  • How to install gcc on solaris 7

    Hi everybody
I downloaded "gcc-2.95.2-sol7-intel-local.gz" from sunfreeware.com site. I unzipped it but i don't know how can i install it on my solaris intel 7. please help me.
    Thanks
    Behrad

Seeing as how this is an old post I assume you already figured it out, and unless I'm way off it's a simple matter of using the pkgadd utility. Something like this I believe (while your in the directory):
    pkgadd -d gcc-2.95.2-sol7-intel-local .
If you don't have enough room in your /usr/local or /opt directories, you might need to use the -R <root-path> to redirect the install to a different location. You must be root when installing.
    Good Luck,

  • How to install gcc 4.4+ on open solaris ?

Is it possible to get latest gcc on open solaris ?
I installed gcc from repository but it is version 3.4.3.

OpenSolaris 2009.06 for x86(amd64) contains gcc 4.3.2 in opensolaris repository.
In order to install it you can click on this link: [http://pkg.opensolaris.org/release/p5i/0/developer%2Fgcc%2Fgcc-432.p5i|http://pkg.opensolaris.org/release/p5i/0/developer%2Fgcc%2Fgcc-432.p5i]

  • Install gcc 3.2.3 on Solaris 9

Have installed Sol 2.9 on a SparcStation 4, now trying to get GCC onto it. However, the "make bootstrap" command from the html documentation does not work. It asks for a valid copy of 'cc' which I do not have, which was the reason I am trying to install gcc - and is starting to become a circular argument.
gcc was downloaded from sunfreeware.com. Their instructions for non-compilation installation of gcc are vague at best.
Can anyone provide me with the info on whats required to instal this package?
Thanks, Ian Dennison (HP-UX Certified SysAdmin)

Set your environment variable CC=gcc or edit the Makefile or config file that would have the line
for the compiler to use. either cc or gcc.

  • Installing Apache in Solaris 8

i want to install apache in solaris 8. i installed gcc 3.0.xxx
and apache 1.3.19.xxxx. but while installing apache it gives a error that
    ./helpers/TestCompile : make not found
what should i do to avoid this error. please send the remedy soon.
    Thanks in Advance

    Hello,
    It is recommanded to :
    - Use the Apache bundle with Solaris 8. Depending of installation mode you choose (core, etc...) packages are present or not.
Check is /etc/apache or /etc/init.d/httpd exist ot not.
If not, packages can be added from Solaris 8 cdroms.
    Supported by Sun
    - Use apache-1.3.27 or apache-2.0.54 from the www.sunfreeware.com web site. These are already compiled od installation is just made by simple pkgadd.
Not supported by Sun but validated and stable.
Note : gcc, tomcat, openssl etc also available.
    Best regards,

  • How to install GCC or use Forte C++

    Hello!
I want to compile the Wine (Windows Emulator) for Solaris 9 (x86). One way is that I install gcc 3.2, and the other is to use the FORTE C++ compiler provided by Sun Microsystems. Now, I have downloaded the gcc-3.2 source code from the sunfreeware.com. But I am unable to install the gcc compiler.
Please guide me (or any reference) to some easy installation methods for gcc, or else, tell me the way, I could use the Forte C++ compilers, provided by SUN. I am unable to find a way to use the Forte.

  • How to install software on Solaris?

I am new to Solaris but have experience on Fedora. I installed Solaris 10 with the default software. Now I want to install gcc on this system. How can I do this? Does Solaris has RPM like Fedora? I found that in Solaris DVD there is a directory "sol_10_508_x86/Solaris_10/Product/SUNWgcc", is this the gcc I can install? and how?
    thanks.

That's a very good question. I'm pretty new to Solaris myself as well, I needed a torrent client and went to http://www.sunfreeware.com/ from where I downloaded libtorrent-0.11.4-sol10-x86-local.gz then I followed the instructions here, which basically meant running as root form the terminal gunzip libtorrent-0.11.4-sol10-x86-local.gz and pkgadd -d libtorrent-0.11.4-sol10-x86-local and the installation seems to have went without a problem, but the problem now I'm facing is how to run the program that I appear to have installed successfully?

  • Help installing gcc

i've installed a full solaris 10 on my x86 laptop! and i've never really used much of a sun machine before, i've been looking on the web for free c

    Please help!
    ;-)

Thanks, that works. Im using the Bourne shell by the looks of it!
However when I reboot I have re type the command to be able to use gcc again, is there any way to solve this?
To get it to understand a make file do I have to install something?
Does any one know why my keyboard is set to the US settings? I changed them in Preferences-> Desktop preferences-> Keyboard-> Beavior I removed the us settings and have only the uk settings applied. But it still doesnt use the UK keyboard layout?! Im using gnone desktop by the way.
And one more stupid question I made hello world and I made the file world, however to run this I thought u just typed world in the shell, Im in the right directory! Any ideas?

