Install oracle 9.0.1 on suse 8.1

Hy all,
during installation Oracle client on Linux (suse 8.1)
i get the following error message (linking the ins_plsql.mk):
/usr/lib/gcc-lib/i486-suse-linux/3.2/../../../../i486-suse-linux/bin/ld: cannot find -lclntsh
collect2: ld returned 1 exit status
Who can help?

I had this problem before, the soultion was to do either of the following option then after finsihin press on retry and i hope it will work.
(The soultion i got from an Oracle OCP, so thinks to him)
Solutions for the relinking problem seen with Oracle 9.0.1 on Red Hat 7.1.
Option 1: (remove "-z defs" from genclntsh file) (Workaround)
1. When you get errors from OUI installer, open a window, and cd to the Oracle Home installation target location
2. Set Oracle environment ORACLE_HOME to this target directory.
3. Use editor to modify $ORACLE_HOME/bin/genclntsh file, to remove -z defs from it.
4. Then run this script $ORACLE_HOME/bin/genclntsh to create Oracle libraries.
5. Go back to OUI error window, and click on retry bottom to continue.
Option 2: (update the binutils)
You have to follow these steps to solve the re-linking problem:
1. Update the binutils-2.10.91.0.2-3 to binutils-2.10.91.0.4-1
2. You can get the binutils patch at the following URL:
http://www.ibiblio.org/pub/Linux/kernel.org/pub/linux/devel/binutils/binutils-2.10.91.0.4-1.i386.rpm
3. Relink Oracle binaries.

    Hi ,
    I suggest you to have a check with otn.oracle.com where oracle is supported with this OS. If so there must be some installation docs available.
    cheers,

  • Unable to install Oracle Developer Suite 10 on SuSe Linux 11.0

    Hi all,
    I have installed Oracle 11g on SuSe Linux 11.0 with no issues. I am unable to install Oracle Developer Suite10.12.02 on same (SuSe 11.0). The installation gets to about 94% and then fails with the following error:

    Hi Hub,
    Done that, nothing:

    On the off-chance that it had something to do with installing Oracle 11.0 with ODS Developer 10.0, I've rolled my database installation back too, so now I have:

    Hi all,
    the Problem ist still allive ^^
    By Installing the RPM Package i get some errors concerning the folder /var/tmp/. I think this is the problem why the initial database is not installed. So I´ve done the steps again with the comman ./createdb.sh.
    The naked DB is installed (without APEX i think). So i installed the APEX 4.0 again an i found on my external Linux Server (V-Server !) the folowing Index :
    Name
    Last modified
    Size
    i/ Tue, 14 Sep 2010 20:26:24 GMT
    public/ Tue, 14 Sep 2010 17:31:36 GMT
    sys/ Tue, 14 Sep 2010 17:31:43 GMT
    A folder /i/ written by the Apex, but still no Apex !
    The DB works correctly by Using Putty an start SQL+ on the V-Server but external connect is still not pssible.
    HTTP Access in the DB ist set to LOCALACCESS=false
    HTTP Port = 8080
    Listener = 1521
    TNSPING external DB is ok, but connecting via SQL or something still got erros written above (ORA-12514 )
    by connecting with IE8 i have to connect with sys/pw . But there happened nothing after that exept showing the folders.
    A firewall isn´t running on my V-Server because there is even teamspeak running with 6 servers.
    I´ll try with the ORARUN.RPM and hope ist will work ^^
    Add :
    I tried ORARUN.RPM but the same Errors coming as installing the ORACLE-UNIV.RPM
    Updating etc/sysconfig/oracle...

  • Error installing Oracle Application Server OCA on SuSE 11.1

    Hi,
    I am installing OCA on a Linux SuSE 11.1.
    The Configuration assisent::
    Oracle Application Certificate Authority configuration assistant Failed.
    I Get following information from Oracle installer:
    Output generated from configuration assistant "Oracle Application Server Certificate Authority Configuration Assistant":
    /home/oracle/OraHome/oca/perl/bin/perl: error while loading shared libraries: libnsl.so.1: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
    Configuration assistant "Oracle Application Server Certificate Authority Configuration Assistant" failed
    Is there anyone who has a solution for this Error?
    Best Regards
    Tommy

    Try to comment out the LD_ASSUME_KERNEL entry in file $ORACLE_HOME/oca/bin/cminst.
    The entry was put there for bug 4527581 - OCA fails on RH4.0, but will generate error on some more recent Linux distributions.

