.install files and how they should work

i already looked up the wiki and the forum and found nothing realy related to this.
i am able to set an .install script in the PKGBUILD, but i would like to know how it should work.
i got an game that i would like to add to the AUR but the problem is that its not actually creating a hidden folder in home to save the settings and all.
so i would like to move all the config files and ofcourse the save directory to a hidden home folder and link it to /usr/share/{game}.
i know that i cant do that while building the package itself, but i would like to know WHEN this install script gets executet.
in my opinion, this install script should do what i told above, move the files, link it to the destination.
so, is there actually a site where i can lookup the install= command?

isnt giving write acces to directorys within /usr or /opt a very very ugly workaround?
i mean, even if its not that easy to solve it otherwise...

i played around a little bit with your tip of changing the group, but i came to a point where i am stuck.
the starterscript itself just cd's into /opt/StarTrade(the game) and runs the, um... 'other' starterscript 'StarTrade'.
the starter in the game directory contains the following lines:

LD_LIBRARY_PATH=$LD_LIBRARY_PATH:$exec_path $exec_path/engine.x86
this is because the game itself got the fmod lib within the directory, as far as i heard because its to exotic or... um... whatever^^
so, if you start this script you get the following messege:
appstub.linux signal handler 11/opt/StarTrade/StarTrade: line 3: 21018 Speicherzugriffsfehler LD_LIBRARY_PATH=$LD_LIBRARY_PATH:$exec_path $exec_path/engine.x86
starting it from the pkg/ directory where you packet it WILL work, maybe because it is in my $HOMEspace, i dont really know

and it whont work if it is startet with the 'games' group, even if it is installed in $HOME

finaly it worked, i wrote a sript that backs up all "need write access" files to a backup/ directory and copys them to a .homedirectory, the only question is, "will it work on multi-user systems?"
i cant test this now, i didnt even testet the pack itself because my "testdummy-of-choice" is currently offline, but thankyou for your help

In labwindows after creating the uir then header file is create automatically. There it has define some symbolic constant. As examples of colview.h(from the examples of labwindows )

If anyone explains, it will be a great help.When creating a UIR file, CVI editor takes care of assigning constants to the panels / controls you create in it.
The conceptual framework is the following (assuming to treat the file you have reported in your message):
- Within a single UIR file all panels have a unique ID, which is the one you pass to LoadPanel when loading a panel into memory. LoadPanel (0, "myfile.uir", MAINPNL); is then translated to panelHandle = LoadPanel (0, "myfile.uir", 1); , that is: "load the first panel in the uir file". The panel in memory is then assigned a handle, which is guaranted unique by the OS and saved in panelHandle variable
- Addressing a control in a panel is done e.g. using SetCtrlVal (panelHandle, MAINPNL_NEWTEST, xxx); , which again is translated to SetCtrlVal (panelHandle, 1, 3); that is: "Set control #3 in the panel identified by panelHandle to value xxx".
You must not modify the include file associated to the UIR as it is fully maintained by the IDE and is rewritten each time you save the UIR file.
That conceptual framework has some advantages and some caveats:
- You can load the same panel more then once in your program: each instance is independent from the others as each panel handle is unique; in some occasions it may be helpful, e.g. if you need to handle several identical equipments connected to your PC and you can load the same control panel for each unit connected maintaining each of them independent
- If the panel handle is wrong, the system does not warn you of this as it does not know of the symbolic names you are using; if you try that SetCtrlVal command with a wrong handle you are trying to manipulate a control on a panel different from the one you intend: supposing actual panel idientified by the handle has control #3 the maximum you can expect is that you receive an error in case you pass e.g. a string to a numeric, but if controls are of the same type you have no errors or warning at all! This is particularly important when addressing controls on pages of a tab control: each page is really a separate panel with its proper handle that you must retrieve with GetPanelhandleFromTabPage command before addressing the controls on it

IPhoto 6 and how it should work with edited images
While iPhoto 6 is an improvement over previous versions in the way images are handled it is still a far cry from being perfect. At last, iPhoto does not create a duplicate within its own library but allows — through the advanced option tab — to work through an alias to the original file, thereby preserving my library structure.
Two problems remain:
a) when an image is deleted outside iPhoto the corresponding alias in iPhoto is not deleted upon startup. And getting rid of the ensuing error dialogue is unnerving. Why can iPhoto not browse through the original library and update its aliases when I start the application?
b) when an image is edited in iPhoto a “modified version” is created in iPhoto’s library. Grrr.... back to square one. I don’t want all that clutter on my harddrive and while I can see that some users need to have that safety belt I would wish for an option to tell iPhoto to change the original directly (and not create a copy). I don’t work exclusively with iPhoto only and don’t want to think each and every time where the most recent version of a photo is stored.
So, for the time being I’m back to iView Media... which is not supported through all the media browsers that access iPhoto’s library but still gives me all the control I need (and demand). If anybody knows a solution how to solve the above two problems, please let me know.Yeah, I started doing this when I found out about iPhoto’s new alias feature. But then I needed to retouch a photo — and there’s no such feature in iView whereas iPhoto’s retouching is rather good. Not to speak of the other cool editing features that came with iPhoto 6. On the other hand, and unfortunately if I may say so, iView 3 has no new effects and tools to offer. So, that was yesterday when I posted the message. Granted, I don’t need to edit all my images in iPhoto, but it still ***** big time that I cannot tell the **** program to apply changes to the original. Been using Macs for more than 15 years and while I understand all the safety belts and user convenience Apple’s rigid iLife thinking is in my way to be creative and productive. At least there’s hope for iPhoto 7... after all, Steve Jobs & Co. realized with iPhoto 6 that the majority does not want copies of the originals in iPhoto plus the edited versions.

