Install Tomcat on Vista, but wrong path

Hi
I am new to Tomcat 6, I installed jdk 5 on Vista, but the jre is 6.
I set the JAVA_HOME : C:\Java\jdk5\bin (I changed the install folder name to be jdk5)
PATH: C:\Java\jdk15\bin
CLASSPATH: C:\Java\jdk15\bin
CATALINA_HOME: C:\Tomcat
When I run C:\Tomcat\bin\startup.bat, it said JAVA_HOME environment variable is not defined correctly. JAVA_HOME should point to JDK but not JRE.
But the path did point to jdk as I install jre5 on C:\Java\jre5.
Any idea?

I set the JAVA_HOME : C:\Java\jdk5\bin (I changed the install folder name to be jdk5)Wrong. Should be c:/Java/jdk5
PATH: C:\Java\jdk15\binIf you can open a command shell, type "java -version" and get back something sensible, then this is correct.
CLASSPATH: C:\Java\jdk15\binWrong. Delete this. Not needed or wanted.
CATALINA_HOME: C:\TomcatIs that where you installed Tomcat?
When I run C:\Tomcat\bin\startup.bat, it said JAVA_HOME environment variable is not defined correctly. JAVA_HOME should point to JDK but not JRE.
But the path did point to jdk as I install jre5 on C:\Java\jre5.
Any idea?Yes, your environment is screwed up. See if those fixes make it better.

The steps for XP in this document from HP are a great start to resolving issues of this nature.  While the behavior is not exactly identical, the steps have the best chance of resolving the issue.

I try to point iTunes to the .msi file on my c drive but then it gives me  a message says "the file location is not a valid installation packaage for the product iTuness.  Try to find the installation package 'itunes.msi' in a folder from which you can install iTunes".  Any help, insight, guidance would be greatly appreciated!!

Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from the following page (use one of the links under the "DOWNLOAD LOCATIONS" thingy on the Major Geeks page):
    http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4459
To install the utility, doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file you downloaded.
Now run the utility ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up"). In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any iTunes entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:
Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try another iTunes install. Does it go through properly this time?

  • Try to install iTunes on Vista 64 bit on a clean install but it refuses to install

I download the 64 bit version for install on my PC, but during install i noticed it was being installed to Program files (x86) which confused me. so I changed it to Program files in the setup preferences and proceeded to install. It gets half way through installing and gives up. Am I to guess that iTunes 64 is not really 64 bit at all but a psuedo to give it that impression. If it is going to install into a 32 bit directory then I have no recourse but to assume the latter.
Any ideas how I can get this to install on my Windows Vista 64 bit. Either way it comes up with scripting errors every time I try now. What is needed is an apple cleaner to get rid of elements of the old installs hidden in places like Appdata and the registry as well as hidden MSI scripts which stop subsequent installs.

These ones are typically caused by underlying problems on the PC that also often cause Windows Updates to fail to install. If we can fix the Windows Update trouble, we can usually get the iTunes trouble cleaned up en passant.
Go into your Windows update and try to check for new updates. If updates install, stock up on the ones you're behind on, restarting the PC if requested to do so. After the restart, try installing iTunes again. Does it go through this time for you?
If windows updates fail to install, go into your Update History and doubleclick the failures. What alphanumeric codes appear for you? Are they also 8007054F, or some other number? (If they're another number, what number are you getting?)

  • I'm trying to install the new version, but each time during the installation, "Error writing to file: C:/Program Files (x86)/Common Files/Apple/Mobile Device/Support/AppleMobileDeviceHelper.resources/Info.plist." Keeps popping up. What am I doing wrong?

That one's consistent with disk/file damage. The first thing I'd try with that is running a disk check (chkdsk) over your C drive.
Windows 7 instructions in the following document: How to use CHKDSK (Check Disk)
Select both Automatically fix file system errors and Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors, or use chkdsk /r (depending on which way you decide to go about doing this). You'll almost certainly have to schedule the chkdsk to run on startup. The scan should take quite a while ... if it quits after a few minutes or seconds, something's interfering with the scan.
Does the chkdsk find/repair any damage? If so, can you get an install to go through properly afterwards?