  • Can't install Oracle on SuSE Linux 9.3 Pro

    Hi,
    i try since three weeks to install Oracle 9.2 Release 2. My last Problem was,
    that i didn't know how to log in as the created Oracle User. This Problem is solved.
    But when i install Oracle as the Oracle User and try to configure the Administrator
    Group, i get the error, that i don't have the specific permission to change that,
    so i gave the Oracle User all Rights about every directory (chown oracle:dba / ).
    After that the Installation proceed without any problem, but after the Installation,
    the Database Configuration Assistant failed to install and two other Assistants, too.
    So, i don't know where there problem is. I fulfilled every pre-installation Task, but
    it still isn't possible for me, to install Oracle 9.2 on a SuSE Linux 9.3 Professional
    System.
    If anyone could help me along this Installation, i would be very thankful.
    Thanks a lot
    Daniel

    But when i don't give the oracle user all rights, it isn't possible to proceed with theinstallation
    But if you give that rights then it's a security hole. According to your words I guess you have similar enviroment settings:
    ORACLE_BASE=/
    ORACLE_HOME=/<directory_name>
    Why you not installing on deeper directory such as /opt or some your own directory? For example
    ORACLE_BASE=/myoracledir
    ORACLE_HOME=$ORACLE_BASE/<directory_name>
    Then chown -R oracle:dba /myoracledir.
    Then oracle will be owner just for /myoracle directory and all its subdirectories.
    i just could look at the error details, but they didn't described the erroranyway.
    That's not so true. Error log you could find in /tmp/OraInstallYYYY-MM-DD_HH_MI_SS..

  • Installing Oracle 9i R2 on SuSE 8.2 Pro

    I am trying to install Oracle 9i Release 2 on SuSE 8.2 Pro.
    I receive the following error message in the Universal Installer after selecting General Purpose as the Database Configuration:
    "Thrown when the IP address of a host cannot be determined"
    Selecting Retry or Continue just rethrows the same error.
    I have completed the Tasks to Perform as root User and Tasks to Perform as the oracle User as outlined in the Installation Guide.
    Any help in resolving this error would be appreciated.

    Hi,
    I got the solution ;-)
    My problems seem to bee caused by a obvisuously buggy/incompatible version of JRE in oracle's installationfileset.
    I resolved the Problem by editing the JRE_LOCATION-variable in Disk1/install/linux/oraparam.ini (see below) to point to the root of my own local installation of Java 2 (java version "1.3.1_02" Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build 1.3.1_02-b02)).
    start of the original file:
    [Oracle]
    DISTRIBUTION=TRUE
    SOURCE=../../stage/products.jar
    LICENSE_LOCATION=
    JRE_LOCATION=../../stage/Components/oracle.swd.jre/1.3.1.0.0/1/DataFiles/Expanded/jre/linux
    OUI_LOCATION=../../stage/Components/oracle.swd.oui/2.2.0.12.0/1/DataFiles/Expanded
    JRE_MEMORY_OPTIONS=" -mx200m"
    modified version:
    [Oracle]
    DISTRIBUTION=TRUE
    SOURCE=../../stage/products.jar
    LICENSE_LOCATION=
    JRE_LOCATION=/usr/lib/SunJava2-1.3.1/jre
    OUI_LOCATION=../../stage/Components/oracle.swd.oui/2.2.0.12.0/1/DataFiles/Expanded
    JRE_MEMORY_OPTIONS=" -Xmx300m"
    After this change everything worked (besides some minor problems with the installed demo-database).

  • Oracle 8.1.7 on SuSE 6.4

    Can anyone recommend a procedure to install Oracle 8.1.7 on SuSE 6.4. It is for practice only so security is not an issue. My unix/linux is basic and I am new to Oracle. I am doing an Oracle dba subject at uni this semester and need access to 8i at home to reinforce it. System is running on AMD 400MHz with 192Mb ram and 400Mb swap space.
    Regards,
    Peter

    just read installation prerequired and run
    ./runInstaller. See also on www.suse.com they give an orarun.rpm to finish install.
    (to start/stop database on boot/shutdown).
    I tryed RH,Mdk before and I had no problem to ran Oracle on a Pentium MMX 200 with 64 Mo ram :-) 256 Mo swap with suse 6.3 whithout any patches and database files on reiserfs ... but it's just for practice to.

