Installing NetBeans

Hi,
I am totally green when it comes to Java. I am a Cobol programmer for the past seven years.
I installed Java EE to a non-default library. I tried to install NetBeans 6.0 to the same library. But it could no find the JDK. How do I direct the installation to the right path when the install wizard does not interrogate me for it? How can I direct it to right path in DOS for Windows XP or otherwise?
Thanks,
Java-Alien

The above did not answer my question, which was what you mean, not what viable means.I meant what I said. Why would you assume I meant something other than what I said? Are you asking for me to give you a list of specific cases or generate for you a tech support call history list from Microsoft? Do you somehow not buy into my crazy notion that Vista has serious issues for lots of people? If so, you might try Google. :-)

And I just googled and found folks who apparently had success using some version or other of Netbeans on Vista.Uh, right. That means it's not practical/viable. Having to hack (basically you have to be an admin) to get programs, drivers, and hardware to work (if you even succeed) means it's not viable IMO. This is the same reason I don't use Linux. Mac FTW!The above did answer my question. I think though that dismissing Mac, Linux and Vista as not viable because something does not work on them is a bit of a stretch, I'll clarify. Let's say my brakes (or my headlight, my steering wheel, or seat belt) don't work on my car. I don't believe it's a stretch to say that my car is not very viable, capable, or better yet fit at the moment. The truth of the matter is that the engine can run great but if I can't put tires on it it's a lemon.
but hey, if that's the way you call it I won't argue with you.Your logic is odd since you are indeed arguing with me. Nothing wrong with arguing though.

My system running win XP (SP2) and java SDK 1.4.1. I found error "a suitable jvm could not be found. please run the program again using the option -is:javahome <java home dir>" while installating NetBeans 4.1.

    Hi,
check what you set in ORACLE_SID, it should be your DB SID.
Also it could be the problem of SGA.
1.Increase the System Global Area by editing the parameter file of the database.
2.Increase the virtual memory in your system. It should be 4 times of RAM .
Also check all services are running properly or not.

  • Install netbeans for IDM7.1

    Hi,
I am planning to install netbeans 5.5 or 6.0 and the plugin for IDM 7.1.
1)My question is whether the plugin has to be installed seperately from the regular netbeans install or when you install netbeans the IDM plugin is automatically setup?
    2) I already have IDM 7.1 installed and uses tomcat 5.0 as the application server. Will this conflict with the tomcat 6.0 that is bundled with netbeans.?
    3) When there is an upgrade of tomcat also invoved what other things di I have to take into consideration?
    4) I understand that you need jdk1.5 or higher running and it is part of the netbeans install. So apart from setting JAVA_HOME and WSHOME are there any other environment variables I have to set? I am using Windows XP.
I am a newbie to Identity Management and would appreciate any input from the community.
    Thanks,
    meera

1)My question is whether the plugin has to be installed seperately from the regular netbeans install or when you install netbeans the IDM plugin is automatically setup?
First of all i recomend using netbeans 5.5 ( it was built for that specific version ) . You just specify a plugin file in tools/update center .
    2) no , you can create a remote idm project and specify where idm rpc router is intalled
    ex:
    http://host:8080/idm/servlet/rpcrouter2
    3) As much as i know you do not have to specify anything as an environment variable , it is completely configurable

  • How do i install netbeans?

I will be taking a java programming class next month and wanted to tinker around before I get into a formal class. I cannot install netbeans 6.5.1. i uninstalled java 6, and updated the mac version of java 5 (update 4 i believe). I have xcode installed. ( i downloaded the bundle with the iphone OS )
i install netbeans 6.5.1 and click on it...it just bounces in the dock 3 times and closes. Nothing happens. What am I doing wrong?

i am running leopard 10.5.6. I read some issues that netbeans had with the mac Java 6 so i uninstalled it when nothing worked.
I will try to repair permissions, but it sounds like i might have to reinstall leopard in order for it to work . I was planning on doing this anyway...
I should just download the windows components and work with it in a VM via VirtualBox. But I really want to learn how to work Java in a mac environment.

  • Big problems installing NetBeans..

    Hi,
Im trying to install NetBeans in order to do uni work at home. Ive tried to installl it on both my PC and MAC. I would be so so grateful if someone could give me a nice easy list of what i need to install. (and maybe even direct links to those components) Assume i am a complete noob at computers and explain everything likewise - as i am tearing my hair here!
ps, id really like to get it running on both PC and MAC :)
thank you to anyone who can help!
    Jonny

    better still, install eclipse (www.eclipse.org)
seriously: eclipse trounces netbeansI use both and find they both have their own warts. They're both good enough to use, and are equivalent. Right now Eclipse has greater versatility due to the variety of plugins, but the management of them is terrible. Right now NetBeans is better at GUI and network development out of the can. I'm sure that relative strengths will change with time.

  • Issue installing Netbeans

I installed jdk and jre packages, and now i want to install netbeans.
I do pacman -S netbeans, but pacman says netbeans needs java-gcj-compat, which conflicts with jre - so, he suggests me to uninstall jre, but i dont want to do so.
In fact, in another machine i have jre and netbeans together working without any problem.....
How can i install netbeans ithout having to install this java-gcj-compat and replace jre?
    Thanks!!

As far as i can see the only dependency is "java-enviroment" wich should be satisfied with jdk and jre...
So if you are positively that you have "jdk" and "jre". And you are sure that no "java-gcj-compat" is installed (it conflicts).
Then: install it with "pacman --sync --nodeps netbeans" and dependency check is skipped
If this behaviour is a bug you should report it
