Integrating bookmarks from other files

I have multiple bookmark files from Firefox and Internet Explorer that I want to integrate into one Safari Bookmark file.
1. I'm thinking of doing this directly by copying and pasting links and adding the html code into the master file. Are there any issues with doing it this way?

Simply go to Safari's File Menu>Import Bookmarks. Navigate to your Firefox and IE bookmarks. The bookmarks will now appear as a separate collection in your Bookmarks Manager (command/option/B keys, or click on the Book Icon in the Bookmarks Bar to open). You can either drag/drop, or copy/paste individual bookmarks, or folders from either of those collections to your other collections.
Firefox's bookmarks are found at Your User Account>Library>Applications Support>Firefox>Profiles>default.tra. In the last folder, select Bookmarks.html.
I'm not certain of the IE location, however, in your User Library, I believe it is located in the "Favorites folder".

1. The 'Favorites' folder you're referring to is the IE bookmarks, not Firefox ones. You can make use of it by putting it to similar location as it was on the new hard drive, and seeing them appear when you launch IE on the new machine.
2. Since you seem to have messed with your current profile, please make a new one as described at [[Managing profiles]], and proceed with it.
3. If step 1 succeeds, you can import bookmarks from the current installation of IE using the '''File''' -> '''Import''' menu. It's described here in detail: [[Importing favorites and other data from Internet Explorer]].
4. Firefox stores the bookmarks in the [http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Profiles#How_to_find_your_profile Profile folder], '''places.sqlite''' file. If you find it on the old machine, you can just copy it over to the new profile and restart Firefox.

Why do I want bookmarks from other clips to remain in the timeline?

Hi,
I've been using iMovie for about a year now and am finally bothering to write in about this. Most of what I use iMove for are music video compilations so I have a bunch of clips that I work on. I trim them, combine them and then make a DVD (with iDVD). My question is, why does iMovie leave the bookmarks from the/all previous clip(s) in the timeline unless I delete them? Why would I (anyone?) want bookmarks from one clip to be there (in the timeline) when I am working on another clip? I take each clip out of the timeline and put it back in the clip window until I am ready to assemble them all, working on them one at a time. The bookmarks remain after I've worked on each on so have to I delete ALL each time. Why would I/anyone want them to stay? (Perhaps they appear in the correct place in the timeline if I keep adding clips but I think, and since I don't do this I may be wrong, that they don't. They certainly don't appear in the correct places when I put other clips in the time line. How could they when I haven't decided where I want the bookmarks to be in the new clips?)
Also, when I do an edit (crop), the bookmarks remain in their places (x frames in for example) even though I have shortened the movie. Shouldn't they adjust and in the case of cropping off some of the beignning, shouldn't they then be right at the beginning if that is where I had marked so I could crop it? I don't understand.

Bookmarks are an editing tool that we create as needed, keep in the Timeline for as long as useful, then discard, one at a time or all together. They are generally discarded when no longer needed.
(I feel Bookmarks are one of iMovie's most useful features, especially when iMovie preferences are set to Snap to items in the Timeline, and snap with audio. Bookmarks greatly simplify editing.)
Personally, I wouldn't want iMovie to decide for me when to discard my Bookmarks, any more than I want iMovie to discard clips or chapters. iMovie isn't very good at reading my mind, so I prefer to make those decisions.
When the current editing task is done, I tell iMovie to discard all the Bookmarks, usually just to clear the table.
The whole point of Bookmarks is to mark a point in the project, not mark a point in a clip. It's not meant to move as you move that clip or others.
You might create a Bookmark to use Direct Trimming to trim a clip to that point, for example, or place a new clip there, or insert a temporary "Black" clip as a placeholder.
You might create a Bookmark to mark the beat of the music in an audio track, for example, the spots you want to sync clips to. As in:

Generally, you create a Bookmark to define a spot you'll use later. Whatever content you edit will move/adjust/fit to the Bookmark, not the other way around.

