Instant client on Fedora 12 ?

I've just installed instant client on FC 12 and when tried to run sqlplus I got the following error:
./sqlplus: error while loading shared libraries: libsqlplus.so: cannot enable executable stack as shared object requires: Permission denied
Think this is from SELinux , but how to overcome it ?

I just got perl-DBD-Oracle instant client running on FC12 i386. Here is what I did...
VERY important Install this
$ sudo yum install compat-libstdc++-33
I do not know the difference between compat-libstdc++-296 and compat-libstdc++-33.
Get the Instant client from Oracle. Google it and then sign up and download the i386.rpm or x64 files
I installed
oracle-instantclient-basic-10.2.0.4-1.i386
oracle-instantclient-devel-10.2.0.4-1.i386
oracle-instantclient-sqlplus-10.2.0.4-1.i386
Get the oracle selinux and Perl SRPMs from http://www.redhat.com/spacewalk/source/0.7/fedora/12/
oracle-instantclient-selinux-10.2-17.fc12.src.rpm
oracle-selinux-0.1-23.13.fc12.src.rpm
oracle-lib-compat-10.2-21.fc12.src.rpm
perl-DBD-Oracle-1.23-4.fc12.src.rpm
build rpms from srpms with rpmbuild --rebuild
I ran
$ rpmbuild --rebuild perl-DBD-Oracle-1.23-4.fc12.src.rpm
$ rpmbuild --rebuild oracle-selinux-0.1-23.13.fc12.src.rpm
$ rpmbuild --rebuild oracle-lib-compat-10.2-21.fc12.src.rpm
$ rpmbuild --rebuild oracle-instantclient-selinux-10.2-17.fc12.src.rpm
Install these RPMs but I do not know if all of these are needed..
sudo rpm -Uhv
oracle-instantclient-selinux-10.2-17.fc12.noarch.rpm
oracle-instantclient-sqlplus-selinux-10.2-17.fc12.noarch.rpm
oracle-lib-compat-10.2-21.fc12.i386.rpm
oracle-nofcontext-selinux-0.1-23.13.fc12.noarch.rpm
perl-DBD-Oracle-1.23-4.fc12.i386.rpm
DO NOT install oracle-selinux I could not get things to work with this package.
Copy your tnsname file to
$ sudo mkdir /usr/lib/oracle/10.2.0.4/client/network/
$ sudo mkdir /usr/lib/oracle/10.2.0.4/client/network/adm
$ sudo cp tnsnames.ora /usr/lib/oracle/10.2.0.4/client/network/admin
Add these two lines to your bashrc file
$ tail -2 ~/.bashrc
export ORACLE_HOME=/usr/lib/oracle/10.2.0.4/client
export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/usr/lib/oracle/10.2.0.4/client/lib/
Reload the shell
$ exec bash

  • Error Compiling php 5.1.6 with Oracle Instant Client 10.1.0.5 on Fedora 5

    Hello
    I have Oracle 10.1.0 enterprise database installed on a Windows 2003 server.
    I have another machine that has Fedora Core 5 installed on it. I downloaded:
    Apache 2.2.3
    Php 5.1.6
    OracleInstantClient 10.1.0.5 (base and skdk packages) from technet.oracle.com
    I created a directory called /usr/lib/instantclient10_1 in which I unzipped
    the files for the Oracle Instant Client and the SDK into /usr/lib/instantclient10_1.
    So inside /usr/lib/instantclient10_1 I have:
    all the unzipped filed from the base for the instant client as well as
    a directory called sdk with files inside this subdirectory.
    I compiled and installed Apache.
    I then tried to configure php using the instantclient with the configure option
    --with-oci8=instantclient/usr/lib/instantclient10_1
    The first time I did this I got the error: "link from
    /usr/lib/instantclient10_1/libclntsh.so to libclntsh.so.10
    not found"
    Well I had the libclntsh.so.10 but no such link. So I did the following:
    ln -s libclntsh.so.10.1 libclntsh.so
    I assume this was OK to do but I found it strange that I had to do this.
    Question #1 - why should I have to do this?
    I then tried to configure php again but got an error that I paste in from
    the debug.log. From this debug log you can see the configure options I gave for
    php as well as the error. It says "cannot find -lirc". Now I did put into
    /etc/ld.so.conf the line /usr/lib/gaim since that is where libirc.so is and ran
    ldconfig but it still complained. When I copied libirc.so into /usr/lib it then said there were
    lots of errors in that libirc.so. The only item in the configure options depending on lirc is
    the with-oci8.  Why does with-oci8 depend on lirc?
    I also tried the above on Red Hat AS 4.0 and got the same errors.
    Question #2 -- what do I do?
    Thank You
    Gail Lange
    Here is the debug.log in the case when libirc.so is just in /usr/lib/gaim:

    To be perfectly honest, I'm not sure. Everything I could find on it had to do with IRC or some kind of remote control thing (for controlling audio/media players). Maybe if Ivan stops by he'll know what it means... he knows quite a lot about the inner workings of many of these libraries.
    http://us3.php.net/install.unix was the most useful info I could find.
    There's also this thread:

