Insufficient SQL database permissions for user 'Name: NT AUTHORITY\IUSR SID: S-1-5-17...
Hi,
I have a customized SharePoint page that takes user input data, validate some of the data, then writes the data to a SharePoint list. If an exception occurs, it will write the error to the ULS.
All was working well in the test environments.
However, recently we noticed that in the QA environment, when it's trying to write to ULS, it causes another issue:
Insufficient SQL database permissions for user 'Name: NT AUTHORITY\IUSR SID: S-1-5-17 ImpersonationLevel: Impersonation' in database 'SP_F1_Config' on SQL Server instance 'SQL01'. Additional error information from SQL Server is included below. The EXECUTE
permission was denied on the object 'proc_putObjectTVP', database 'SP_F1_Config', schema 'dbo'.
I've traced through the code and found that it fails on the line:
SPDiagnosticsServiceBase.GetLocal<LoggerError>();
where LoggerError is the logger class inheritng SPDiagnosticsServiceBase
I have also googled around today, but the most positive solution provided
on this page was to manually modify SQL object permission, which I believe we should not do, and would not be supported by Microsoft.
So the questions are:
Why is AUTHORITY\IUSER used for SPDiagnosticsServiceBase.GetLocal()? Should that account actually be allowed to access SharePoint databases? (This is an intranet environment and using claim based/Windows authentication, no no anonymous access would be allowed
anyway).
I've checked the Application Pool account permissions in SQL, comparing the environment that works and the one that doesn't work, and the permissions/roles/schemas look identical on server and database level. Where else can I check?
On the environment that works, I logged on as SharePoint administrator, created a new SharePoint Visual Web Part solution in Visual Studio, just to test writing to ULS. Then I press F5 in Visual Studio to debug it. It also has the same problem.
It just seems like somehow the user's identity (or whatever the identity SharePoint required) was not passed to SPDiagnosticsServiceBase.
Any suggestions, or even better, solutions would be really really much appreciated!
Hi,
Thanks for your sharing, it will be userful to the people who stuck with the same issue.

Dear all,
I am troubleshooting a critical error showed up on Event log. It said:
Insufficient sql database permissions for user 'Name:domain\wss_search ....... EXECUTE permission was denied on the object 'proc_GetTimerRunningJobs', database 'SharePoint_Config', schema 'dbo'
domain\wss_search is the default content access account. According to
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc678863.aspx I should not grant it the Farm Administrators permission.
In the Search Center I am able to search out documents as expected so I think the search service is fine. However I have no clue why this account is trying to access 'proc_GetTimerRunningJobs'.
MarkHi Mark,
This issue was caused by the search account’s permission. For resolving your issue, please do as the followings:
Expand your SharePoint Configuration database 'SharePoint_Config' and navigate to ‘proc_GetTimerRunningJobs’ under Programmability ->Stored Procedures
Right-click proc_GetTimerRunningJobs and choose Properties
Click on Permission on the left launch
Select the Search button and browse for ‘WSS_Content_Application_Pools’
Provide ‘Execute’ permissions for ‘WSS_Content_Application_Pools’
Click OK

Insuffiecient SQL database Permission for User
Hi All,
The following error is coming in the Event Viewer:
Insufficient SQL database permissions for user 'Name: NNOK\SPPEAPO_SVC001_ES SID: S-1-5-21-2610070952-2089559051-1579118431-1720 ImpersonationLevel: Impersonation' in database 'SharePoint_AdminContent_6fa0b459-ed7c-481f-85c4-b81753e39346' on SQL Server instance
'NOKWDCFISP'.
The EXECUTE permission was denied on the object 'proc_GetTimerRunningJobs', database 'SharePoint_Config', schema 'dbo'.
Kindly reply if you know the solution for this.
Thanks in Advance.
Pravin DhulapHi Pravin,
You can grant "WSS_Content_Application_Pools" execute permission to the procedure "proc_GetTimerRunningJobs"
under SharePoint _Config database, then check results again.
Here is another post you can take a look.

SQL database login for 'DB_Config' on instance 'DB\instance' failed. Additional error information from SQL Server is included below:
Login failed for user 'NT AUTHORITY\ANONYMOUS LOGON'.
I have been getting this error every hour on only 1 application server of the 2.
My farm consists of 2 app servers, 2 wfes & 2 sql nodes.
My public site is working fine. Authentication is NTLM.
SharePoint VSS Writer is disabled.None of my appPool accounts are running under local system.
I have read many forums/blogs, but couldnt find a solution for this.
Any help would be appreciated!Hi,
As I understand, you found event id 3351 in event log. Please collect more information as below:
Check if the error also occurs on other servers in your farm.
Check if backup job is scheduled at the time when the event id occurs.
Please run Config Wizard or psconfig.exe -cmd secureresources on all servers and test the issue again.

we formatted Database server and restored all the databases from the backup. but the sharepoint site is giving below error when i access the home page.
we have 3 application servers in that two are working fine, but only one server getting the below error.
SQL database login for 'SharePoint_Config_2010' on instance 'db server' failed. Additional error information from SQL Server is included below.
Login failed for user 'domain\user'.
could you help what is the issue?Hi,
According to your post, my understanding is that you failed to access sharepoint site with one application server.
It was due to the MOM/SCOM Agent that has a SharePoint management pack installed, the agents Windows Service runs as ‘Local System’ and thus causes this.
The workaround is to either kill the SCOM agent service, or set it to run as a dedicated service account.
In addtion, I recommend to add the logon account of the SharePoint Timer service as a user of the SharePoint_Config database. Give role membership to the account db_owner.
You also need to add the SharePoint accounts back into sql server.

