When I attempt to set the NLS_LANG at the SQLPLUS prompt, I get the following error message: SP2-0158: unknown SET option "NLS_DATE"
What am I doing wrong, did I miss something?
NLS_LANG can only be set at OS level: as env. var. in UNIX/Windows and as registry setting in Windows.
See OTN NLS_LANG FAQ http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/database/globalization/nls-lang-099431.html.
For example in Windows 7 if I want French settings and keep same character set:
set NLS_LANG=FRENCH_FRANCE.Edited by: P. Forstmann on 2 févr. 2013 20:42

  • Java Mail throws Connect failed error in Oracle 11g Enterprise  Edition

    Hi,
    I am using Oracle 11g Enterprise edition.I have a java class which is used for reading outlook 2010 inbox and download attachments from mails .For Connecting to OutLook from oracle i am using "POP3S" protocol in my java class. Which is working fine until my database is oracle-11g standard edition. Last week we are upgraded our database from oracle 11g standard edition to oracle 11g enterprise edition after that i can't connect to mail server through my java class which throws an error as follows.

    Is Oracle Enterprise Edition supports "POP3S" protocol?, Or Enterprise edition needs any additional configuration for establishing outlook connection with "pop3s" ?.
    Any help is appreciated

    I suspect root cause is with Java not Oracle.
    Oracle RDBMS does NOT speak any "protocol" except SQL natively.

  • "In-Memory Database Cache" option for Oracle 10g Enterprise Edition

    Hi,
    In one of our applications, we are using TimesTen 5.1.24 and Oracle 9i
    databases (platform - Solaris 9i).
    TimesTen holds application information which needs to be accessed quickly
    and Oracle 9i is a master application database.
    Now we are looking at an option of migrating from Oracle 9i to Oracle 10g
    database. While exploring about Oracle 10g features, came to know about
    "In-Memory Database Cache" option for Oracle Enterprise Edition. This made
    me to think about using Oracle 10g Enterprise Edition with "In-Memory
    Database Cache" option for our application.
    Following are the advantages that I could visualize by adopting the
    above-mentioned approach:
    1. Data reconciliation between Oracle and TimesTen is not required (i.e.
    data can be maintained only in Oracle tables and for caching "In-Memory
    Database Cache" can be used)
    2. Data maintenance is easy and gives one view access to data
    I have following queries regarding the above-mentioned solution:
    1. What is the difference between "TimesTen In-Memory Database" and
    "In-Memory Database Cache" in terms of features and licensing model?
    2. Is "In-Memory Database Cache" option integrated with Oracle 10g
    installable or a separate installable (i.e. TimesTen installable with only
    cache feature)?
    3. Is "In-Memory Database Cache" option same as that of "TimesTen Cache
    Connect to Oracle" option in TimesTen In-Memory Database?
    4. After integrating "In-Memory Database Cache" option with Oracle 10g, data
    access will happen only through Oracle sqlplus or OCI calls. Am I right here
    in making this statement?
    5. Is it possible to cache the result set of a join query in "In-Memory
    Database Cache"?
    In "Options and Packs" chapter in Oracle documentation
    (http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/license.102/b14199/options.htm
    #CIHJJBGA), I encountered the following statement:
    "For the purposes of licensing Oracle In-Memory Database Cache, only the
    processors on which the TimesTen In-Memory Database component of the
    In-Memory Database Cache software is installed and/or running are counted
    for the purpose of determining the number of licenses required."
    We have servers with the following configuration. Is there a way to get the
    count of processors on which the Cache software could be installed and/or
    running? Please assist.
    Production box with 12 core 2 duo processors (24 cores)
    Pre-production box with 8 core 2 duo processors (16 cores)
    Development and test box with 2 single chip processors
    Development and test box with 4 single chip processors
    Development and test box with 6 single chip processors
    Thanks & Regards,
    Vijay