  • Oracle 8.1.5 on SUSE Linux 7.2 - Is it worth it?

    Hello-
    I have been trying to install Oracle 8.1.5EE on SUSE 7.2 for
    days now and the installation has been the worst I have
    encountered in many a year! I am thinking about scapping this
    whole thing and moving onto another RDMS. If and when I get
    Oracle running on Linux will I be faced with these same
    installtion problems in my day to day maintenence? For such a
    well known company I sure thought they could come up with
    something slicker than this!
    Problems so far:
    JRE - Too many to list.
    OraInstaller:
    1. Does not show any Networking options
    2. Reports not enough space for a 4GB /u01
    3. Even when I select to "not" to run dbassist it does anyways
    Patch:
    1. I had to dig through mounds of documentation to find this
    patch was neccesary.
    2. Reboot. ?
    dbassist:
    1. Unset NLS_LANG etc...
    2. SIGFAULTS halfway thru process.
    At this point I am ready to bag Oracle and go with PostgreSQL
    Sincerely,
    Davin Flatten

    Look, nobody should be going to anything other than 901 on 7.2.
    Do you like to waste your time? Fastcenter sells these systems,
    they install without a flaw and they're rock solid. Why install
    a version that's unsupported ?!?

  • Oracle 8.1.7 on Suse 7.3

    I am installing Oracle 8.1.7 on Suse Linux 7.3. I am getting the error 'Error invoking target relink of make file /oracle/precomp/lib/ins_precomp.mk' at 65% of relinking. I tried with unsetting LD_SELF_CONTAINED as mentioned here and re-running genclntsh under $ORACLE_HOME/bin, but it gives a lot of systax errors and finally the message create library /oracle/lib/libclntst8.a The relinking error continues. Is there any other solution?

    Hallo,
    Can you send me the page 817_73.html ?
    The link is not accessable !
    Thanks

  • Can't install Oracle 8i or 9i but DB2 installs fine on SUSE 7.3

    I have tried installing Oracle 8.1.6 & 8.1.7 on SUSE 7.3 and each time the install program crashes.
    I've tried installing 9i on SUSE 7.3 and when it finally installs and I try to create a database I get OUT of Memory errors and that fails.
    When I tried IBM's DB2 for Linux it installed just fine, no problems. I don't want to have to learn DB2 but looks like Oracle is no help....
    Anybody know how to succesfully install Oracle on Suse 7.3 or later? If not I guess I'll have to learn DB2.

    Have you checked the website of SuSe ?
    http://www.suse.com/us/support/oracle/index.html
    Have you enough swap space (about 1 Gb) and enough free space in your temporary directory (400 Mb) ?
    Installing from CD-Roms instead of copied versions on the hard-disk will also reduce the memory consumption (this was the case on my pc).

    I found another thread in this forum where you can look up how to extend your swap space (look at the bottom of that thread):
    re:Out of swap space during 9iAS install.
    I am very new to Linux, I am very much disappointed,
    I installed Linux with lots of hopes that I can
    Install Oracle tools easily on Linux and work
    comfortably. Now If I cannot intall a small database
    Oracle XE, even with 1GB Ram and 25GB harddrive on
    Linux, I don't realize why people run for Linux.
    I could Oracle XE on windows on a machine with 512
    mb ram in 4 minutes.Maybe you should take into consideration that you are not so "new" to windows and that each new system has a learning curve.
    Someone please help.. in detail. How to resize the
    swap partition at this point.Look in the provided link.
    I have very limitted or no knowldge in Linux.Maybe you should change that or stay with what you know. I don't see any other way ...
    As a sidenote, each command under Linux does have a so called "man" page (from manual). You also need to open a shell to access those commands as shown in the thread.
    And please, take a look at the commands in that thread before you start implementing, since for example the dd command seems only to create a file with a size of 512M.
    Knowing how to use a search engine would also be a valuable asset in your current position.
    C.
