Install without network

I wonder if archlinux would be installed without the network. Sometimes the sever cannot link to the internet, but just provide services for LAN. We have to reinstall the server system when it appears some problems such as in a factory, but under the condition of non-network, so may I use the CD to reinstall system?  Thanks!

if you absolutely must update when offline then the only real way to do this is to take a snapshot of the main repo's & store them on a local server/pc that has nfs/samba or sshfs etc.
If all you want to do is install arch on another pc then make sure you have the latest install media then copy your cache & db's to a usb drive & on the new pc work through the steps until first upgrade then mount your usb flash to /var/cache/pacman/pkg & copy over the new DB's from the thumb drive

Can anyone tell me how to install a network printer driver without having the network printer online? It doesn't matter what manufactors make the network printers. Is a netwaork printer(with network card) has to have that printer on line to be able to install
the driver? This is the point of my question!
I've ask a same type of question previously, but I can't either get good answer nor reply on the response.

    DP
The computer (and driver) have to handshake with the printer, QED it has to be either online or physically connected and if it is physically connected it wont work on the network so yes it does.

  • How to do a clean install without loosing anything

    Hi all,
I (foolishly) installed Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard as an update to my existing 10.5.8 Leopard install last year. Ever since I've had a host of small but annoying problems, that no one else seems to be complaining about. (For example in the finder half the time when I right click on a file the pop-up menu disappears after half a second and I have to click and hold to keep it open so I can make a selection.)
I'm starting to wonder if some of the problems I'm having are caused by the upgrade install, instead of a fresh install.
So I'd like to do a clean install of the OS, but it's been so long since I've done that I've forgotten how that works. How can I do a clean install without loosing all my data? Do I have to pull all my data off the hard drive, wipe it clean and start from scratch like you do on a PC, or is there an easier way? (I hope there is an easier way.) If someone could point me in the right direction I'd appreciate it.

I'm starting to wonder if some of the problems I'm having are caused by the upgrade install, instead of a fresh install.
I did an upgrade install on my old MacBook Pro, and it worked just fine. The key is that the system has to be in good working order when the update is applied... if there are minor problems, those problems can be magnified by an upgrade.
Of course, this may not be your problem... have you checked all your software and hardware for compatibility with Snow Leopard? One site that you can use, though it's by no means comprehensive, is:
    http://snowleopard.wikidot.com/
So I'd like to do a clean install of the OS, but it's been so long since I've done that I've forgotten how that works. How can I do a clean install without loosing all my data?
Unfortunately, there's no easy way to do a true clean reinstall. In a nutshell, here's what you need to do:
    1) Back up all your data. Make sure you've got application serial numbers stored somewhere!
    2) Now back up all your data in another place. If you don't have two copies, you won't have any backups after the next step... the backup from step 1 becomes the original, and a poorly-timed drive failure would ruin you.
    3) Reboot from the Mac OS X install disk (SL disk in this case)
    4) Erase the hard drive with Disk Utility
    5) Install the system
    6) Update everything to the current version via Software Update
    7) Install any apps you need
    8) Update those apps if necessary
    9) Reconfigure anything that needs it (network settings, appearance preferences, etc)
    10) Copy +only documents+, no settings files, from your backup, preferably manually rather than with Migration Assistant (which can sometimes copy more than you might want it to).
That's about it! For assistance with any of those items, just say the word.

  • How to download a license without network?

My employer has decided to get rid of all the fixed phones and gave us all a mobile.
I got a Nokia 6303i Classic and I always wanted to try the Nokia navigation software so I bought myself a bluetooth GPS device.
When trying to install it I found out that, yes the maps are for free, but somehow you do need to get a license to use the navigation function.
Here is my problem: if I would like to get a license I need to have internet on the phone. But my employer has a voice only subscription so I am unable to use internet on this phone. Also via Nokia OVI suite I am unable to connect to the internet (my Samsung can use the internet connection of my PC).
How can I license the Navigation software without a network connection???
I would really like to use it in Thailand (no TomTom maps are available for Thailand) eventhough I expect the map to be of poor detail, any Navigation device will help out in that place!

    @wuyt
    Welcome to the forum!
Unfortunately there is no way around this issue without network connection, it is a considerable time ago that "Shop" function was available within Nokia Maploader application upon PC.
Unless you can borrow another SIM although you would need to ensure that license tied to IMEI of device not SIM itself, I can see no way forward.

  • Access without network

Just I install my new 3tb wd my cloud. I bought this item in order to have access to big bank of documents anytime anywhere through internet network. But at the same time I want to work with my saved documents when i have not accees to internet network. can i have access to my saved documents when i am home and i have not access to internet network? can i have access to my cloud directly without network? (eg with cable)

Yes. The MyCloud is a local network attached storage (NAS) device. The cloud access is an extra feature. You can connect to your MyCloud locally by plugging it in to your router, and plugging your PC into the router too. If you don't have a router, you can plug the MyCloud directly into the Ethernet port of your PC: see p110 of the English User Manual. The user manual will show you how to connect via a router, and map drives into the PC's filing system. http://www.wdc.com/wdproducts/library/?id=439&type=25

  • Is it possible to create a configuration profile that will install multiple network printers and their associated drivers

Is it possible to create a configuration profile that will install multiple network printers and their associated drivers?
I was not able to find profile manager on my employer's installation of 10.6 Server. Is this only a feature of 10.7/10.8 server?

