Installation Works, Running Doesn't

I just tried to install the WebStart app. I didn't have a previous JDK installed, so it went ahead and installed the JRE.
Everything went ok. It didn't ask me to reboot (which the other guys in the office tell me is unusual). Then I tried running the app. I got the tiny WebStart splash screen, and then nothing. So then I tried just starting WebStart, and the splash screen came up and then nothing. I have un-installed, and re-installed several times, each with many many reboots.
I just can't get this to run. I checked the config, and it is pointing to the right place. I checked the one bug in the faq, and I deleted all the directories, rebooted, installed, and rebooted. Nothing.
I am installing this on Windows 2000.

I am having similar woes on NT 4. I ran javaws.exe from a command prompt, redirecting stderr to a file, and got this stack trace:

I have Macbook Pro. Previous OS was Mountain Lion 10.8.5. It was running smoothly. When I have tried to clean install the NEW Maverick 10.9 it didnt work. I erase the drive then restart for boot. nad my usb boot disk was connected. When the window came for reinstall the OS. I click. click to "continue" but then it says....there has a problem with boot. But six months ago I installed it in the same way without any error or any hamper. after that i tried many times to boot and install but i failed. i tried to recover it by internet recovery. it takes few hours. after completation the recovery the reinstall window again came. i click to reinstall then it says "an error occurred while preparing the installation try running this application again mountain lion"

i tried several times but it doesn't work. now i am downloading again osx 10.8.5 dmg to try again.

PSE 8 Installer not running on Mac OS 10.5 or 10.6

I am new to Adobe. This is my first product. No Adobe products on my machines, other than Adobe Acrobat Reader.
Tried to install Photoshop Elements 8 for Mac on two different Aluminum Macbooks - one running OS 10.5 and the other 10.6.
After inserting the DVD there is no installer that runs.
I get an icon on the desktop. Clicking the icon shows me several files on the disc - including the read me file that says to install just "follow the onscreen instructions."
There is one file that is titled "setup" - but when I click that it asks for my password. I have not provided the password because it just doesn't feel like this is the proper way to install this software.
Any ideas on how to get the installer to run?

AFAIK, installers of Adobe applications do ask for an admin password before they start installing them on user's machine. There are multiple reasons to ask for the admin priveledges:
1. It prevents a guest/unknown user who might use your machine for some time to make any changes on your machine like installing/uninstalling applications.
2. Installer gets the required priveledges to copy files in \Applications, \User specific folders, OS specific folders, etc with right set of permissions assigned to different files so that application doesn't nag user while running for admin priveledges.
3. In many enterprises, admins do not want applications that install without admin privilege, as this is seen as an attempt to work around deliberate install restrictions.
Regarding you suggestion of "Adobe should include this step in the "installation" instructions on the "read me" file for users like me.", we will try to take care of this in future releases as some other users have also raised this issue. Thanks again for sharing feedback.

Microsoft Works runs in Classic on my PowerBook but not on my G4... Why?

I've been using Microsoft Works v2.00b for a very long time. I've got OS X 10.4.10 and OS 9.2.2 on both of my Macs (PowerBook G4 1.0Ghz and PowerMac G4 FireWire 800, Dual 1.42Ghz). I used to be able to run Works on both machines, but now it won't run on the G4 tower.
Everything works fine on my PowerBook as it always has.
On the G4 tower, Works documents show up either as UNIX Executable files or as Appleworks Templates (but won't actually launch or work). The Works application shows up as an application, but when I try to run it it launches the AppleScript editor as if it was an AppleScript.
I just installed a new hard drive in the tower and freshly installed OS X and a bunch of app's. When I brought my OS 9 installation over from my PowerBook I had the exact same problem.
I've tried rebuilding the Classic Desktop and I've replaced the critical Microsoft OLE Extension with a hopefully clean one but Works still doesn't work.
I even called Apple (I had AppleCare on the PowerBook) but they gave up and told me that "These aren't questions that we can answer." Obviously something is different between the tower and the PowerBook, but I can't figure out what.

Try rebuilding the Classic desktop. That has always been the OS 9 "cure" for mis-matched Icons and launching the wrong Applications.

Unable to install ICloud 4.0 on Win 8.1 PC. Get Windows Installer error message. But Windows installer works fine. Any solutions?

I cannot install ICloud 4.0 on my Win8.1 PC because I get a recurring message that the Windows Installer has failed. The Windos installer works fine on other applications. So I suspect it is in the ICloud software. I have uninstalled Icloud 3.2 and deleted the apple internet services files but still no luck. Any ideas?

The error message says "There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A program run as part of the setup did not finish as expected. Contact your support personnel or package vendor"

I installed Adobe acrobat X pro 10.0 trial and every time after installation and running the software it give me the following error message

CS6 installation unsuccessful on new machine. OS/Display requirement issues, Error 6, but same installation worked fine on old laptop w/ worse specs..?

I am having trouble installing Adobe Master Collection CS6 on my new laptop. I encounter Error 6 when I try installing PS, AI, and ID, and it says I am not meeting OS requirements. Illustrator prompts another error: Display requirements not met. ( I'm very confused, because the same installation worked just fine on my old machine... No errors when I did it the first time. I have no idea why I'm running into errors now?) I'm getting warning DW066, DW065, DF029, fatal DS003, and error DW050.
New Laptop Specs:
- Asus 14.1" touchscreen Win 8.1, 64 bit OS
- Intel Core i.5, 1.70 GHz
- 6 GB RAM, Screen Res 1366x768 32 bit color
Old Laptop Specs:

Ever since I have installed the Labview 2011 beta I am in trouble when creating installers that include the NI runtime.
Whether it is Labview 2010 or 2011, when I have created the installer and run it, I -and everybody else- gets the warning:
MsiError 87: <Unable to format error record.>
And the installer qwill quit.
When I exclude the runtime from the installer it works nicely. What can I do to fix it?

Yes, you can create an installer that will run on either XP or Win7. Does your application use any config or .ini files? If so, you will need to pay close attention to a couple of details to make sure you don't run into any security issues.

Disk Cleanup CPU issue - Windows Module Installer Worker

I have a brand new VM running on ESX 5.5 U2, OS is Windows Server 2012 R2 Datacenter edition, i have installed Desktop Experience.
The OS is up to date. Whenever i do a Disk Cleanup, the CPU is at 100% usage in Task Manager, the Windows Module Installer Worker process is taking all the CPU resources. It only happens when i run the Disk Cleanup wizard.

Installer app runs in Classic, but shouldn't

Hi
I'm trying to install Macromedia (as was) Studio 8 (including Flash, Dreamweaver, etc) on a PMG5 in 10.3.9. The installer CD contains an "Install Studio" application which, on other OS X computers, is a normal, working OS X application. However, on this one machine, it tries to run in Classic. Once Classic launches, I get the error "This application requires OS X" (of course).
I believe the installer is running within Macromedia Flash Player 8, but I can't work out how to force it to open in the OS X environment. The Flash Player is, as far as I can tell, only a browser plugin, and not a standalone application (right?)
I have done the following:
- Repaired permissions
- Uninstalled all previous versions of Flash
- Reinstalled latest (v.9) version of Adobe Flash
- Removed Macromedia Shockwave support files from /Library/Application Support
When I Get Info on the application, "Open in Classic Environment" is unticked.

Marlinespike's solution worked. I had to copy all installation files off the CD into a folder on the HD, and run it from there. Strange issue but now I know the solution.
