Instant Client on Mac OS 10.7 (Lion)

When will the 64 bit version of the Instant Client be made available for Mac OS 10.7 (Lion)?

You can use DBD::Oracle but you will need to use a 32-Bit Perl. The default Perl is 64-Bit. It is pretty easy to get a 32-Bit Perl up and running with perlbrew.

  • Oracle 11g INSTANT CLIENT for Mac OS 10.8 with SQLLDR and WRAP

    To Oracle please upgrade INSTANT Client 11g and/or 12c (future) and include two additional utilities I always use SQLLDR and WRAP. Currently I have to open a Linux VM to wrap and use SQL*Loader. I would prefer to do it all in the terminal window.
    Actually I would like to see sqlldr and wrap utilities included with all instant clients (Linux, Windows, Mac OS, etc)

    Can you see the difference? (btw i am sure, genezi -v as sidadm worked with 11.2.0.1)
    sidadm > /oracle/client/10x_64/instantclient_10204/genezi -v

    Or check in SAPGui -> Menu -> Status
    Cheers Michael
    PS: the cause for the behavior is, that there is always a client library in the $ORACLE_HOME directory too. And you have to be careful which one you (genezi) picks...

  • Instant Client Installation

    Dear All
    How to install instant client ? i install database 10g in my server and using 10g client for client but i want to know how to use instant client on client machine
    Regards
    Shahzaib ismail

    I installed instant client 11.1 on windows XP. Also put sqlplus in the same directory.
    Set TNS_ADMIN environment variable = "C:\instantclient_11_1\tnsnames.ora"
    set ORACLE_HOME environment variable = "C:\instantclient_11_1"
    I put a valid tnsnames.ora in said directory too.
    Sqlplus gives error
    Message file sp1<Lang>.msb not found
    Error 6 initializing SQL*Plus
    which is absurd because this is an instant client. There is not supposed to be a home, all this is supposed to be automatic. MS Visual Studio 2008 cannot connect to it either.
    Does 11g instant client work on XP at all ?
    I have installed 10g instant client on mac os x and windows xp, no problem.
    Thanks for answering. Any help appreciated. Also, if you can think of another forum I should ask this question, would appreciate it.

  • How to install OSX 10.6 client in Mac Mini Server 10.7 Lion Server

    I am ordering a Mac Mini Server with Lion Server 10.7, with 256GB SSD and 750GB HD.  I want to use Snow Leopard (client/workstation) instead.  Previously I have already purchased retailed version of 10.5 clients and 10.6 client upgrade.  Please advise the best approach from the followings (or more suggestions from you guys...).
    (A) The boot disk (likely to be the SSD) will be re-formatted and re-installed by "clean" installation of 10.6 client.  But I am not sure whether all hardware drivers for the new Mac Mini (2011) are available in the 10.6 client disk.  Also, it seems to me that installation disk of 10.7 server will not be provided.  So I shall not be able to re-install server version again if I want to change this Mac to a server sometimes afterwards.  Of course I would like to keep this server software for investment protection, no matter I use it or not.  If 10.6 client can be installed, I shall use bootcamp to install Windows 7 also.  So there will be 2 partitions to be usable aparently.
    (B) The factory-installed OSX 10.7 server is kept, and one more partition is created (with Disk Utilties).  Snow Leopard workstation 10.6 will be installed at this new partition.  If 10.6 client can be installed, I shall use bootcamp to install Windows 7 also.  So there will be 4 partitions, including 10.7 server, 10.6 client, 10.7 recovery drive and bootcamp for Windows 7.  Since I want to put all OS software at the SSD (faster boot-up and better performance), the drawback is that each partition is with less space.
    Do you guys have other ideas or suggestions?
    [Background]
    In fact I want to make use of its strongest computing power (amongst available Mac Mini computers in store), quad-core CPU & dual disks,  to run music applications (DAWs).  Operating systems are put at SSD, and data is put at traditional harddisk.  As some music applications (e.g. Calkwalk Dimension) only support 10.6 currently, I need to down-grade from Lion server to Snow Leopard workstation.  Also I think applications can run faster in a hardware with  workstation OS (rather than server version). Please correct me if this belief is wrong.
    Thanks / Howard.

    If you completely wipe the original Mac mini boot drive you will wipe the Server.app software an dlose it. You should make a backup first, perhaps by saving the entire boot drive as a Disk Image file on to another drive.
    In terms of install 10.6, the 10.6 DVD will not boot on the new Mac mini even if you connect a DVD drive. You need to put the Mac mini in to FireWire Target Disk Mode and connect it to an older Mac that will allow booting from that DVD, then install on to the Mac mini (over FireWire), you then need to upgrade it using the 10.6.8 Combo Updater this will add the drivers needed for the new Mac mini.

