Integrating a Java web application into the SAP NetWeaver Portal

Hello experts,
We have a requirement to integrate a Java based web application into the SAP NetWeaver Portal using iView/iFrame technology. The Java based web application is completely independent from the SAP environment but should be displayed as part of the SAP Portal environment. The other requirement is the main navigation menu for the Java based web application should be configured and provided in the SAP Portal.
Any pointers on how exactly this can be done would be of great help.
Also how can the SSO (Single-Sign-On) to the Java application be implemented so that the user can logon to the java application through the portal without providing the user credentials again.
Thanks in advance.

Hi,
I think you can use URL iviews to integrate your java web application with EP. you have the option of doing SSO with the application as well.
Have a look at the sap help material

    Hi
If you have zip file of the project then unzip it into your project  location where all projects are there .then in NWDS go to file->import->multiple existing project into workspace->browse the file where you have saved it and select the comp folder inside the project folder->click finish. Now you are able to see the webdynpro project in the webdynpro explorer. If its not appearing then go to Navigatore and right click on project and click on open project, it will open the project in webDynpro explorer.

In your deploy message it says that it can't initialize your servlet because it is missing a java class from the logging framework that is used by hibernate. It might also be possible that that logging framework ([SL4J|http://www.slf4j.org/]) is configured to use a logger that is not available in your Netweaver 7.3 installation. Maybe check the documentation of sl4j for details. There is also a [document|http://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/scn/index?rid=/library/uuid/bf0d57db-0c01-0010-6fa3-83503981eed4] about Hibernate on Netweaver but that was back when Hibernate did not use sl4j. Probably you just need to add the sl4j library to your libs.

  • SAP Business One in SAP NetWeaver Portal?

    Hi,
We have a customer that will implement SAP Business One for their backoffice.
They want a package solution for their internet and extranet (clients and suppliers). The extranet will access SAP Business One.
We are considering to implement SAP NetWeaver Portal for the extranet.
Do you think this is possible? What about SSO?
    Tahnk you all,
    Olivier Marques.

    Olivier,
I am not sure about the SAP NetWeaver Portal.  You may want to ask that question in the NetWeaver Discussion Forum.
With respect to the SAP Business One Integration for SAP NetWeaver product ... this technology is not providing a portal in which to access SAP Business One from a web interface.  The SAP Business One Integration for SAP NetWeaver is a technology that seamlessly integrates SAP Business One with mySAP with respect to the integration of transactions and master data flow between the two systems from a headquarters/subsidiary(s) standpoint.

  • Unable to Launch Integration Builder: Java Web Start problem

    Hi,
I am unable to launch the integration builder. I am using JDK 1.4.2_05. The java Web Start gives the following error:
Unsigned application requesting unrestricted access to system
    Unsigned resource: http://<XIHostName>:50000/rep/repository/aii_util_rb.jar
I have tried deleting the Java web start cache, and even reinstalling the JDK.
Can someone suggest a workaround this problem ?
    thanks,
    Manish

The Java Web Start cannot accept unsigned jars. If the jars are signed, it will ask in a dialog box if it should allow unrestricted access to this jar.
In my case, I upgraded XI SP0 to SP4, which included updating the Adapter Core, Adapter Framework, and the XI TOOLS to SP4.
On launching the Web start, it seemed that the jars were not getting signed. JWS cannot allow unsigned jars to the client.
    These jars are maintained in:
    \usr\sap\<SID>\SYS\global\xi\directory_server\javaws\directory
I am having problems with my XI upgrade to SP4, and it is probably not signing the jars.
Do you know why this may be happening ...
    thanks,
    Manish

    Hi:
I am new to SAP Java programming.
I am developing a java web application on SAP NW SP16.
I need to call a rfc and process the data to be displayed on a jsp page.
    I have few questions...
    1) Can I use the JCO destination created in thru wed dynpro content administrator, to connect to sap and execute the rfc/bapi?
    2) How would I create and access the model (rfc)?
    3) Are the required jar and dll(rfc32.dll ... ) files available on the server?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • Using a VB Class from a Java Web Application