Perhaps you have permission problems, or disk full, or you don't have a working compiler, or your path is wrong, or the download is corrupt, or...
Anybody got an idea on how to install GCC correctly? If the version that comes with Solaris is not sufficient, there are packages that can be installed from sunfreeware or blastwave, or you can follow the INSTALL instructions from gcc.

  • Problem installing gcc

I tried to install gcc in my solaris 7. When I start to run configure, the errors below keeps on showing:
    Configuring for a sparc-sun-solaris2.7 host.
Created "Makefile" in /usr/local/objdir/gcc-2.95.2 using "mh-frag"
    ./configure: cc: not found
    *** The command 'cc -o conftest -g conftest.c' failed.
*** You must set the environment variable CC to a working compiler.
What should I do? How to set the environment variable for CC? I'm using Borne Shell(root) and the installation done by root. So where or which directory I suppose to set my environment variable?

Hi, I'm new to Sun. Currently i have a situation just like all of you here. The difference is that i am running Solaris 8 on a sparc platform and i have gcc release 3.0.4. I tried configuring it but the same message that all of u have faced except for the first line stating "Configuring from a sparc-sun-solaris2.8 host". I also have this line "/usr/ucb/cc: language optional software package not installed"
I have been trying to figure it out for days. Now how do set the environment variable CC to a working compiler and where do i have to install gcc in which directory to be safe.

  • How to install Dual OS(solaris 10 and Windows XP)?

I have got a 80 gb sata hard disk and i am not able to install Dual OS(solaris and Windows XP ) on it.My Partitions are as follows:
    Primary partition-5GB
    Remaining are extended Partition.
    Extended partition details
8 gb NTFS partition(installed windows XP)
7 gb NTFS partiton(No data in it)
20 gb NTFS partition(No data in it)
20 gb NTFS partiton(has data in it)
    15 gb RAW partiton
I first installed Windows xp on 8 gb Extended partiton. Then when i installed Solaris i could see only 2 partitons. One with the 5 gb and the other with the 71 gb.I actually wanted to install my solaris on the 15 gb Raw partition.Since i could not see the partition(15 gb Raw) i installed solaris on the 5 gb partition. Now when the comp boots it goes to solairs os only.i dont have the option to choose windows at all.
could any one of you explain me how the partitions are supposed to be and how could i make it as a Dual OS.

Windows uses the primary partiton for boot, too, even if you installed it on the NTFS volume in the extended partition. Wherever you install Windows, it will need the primary partition for booting. You can never boot from Windows extended partitions
As for the 15Gb raw partition, it look like what you call 'RAW partition' is actually just a small little part inside the extended partition. All your NTFS partitions (and your RAW partiton) are logical volumes and they all reside inside the extended partition. Even though Windows sees them as separate drives, each with its own drive letter, just as it sees the primary partition.
You may try do use Windows fdisk or diskpart to delete the last logical volume in the extended partition, and then get the ntfs resize tool from Linux, or the CD1 from the Debian Linux install CDs, which has it included and accessible with a nice user interface, and resize your extended partition.
I don't know if it works, I only used it to also resize some logical volume inside the partition. ntfs resize tool might not be easy to work with, you will need to read its documentation, but it does resize NTFS partitions (I have seen it).
If it works, then you will have your 15Gb as unallocated space available for a new partition. Let the Solaris installer create this new partition automatically during install.

Also: 11gR1 on Solaris failing at relink phase with errors like "ld: fatal: relocation error" and then "ld: fatal: library -lclntsh: not found" [ID 848700.1] could be of help regarding the link (lclntsh) error.

  • Installing 11i on Solaris and migrating 8.0.5 to new 8.1.6 database

I've installed 11i (several times) on a new Sun solaris server. I also selected it to install a fresh database. On another server we have 11.0 and 8.0.5 database. We are using a new server to install 11i and we want to move our database over. I managed to transfer all database files over to the new server and upgrade to 8.1.6 (succeeded)
How do I proceed now to get the 11i applications to use the database i've transferred over. Is this possible??? Can't find any clear documentation on how to merge this database into the applications 11i.

Gina, I am attempting something similar... but it involves moving an exisiting installation from HP-UX to Solaris, so I cannot move the datafiles... If I run into a method that helps both of us, I will let you know... as of now, I am installing fresh on Solaris and going to try to run upgrade scripts on existing 10.7 and exp/imp into the new instance on 11i (Solaris).

Reading repository metadata in from local files
    Parsing paskage install arguments

Here is what you need to install under Oracle Linux or Red Hat Enterprise Linux to install the VirtualBox Guest Additions:
    <pre>yum -y install gcc kernel-uek-devel-$(uname -r)</pre>
The packages are available from the Oracle public yum repository as already mentioned, or on the installation DVD in the server directory.