  • Install and Configure Oracle client in Fedora core 3

    Hi guys
    I am raghu ,
    I need a help regarding Oracle client installation in Fedora core 3
    can any one guide where to get oracle client and installation steps
    Thanks
    Raghu

    Hello.
    You could use paper for installation of 9i or 10g database because client is one of options of installer.
    http://ivan.kartik.sk/oracle/install_ora9_fedora.html
    http://ivan.kartik.sk/oracle/install_ora10gR2_fedora.html
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/tech/linux/install/index.html
    You could also install only instant client (so you don't need download all 3 CDs of Oracle database) and set appropriate enviroment.
    You could obtain it from:
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/tech/oci/instantclient/instantclient.html

  • Oracle 9i Client on Fedora Core 3

    Has anyone managed to successfully install Oracle 9 Client on Fedora Core 3? Installing the 10g Client was no problem, but I need to run the 9i Client as the 10g Client cannot be used when connecting to 9i our Management Server.
    All help appreciated!

    you need to tell path to script.
    like /instatntclient_odbc.sh /usr/local
    /usr/local is the place where unixodbc configuration fiels are placed
    If you are done with your setup.
    Can you please let me know whether oracle client software is also required or oracle instant client 10g and odbc will work

  • Instant Client 10.2.0.1 and Linux...

    I am new to the Linux world and am trying to create an OCCI application. I have the following configuration:
    Linux Fedora Core 4
    Oracle Instant Client 10.2.0.1
    gcc version 4.0.0 20050519 (Red Hat 4.0.0-8)
    Will this configuation allow me to create OCCI applications? I have created a simple application that only tries to create an Envionment object. I have tried to compile my app with 2 different commands:
    g++ -I/usr/include/oracle/10.2.0.1/client OracleTest.cpp -o OracleTest.exe -L/usr/lib/oracle/10.2.0.1/client/lib -lclntsh -locci
    and
    g++ -I/usr/include/oracle/10.2.0.1/client OracleTest.cpp -o OracleTest.exe -L/usr/lib/oracle/10.2.0.1/client/lib /usr/lib/oracle/10.2.0.1/client/lib/libclntsh.so.10.1 /usr/lib/oracle/10.2.0.1/client/lib/libocci.so.10.1
    The first command returns saying that the compiler cannot find either of the specified libraries (all of my paths are correct). The second command returns all kinds of string errors.
    Does anyone have a similar configuration to mine and have they successfully created OCCI applications?
    Thank you,
    Jason

    OCCI Libraries packaged with 10.2.0.1 Instant Client are gcc323 compatible only.

  • Edit function in instant client ?

    Hello,
    I've installed the Instant Client on my Fedora Core 3 pc,
    but I can't seem to get the edit function to work with an external editor, or load files i created using vi. Where do I put my files, or what config file do I have to change to be able to use the edit function?
    PS: I'm connecting to an oracle server located at my school
    Greetings

    OK - I have the answer !
    Apparently I hit the tiny tabs in the top left that collapse/expand all the options.
    Have all the functions back now. But, where do you explain that stuff ??

  • Not able to connect VS Web Developer Express through instant client 10

    I just spent 10 hours attempting to connect Web Developer Express 2010 to an Oracle 10g database. In the end the solution was beyond simple, but with the existing threads there is a lot of talking around the problem. I’m posting this in case it might help someone else.
    Obtain the Oracle instant client software that will work for your database. You will only need the basic package.
    http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/database/features/instant-client/index-100365.html
    Extract the contents to a temp location on your hard disk
    Create a directory for the application – it could be anything, but here is what I used
    C:\instantclient
    Copy the extracted files into the directory you just created.
    Right click on my computer and choose properties
    Under advanced and environment variables you will need to add the directory you created above to the system variables PATH. You will need to create a new system variable called TNS_ADMIN and put the same c:\instantclient path in it.
    Create the file tnsnames.ora under the c:\instantclient directory and put your customized entry in it. Below is an example.
    tnsnams.ora file contents
    <Alias for this tnsnames entry> =
    (DESCRIPTION =
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = <Your Oracle Server>)(PORT = 1521))
    (CONNECT_DATA =
    (SERVER = DEDICATED)
    (SERVICE_NAME = <Your database instance>)
    It’s a good idea to restart your system after this installation.
    In web developer express use the .NET Framework Data Provider for OLE DB.
    Here is the key piece of information!!
    Under server name you need to use the alias from the tnsnames.ora file entry. If you do not do this it will not pick up the SERVICE_NAME parm and will give you some goofy error like:
    ORA-12514: TNS:listener could not resolve SERVICE_NAME given in connect descriptor
    or
    ORA-12514: TNS:listener does not currently know of service requested in connect descriptor

  • Why do I need instant client if I installed 11g1 and it works

    sqldeveloper works
    em works
    sqlplus works
    I have a problem with oci8, php 5.2.6, apache 2.2 ...all are installed and working
    All the instructions I've found (and there are many) talk about
    (1) Zend installs what I already have
    (2) installing apache, oci8, php and instant client form scratch
    I am NOT going to reduce a working system to scratch.
    BTW my oci programs work and they have in the past worked through a client.