  • Installed j2se on windows xp, updated path, but can't find compiler

I installed j2se on windows xp, updated path, but no matter what direc-
tory I try, when I try to compile(javac) I get the "'javac' is not
recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch
file" message. This even happens in the C:\program files\java\j2re1.4_01\bin directory! Anybody know what's up?

j2re (run-time env) does not have javac. I ran into same problem with
sdk -- j2se. I invoke following commands if invoking java commands

    @echo off
    set JAVA_HOME=c:\jdk1.3.1_06 -- where you installed j2se

  • I have downloaded and installed Adobe Flash Player, but it was installed to a "disk image".  I don't know what this is and I cannot see anything that requires Flash Player.  What am I doing wrong?

I have downloaded and installed Adobe Flash Player, but it was installed to a "disk image".  I don't know what that is, but I cannot view anything that requires flash player.  What am I doing wrong?

Thanks for your help, but that didn't do any good either.  I have been double clicking from the download files, double clicking on the "install adobe flash player", closing the anti virus, closing Safari, watching the install progress and clicking finish.  It indicates that "flash player" is installed, but every time I try to view something requiring flash player, it tells me I must download it.  It shows up in the "system preference"  and from there I can make some changes, but it still won't let me view anything requiring "flash player".   It does not show up in my apps like Adobe Reader does.  It shows up in the "downloaded files" section of "Finder".  I'm getting really perplexed over my inability to get this right.

  • Installed Premiere Pro CS4 but video display does not work?

I just got my copy of CS$. After installing Premiere I found two things that seem very wrong:
    1) video display does not work, not even the little playback viewer next to improted film clips located on the project / sequence window. Audio works fine.
    2) the UI is way too slow for my big beefy system.
My pc is a dual boot Vista-32 and XP system with 4GB of memory installed and nvidia geforce 280 graphics board with plenty of GPU power. The CS4 is installed on the Vista-32 partition. My windows XP partition on the same PC with Premiere CS2 works great and real fast.
Any ideas how to solve this CS4 install issue?
    Ron

I would like to thank Dan, Hunt, and Haram:
The problem is now very clear to me. The problem only shows up with video footage imported into PP CS4 encoded with "MS Video 1" codec. So this seems to be a bug. The codec is very clearly called out and supported within various menues but video with this codec just will not play in any monitor or preview window. In addition the entire product looks horrible with respect to performance while PP CS4 trys its best to play the video. Audio will start playing after about 30 seconds. And once in awhile part of video shows up at the wrong magnification before blanking out again.
My suggestion to the Adobe team: fix the bug and add some sample footage to the next release so new installations can test their systems with known footage.

  • Trouble installing Tomcat.

Hello I have downloaded [jakarta-tomcat-4.0.1] and have jdk1.3 installed in c:\jdk1.3\
When I install Tomcat it tells me I do not have a java development kit and advises me to download one.
My autoexec file is as follows:
(I haven't needed to add any classpaths as I use a IDE that knows where the complier is).
    @echo off
    path c:\windows;c:\windows\COMMAND
    SET SNDSCAPE=C:\WINDOWS
    set java_home=c:\jdk1.3
Could someone please tell me what is going wrong and edit my autoexec file with the correct path and repost it?
    Thanks in advance,
    Michael De Vorms

    Hi,
I hope my answer will fit your configuration, as I'm using W2K, so no autoexec here...
I don't even have the JAVA_HOME defined in the environment variables, but I had to modify two Tomcat batch files, as follows:
    1. In Catalina.bat, I had to modify the entry
    SET JAVA_HOME=<java home>
to fit my installation. In your case, you should put:
    SET JAVA_HOME=c:\jdk1.3
    2. In Startup.bat, I modified the entry
    SET CATALINAHOME=<tomcat home>
where <tomcat home> is the home path for your Tomcat installation.
One more thing: I suggest you to define the CLASSPATH in your environment (if you use other classes than those in JDK 1.3), as Tomcat does not access the information your IDE has.
    Regards and good luck,
    Adrian
