Installation deployment

We need to be able to install instances of Oracle on minimally installed, tightly secured Sun Solaris systems.
So far, Oracle seems to need OS headers, Libraries, compiler utilities, and at least a subset of Xwindows - all inappropriate for a secured server. Is there a way to install on a development machine, then create an install image (sans data) for installation on production-mode servers?
I am a sysadmin with peripheral understanding of Oracle.

  • SBOE XI 3.1 SP3 FixPack Installation/Deployment - Question...

    Hello to all,
    Operation System - AIX 5.3 (AIX 5L)
    Database - Oracle DB
    We have installed SAP Business Objects Enterprise (SBOE) XI 3.1 SP3 with FixPack 3.2 and we want to apply the FixPack 3.4. I´ve been read the installation/deployment guide - "SAP BusinessObjects XI 3.1 FixPack 3.1 and above Installation and
    Deployment Guide" - which is in note 1487252... I think I understood all the procedure, all the phases for this installation/update of this FixPack version, but I didn´t understand one thing, because this is the first time I´m doing this, how I use the Central Management Console (CMC) to stop all of the BusinessObjects Enterprise servers on the machine before installing the FixPack?
    How do I access the CMC so I can stop that servers?
    Thank you in advance
    Kind regards

    Hello Massimo, thank you very much again for your quick answer...
    Can I ask you another thing about BO applications?... We have installed here, besides BO Enterprise product, other product which is the BusinessObjects Enterprise XI 3.1 Integration for SAP Solutions... we must apply the fixpack for this product too? It is recommended? In FixPack guide there is a paragraph in chapter 2.5 Planning your FixPack installation, in there is refered the following:
    "It is required that all BusinessObjects products and components be at the same Service Pack and
    FixPack level. If you have a distributed installation or you are running multiple BusinessObjects
    products, ensure that all products and distributed components are updated. This includes
    BusinessObjects Enterprise servers, client tools, web components, and other BusinessObjects
    products such as Crystal Reports, Live Office, and integrations kits."
    So... It is mandatory to have all the BO products in the same FixPack version?
    Best regards,

  • Installation Deployment Package for Oracle ?

    Dear all OTN Members,
    I wonder if there is/are any Installation Deployment Package for Oracle just like Deployment Package I ever saw in Visual Basic ?

    Dear Andrew,
    Thx for your suggestion, but actually I had try Project Builder for building the deployment package and I only can install from from Oracle Installer, also I can't create custom shortcut nor icons on desktop (not mention the registry settings yet). For information, me and my customer are using Win2k, so I try to find an executable deployment package. Any further suggestion ?
    Thanks in advance.

  • CS4 Installation/Deployment Problem

    Hello All,
    I am new to the forum so I want to thank you in advance for any help you might be able to provide.
    I have been given the task of deploying CS4 Enterprise to our organization.  Using the process described in the CS4 Deployment guide I made install.xml and uninstall.xml files for all of the applications in the suite.
    I can install any one application using the deploymentFile in silent mode.  (Been doing it from command line for testing).  Anyway, once one app is successfully installed on any given machine, I will always get an Error and an Exit Code of 7 when trying to install any subsequent CS4 application.
    Hoping to figure out what was going on I ran it again without the --mode=Silent switch and found that the problem is not with the xml.override file, as eula is suppressed and the serial key is being added automatically.  The problem is that it seems like the installer is ignoring the install.xml deployment file, as I am being prompted to pick which applications I wish to install from the custom install menu.  Obviously this is what is causing the interruption to the silent workflow.
    Has anyone ever experienced this?  I can't figure it out.  Again, any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    mb

    I'm also having issues with Design Standard and getting the same exit code 7.
    We have a bunch of people using the seperate CS products and I've managed to sucessfully set them up but the Design Studio and Web Permium installs seem to be causing me some issues.
    Can you please post a step-by-step of what you did for the Design Standard install?
    I've run through the install using --record and created the insta.xml and remove.xml files.
    I've created the override file:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
    <Configuration>
    <Payload>
    <Data key="Registration">Suppress</Data>
    <Data key="EULA">-1</Data>
    <Data key="Updates">Suppress</Data>
    </Payload>
    </Configuration>
    An placed it in the payloads\AdobeDesignSuiteStandard4-mul folder and run the correct install command.
    \\serverpath\setup.exe --mode=silent --deploymentFile=\\serverpath\install.xml
    Things seem to be kicking off the install fine then just stop after about 4-6 minutes with the exist code 7.
    My install command line uses UNC paths, is this likley to cause an issue?
    Any help would be great.