    What Oracle Software is installed on the machine: client or server?
    I concur that there is no need for Instant Client here, indeed it would be a bad idea.
    Anything that works with Instant Client should also work with the regular client.
    If you encounter any Oracle-specific error messages, feel free to post them and ask for an opinion (even though this forum is reserved for Instant Client, it might be an obvious problem).

  • Failed to install php-oci8 with instant Client for linux 64

    Hello,
    I have a 64-bits Linux box with RHEL4, and PHP version has been upgraded from 4.3.9 to 5.1.6. I try to make the connection to remote oracle server.
    I download instantclient-basic-linuxppc-10.2.0.2-20060327.zip , and follow the instruction to
    install it.
    But when i try to install php-oci8*.rpm, no matter which i use:
    php-oci8-5.1.6-1.el5.i386.rpm or php-oci8-4.3.9-2.2.el4.i386.rpm
    The installation always failed due to dependencies errors with oracle instant client.
    I also tried with some other packages like: php-oci8-4.3.9-3.el4.x86_64.rpm
    All my tries gave me dependency errors.
    sometime like:
    error: Failed dependencies:
    libclntsh.so.10.1 is needed by php-oci8-5.1.6-1.el5.i386
    oracle-instantclient = 10.2.0.3 is needed by
    php-oci8-5.1.6-1.el5.i386And I cannt find the right RPM for oracle instant client for linux 64 bits box, and php-oci8 5.1.6 64 bits.

    Hi Rolf,
    It's works when you don't have a oracle.dataaccess.client settings(like to change oracle types).
    At the end I had to install ODAC using Beta 2, because i am using mapping settings(oracle.dataaccess.client).
    I am looking to test the new version 11.2.0.2.50, it's looks like have a XCopy version.
    Let us know if you test the new version.
    Thanks,
    Jorge

  • Availability of RPM Linux x86-64 10.2 instant client

    good morning,
    an increasingly important platform for us is Linux x86-64 (actually RedHat Enterprise Linux 4 x86-64), the instant client is available only in zip packaging. Could you indicate whether and approximatically when it could be made available in .rpm package.
    It is very important for our deployment on all of the client machines.

    PS: on RHEL3 x86 platform, we use the RPM version of the 10.2 Linux x86 and this is very convenient. We would reproduce the same ease of deployment for RHEL4 x86-64

    good morning,
    an increasingly important platform for us is Linux x86-64 (actually RedHat Enterprise Linux 4 x86-64), the instant client is available only in zip packaging. Could you indicate whether and approximatically when it could be made available in .rpm package.
    It is very important for our deployment on all of the client machines.
    I thank you a lot in advance for your time and answer,
    eric

  • Instant Client on 64-bit Windows 7: Driver does not appear in System DSN

    Instant Client on 64-bit Windows 7: Driver does not appear in System DSN tab when creating a new Data source.
    What I did so far:
    I downloaded the basic and odbc zips for Window 64-bit.
    Unzipped the basic zip.
    Unzipped the odbc zip to the same directory.
    Added the dir path to the System Environment Variable called Path.
    Double-clicked on the odbc_install.exe to run it from Windows Explorer.
    Then I tried to add the driver to create a new data source but it does not appear in the list of drivers.
    From a cmd window, I navigated to the instant client directory and tried to run odbc_install again.
    I got the message: Oracle ODBC Driver with same name already exists.
    What am I missing?

    hello, I did it like that you say,but the result also is "oracle odbc driver with same name already exists". I don't kown what can I do it ,Thank you!

  • Unable to install 64-bit Oracle ODBC Instant Client on Windows 2008 R2 machine.

    I am trying to upgrade the Oracle ODBC driver from the 32-bit version currently installed (ODBC Instant Client Release 10.1.0.5.0, April 2006) to a newer 64-bit version but have not been successful.  I have had success at uninstalling and reinstalling the existing 32-bit version package (release 10.1.0.5.0) however when I've tried to install the 64-bit ODBC Instant Client (Release 12.1, December 2012), I run the odbc_install.exe application inside the package.  it appears to run without issue/compliant, but then I do not see the 64-bit Oracle ODBC driver anywhere, either if I go via the traditional Administrator Tools --> ODBC Data Sources or if I go to the c:\windows\syswow64\odbcad32.exe route.  Further investigation into the ReadMe file (ODBC_IC_Readme_Win.html) reveals that you need the 3 DLLs oci.dll, oraociei11.dll and orannzsbb11.dll which the package does not come with. Where could I obtain the correct version of these DLLs or else where can I get an installation package which already contains them?
    Any help with this is greatly appreciated.  Thank you
