Installing Multiple instances of Essbase on a single machine

Dear gurus,
I have done the vanilla installation of Hyperion Suit of Products (11.1.2.2) on my VM machine (windows 2008 SP1, Its a Virtual Machine) ( I installed Foundation, EAS and just Essbase)
My First Essbase instance is running on default port 1423, and I tried to configure the second instance of Essbase using port 1424 and all donfiguration went successful. I can see the 2nd service of essbase up and running at services.msc
I followed the steps mentioned at:
http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E17236_01/epm.1112/epm_install_11121/frameset.htm?essbaseAgentPortPanel.html
My 1st instance is installed at: D:\Oracle\Middleware\user_projects\epmsystem1
My 2nd instance is installed at: D:\Oracle\Middleware\user_projects\epmsystem2
Now the problem is that, I am able to Add and Connect to 1st instance of Essbase (SERVERNAME:1423) using the admin account in EAS,
but when I try to add the 2nd Instance of Essbase as  SERVERNAME:1424 using admin account , It throws following error:
Error on the EAS console:

EPM system Diagnostic run on 2nd instance shows following under "Essbase/Essbase":

Error: Cannot sign on as user already signed on.
Recommended Action: Check Essbase Server is started.
Can you please guide me what needs to be done to access this 2nd instance.
1) Do I need to have a separeate ADMIN user creation for this 2nd essbase instance? if Yes, then HOW?
2) Can I just copy the essbase.sec of 1st instance to 2nd instance?
Can You please point me to a some reference to have multiple independent instances of Essbase on same machine?
I sincerely thanks for your time to this request.
Warm Regards,
Amit

Super John,
Sincere thanks for your quick response As Suggested ,
I just followed the following steps and it worked
1) Run the "Stop server" (a shortcut on the desktop) to STOP the services
2) Run the D:\Oracle\Middleware\user_projects\epmsystem2\bin\stopEssbase.bat   to STOP the 2nd instance
3) Run the D:\Oracle\Middleware\user_projects\epmsystem1\bin\stopEssbase.bat   to STOP the 1st instance
4) For 2nd instance rename the Essbase.log and essbase.sec file to some dummy names e.g. like Essbase_old.log and essbase_old.sec
5) Now Run the "Start Server" (desktop shortcut)
6) Run the D:\Oracle\Middleware\user_projects\epmsystem2\bin\startEssbase.bat   to START the 2nd instance
7) Run the D:\Oracle\Middleware\user_projects\epmsystem1\bin\startEssbase.bat   to START the 1st instance
8) Add the 2nd and 1st instance to EAS

Amit Porwal

  • Multiple Instances of OEDQ on a single server

    Hi,
I am running a Linux Machine (Linux 2.6.18-308.1.1.0.1.el5), on which I have the latest version of Oracle 11g release 2 installed.
I have an instance of oracle Enterprise Data Quality tool running on an apache-tomcat-7 server. Port 8080
Now I have a requirement of Installing another instance of OEDQ on the same server, but a different APACHE_HOME directory and a different Port Number (8081).
So the question is, Can we install multiple instances of OEDQ on a single server?
If so, what are the prerequisites to be maintained.
I did my bit of tries, but ended up having issues with some java errors.
I have posted the error message below.
    SEVERE: Context initialization failed

    Hi,
Multiple instances of EDQ on a single server is technically possible provided the installer takes care to avoid port conflicts. It is not the case that there is a single port used by an EDQ server, for example.
For various reasons, it is not officially supported; attempting to diagnose issues on custom installations on Tomcat is especially difficult and we do not provide documentation on this. In general, the requirement usually comes up for Dev/Test instances (as there is no performance advantage of using multiple instances on a single server), where we would recommend the use of virtualization where this is a requirement.

    Mike

  • How to install multiple E-Business Suite in a single server?

