Shared Services
    Essbase Studio
    Essbase Integration Services
    Smart Search
    Administration Services
    Provider Services
    Habnet
    Essbase Client
    Machine C:-
    EPMA
    Planning
    Workspace
I create a separate database for each component, say, to configure Essbase I have Hyess database, to configure Planning I have Hyplan database.
And I configure Shared Services to the same database, say, Hyshs from each machine. In that case I just follow the previously congigured database.
Machine B and Machine C components are deployed to their respective Application Server.
Can anyone please tell me if this is proper or not? Any kind of modification or recommendation would be appreciated.
    Thanks.

    Hi John,
thanks for your response. Yes, the Process Manager does not start. I had a look at the Event Viewer. And it shows error and the error properties description is something like this-