  • SCCM 2012 client installation - Deploy to an AD Group

    Hi, I have been deploying Configuration Manager Client Package as an application.I would like to re-target the client to an AD Group of machines. There is a group of machines which are in the correct Boundaries, correct local settings etc but the client
    did not install through the automatic install process (When i right click and Deploy, the client installs ok - I am looking to why)
    How do i copy/edit the Configuration Manager Client Package as an application to an AD Group which i have created? I am unable to do this. Any assistance would be great.
    SCCM 2012 R2
    Windows 7
    Thanks

    To deploy a package or application in ConfigMgr to a target system, it must first have the client agent installed and running. Thus, your premise makes no sense. Until a system has a client agent on it, you can't do anything to it via ConfigMgr.
    You can however install the client agent to a system or set of systems using a variety of methods. Client push is built in and is generally the defacto choice. If you wish to push to a subset of the systems in your environment, simply create a collection
    containing those systems (using either direct membership or query based membership rules) and then right-click that collection and choose Install Client.

  • Internet Explorer 11 Add-on Development & Deployment(Installation) using C#/Javascript

    Hi,
    I need some help to create Internet Explorer 11 Add-on to customize context menu item and Toolbar items. However I have created one class library using C#.net to add the context menu but do not know how this will be display in the IE Manage add-ons screen.
    I have followed below links to add context menu item but it does not display as IE Add-on in the Manage Add-Ons window.
    http://www.codeproject.com/Articles/23536/Creating-and-Installing-Internet-Explorer-Context
    Please provide any sample which describes the add-on creation and installation(Deployment on IE 11) using C#/Javascript
    Appreciate your help.
    Many Thanks
    Himanshu Bhargav

    Do you mean your add-on works well but don't display as IE Add-on in the Manage Add-Ons window?
    Add-on usually is a BHO or ActiveX control as a dll file. if your add-on has been registered in the registry, IE should be able to find it and display it  in add-on managed window.