    Hi Vijay,
    regarding your questions:
    1. What is the difference between "TimesTen In-Memory Database" and
    "In-Memory Database Cache" in terms of features and licensing model?
    ==> Product has just been renamed and integrated better with the Oracle database - Times-Ten == In-Memory-Cache-Database
    2. Is "In-Memory Database Cache" option integrated with Oracle 10g
    installable or a separate installable (i.e. TimesTen installable with only
    cache feature)?
    ==> Seperate Installation
    3. Is "In-Memory Database Cache" option same as that of "TimesTen Cache
    Connect to Oracle" option in TimesTen In-Memory Database?
    ==> Please have a look here: http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/timesten/quickstart/cc_qs_index.html
    This explains the differences.
    4. After integrating "In-Memory Database Cache" option with Oracle 10g, data
    access will happen only through Oracle sqlplus or OCI calls. Am I right here
    in making this statement?
    ==> Please see above mentioned papers
    5. Is it possible to cache the result set of a join query in "In-Memory
    Database Cache"?
    ==> Again ... ;-)
    Kind regards

  • How to find a datasheet for Oracle Database Enterprise Edition

    Hi all
    Can you please send me a link where to find datasheet for Oracle Database Enterprise Edition, because when i navigate on www.oracle.com or www.otn.oracle.com or partners.oracle.com the only product which I can not find the Brochures and Datasheets link is ODBEE.
    If it is possible you can send me even the pdf document.
    Thank you and best regards

    Can you explain exactly what information you're looking for? There are many, many different things that could be called "data sheets". What information, specifically, are you trying to find about the enterprise edition database?
    Potentially, you are looking for the Oracle Database 11g Product Family which compares the features available in the various editions of the 11g database. Perhaps you want some other data sheet. If you can help us by telling us exactly what information you're trying to find, we can probably help you find it.

  • Oracle ILM Assistant 1.4 Installation for Oracle 11g Express Edition

    Can we use Oracle ILM Assistant 1.4 with Oracle 11g Express Edition?
    I installed ILM Assistant with Oracle 11g Express Edition along with default APEX in my laptop. Oracle SQLPlus connect and Application Express working fine. But facing problem is connecting ILM Assistant.
    I used below commands to install ILM Assistant
    sqlplus /nolog
    Connect SYS as SYSDBA
    Password: oracle
    @ilma_install oracle ILM_ASSISTANT NONE
    granted all access rights to user
    @ilma_post_install
    I restarted by computer once installation completes.
    When I use http://localhost:8080/pls/apex/f?p=737677 address in IE to connect ILM Assistant it ask for XDB server username and password. When I provide default password IE giving 404 Not Found error.
    Just wondering if I am missing something or issue is some thing else.

    Hermann, thanks for your support.
    Answer: please use username in Capital Letters
    e.g.