10.6 server does not have profile manager, profile manager is only available in 10/7 and 10.8 server
for 10.6 server you'll need to use wgm and server admin
printer management with 10.6, I recommend you read the relevant server manuals regarding

What OS will your Garmin work with? Funny there was someone else that did that and upgraded to Yosemite and regretted it.
I'd say Lion if your Garmin is compatible.
Both Lion and Mountain Lion are downloadable from the Apple Store:

  • How do I install a networked non-post script Ricoh printer?

    Hi,
I am relatively new to Macs, and I am having trouble installing a networked Ricoh Aficio MP C3501 (non-PostScript) printer.  It seems the native driver is for PostScript version of this printer only.  I am running a new MacBook Air.
When I try to add printer via IP address & connect, I get this message:
"Unable to verify the printer on your network.
Unable to connect to ‘10.253.97.48’ due to an error. Would you still like to create the printer?"
I have tried the steps here, with no success:
    http://www.linuxfoundation.org/collaborate/workgroups/openprinting/macosx/pxlmon o#pxlmono_1.6_for_Mac_OS_X_10.3.x_.28Panther.29_-_Mac_OS_X_10.8.x_.28Mountain_Li on.29
I am assuming because of some of the changes made in Yosemite.'
I found this fix, but it would appear to only work if you had the printer installed on Mac PRIOR to Yosemite, and this would repair the "broken connection":
Ricoh MP C2500 not printing after upgrading to Yosemite
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks in advance,
    Chuck

Download the mac driver for your printer, from your printer manufacturer.
Open the downloaded file in finder click on it and open it. If using wireless then set up the wirless network on your printer

Do you have access to another Mac with a disk drive?  If so you can do it in one of two ways:
1 - on the Mac with the optical drive launch Disk Utility and make a disk image of the iLife 11 disk. Connect the two Macs together and transfer the disk image to your MacBook Air.  Mount the disk image and install from it.  I have my iLife disks saved that way for quick and easy reinstall when necessary.
2 - connect the two Mac together so you can access the MBA from the Mac with the disk drive. Insert the iLife disk, and install from the second Mac to the MBA.

Looking to run windows on my MBPro through Bootcamp or Parallels, but would like to use a downloaded Windows 7, is it possible to install without the Windows Disc?
Need to set up a workstation on my MBPro that will only run on Windows. Im willing to use Bootcamp or Parallels to see what works best. Need to get this set up this week to enable working from home on my MB - rural and hoping to buy Windows 7 online - am I able to get windows working through either bootcamp or Parallels without the actual Windows disc? Bootcamp set up guide calls for a disc.

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
First, the answer to your question is yes, it IS possible to install Windows in Parallels without a disc, using an .iso image file.
Boot Camp since OS X 10.8 also installs Windows without a disc: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4889551?tstart=0
Parallels has complete documentation, series of forums, and a knowledgebase. You can also download the current release of Parallels 9 and try it for free for a few weeks before you decide to purchase it.
The Parallels Desktop for Mac product page: http://www.parallels.com/products/desktop/
The Desktop for Mac forums: http://forum.parallels.com/forumdisplay.php?58-Parallels-Desktop-for-Mac
    Documentation: http://www.parallels.com/support/desktop-virtualization/desktop/#c12970
The Knowledgebase for Desktop for Mac: http://kb.parallels.com
The primary difference between a Boot Camp installation and a Parallels installation is that in the Boot Camp installation, you're installing Windows into a separate partition on your internal mass storage device (hard drive or SSD) and then rebooting your Mac directly into Windows.
In Parallels, you're always running OS X on the Mac and Parallels is running a Windows virtual machine.
Not to get too technical here, but it is also possible for Parallels to run an installed Windows Boot Camp partition as a virtual machine. If you're evaluating system performance with a trial copy, that might be the way to go, because you only have to install Windows once on Boot Camp as a dual-boot system, then install Parallels Desktop and run the Boot Camp partition as the virtual machine.
There is a performance difference between the two, with the Boot Camp Windows installation being faster, but without the convenience of running both Mac and Windows applications simultaneously offered by Parallels. Sometimes that convenience outweighs a performance hit.
I can't give you more Mavericks and Parallels 9 specifics, because I'm currently running Windows 7 with Parallels 7 on OS X 10.8.5. Parallels 7 will not run on OS X 10.9 Mavericks.
I've been using Parallels (to run a few old rarely-used WIndows applications with features that would require a steep learning curve and major expense to purchase and learn a similar Mac app) occasionally since Parallels 3 and Windows XP. With each new release of OS X, each new release of Parallels, and each new Windows release, there are ALWAYS 'early adopter' bugs that get worked out over time.

Need to know your Mac model. If it's a PowerPC, the max OS is Leopard 10.5.x. If it's an Intel procesor, you can upgrade to Snow Leopard (for $29) & later to Lion.