    Hello,
I read somewhere that we can install multiple E-Business Suite in a single server as long as the storage is enough, is it true? If yes do any of you can give me the steps to install it or refer me to a link? I'd searched here but couldn't find it, hope that I didn't miss something. What I want to do is install Vision database and another one is fresh install for testing, both in a single server. There will be about 20 people accessing that system. What kind of hardware must I use? Thanks.

If you want to run 2 instances concurrently, It would be safe to assume you want 8 GB of RAM plus enough storage to host both instances, backups, archive logs, patches etc. For CPU, most entry level servers can be single, dual or quad socket, or CPU socket. Most CPUs are dual core, meaning there are 2 physical CPU cores in each socket. So if you get a 2 socket dual core server, you see 4 physical CPUs on the operating system. If you get a 4 socket dual core server, you see 8 physical CPUs. If you want to run R12 applications, you will definately need 4 GB of ram per instance (E-Business Suite installation). 11i might get by on 3 GB of ram per instance.

  • Multiple Instances of NetWeaver in a single installation (binary)

    Hi,
My product has several versions. In WebLogic I have one installation and have created multiple instances each for each of the version. Can I do the same thing in NetWeaver? I am looking to see if I can create multiple instances of NetWeaver with a single binary installation by creating more directories/configuration files. Please let me know if this is possible and if so how it needs to be done. I am using NetWeaver's Java engine only.
       Thanks and regards,
    Raghu

    Hi Raghu
In Netweaver also u can have serveral intances. There are two options:
1.Create seperate standalone instances. Here each instance will be a unique identity indepent to each other. You will have different SID(System identification number for each)
2.Create a centrel instances and u can have several dialog instances in the same machine. Here the SID will be one but as required you will have a seperate directory under that centrel instance for each diaolog instances.

  • Install Multiple Instance of sql server

    Hi guys,
I have one question. How can i install multiple instance in sql server ( I am using 180 days VHD to access sql server r2 standard edition). I am accessing sql server through Hyper-V Manager. Can anyone guide me please.
    Regards,
    Jagan

    Hello Jagan,
For each instance you have to run the SQL Server installer and assign a unique instance Name during Installation; for each instance the Installation procedure is the same.

Our application allows printing to be directed to different folders depending on the document to be printed.  However, the Adobe printer driver printing preferences directs the file to a specific location, so we have to store all documents in one folder.  Is it possible to have multiple instances of the printer driver, for instance Adobe PDF 1, Adobe PDF 2, with the output folder set to a different location for each driver, or is there a simpler way of specifying the output folders?
    Thanks

(Instructions for XP Pro and Acrobat 8.0)
Open the printers folder and click on Add a printer.
Click Next on the Welcome screen
Select 'Local Printer attached to this computer', uncheck Automatically detect and install my Plug and Play printer, click Next
Click on Create a new port, select 'Adobe PDF Port' from the list, click Next
Select the folder you want the PDF stored in, click OK
On the Install Printer Software screen click on Have Disk
Click on the Browse button and browse to 'Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 8.0\Acrobat\xtras\AdobePDF' (May be different for your setup)
Select the AdobePDF.inf (English version) and click OK
Select the Adobe PDF Convertor (there may be several listed, I always choose the top one) and click Next
If the Use Existing Driver dialog is displayed select 'Keep existing driver' click Next
Name the Printer i.e. Adobe PDF 1, click Next
Set the sharing options, print a test page if you wish and finish.
Now when you print to this printer from within an application it will create the PDF in the specified folder
You can repeat this process for a number of outputs.
    Hope this helps

  • Multiple instances of 9iAS in a single server

    Hi,
Is it possible to have multiple instances of the 9iAS in the same machine.
I have managed to install two different instances of the infrastructure on the same machine with different homes. But while trying to install the second instance of the portal and wireless the installer selects the earlier instance of the infrastrucure (SSO and Meta repository). Is there anyway around this?
    Thanks
    Vinodh R.

I installed infrastructure in one machine and trying to install ias in other machine using infra on the first one. but iam getting one typical error again and again.
i.e when during the installation of ias we have enter the values of existing sso and ias-admin pwd...i entered the infra sso host name and also ias admin pwd. but it says..
'return value from sso running function is INVALID'. I want to install ias on second machine so that resources are not wasted on the first host. also i am getting wwc-41490 error when trying to login the sso page of infrastructure host. why is this. Kindly help me as portal config is very imp for me.