  • Issue in executing contains Query(Oracle 11g Enterprise E on Linux RHEL 4

    Oracle Version: 11.1.0.6.0
    We are facing problem in executing contains Query :
    1.When length of string inside contains clause goes beyond 4000 it gives error ORA-01704: string literal too long
    2.We try to modify query by breaking it into multiple contains clause but it was not giving good performance (performance degrades as number of contains clauses increases.)It seems accessing same index multiple times becoming costly and taking more time. (We can see same domain Index has been accessed 3 times for 3 contains clause ()
    3.We used multiple varchar(4000) type bind variable in single contains clause but giving error
         ORA-29902: error in executing ODCIIndexStart() routine
         ORA-01489: result of string concatenation is too long
    4.We used bind variable of type clob but giving error
    Error:
    ORA-29902: error in executing ODCIIndexStart() routine
         ORA-20000: Oracle Text error:
         DRG-50857: oracle error in drexrstart_clob
    I read from article
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/text/pdf/ot11g_new_features.pdf
    That we don’t need to modified query as we had to do with SDATA(as we are doing in above examples) and optimizer will realize that query can be satisfied by the text index and will “push down” the filtering of rows into the text index processor rather than doing table access for filtering on sdata column but when I tried to write that query it was doing table access to filter for filter by column.
    My Questions:
    a.     Is it possible as mentioned in above point(point number 5) that we don’t need to write SDATA query in contains clause and optimizer will use composite index automatically.
    b.     Is there any workaround for using string literal > 4000 char in contains clause.
    c.     Why performance degrades lineally when using multiple contains clause.
    d.     Can we use in clause in SDATA and write query like this:
    i.     SDATA(queryid in ( 'q1',’q2’))
    /* Table */
    create table ContentStore (ResourceID raw(16), QueryID VARCHAR2(38),IFID VARCHAR2(38),ISTimeStamp number,ISProtocolName VARCHAR2(100),ismimecontenttype varchar2(100),ISToBeDisplayed number(1),IndexedMetaText CLOB)
    /* Index */
    create index idxMeta on ContentStore (IndexedMetaText) indextype is ctxsys.context filter by queryid,IFID,istimestamp,isprotocolname,ismimecontenttype,resourceid,istobedisplayed order by istimestamp desc parameters('filter ctxsys.null_filter section group GRP_system2 sync(every "sysdate+1/(24*4)" MEMORY 209715200 PARALLEL 2) storage my_text_storage memory 209715200')parallel 2
    /* GRP_system2*/
    begin
    ctx_ddl.create_section_group('GRP_system2', 'BASIC_SECTION_GROUP');
    ctx_ddl.add_field_section('GRP_system2', 'FILENAME', 'FILENAME');
    ctx_ddl.add_field_section('GRP_system2', 'ISIPSrcIP', 'ISIPSrcIP');
    ctx_ddl.add_field_section('GRP_system2', 'ISProxyUserIP', 'ISProxyUserIP');
    ctx_ddl.add_field_section('GRP_system2', 'isipdestip', 'isipdestip');
    end;
    /* 1.When length of string inside contains clause goes beyond 4000 it gives
         error ORA-01704: string literal too long */
    select indexedmetatext from ContentStore where rowid in ( select oraclerowid from ( select rowid as oraclerowid from ContentStore where contains(indexedmetatext,'((68.142.91.152 within isipsrcip) or (68.142.91.152 within isproxyuserip) or (68.142.91.152 within isipdestip)) and ((sdata(queryid = ''a51f216a-b211-4b59-89d4-6fcce58a8517'')) or (sdata(queryid = ''c7d7fdb3-e532-42f1-a8b4-450771fc763f'')) or (sdata(queryid = ''7746f95a-01ba-4318-991a-35c2a8a0c73d'')) or (sdata(queryid = ''b0d339d2-ada9-485b-b752-79920a589340'')) or (sdata(queryid = ''33083cc8-7ed0-4a67-81f0-de1f3d673db2'')) or (sdata(queryid = ''0475dea9-288b-4be6-815e-751c98c25f2b'')) or (sdata(queryid = ''8cfb62f4-2bac-4da6-a2c2-84e409f5a810'')) or (sdata(queryid = ''afbf17a7-4170-45f4-9b66-de3860de93d7'')) or (sdata(queryid = ''750a7b1c-db61-4f87-b78f-505bc73aa5df'')) or (sdata(queryid = ''debc06f3-51a8-4278-9d38-f316dfb6340c'')) or (sdata(queryid = ''d2d8d8a8-b691-439f-b6de-618825aad152'')) or (sdata(queryid = ''f6a3515a-4c7b-48d0-8d46-f62541525cd0'')) or (sdata(queryid = ''bef5c527-5e78-494f-832c-12b3967f22cc'')) or (sdata(queryid = ''638a4029-c4bf-42ef-87bc-2cd4a3977dd1'')) or (sdata(queryid = ''1ce38c22-fd80-4d0f-b9ab-1a09941c5809'')) or (sdata(queryid = ''7bbbcc66-f19d-4758-bdd8-2796da1e26fe'')) or (sdata(queryid = ''d3e96050-ab5e-48b7-9445-d884167c8ae9'')) or (sdata(queryid = ''eaf93ce1-fbd8-4bb6-9fb1-12c337878c72'')) or (sdata(queryid = ''ef1ce7ce-9b4a-4f10-9c91-7256f513c709'')) or (sdata(queryid = ''46bf5cda-ada3-41f2-92b0-174ac29c5808'')) or (sdata(queryid = ''59136e92-147f-41c4-ac75-79d921268714'')) or (sdata(queryid = ''fb2382b2-6496-4c9f-a427-2f6db3b9fd16'')) or (sdata(queryid = ''531b3790-ed50-4b83-a0d0-eabfed2b6701'')) or (sdata(queryid = ''4908b148-2432-4041-947c-31ff8e10646c'')) or (sdata(queryid = ''82007d26-d526-42c9-a8d0-5b75e7f08b90'')) or (sdata(queryid = ''002735e8-6886-4bb4-a732-8a9d04165837'')) or (sdata(queryid = ''43f25cba-1d90-4cc2-84d1-a8719c5b1c9f'')) or (sdata(queryid = ''99d9027f-948b-4bc7-9a44-3092d6b29580'')) or (sdata(queryid = ''24221285-ea64-4e14-8c08-a173ec1b7fd9'')) or (sdata(queryid = ''47ad81d7-75cb-4787-91ab-c2bc5c5e1aaa'')) or (sdata(queryid = ''4ff2846f-6d70-4f9b-a5bf-317263c0ccc5'')) or (sdata(queryid = ''c1f5fbe7-72d1-499d-8d72-4aa21a79c97e'')) or (sdata(queryid = ''356f12c5-a769-478d-b57b-8a063be8ee8e'')) or (sdata(queryid = ''f6181853-2e16-4bce-88c0-6602bc853935'')) or (sdata(queryid = ''890f80e9-f3dd-4862-a55c-4f76569df360'')) or (sdata(queryid = ''5e9df138-8377-4841-92de-49bf6ed378a5'')) or (sdata(queryid = ''600b4dfd-e379-4754-8d06-873b593dbd14'')) or (sdata(queryid = ''af1476ac-3742-4272-bc97-584b1bbe3e2b'')) or (sdata(queryid = ''c2eb4e4c-2d09-4be8-b6ba-f1440349ed5a'')) or (sdata(queryid = ''2b819cdb-0941-48fd-8b93-dd1f661933b3'')) or (sdata(queryid = ''dfa094c9-c48c-4ca1-ad06-ead4f1a9d146'')) or (sdata(queryid = ''b1222061-acaf-4e85-80e1-00af07df962c'')) or (sdata(queryid = ''219b0c7b-266e-455b-b7ca-4f760976253c'')) or (sdata(queryid = ''2396f1e3-28f8-451b-a114-29390cec0cf3'')) or (sdata(queryid = ''c7d7fdb3-e532-42f1-a8b4-450771fc763f'')) or (sdata(queryid = ''7746f95a-01ba-4318-991a-35c2a8a0c73d'')) or (sdata(queryid = ''b0d339d2-ada9-485b-b752-79920a589340'')) or (sdata(queryid = ''33083cc8-7ed0-4a67-81f0-de1f3d673db2'')) or (sdata(queryid = ''0475dea9-288b-4be6-815e-751c98c25f2b'')) or (sdata(queryid = ''8cfb62f4-2bac-4da6-a2c2-84e409f5a810'')) or (sdata(queryid = ''afbf17a7-4170-45f4-9b66-de3860de93d7'')) or (sdata(queryid = ''750a7b1c-db61-4f87-b78f-505bc73aa5df'')) or (sdata(queryid = ''debc06f3-51a8-4278-9d38-f316dfb6340c'')) or (sdata(queryid = ''d2d8d8a8-b691-439f-b6de-618825aad152'')) or (sdata(queryid = ''f6a3515a-4c7b-48d0-8d46-f62541525cd0'')) or (sdata(queryid = ''bef5c527-5e78-494f-832c-12b3967f22cc'')) or (sdata(queryid = ''638a4029-c4bf-42ef-87bc-2cd4a3977dd1'')) or (sdata(queryid = ''1ce38c22-fd80-4d0f-b9ab-1a09941c5809'')) or (sdata(queryid = ''7bbbcc66-f19d-4758-bdd8-2796da1e26fe'')) or (sdata(queryid = ''d3e96050-ab5e-48b7-9445-d884167c8ae9'')) or (sdata(queryid = ''eaf93ce1-fbd8-4bb6-9fb1-12c337878c72'')) or (sdata(queryid = ''ef1ce7ce-9b4a-4f10-9c91-7256f513c709'')) or (sdata(queryid = ''46bf5cda-ada3-41f2-92b0-174ac29c5808'')) or (sdata(queryid = ''59136e92-147f-41c4-ac75-79d921268714'')) or (sdata(queryid = ''fb2382b2-6496-4c9f-a427-2f6db3b9fd16'')) or (sdata(queryid = ''531b3790-ed50-4b83-a0d0-eabfed2b6701'')) or (sdata(queryid = ''2396f1e3-28f8-451b-a114-29390cec0cf3''))) and (sdata(istobedisplayed = 1)) and (sdata(istimestamp >= 1245283200)) and (sdata(istimestamp < 1245369600)) and ((sdata(IFID = ''1eeb7036-cd84-4e4d-be90-e720c7db4470'')))') > 0