    Background
    Before describing how to organize your source code directories, it is useful to examine the runtime organization of a web application. Prior to the Servlet API Specification, version 2.2, there was little consistency between server platforms. However, servers that conform to the 2.2 (or later) specification are required to accept a Web Application Archive in a standard format, which is discussed further below.
    A web application is defined as a hierarchy of directories and files in a standard layout. Such a hierarchy can be accessed in its "unpacked" form, where each directory and file exists in the filesystem separately, or in a "packed" form known as a Web ARchive, or WAR file. The former format is more useful during development, while the latter is used when you distribute your application to be installed.
    The top-level directory of your web application hierarchy is also the document root of your application. Here, you will place the HTML files and JSP pages that comprise your application's user interface. When the system administrator deploys your application into a particular server, he or she assigns a context path to your application (a later section of this manual describes deployment on Tomcat). Thus, if the system administrator assigns your application to the context path /catalog, then a request URI referring to /catalog/index.html will retrieve the index.html file from your document root.
    Standard Directory Layout
    To facilitate creation of a Web Application Archive file in the required format, it is convenient to arrange the "executable" files of your web application (that is, the files that Tomcat actually uses when executing your app) in the same organization as required by the WAR format itself. To do this, you will end up with the following contents in your application's "document root" directory:
    * *.html, *.jsp, etc. - The HTML and JSP pages, along with other files that must be visible to the client browser (such as JavaScript, stylesheet files, and images) for your application. In larger applications you may choose to divide these files into a subdirectory hierarchy, but for smaller apps, it is generally much simpler to maintain only a single directory for these files.
    * /WEB-INF/web.xml - The Web Application Deployment Descriptor for your application. This is an XML file describing the servlets and other components that make up your application, along with any initialization parameters and container-managed security constraints that you want the server to enforce for you. This file is discussed in more detail in the following subsection.
    * /WEB-INF/classes/ - This directory contains any Java class files (and associated resources) required for your application, including both servlet and non-servlet classes, that are not combined into JAR files. If your classes are organized into Java packages, you must reflect this in the directory hierarchy under /WEB-INF/classes/. For example, a Java class named com.mycompany.mypackage.MyServlet would need to be stored in a file named /WEB-INF/classes/com/mycompany/mypackage/MyServlet.class.
    * /WEB-INF/lib/ - This directory contains JAR files that contain Java class files (and associated resources) required for your application, such as third party class libraries or JDBC drivers.
    When you install an application into Tomcat (or any other 2.2/2.3-compatible server), the classes in the WEB-INF/classes/ directory, as well as all classes in JAR files found in the WEB-INF/lib/ directory, are made visible to other classes within your particular web application. Thus, if you include all of the required library classes in one of these places (be sure to check licenses for redistribution rights for any third party libraries you utilize), you will simplify the installation of your web application -- no adjustment to the system class path (or installation of global library files in your server) will be necessary.
    Much of this information was extracted from Chapter 9 of the Servlet API Specification, version 2.3, which you should consult for more details.
    Shared Library Files
    Like most servlet containers, Tomcat 5 also supports mechanisms to install library JAR files (or unpacked classes) once, and make them visible to all installed web applications (without having to be included inside the web application itself. The details of how Tomcat locates and shares such classes are described in the Class Loader HOW-TO documentation. For the purposes of our discussion, there are two locations that are commonly used within a Tomcat 5 installation for shared code:
    * $CATALINA_HOME/common/lib - JAR files placed here are visible both to web applications and internal Tomcat code. This is a good place to put JDBC drivers that are required for both your application and internal Tomcat use (such as for a JDBCRealm).
    * $CATALINA_BASE/shared/lib - JAR files placed here are visible to all web applications, but not to internal Tomcat code. This is the right place for shared libraries that are specific to your application.
    Out of the box, a standard Tomcat 5 installation includes a variety of pre-installed shared library files, including:
    * The Servlet 2.4 and JSP 2.0 APIs that are fundamental to writing servlets and JavaServer Pages.
    * An XML Parser compliant with the JAXP (version 1.2) APIs, so your application can perform DOM-based or SAX-based processing of XML documents.
    Web Application Deployment Descriptor
    The description below uses the variable name $CATALINA_HOME to refer to the directory into which you have installed Tomcat 5, and is the base directory against which most relative paths are resolved. However, if you have configured Tomcat 5 for multiple instances by setting a CATALINA_BASE directory, you should use $CATALINA_BASE instead of $CATALINA_HOME for each of these references.
    As mentioned above, the /WEB-INF/web.xml file contains the Web Application Deployment Descriptor for your application. As the filename extension implies, this file is an XML document, and defines everything about your application that a server needs to know (except the context path, which is assigned by the system administrator when the application is deployed).
    The complete syntax and semantics for the deployment descriptor is defined in Chapter 13 of the Servlet API Specification, version 2.3. Over time, it is expected that development tools will be provided that create and edit the deployment descriptor for you. In the meantime, to provide a starting point, a basic web.xml file is provided. This file includes comments that describe the purpose of each included element.
    NOTE - The Servlet Specification includes a Document Type Descriptor (DTD) for the web application deployment descriptor, and Tomcat 5 enforces the rules defined here when processing your application's /WEB-INF/web.xml file. In particular, you must enter your descriptor elements (such as <filter>, <servlet>, and <servlet-mapping> in the order defined by the DTD (see Section 13.3).
    Tomcat Context Descriptor
    The description below uses the variable name $CATALINA_HOME to refer to the directory into which you have installed Tomcat 5, and is the base directory against which most relative paths are resolved. However, if you have configured Tomcat 5 for multiple instances by setting a CATALINA_BASE directory, you should use $CATALINA_BASE instead of $CATALINA_HOME for each of these references.
    A /META-INF/context.xml file can be used to define Tomcat specific configuration options, such as loggers, data sources, session manager configuration and more. This XML file must contain one Context element, which will be considered as if it was the child of the Host element corresponding to the Host to which the The Tomcat configuration documentation contains information on the Context element.
    Deployment With Tomcat 5
    In order to be executed, a web application must be deployed on a servlet container. This is true even during development. We will describe using Tomcat 5 to provide the execution environment. A web application can be deployed in Tomcat by one of the following approaches:
    * Copy unpacked directory hierarchy into a subdirectory in directory $CATALINA_HOME/webapps/. Tomcat will assign a context path to your application based on the subdirectory name you choose. We will use this technique in the build.xml file that we construct, because it is the quickest and easiest approach during development. Be sure to restart Tomcat after installing or updating your application.
    * Copy the web application archive file into directory $CATALINA_HOME/webapps/. When Tomcat is started, it will automatically expand the web application archive file into its unpacked form, and execute the application that way. This approach would typically be used to install an additional application, provided by a third party vendor or by your internal development staff, into an existing Tomcat installation. NOTE - If you use this approach, and wish to update your application later, you must both replace the web application archive file AND delete the expanded directory that Tomcat created, and then restart Tomcat, in order to reflect your changes.
    * Use the Tomcat 5 "Manager" web application to deploy and undeploy web applications. Tomcat 5 includes a web application, deployed by default on context path /manager, that allows you to deploy and undeploy applications on a running Tomcat server without restarting it. See the administrator documentation (TODO: hyperlink) for more information on using the Manager web application.
    * Use "Manager" Ant Tasks In Your Build Script. Tomcat 5 includes a set of custom task definitions for the Ant build tool that allow you to automate the execution of commands to the "Manager" web application. These tasks are used in the Tomcat deployer.
    * Use the Tomcat Deployer. Tomcat 5 includes a packaged tool bundling the Ant tasks, and can be used to automatically precompile JSPs which are part of the web application before deployment to the server.
    Deploying your app on other servlet containers will be specific to each container, but all containers compatible with the Servlet API Specification (version 2.2 or later) are required to accept a web application archive file. Note that other containers are NOT required to accept an unpacked directory structure (as Tomcat does), or to provide mechanisms for shared library files, but these features are commonly available.