Actually i want multiple instance of Jboss with different port number running on same machine.
I tried with this steps, but it does not work for me.

Then you haven't followed the method correctly. That error is
addressed specifcally on that site, as that error is the main
reason for the site. Did you read the note about the "known
bug" because of the one port that is not included in the
    sample file?
If you had tried the first method (set up a second IP and
started both servers with the command line option providing
an IP) there is no way this error could happen.
If you followed the second method, and specified a different
port for every port listed (including the one that is not in the
sample file per default) then there is, once again, no way that
    this error could happen.
The error happens on the second server because it is trying
to bind the same port, using the same address, as the first
server, which is impossible if you fully implement one of the
    two methods described there.

  • Install database , application and search index on Single machine ?

Under SAP PROD PAK SERVER 4.3 -> Windows Server on IA32 32bit (SAP Education Products" SAP PRODUCTIVITY PAK BY ANCILE" SAP PRODUCTIVITY PAK 4.3) I am only getting the below files-
    RWDuPerfServer43P_1-10009622.ZIP
    RWDuPerfServer43P_2-10009622.ZIP
Is this the right server software ?
    - Can we install database , application and search index on same machine ?
    - OS is windows (2003, 2008, ???), Is RWD only supported on 32 bit windows with IA processor or any processor and also on 64 bit ?
    - Where can I find the installation document or all the prerequistes ?
    - Which database is preferable SQL, oracle or DB2 , currently we have SAP system on DB2
    - Do we need to integrate the RWD with all SAP system landscapes ?
    - Also suggest the hardware requirement (RAMprocessorhard disk space) if 1 server installation is possible for all the req (Search Server + Database Server + Web Application Server + Administrator Workbench)
    Thanks

    Hi Saurabh,
These are the latest patches - 4.31 and 4.32.
To install 4.30 you will need to go to the "Installation and Upgrade" section of Service market place and download and install this first.
    Installations and Upgrades -
       P
           "SAP PRODUCTIVITY PAK BY ANCILE"
                SAP PRODUCTIVITY PAK 4.3
The patches can be downloaded and installed then.
The documentation will be within the installation files.
    Hope this helps,

  • Installing multiple instances accessing the same database

    Hi,
I want to install two different instances of Oracle 10g in two different machines which will access the same database which will be stored in the shared storage.
Is it possible to install them without installing RAC? The instances will be one active and the other passive, so the services will be up in one server and down in the other and the switching (shutting down one server and starting up the other) will be manual.
Two servers will be running Linux and clustered in Linux level.
Does Oracle offers this solution without installing Clusterware software?
    Thank you

    > The instances will be one active and the other passive, so the services will be up in one server and down in
the other and the switching (shutting down one server and starting up the other) will be manual
Missed this part as I was thinking proper cluster and RAC.
This is neither. Yes, this can be done using two servers and shared storage.
Is it a good idea? Not really. As this configuration does not provide redundancy at physical database level. You loose that storage.. bye-bye database. Does not matter whether you have a 100 backup servers that can be used.
Thus the business reasons that you are trying to meet with this config have to be clarified and expectations determined.
Separate servers using Data Guard will be a far more superior solution in many respects.

  • Installing multiple instances on 11g

the install guide says I have to run RCU and create a seperate schema for each installed instance..
    I did that..
I used RCU and it created INST1_BIPLATFORM and INST2_BIPLATFORM..
I installed BI into INST1_BIPLATFORM with a path of D:\oracle\middleware
    and it works..
I then installed BI again into INST2_BIPLATFORM with a path of D:\oracle\middleware2 (using same weblogic for both)
problem was, during the second install it stopped all services, so it didn't detect the ports were in use, and used the same port numbers for both Instances..
I've tried changing the port numbers but still cant get the second install to work..
is there any instructions anywhere on doing this?
we need two instances running on the same server (two seperate rpd's and catalogs - not scaled out)

after rebooting the original instance is back to normal..
    the new services all started..
opmn shows Alive on all components for both instances..
but I cannot access the new instance with the web browser..
I found where it says the new admin server is on port 7002 but cant access that either..