    Hi,
I need to instance a VB class, and then to invoke their methods, from a java web apllication. The code is:
    Set object = CreateObject("AS2.OBJECTS")
    If object.PutName(sCadenaError, sEntidad) Then
    Array1 = object.getData(sCadenaError, iEntorno, False)
    End if
"AS2" is the VB dll library. "OBJECTS" is the class to instance. And "PutName" and "getData" are the methods that the web application has to call.
Can I instance the class from Java, and use the methods with the same data types? What steps have I to do in JNI?
    Thanks in advance,
    Mary

You are right, I guess my question is a good candidate for RTFM!
I should have searched also on help.ondemand.com
I just looked into SDN and ui5 sdk help.
    Thanks for your help

  • Installing IPC 4.0 Web Applications on the NW 2004s WAS

    Hi experts,
I am running the IPC 4.0 server and the SAP Netweaver 2004s Java Trial Version on my computer. Now I would like to install the IPC 4.0 Web Applications on my computer. Document IPC40WebAppInstV119.pdf from the service market place describes the procedure but only with respect to the SAP J2EE Engine 6.20.
It would be great if you could help me with any of these questions:
    1) Would it be a problem to install the IPC 4.0 Web Applications on a SAP J2EE Engine 6.40 instead of 6.20?
    2) Would I still have to install SAPJBASIS.SCA and SAPCRMIPC.SCA as described on pages 30ff of the installation guide? Or is one or both of these archives already delivered with the SAP J2EE Engine 6.40?
Thank you very much for your help. Points will be awarded!
    Regards,
    Jens

Ok, first 2004s uses J2EE engine 7.0 and not 6.40.
In theory you have to use the whole NWDI system to do deploy things to 2004s.
I doubt that IPC4 would even work on 6.40 (not sure, just assuming), what is the backend ? with CRM if definitely would not work, as IPC in CRM5 is a complete rewrite and works totally differently that in previous versions (IPC does not run in the webas anymore but on the crm box instead (partly java).
You most likely can't install IPC4 through NWDI (cause it's older), yet you need NWDI to deploy to 2004s (though i managed to do it without NWDI if you are interested).

  • Business Objects Enterprise 4.0 java web applications support

    Hello experts,
We are in the process of migrating our BOEXI R2 installation to BOE 4.0. To host BOE java web applications , we are targetting our SAP NW CE 7.2 installation, in accordance to the latest BOE PAM.
Now, the PAM mentions that SAP NetWeaver Java Applications Server 7.3 is supported as well.
    Our questions:
    1. Is SAP NetWeaver Java Applications Server 7.3 = SAP NetWeaver 7.3?
    2. Knowing that SAP NetWeaver 7.3 is SAP NetWeaver CE 7.2 next release (ref.  https://websmp107.sap-ag.de/~sapidb/011000358700001342562009), if we migrate our SAP NetWeaver CE 7.2 to NetWeaver 7.3, than, we should still be supported by SAP, right? ... assuming that the answer to question 1 is yes...
We are confuse with the interpretation of the latest PAM arround the "SAP NetWeaver Java Applications Server 7.3" statement and if anyone of you experts can help us, it would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you and best regards,
    Nathalie

    Hi Nathalie,
The BI4.0 PAR details 2 distinct SAP NW versions which are supported:
    SAP NetWeaverCE 7.2 SP3
    and;
    SAP NetWeaverJavaApplication Server 7.3
    You ask:
    1. Is SAP NetWeaver Java Applications Server 7.3 = SAP NetWeaver 7.3?
Yes, these are the same products.
Correct, if you migrate from SAP Netweaver CE 7.2 to Netweaver 7.3 you will be supported against BI4.0. The other alternative would be to upgrade your CE 7.2 version to CE 7.2 SP3.
I hope this is a very helpful answer to you.
    Kind regards,
    John

  • Good exception handling policy for Java web application

    I'm looking for a good exception handling policy for Java web application. First I found this Java exception handling best practices - How To Do In Java which says that you should never catch the Trowable class nor use e.printStackTrace();
Then I found this Oracle page The Message-Driven Bean Class - The Java EE 6 Tutorial, which does just that. So now I'm confused. Is there a good page online for an exception handling policy for Java EE Web applications? I have a hard time finding one. I've read that you should not catch the Exception class. I've been catching it previously to make sure that some unknown exception doesn't slip through early in the loop and stops all other customers from executing later on in the loop. We have a loop which runs once a minute implemented using the Quartz framework. Is it OK if you just change the implementation to catch the RuntimeException class instead of the Exception class? We're using Java 7 and the Jetty Servlet Container.