  • Deployment of JSR-109 Web Services on Weblogic 11g (OAS migration)

    Hi.
    I'm being part of an ongoing migration effort from Oracle Application Server 10.1.3.5 to WebLogic 11g (10.3.6). Some of the OAS applications use old JSR-109 Web Services, where each service has the following components:
    - A SEI interface that extends java.rmi.Remote and declares the service methods, which throw java.rmi.RemoteException (e.g. ServiceSEI)
    - A service implementation POJO that implements the SEI interface (e.g. ServiceImpl)
    - A [Service]-config.xml file that declares the service and relates name, namespaces, packages, interface and implementation (e.g. Service-config.xml)
    - A declaration of the service implementation POJO as a servlet (with mapping) in web.xml (docs says it doesn't have to be technically a servlet)
    - A webservices.xml file that defines the service and references the mapping file.
    - A [Service]-mapping.xml file that defines the WS-Java mappings.
    All the artifacts look right according the old documentation:
    - Programming Web Services for WebLogic Server, Creating a J2EE Web Service Manually: http://otndnld.oracle.co.jp/document/products/wls/docs92/webserv/jsr109.html
    - Web Services for J2EE 1.0 Final Release Spec: http://download.oracle.com/otndocs/jcp/websvcs-1.0-fr-spec-oth-JSpec/
    The Web Services work OK in OAS. When I try to deploy any of the application that contain one of that services to WebLogic, I get the following Exception:
    <BEA-101216> <Servlet: "WSServlet_Procesos" failed to preload on startup in Web application: "/webapp".

    I obviously though the EAR package given to me was incomplete, lacking the ClassNotFound related class, but the package was OK, and is exactly the same that deploys without problems in OAS.
    The ClassNotFound related class is referenced in the <java-xml-type-mapping> element of the [Service]-mapping.xml file, e.g.:
    <java-xml-type-mapping>
    <java-type>co.com.acme.services.ServiceSEI_serviceOperation_ResponseStruct</java-type>
    <root-type-qname xmlns:typeNS="urn:Service/types">typeNS:serviceOperationResponse</root-type-qname>
    <qname-scope>complexType</qname-scope>
    <variable-mapping>
    <java-variable-name>result</java-variable-name>
    <xml-element-name>result</xml-element-name>
    </variable-mapping>
    </java-xml-type-mapping>
    I searched the OAs installation deployment dirs looking for the missing class and found it was present in a Jar called deployment-cache.jar. According OC4J related documentation, this Jar es auto-generated at deployment time.
    Weblogic 11g documentation says that kind of Web Services will continue to run, without any changes, on version 10.3.x of WebLogic Server because the associated Web services run time is still supported in this release, although it is deprecated and will be removed from the product in future releases (http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E21764_01/web.1111/e13760/upgrade.htm). I know the right estrategy is migrate the Web Services, but right now my client needs to deploy and use them as they are. I think WL recognizes my service since internally is calling a "Deploytime109MappingHelper" class.
    ¿Is there any way I can deploy that kind of services to Weblogic 11g? ¿I'm I missing some required step?
    As a workaround, I included the OAS generated deployment-cache.jar into the EAR to deploy in Weblogic 11g and the app deploys without errors, but I see this is not a nice solution.
    Any help would be much appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Esteban

    Hi. The [Service]-mapping.xml file is a standard "JAX-RPC mapping file" according the JSR-109 spec and WebLogic 9.2 doc ([1],[2]). That's the file that references the class. Here's a fragment:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" standalone="no"?>
    <java-wsdl-mapping xmlns="http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/j2ee" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" version="1.1" xsi:schemaLocation="http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/j2ee http://www.ibm.com/webservices/xsd/j2ee_jaxrpc_mapping_1_1.xsd">
    <package-mapping>
    <package-type>co.com.acme.services</package-type>
    <namespaceURI>urn:Service/types</namespaceURI>
    </package-mapping>
    <package-mapping>
    <package-type>co.com.acme.services</package-type>
    <namespaceURI>urn:Services/wsdl</namespaceURI>
    </package-mapping>
    <java-xml-type-mapping>
    <java-type>co.com.acme.services.ServiceSEI_serviceOperation_RequestStruct</java-type>
    <root-type-qname xmlns:typeNS="urn:Service/types">typeNS:serviceOperation</root-type-qname>
    <qname-scope>complexType</qname-scope>
    <variable-mapping>
    <java-variable-name>String_1</java-variable-name>
    <xml-element-name>String_1</xml-element-name>
    </variable-mapping>
    </java-xml-type-mapping>
    I'll take a look at the ant task.
    Thank you very much.