I'm in prepress, working mainly with Quark XPress for advertising files and with Word, Photoshop, everything, for many years. My older computer is the workhorse with Quark 6.5 and CS4 and OSX 10.4.11. Everything is set up for me to produce PDF x1a files by printing .ps files from Quark and Word, and InDesign.
My newer computer, OSX 10.9.4, must now be used to a greater extent. So I have Quark 9 and 10 and now Creative Suite for the Cloud. But I don't have any Adobe PDF printer which I select when I print .ps files and place into my Distiller Watched Folder. I by pass selecting the Adobe PDF printer in Word and just print straight to .ps. The .ps file just sits in the Watched Folder and no longer flows into Distiller, processed and out. Is this the way of the future? I just want a smooth, fast flow for PDF's. I want them to be PDF x1a compliant for hi-quality printing.
Thought you might help to give me info as to how one uses Distiller (or not) with the new operating system and latest programs. Can't seem to find any info as of yet by searching the Adobe FAQ's and the Internet in general.

My MacBook Pro came with Lion pre-installed so I can't re-download it from the app store. Is it possible to get the installESD.dmg file and how can I get it if I can't re-download Lion in Apple Store option?
FYI Mac OS X is not designed to be installed on additional Macs, unless you purchased it from the App Store, in which case you can make as many copies as you wish and install it on as many Macs as you own.

I have an application on 4 computers. On 3, PDF files open as they should, withing the application. On the fourth the file is placed in "downloads" and then opens in a separate tab on the desktop(not inside the application). Any ideas on settings that might be causing this? It happens whether the application starts in IE11, Google Chrome or Firefox.
This happens whether the "client" signs in over the internet or directly to the local host server.

I am using Linux mint 12 with firefox.
Everytime I try to type something in the search box a further box appears to tell me this is a JSON file and what program should I use to open it.
This has only happened since reinstalling my system a couple of weeks ago.
I am not really interested in what a json file is I simply want to get rid of this pop up box.Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

Has anyone tried syncing their photos to iTunes with the cable in addition to how it should work via wi-fi on iCloud? On the Apple support info page, it says you should do both types oof backup. The Genius Bar told me 2x not to do both. What experiences has the community had? I'm also having syncing issues with photos most recently as well as contact updates. It sounds like you are mixing up several different things (or not using the terminology that Apple uses).
One thing is backup. You can backup via icloud or via iTunes and there is no reason you cannot do both -- I do and the second link below from Apple gives instructions. Doing a backup will include photos from the Camera Roll in the backup but you will not be able to see the results -- all of the backup data will be stored on iCloud or on your computer in files that are not designed to be accessed by you for any purpose other than restoring to your phone in the event of a problem. If you simply want to transfer photos from an iPhone to a computer, the terminology Apple uses for that is "import" and it is done without iTunes. New photos (taken after you change the setting) can be done via PhotoStream which is a cloud based option. The other option is via cable. Instructions for both: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4083

What are LRPREV files, and how do I open them?
I uploaded some pictures onto my laptop from my phone. They seem to have disappeared completely, as they are no longer on my phone, in any of my laptop folders (i've checked several times) or my laptop recycling bin. Having said that, many LRPREV files have appeared in a couple of my folders, which I had not seen before. Putting 2 and 2 together, it seems like the photos from the phone may have unintentionally been converted into this file type.
My main problem is that I can't open them, so I can't see them to find out. What are LRPREV files and how can I open them? Otherwise, would I be able to convert them into a file type which I should be able to view?
I would also be grateful if anyone had any suggestions of where my photos may have gone to.
Thanks.I am no expert but have had LR since LR3. Did you import the photos into your LR catalog? It sounds like you have at least viewed the photos using LR or they would not show up in your LRPREV files. LRPREV files are those that have been at least looked at in LR because LR automatically makes previews (thumbnails) of photos you have actually added to a catalog or at least attempted to import. When you upload photos from your phone what folder do you send them to? Why are the original files no longer on your phone, do you automatically delete photos after you import them? You shouldn't do that until you at least confirm you can see them on your computer and have backed them up to at least a second, preferably offline, location. I would open your LR catalog and look for for a line in your navigation module indicating recent imports? I probably haven't helped you much.

When I open iPhoto 9.2.1 it says that my library needs to be upgraded but when I upgrade the library I am trying to open (33 GB worth of pictures from 2006) the new application says it cannot read the files and how to find them on the system to reimport?! and then I'd like to erase the original files since the space requirement is huge!!!! Why is upgrading software iPhoto such a pain. I've gotta get a presentation done and all I get for my money is roadblock!!!
hello, it sounds like the library is damaged.
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. -
My mail forms created by muse 2014.0.1.30 do not work. PHP 5.4 is enabled by my hoster, so they should work. Can anyone help me, for these forms are crucial for my business. The forms confirm delivery, but the mails are not recieved. No spam filters enabled.

I would like to know which app/software in MAC gives us the same feature that is provided by System Restore in Windows, and how does that work.
Time Machine is one such program, although it is a recursive backup program which offers limited archive capability, based on the capacity of the backup destination, and it requires you set it up before you start editing your files. Some programs are also Versions aware, which offers a kind of restore capability by file. Again needs to be setup before you start editing.