  • Multiple instances of app in a single JVM

    Hi all,
I saw an article either on the web or in a magazine not too long ago about how to "detect" if the app is already running, and if so, it hands off the new instance to the already running JVM, which then creates a thread to run the Java app in. As it turns out, my app will be used in an ASP environment, through Citrix. We may have as many as 50 to 100 users running the same app, each with their own unique user ID, but all using the same one server to run it on. Each instance eats up 25MB of memory right now. So the question is if anybody knows of a URL or an app like this that can handle the process of running the same (or even different Java) apps in one JVM as separate threads, instead of requring several instances of the JVM to run? I know this article presented a fully working example, and I believe I know enough to do it but I wanted ot use the article as a reference to make sure it is done right. I know that each app basically would use the same one "launcher" program that would on first launch "listen" to a port, as well as send a message through the port to see if an existing launcher was running. If it does, it hands off the Java app to be run to the existing luancher application and shuts down the 2nd launching app. By using this method, the JVM eats up its normal memory, but each Java app only consumes its necessary memory as well and doesn't use up more JVM instance memory.
    Thanks.

Anyone have any ideas on this one?

  • Limit FPS of multiple instances of vmware on the same machine not over IP

Issue: How can I limit the fps of multiple vmachines on the same machine? (not over IP)
I want to run several vmachines on the same physical machine and limit their fps. I'm aware it can be done with PCoIP but this is not over the network.
This is for non commercial use.
    Thanks.

Please try -Dweblogic.system.bindAddr=<a.b.c.d> in your startWebLogic.sh.

  • Multiple instances of OC4J on the same machine

Is there a way to cofigure OC4J to have a few processes on the same machine, all listening to the same ports?
My purpose is to develope and deploy a few applications on the same machine, and each application should has its own process, so if onw fails or restarts, it will not effect the other applications and the other programmers.
I don't want to make each application to be bounded to differnt port.
    is it possible ?

Two instances of oc4j cannot listen to the same port...you will
    get an error.
To do this, you will need to cluster oc4j. This is fairly easy,
but you app needs to be "clusterable". All classes need to be
serializable which are used by your servlets. The
<distributable /> tag needs to be in your web.xml file. No
stateful session beans can be used. (sorry, but oc4j doens't yet
    support clustering with sfsb's).
The second step is that your default-web-site.xml or *-web-
site.xml file should be set up for clustering. Do this by
creating a cluster-island attribute in your web-site tag. Also
change the port from 8000 to something like 8080 or 8090 or
something else. It should look like this:
    <web-site host="192.168.1.101" port="8080" display-name="some-
    name" cluster-island="1">
    <default-web-app application="someapp" name="someappname" />
    <frontend host="192.168.1.101" port="8000" />
    <access-log path="../log/some-web-access.log" />
    </web-site>
Your server.xml and application.xml will be the same as when you
    don't cluster.
Make sure you have 3 different copies of your j2ee/home
    directories...of course with different names....like home1 and
    cluster.
Edit the rmi.xml and jms.xml files to change the port number
that the home1 oc4j will listen to. The jms port is usually 9127
by default, so use 9128. The rmi port is 23791, so change it to
21792. This will keep the rmi and jms servers from conflicting.
Make sure that the home1 config/default-web-site.xml uses a
different port than 8080, say 8090, but the cluster-island name
    is still 1.
Open terminal windows for each instance of oc4j, and start them
in the normal way.... java -jar orion.jar
Open a terminal window for the j2ee/cluster, and issue this
    command:
    java -jar loadbalancer.jar -host 192.168.1.101 -port 8000
You should see that each of your oc4j instances are recognized.
There...that wasn't so bad, was it?