Hi,
We are running a Mountain Lion Server with Open Directory / LDAPv3, as far as I can tell. My responsibility is to get my CentOS 6.3 box running Samba v. 3.5.10-125.el6 to authenticate users against the ML / OD box. I can ssh to the CentOS box OK and I can get Guest access to the Samba share to go OK too. Also, the OD passwords on the LDAP server are set to 'Open Directory' so I guess that means that they are encrypted and the Samba server is set to send encrypted passwords. But when a user tries to properly authenticate using either say via a Mac client Finder [Command-K], or smbclient, the Samba server will generate this message:
check_ntlm_password: Authentication for user ['name'] -> ['name'] FAILED with error NT_STATUS_LOGON_FAILURE
(I am blanking out the user name on purpose).
Of course there is more to the story, but those are the basics.
Here are the relevant parts of my smb.conf. FWIW, the CentOS / Samba box is called Jupiter.
Thank you,
NickZ

Uninstalling the "HP Tools" part of the driver cleared it up. The printer is an HP LJ1300. I had downloaded the full driver from HP.com. I don't know if any/all these conditions need to be matched, but: the printer was on the network using an HP print server JetDirect EX Plus, and the computer(s) in question were connecting directly to it (not via a print server). It's been too long ago, but there were always several errors in the System Log (Win XP Event Viewer) that correlated with the errors on the OS X server.
Proud to say that since that day (10+ months ago) I've not seen it happen again. whew. -
POP3 -Keep asking for user name & Password
Hi,
We have exchange 2003 server with Service pack 2. We have user who check their mails through Outlook 2003, Outlook web access & some users are using POP3 to download the messages.
Since last few weeks, we are getting the complained that when engineers are trying to configured users account in Outlook with POP3 configuration, its keep asking for user name & password. But with same user name & passwords user is able to check their mail through Outlook web access.
In some of our site, users are able to download messages through pop3 account but this account was configured long back.
Kindly advise.HI,
This is happening mainly when
1. user changed his password through Outlook web access next time its keep poping up for password & it will not accept the new passord.
2. if user is using OWA & when we try to configured his mail in Outlool with POP3 .
See if i remove exchange attributes from user's account & then delete the users from AD & Recreated with same user name, Password & reconnected to that user to his old mailbox, it;s work fine.
Regards,
Chetan
POP3 is enabled by default for all the users. -
Firefox asks for user name and password even though the proxy auto detection
After upgrading Firefox to ver. 6.01 and next to 6.02 Firefox asks for user name and password of proxy server even though proxy settings are set to Automatic detect proxy settings.
Sorry can't do anything more than offer support. We have been having this problem for months and support is clueless. Do you also have the migrating homepage issue? We can have 3 or 4 different homepage set-ups throughout the day. Between Verizon and FIOS, there isn't an employee in the corporation who cares about customer service. Since the failed email migrations dating back to Spring of 2011, we have had this login situation constantly. Our normal login count for a day is 12. We figure they are regulating traffic by having customers constantly login.

Mail account set up: Why no box for user name?
I am trying to set up my wife's Mail.app to use her Exchange account. When I did mine, the first pane asked for name, email address, user name, and password. It then automatically grabbed all the information and set the account up. Very slick.
For hers (on a different server), I don't get a box for user name. It's entirely possible that her server is configured differently and this won't work, but wouldn't Mail ask for a user name so that it could go look at the server?
Any suggestions?
TIADo you still have that original Exchange account? If so, that'll be the problem. You can only have ONE Exchange account on any single device and so Mail simply doesn't offer the option if one already exists.
This is a fundamental limitation of Microsoft's Exchange/Active Sync technology and not Apple's fault at all. Windows Mobile devices are similarly restricted and many users are deeply frustrated and unhappy about this, but there's nothing anyone can do. -

Have you verified the permissions in your SQL Server instance for the local System account (I'm assuming at this point that it is local to the site server)?