I'm looking for a good exception handling policy for Java web application.
If you have not done so I suggest you start by reviewing the several trails in The Java Tutorials.
Those trails cover both HOW to use exceptions and WHEN to use them.
This trail discusses  the 'controversy' you mention regarding 'Unchecked Exceptions'
    http://docs.oracle.com/javase/tutorial/essential/exceptions/runtime.html
    Unchecked Exceptions — The Controversy
Because the Java programming language does not require methods to catch or to specify unchecked exceptions (RuntimeException, Error, and their subclasses), programmers may be tempted to write code that throws only unchecked exceptions or to make all their exception subclasses inherit from RuntimeException. Both of these shortcuts allow programmers to write code without bothering with compiler errors and without bothering to specify or to catch any exceptions. Although this may seem convenient to the programmer, it sidesteps the intent of the catch or specify requirement and can cause problems for others using your classes.
Why did the designers decide to force a method to specify all uncaught checked exceptions that can be thrown within its scope? Any Exception that can be thrown by a method is part of the method's public programming interface. Those who call a method must know about the exceptions that a method can throw so that they can decide what to do about them. These exceptions are as much a part of that method's programming interface as its parameters and return value.
The next question might be: "If it's so good to document a method's API, including the exceptions it can throw, why not specify runtime exceptions too?" Runtime exceptions represent problems that are the result of a programming problem, and as such, the API client code cannot reasonably be expected to recover from them or to handle them in any way. Such problems include arithmetic exceptions, such as dividing by zero; pointer exceptions, such as trying to access an object through a null reference; and indexing exceptions, such as attempting to access an array element through an index that is too large or too small.
Generally don't catch an exception unless you plan to HANDLE the exception. Logging, by itself is NOT handliing.
    First I found this Java exception handling best practices - How To Do In Java which says that you should never catch the Trowable class nor use e.printStackTrace();
That article, like many, has some good advice and some poor or even bad advice. You get what you pay for!
I've read that you should not catch the Exception class.
Ok - but all that does is indicate that a problem of some sort happened somewhere. Not very useful info. Java goes to a lot of trouble to provide specific exceptions for specific problems.
I've been catching it previously to make sure that some unknown exception doesn't slip through early in the loop and stops all other customers from executing later on in the loop.
If the exception is 'unknown' then maybe it NEEDS to 'stop all other customers from executing later on in the loop'.
That is EXACTLY why you don't want to do that. You need to identify which exceptions should NOT stop processing and which ones should.
Some 'unknown' exceptions can NOT be recovered and indicate a serious problem, perhaps with the JVM itself. You can NOT just blindly keep executing and ignore them without risking data corruption and/or the integrity of the entire system Java is running on.
Is it OK if you just change the implementation to catch the RuntimeException class instead of the Exception class? We're using Java 7 and the Jetty Servlet Container.
No - not if you want a well-behaved system.
Don't catch exceptions unless you HANDLE/resolve them. There are times when it makes sense to log the exception (which does NOT handle it) and then raise it again so that it gets handled properly later. Yes - I know that is contrary to the advice given in that article but, IMHO, that article is wrong about that point.
If you have ever had to maintain/fix/support someone else's Java code you should already understand how difficult it can be to find WHERE a problem occurs and WHAT the exact problem is when exceptions are not handled properly.

  • Upgrading BOE XI R2 Java Web Applications to use BOE XI 3.1

    Hello,
Does anyone know where I can get documentation about how to update Java Web Applications using BOE XI R2 to BOE XI 3.1? I search the documentation online and I couldn't find any.
I believe that it should be a matter of just updating the Java Archve (JAR) files and the helper files in the 'crystalreportviewers' folder. There should not be any changes to how I use the Enterprise SDK, RAS and Viewers SDK. If there are any, there should be very few. I just want to make sure of this.
    Thanks,
    R.C.

    Hi,
Upgrading the Jar files and viewers directory ( crystalreportviewers12) should be sufficient. Please refer to 3.1 Java developer guide for ,pre information.
    Thanks