  • Attempting to Run 'Instant Client' via XCode on Mac OS X (v10.4.6)

    Environment: OS X (10.4.6) on G4.
    The Setup:
    I used 'Oracle Instant Client Installer' {http://www.kyngchaos.com/} to install the necessary Oracle libraries here:
    [Users/oracle]ls /usr/local/oracle/lib
    libclntsh.10.1.dylib* libclntsh.so@ libnnz10.dylib@ libocci.dylib.10.1@ libocijdbc.dylib@
    libclntsh.dylib@ libnnz.10.dylib* libocci.10.1.dylib* libociei.dylib* libocijdbc10.dylib@
    libclntsh.dylib.10.1@ libnnz.dylib@ libocci.dylib@ libocijdbc.10.dylib*
    I've read that LD_LIBRARY_PATH is rather "archaic" for the Mac OS X vs a directory of dylibs accessable directly from XCode.
    2) I set the XCode 2.2.1 Library search Path as:
    USER_HEADER_SEARCH_PATHS = /usr/local/oracle/sdk/include
    LIBRARY_SEARCH_PATHS = /usr/local/oracle/lib
    ==============
    So my questions are:
    1) How do I find the available APIs?
    I've looked at an on-line example but don't know what I'm doing.
    I saw some source-code demo on-line so I essentially cut/pasted the following code.
    The following is what I've done within the NSApp's Delegate method:
    #include "/usr/local/oracle/sdk/include/oci.h"
    static OCIEnv *p_env;
    static OCIError *p_err;
    static OCISvcCtx *p_svc;
    static OCIStmt *p_sql;
    static OCIDefine p_dfn    = (OCIDefine ) 0;
    static OCIBind p_bnd    = (OCIBind ) 0;
    int p_bvi;
    char p_sli[20];
    int rc;
    char errbuf[100];
    int errcode;
    @implementation AppDelegate
    - (id)init {
         self = [super init];
         if (self) {
              rc = OCIInitialize((ub4) OCI_DEFAULT, (dvoid *)0, // Initialize OCI
              (dvoid * (*)(dvoid *, size_t)) 0,
              (dvoid * (*)(dvoid *, dvoid *, size_t))0,
              (void (*)(dvoid *, dvoid *)) 0 );
              // Initialize environment
              rc = OCIEnvInit( (OCIEnv **) &p_env, OCI_DEFAULT, (size_t) 0, (dvoid **) 0 );
              // Initialize handles:
              rc = OCIHandleAlloc( (dvoid *) p_env, (dvoid **) &p_err, OCI_HTYPE_ERROR,
                             (size_t) 0, (dvoid **) 0);
              rc = OCIHandleAlloc( (dvoid *) p_env, (dvoid **) &p_svc, OCI_HTYPE_SVCCTX,
                             (size_t) 0, (dvoid **) 0);
         NSLog(@"{Appdelegate} Init.");
         return self;
    } // end init().
    ==============
    What I get is:
    test has exited due to signal 6 (SIGABRT).

  • No Instant Client 10.2 for Mac PPC?

    I'll skip the rant about there not being an Oracle Instant Client for Intel Mac since that appears to have been covered in a previous thread.
    But where's the 10.2 instant client for PPC Macs? All other platforms (at least the ones I care about) have 10.2 but Mac is stuck at 10.1. When I link against the 10.1 library, I get the following unresolved externals:
    __ZTIN6oracle4occi12SQLExceptionE
    __ZTIN6oracle4occi7PObjectE
    Please tell me there's a 10.2 available for Mac, even if it's only PPC. Maybe somebody just forgot to update the links on the download site?

    hi there. i've got (almost) the same problem on my mac ppc (darwin kernel version 8.10.0) with g++ 4.0.0, but i only have an unresolved __ZTIN6oracle4occi12SQLExceptionE.
    there is a workaround for the SQLException problem. as SQLException extends std::exception you can use
    try {
    catch(std::exception& exception) {
    int oraCode(exception.getErrorCode());
    std::string oraMessage(exception.getMessage());
    // do whatever you like with oraCode and oraMessage
    instead of
    try {
    catch(oracle::occi::SQLException& exception) {
    int oraCode(exception.getErrorCode());
    std::string oraMessage(exception.getMessage());
    // do whatever you like with oraCode and oraMessage
    throughout your code, which will not require
    __ZTIN6oracle4occi12SQLExceptionE to be resolved (or generated).
    as i mentioned before, i haven't come across the PObject problem. what compiler are you using (i suppose g++ 4.0.0)? what are your compiler and linker flags?
    best wishes from hamburg, matt

  • Mac OS X Instant Client

    Greetings,
    I did a search of the forum and the Instant Client site but couldn't find any information regarding Mac OS X. With the announcement of 10g for OS X are there any plans to release an Instant Client as well? If so, does anyone have an idea of when that might be?

  • Universal Mac OSX Instant Client WHEN?!?!

    Can't do all kinds of great wonderful things on my new MacBook Pro because the current G4 libraries in Instant Client won't link with Universal libraries. This means that I'm forced to ssh into a Linux box to do my work. It defeats the purpose of the having this wonderful laptop.
    So when can we get Universal versions of Instant Client?