    /* 5.I read from article
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/text/pdf/ot11g_new_features.pdf
    That we don’t need to modified query as we had to do with SDATA(as we are doing in above examples) and optimizer will realize that query can be satisfied by the text index and will “push down” the filtering of rows into the text index processor rather than doing table access for filtering on sdata column but when I tried to write that query it was doing table access to filter for filter by column.
    /* 6.My Questions:
    */

    SQE is really breakthrough for me but I dont know why it is not working in my case.I tried it onOracle 11g installaion with window and Linux both but did not get success.
    Please suggest me what I need to check when Installing if it is installation problem?

  • Does Oracle 11g Express Edition 11.2.0.0 support the impdp utility ?

    Hi,
    We are trying to import an Oracle dump within a Express Edition, without success. We got the error message: ORA-39213: Metadata processing is not available.
    A) Source data base: Oracle Database 11g Enterprise Edition Release 11.1.0.7.0
    B) Target data base: Oracle Database 11g Express Edition Release 11.2.0.2.0
    Searching for solution led us to following forum entries:
    1. http://kmpdba.wordpress.com/2012/05/02/ora-39213-metadata-processing-is-not-available/ Cause: DBMS_METADATA_UTIL package does not successfully ran. Solution: to install (among others) SQL> @$ORACLE_HOME/javavm/install/initjvm.sql
    2. But: there is no @$ORACLE_HOME/javavm/install/initjvm.sql scrript -> http://www.oracle.com/us/products/database/enterprise-edition/comparisons/index.html -> Oracle 11g EX does not support java
    Questions:
    a) Does support Oracle 11g EX the impdp utility at all ?
    b) How would it be possible to import the above mentioned dump from (A) into (B) ?
    Thanks in advance,
    Michel

    Sounds like the messing xsl files issue here: Upgrade from XE10 to XE11
    Try
    execute sys.dbms_metadata_util.load_stylesheets;and see if you get the missing xsl files error.
    The XSL files are not distributed with Oracle 11g XE, but seems to be pre-loaded in the default database created by the installer. If you try to create your own database it wont have the stylesheets loaded and you'll need the xsl files to load them up.
    The quick solution will be to copy the 180 xsl files from an Oracle 11.2.0.2 Enterprise to your Oracle 11g installation ($ORACLE_HOME/rdbms/xml/xsl/) and load the stylesheets.