My firefox-profiles in Ubuntu, are practically one-timers.
Next time i want to use firefox it hangs at start. The window comes up
and it's white, except for a square in upper left corner (without color).
I'm having this problem since June 2010, when I started using an electronic ID,
for access to Swedish goverment organisations. The Electronic ID (BnakID) is
supported in Windows, Mac and Ubuntu. I had a new installation of Ubuntu, in a
virtual machine at that time.
I can't say that this is a problem with Firefox in Ubuntu or some other
combination, I'm a newbie with Ubuntu and BankID.
I've used been using Firefox and installing (Firebird, Mozilla) since 2001,
in other OS:es than Ubuntu (Solaris, RedHat, Windows and SLED).
My workaround are:
- cd ~/.mozilla/firefox
- mv profiles.ini profiles.ini-
- Start and stop firefox
- Copy some files from previous profile, to the new.

Try the fix posted by houseboats in this discussion: spinning beachball suddenly every time at launch. Other users have reported that it fixed their problem which is similar to yours, good with airport off, freeze with airport on.
The only problem I had with the fix was that it killed the name I gave my computer in the System/Sharing preference pane. So if you use it go to that pane and rename your computer as it was originally.

There is no ability with an iPad mini to find a file menu in Safari to import bookmarks from other browsers' export files

New iPad mini and trying to copy across a lot of my core user data from my PC environment with the intention of becoming fully Mac'ised. Have managed to sync calendars with iTunes, but this latter programme frequently hangs up on my old XP computer. I would really like to import my extensive Google Chrome bookmarks to save time and duplication, but most threads on here and elsewhere seem to suggest using the file/import menu in Safari - which doesn't appear to exist on the iPad mini. (does it on the full iPad)? It seems gradually more apparent that you do not get the full functionality of these core apps on the mini - is this true? this is frustrating, because this is not clear from any of the promotional blurb by Apple that there was this scaling down of functionality for the mini.

You're still using your shiniy new iPad.
My experience has been that most of Apple's built in apps are basic. They meet the needs of many people but not everyone. That's why there's the App Store!
Chrome is my browser of choice on my MacBook Air, too.

How can I transfer bookmarks, settings & other files from old Windows XP PC to new Windows 7 PC?

Just got a new Dell computer that has Windows 7 pre-installed. I will use Firefox & Thunderbird on it. I presume I'll have to install both from program downloads. But I have numerous bookmarks, emails, addresses, etc. on my old computer that I want to transfer to the new one. What needs to be done to accomplish this?
I will be using Windows Easy Transfer utility to move files & folders, etc. from the old to the new.

I switched from a PC to an iMac and i'm trying to set up the Safari browser. I was using MSN explorer as my default. I saved the .xml file where all my bookmarks were stored. Is there a way I can import the .xml file so all my bookmarks can load?

That setting only imports from the Android browser or Chrome. Because of the permission model of Android apps are not allowed to read other app's files. For example Firefox cannot read Opera's bookmark file due and Opera is unable to read Firefox's bookmark file.

Enabling button from other file/screen

I have a start screen with a button that is enabled by default. To enable it, login is required. When u click login button, it opens a new screen/java file. I verify acc. ID and psswd there. Can i also enable the button on the main window from the login window?
When i try ManageDB(name of main).btnView.setEnabled(true) i get non-static context error.

Seems like the first thing you'ld show is a logon screen, unless you had a splash screen also. If you want to show the application frame first with buttons disabled then that's up to you. Logon windows are usually modal dialogs. So display the modal dialog, validate username and password, then close the dialog, then get what you need from the dialog in order to determine if the button on the main frame should be enabled, then dispose of the dialog. It's pretty simple really but if you're having "static" problems then that's another issue alltogether.

How to copy records from 2 file (one file depending from other file)

In fact I have 2 files orders (1 heading, 1 detail):
- COM_COMMANDES = heading,
- COM_COMMANDES_LIGNES = D2TAIL,
COM_COMMANDES_LIGNES depends on COM_COMMANDES.
When I make an INSERT INTO in COM_COMMANDES, it makes me creation well.
On the other hand, when I make an INSERT INTO in COM_COMMANDES_LIGNES, it creates me a recording BUT not with the identifying good (that created in COM_COMMANDES).
Result: I have well the order copied but without the lines.
Thank you to help me because I do not manage to regulate this problem.

You can't. Pages can only hyperlink to Pages documents. When you open a word document in Pages it becomes a Pages document and isn't a Word document anymore.