    Hello Harri99,
    In order to make sure all traces of the Beta version are gone, please proceed to uninstall as follows:
    -Remove Freedome from /Applications.
    - Delete the folders "/Library/Application Support/F-Secure/FSFreedome" and "~/Library/Application Support/F-Secure/FSFreedome"
    -Remove "Your F-Secure Freedome Key" from your login keychain (it's in Passwords category).
    -Reinstall the latest version available here.

    Hi,
    Is there anyway Oracle 11g can be installed on MAC OS X Mountain Lion? without using a VM / VirtualBox that is.

    Hi,
    Are you talking client or server?
    Are you even talking database technology?
    - 11g is just a marketing name
    Did you try googling for Oracle on MAC?

  • I have a 2nd gen Mac book air with Lion. The hard disk has filled up even though i keep my data , music etc on hard drive . I used disk inspector to find where problem was and it is 20GB in the hidden files under the user directory can i resolve this ?

    I have a 2nd Gen MAc book Air with Lion .  The 60GB hard disc has quickly filled up despite me keeping most of my data on a portable hard drive .  I used disk inspector to locate the problem but found that it was was in 20 GB of hidden files in my user directory .  Is this correct and is there anything i can do about it ? Using disk inspector you can not see individual hudden diretories or files. I did unhide them but there is a mass of diretories etc and so no way i could see if this is one or multiple files using the space. Library System and  Applications are at 4 3 and 3 GB respectvely.  The data I actually keep on there is 9GB    Thanks for any help

    I think the problem is Quick Time Player. I am using OS 10.6.8 by the way.
    I tried it out again.
    I had about 26 GB of space before I played an .avi video.
    After the movie started to play (it was slow to load), I got a warning message that my startup disk was full. I opened Disk Utility and it told me I had no space left (about 20 MB or something like that was left).
    I watched to the end of the movie.
    Then I quit Quicktime Player.
    And I shut down the computer.
    I turned on the computer and checked Disk Utility. I have about 26 GB of space.
    I think for some reason Quicktime Player uses up a lot of the disk space when it runs movies that are problematic. This movie I was watching did not open with vlc.
    I normally use vlc to watch movies.
    Probably it doesn't use up this much space when the movie is OK.
    I think there's a problem with this particular movie. It is about 50 MB so it's not that big a file. I watch .smi subtitles with it. The Quicktime Player automatically loads the subtitle file in this case because the subtitle file has the same name as the movie file.
    I watched about 10 movie files from the same series that I downloaded together and did not have any problem watching them. I watched them on vlc. But this latest movie had problems I think (as I repeat). It did not load on vlc even though I waited for a minute, and normally movies load instantly on vlc.
    So I think that movie file caused problems. It made QT player use up a lot of hard disk space.
    I had better avoid watching that movie in the future. I don't want it to wreck my hard drive.
    So to sum up, everything is back to normal. I have the hard disk space that I should have. However, I am scared of damaging my hard drive due to shonky movie files that eat up all the space when they are played using QT player, and so I will not watch those files in the future, as I do not know why the files do that.

  • Host-based OpenLDAP Authentication On Mac OS X Mountain Lion

    Hello All,
    I'm sorry if this is the wrong group to post such a question, or if this has been already answered.
    I have openldap (slapd version 2.4.31-1+nmu2ubuntu8) running on Ubuntu Server 14.04. The 'hostObject' objectClass is added in the OpenLDAP directory. The 'host' attribute is added under all ldap users, which allows users to access just those particular hosts. Apple schema has been added as well.
    I have a ubuntu client that authenticates users against the ldap server. The ubuntu client is configured to perform host-based authentication via pam modules. Only users that have access to the Ubuntu client can login, and others are denied access. I also have a Mac OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.5) client that authenticates users against the same openldap server. All network users can login through the login window. I would like to restrict access to the Mountain Lion client based on hosts, as I've it on the Ubuntu client.
    I tried to search for documentation on this, but didn't find any good one. Most of the documentation suggest that network user access be controlled on the Mountain Lion client. I'd really like to have that control on ldap server and not on client. Also, restricting network user access using 'Users & Groups' settings in System Preferences fails. All ldap users are blocked from login.
    I have successfully tested host-based authentication on a Ubuntu Server 10.04 client that is connected to the same ldap server. So, I know host based authentication works. I would really appreciate if anyone could shed some light on this, or point me to a document that talks about host-based authentication on Mac OS X Mountain Lion client.
    Thanks,
    Amit

  • Can someone explain what is the Database Instant Client

    Download 10.2.0.4 Database Instant Client for Apple Mac OS X on Intel x86
    What does the Database Instant Client contain?
    What functionality does it have?
    Does it include a 'lite' version of the database to run locally? Or is it only a set of tools that can connect to a remote (on another machine) database?

    It is only a client for connecting to databases. It is easier to install than the full client.
    It does not include a database. Check the following link :-