PL/SQL Function to check user name and password
Hi,
I am new to PL/SQL. I have a table that stores user name and password. I want to write a PL/SQL function that checks if the entered user name and password is correct, by validation against the values in the table... Can someone help me with the code? Both user name and password is varchar2First of all, I believe you mean a procedure that would check the application username and password. Fot, if you mean a PL/SQL procedure, that runs in the database, and that means it has to be executed after the client application is connected to the database.
Maybe you need a procedure like this:
procedure check_pass(p_user varchar2, p_pass varchar2) is
pragma autonomous_transaction;
v_passwd varchar2(200);
begin
select passwd into v_passwd
from password_table
where user_name=p_user;
if v_passwd!=p_pass then
update password_table set
last_unsucc_logon=sysdate
,unsucc_logon_n=nvl(unsucc_logon_n,0)+1
where user_name=p_user;
commit;
raise_application_error(-20101,'Invalid username/password!');
end if;
exception
when no_data_found then
raise_application_error(-20101,'Invalid username/password!');
end;
Study this piece of code and see if this will do. -
After changing 'MS SQL server' service's user name SDAC doesn't work properly
I've changed 'MS SQL Server' service user name
from .\admin (have had such already) to network_services
and now my oracle linked servers to Oracle instance stopped to work.
Namely, 'Cannot create an instance of OLE DB provider "OraOLEDB.Oracle" for linked server Ora_RO'.
In event log i see next:
The machine-default permission settings do not grant Local Activation permission for the COM Server application with CLSID
{2206CDB0-19C1-11D1-89E0-00C04FD7A829}
and APPID
{2206CDB0-19C1-11D1-89E0-00C04FD7A829}
to the user NT AUTHORITY\NETWORK SERVICE SID (S-1-5-20) from address LocalHost (Using LRPC). This security permission can be modified using the Component Services administrative tool.
So, MSDAINITIALIZE Class fails to start. I cannot locate this service under dcomcnfg. Could you help me?The error seems to be clear what is causing the issue, check this link to fix this issue
Here the scenario is with SharePoint instead oracle so you can make out:-

Should I monitor the SQL Server tempdb for user activity?
I am currently auditing all databases on SQL Server 2008 R2 for specific events ( database accounts related activity) . I get alot of events generated for
tempdb. I am monitoring the following events 47, 102, 103, 104, 105, 108, 109, 110, 111, 113, 117, 130, 170, 171, 173, 176 is what I am monitoring.
Do I need to monitor tempdb or is it alright to exclude the
tempdb?
Thanks in advance.What is your tempdb configuration? Is it located on separated physical drives? Are you observing bottleneck on tempdb?
--user sessions that are
--allocating internal objects, including currently active tasks
SELECT
t1.session_id,
(t1.internal_objects_alloc_page_count + task_alloc) as allocated,
(t1.internal_objects_dealloc_page_count + task_dealloc) as
deallocated
from sys.dm_db_session_space_usage as t1,
(select session_id,
sum(internal_objects_alloc_page_count)
as task_alloc,
sum (internal_objects_dealloc_page_count) as
task_dealloc
from sys.dm_db_task_space_usage group by session_id) as t2
where t1.session_id = t2.session_id and t1.session_id >50
order by allocated DESC
the allocation bottleneck is caused
when allocation structures are accessed
by concurrent threads in conflicting modes.
Since the database id of TempDB is 2,
the search argument ‘2.%’ represents any page
in TempDB across any file. If this page happens
to be GAM, SGAM or PFS, it will represent allocation bottleneck.
Note, in a concurrent application, some blocking is expected so
you will need to baseline the allocation waits when your
application is performing normally.
Only when the waits exceed the baseline significantly,
it signals that you are incurring allocation bottleneck.
select session_id, wait_duration_ms, resource_description
from sys.dm_os_waiting_tasks
where wait_type like 'PAGE%LATCH_%' and
resource_description like '2:%'

Javascript & JSP - prompt for user name
I want to prompt the user for their name at the beginning.
Then I want to save that value in the JSP session because eventually it will be saved along with a bunch of other information into a database table.
How can I get the JSP session attribute to save the user's input from a Javascript prompt?Oh, so
the javascript part
name = prompt('USERNAME',' ');
Can't interact with JSP
<%
String user =
session.setAttribute("userName", user);
%>
That's what I want to know how does the
user = name
So I guess maybe a regular form would be better for what i need? -
Correct permissions for user home folders?
I recently installed a new Mac Mini with Server 10.10.2
I have about 10 clients running off the server (an open directory master), they are setup as local network users and have home folders on the server.
I had to copy contents of the home folders from a previous (crashed) server and I can't seem to get the permissions right.
A couple of the users use home directory syncing, so they have a local copy of their home folder on the computer they usually use, but changes aren't getting synced across the network to the server. An example is the dock, I keep removing and replacing icons in the dock, but logging out and logging back in returns the dock to its old configuration (presumably bringing the old config back from the server).
Is there a tool which resets user directory permissions for network home folders? Or can someone give me any guidance how to sort this out?
Thanks
JamesIn the sidebar of the Server.app window, select the icon at the top with the name of the server. Then select the Storage tab in the main window pane.
Navigate to the folder in question and select it. From the popup menu at the bottom with a gear icon, select
Edit Permissions...
Verify that the permissions are what they should be, and make changes if necessary. Then, from the same menu, select
Propagate Permissions...
Check all applicable boxes, including Access Control List. If in doubt, check all boxes. Click OK.