  • Loading jar files using loadjava - 11g Enterprise Edition 11.1.0.6.0-64bit

    Hi,
    We are trying to fetch data from a weblogic server using a JMS thin client.
    We have loaded our client code jar(application.jar) and the following thin client jars in oracle using loadjava.
    (Version:- Oracle Database 11g Enterprise Edition Release 11.1.0.6.0 - 64bit Production).
    1) wljmsclient.jar
    2) wlthint3client.jar
    3) wlclient.jar
    some of the classes remain in invalid state after loading the jar files. we validate them manually.
    When we run the client code we are getting following exception.
    ORA-29532: Java call terminated by uncaught Java exception: java.lang.InternalError: error initializing kernel caused by: java.lang.ExceptionInInitializerError

  • Oralce 11g enterprise edition

    error installing oracle 11g enterprise editon using server mode on my desk top also error with sql developer.
    [INS-20803] The optional tool named 'Oracle Configuration Manager Configuration' failed.

    Might get a better response in the installation forum {forum:id=64}
    But first, gathering more information- the actual error message, your OS (*nix? win7? 32bit? x64?) and the release/version- 11gR2? 11.2.0.1 or 11.2.0.2? without these pieces of information help will be impossible.
    Also a good place to start is the documentation. Yes, really. Here are the R2 install guides ... http://www.oracle.com/pls/db112/portal.portal_db?selected=11&frame=

  • How to take a backup manually in oracle 11g express edition?

    how to take a backup manually in oracle 11g express edition? i want to take backup of a database and want to restore later on on a different computer .

    Stop database, and copy all files to another machine.That sounds to me to be the closest answer to the question posted. And perhaps the easiest solution.
    Install XE on the "another machine", shut it down. Shutdown the source database. Copy the datafiles to the new host. Startup your "new" database, it will be an exact clone of the original.
    To find out what files need to be copied, as system (or sysdba) run:
    select name from v$datafile;
    ... file1, file2 ...
    show parameter control
    ... control_files ... file1 ...
    alter database backup controlfile to trace [reset logs];
    show parameter diag;
    ... diagnostic_dest ... <drive:>|/diag_pathTo do a proper database clone its better to recreate the controlfile and reset the archive sequence number- leave out the controlfile copy part. In the diag_path location find the trace file under diag/rdbms/$ORACLE_SID/<db_name>/trace it should be the latest ora*.trc file.
    The trace file has the commands to recreate the controlfile, which includes the datafiles and putting the tempfile back in place. If the datafiles are in a different location, i.e. in Windows going to a different drive, or you want do put datafiles in a different folder location, the create controlfile statement is the easiest time to get the file directories right.
    If you add the "reset logs" qualifier (don't use the brackets!) you'll get just the reset logs version of the create controlfile statement, otherwise you'll get both NORESETLOGS and RESETLOGS versions of a create controlfile statement, run one or the other. Not both. Not the entire trace file, just the create controlfile, alter database open [reset logs], alter tablespace temp add tempfile ... bits. No recovery is needed for a database that is shutdown when datafiles get copied to a new location/host.

  • Getting started with Oracle 11g express edition

    I am currently in a college class doin SQL. I have downloaded oracle 11g express edition. I'm trying to get started and when I try to create a new connection it takes me to a screen where I have to sign in. When I use my oracle sign in and pass word it tells me it doesn't recognize it. No I know it works because I can sign in on the web site. But it won't connect me or allow me to make a new connection. I really don't understand what is going on. I can seriously use some help. Something that will take me step by step on what I need to do. I have to create a data base and I'm not sure how to do it.
    Thank You
    Carl Gavin

    Hello Carl,
    Something that will take me step by step on what I need to do.Sounds like what you are searching for is the [url http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E17781_01/admin.112/e18585/toc.htm]Getting Started Guide.
    If you need some advanced knowlege, there would be the "2 Day DBA Guide", which, among other topics, contains a section on [url http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E17781_01/server.112/e18804/connecting.htm#CEGIFAHF]Connecting to the Database. I think you'll find all necessary information (background and step by step description) you need.