  • Weblogic deployment

    Hi All,
    I installed Hyperion 11.1.2.2 in two servers named as machine1 and machine2.
    In machine1, i installed Sql server, Essbase and FDM
    In machine2, i installed Foundation services, HFM, Planning, Workspace and Reporting analysis.
    First i Sql server, then i installed components in machine2.
    then i installed in machine1.
    Now, in machine1 installation,
    Deploy weblogic to the existing domain is correct or not?
    If i move further with this option, Deploy to the Application server failed for both Essbase and FDM.
    If have any idea, please tell me.
    Thanks,
    mady

    You would deploy to the same domain as you created on machine2.
    You need to check the config logs to see why the deployment failed, I take it you have the weblogic admin server running on server2 when you configure server1.

  • Deployment application Pre-deploy setting

    HI all , i have basic questtaion about deployment application .
    If I select in the deplyment types "Install for system if resource is device ; otherwise install for user" and "Wheather or not a user is logged on" and deployment collection is user and pre-deploy is checked is the program istall only
    to primary device or every computer where user logon ?
    thanx

    Hi,
    You can define primary devices. These are typically the devices that users use on a daily basis to perform their work. When you create an affinity between a user and a device, you gain
    more software deployment options. For example, if a user requires Microsoft Office Visio, you can install it on the user’s primary device by using a Windows Installer deployment. You can also use user device affinity to pre-deploy software on a user’s device
    when the user is not logged in. Then, when the user logs on, the application is already installed and ready to run.

  • Custom Adobe Photoshop Elements 8.0 deployment error

    I am working on developing a custom MSI to deploy Photoshop Elements 8.0 in our company and I am getting the following error message:
    Install adobe photoshop elements 8.0 using the setup.exe in the root folder
    I was hoping someone could assist me with finding the correct property to add to the MSI (using Orca) so that I can get past this error and continue with the installation/deployment.
    Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you in advance.
    Robert

    Thank you for the reply, Ankush.
    The idea of installing from the .msi file is to make the installation universal. If we create a custom .mst file to run with the "Adobe Photoshop Elements 8.0.msi" file, it can be configured to automatically use the language selection previously configured in the Windows operating system. This makes it much easier to develope for our sites around the globe.
    I will try and contact the Support Team you have suggested.

  • Putting the license key in the installer w/ wix and RDC

    Post Author: dblock
    CA Forum: Crystal Reports
    I am rewriting an old installer in wix (wix.sourceforge.net). The installer deployed RDC "by hand", where they picked the files and stuck them into the InstallShield installer. I got the merge modules instead. The readme for the merge modules says:
    license.msm - This merge module is used to apply the license keycode during installation. It exposes a custom property called License Key which must be populated with the keycode found on the Crystal Reports 9 CD envelope. This merge module is always required.
    What does this mean? Do I just create a property called License Key and put the key in there? Has anyone done this with wix?

    Hello Anubha,
    Thank you for getting back to me. The customer has a larger issue than the serial number, he is missing updates and the .Net Framework would not install in order to apply the updates. We will try a new approach to resolve the issue. You can archive this case.

  • How to Deploy exe application using SCCM 2012 SP1

    Hi,
    While creating deployment type wizard (for exe application deployment) , i am not able to see the "Windows Installer (native)" option in the drop down menu. Kindly refer snapshot. If i select "script installer" , deployment is not working.
    I am taking it for adobe reader 9.1 exe application. Can anyone please suggest which option should i take.
    Regards
    Manish

    I believe the thinking was that most people wrap their .exe in an .msi anyway, so that would have been way more common.
    Really?
    That seems bizarre to me. I guess, if this thinking occurred, it might have been based on the idea that lots of people are using Group Policy Software Installation (Intellimirror), since GPSI does a less-horrible job when you use MSI.
    But, a lot of software I've seen, uses a setup.exe bootstrapper to launch one or more MSI's.
    So, MSI wraps EXE wraps MSI would be the outcome of this thinking.
    Which is why I chose the word... bizarre.
