Hi,
Did the serial number come from a boxed set and previously installed from disc and are you now trying to install from a download?
If so, that will not work - the serial numbers are different.
If you don't have a dvd drive on your new system, perhaps you could get someone to copy your disc to a memory stick and install from that.

It would help if you would tell us which version. If it's PSE 12, just install the trial and enter your serial number into that.

Installing old Photoshop Elements on a new computer

I have an old version of Photoshop Elements and a new MAC. It was previously installed on my PC which crashed. But the new MAC won't let me install this software - it tells me there is an error with the install.

OK... so this is an OLD version - it is 4.0 (2006). My MAC is running OS X Version 10.8.2. The installation begins and some of the files begin installing then it quits and the message reads: "The installer encountered an error that caused the installation to fail. Contact the software manufacturer for assistance."

What is the exact error message which you receive? Also what version of Photoshop Elements are you trying to install? Finally what version of Mac OS are you using?

Which version of PSE? Older versions are simply not compatible. Only 10 and 11 are.

Unfortunately, only adobe can help you with that, as most people here are just posters such as your self and don't work for adobe.
If you go here and use the Chat now button (bottom of page), they should get you up and running by resetting your activations.

Only if you have the PSE9 installation files. If you purchased it from Adobe, log in to your account and see if they still offer a download link for your purchase.

I wanted to move photoshop elements to my new laptop but I can't deactivate it on my old mac, why won't it let me?

Also please note there is no Deactivate button in the help bar of Elements. All I really want to do is move photoshop Elements from my old mac to my new laptop but it says "the product is already registered" and I need to unregister it so I can install it onto my laptop.

Can you please check if you are connected to the internet on your old mac while deactivating your product.
Also can you please share a screenshot of the error that you are getting at your end.
For Photoshop Elements version 13, under help you will find an option "sign out".
Please select "sign out" and then click on the "sign out" button on the screen that comes up.
This should get the product deactivated on your old mac.

If it's a new laptop then I assume the OS is also the latest one.
Photoshop Elements 5 is a very very old software and unsupported on latest OS like Windows 8.1 or Mac 10.9.2
Please consider purchasing the latest version of PSE12.

I purchased Adobe Photoshop Elements 12 and retrieved my serial number and have the redemption code -- but I can't figure out how to install Photoshop without a DVD drive. The Photoshop package I purchased only provides DVDs and I don't have a DVD drive. Is there a website I can go to to install Photoshop and enter my serial number or redemption code?

The activation servers for CS and CS2 have been retired. Adobe has issued a non-activation copy free of charge for you.
