Interactive Excel reporting tool

Hello guys,
sorry to bother you again with my EC-CS questions but I think that all the experts have moved to the BCS & BPC forums!
I am currently trying to choose the best reporting tool for my EC-CS solution.
- Does any one of you know if the Interactive Excel tool is compatible with EC-CS with mySAP ERP 2005 and excel 2007?
- Is this tool similar to the BEX used into BW?
- Has any one of you any helpfull documentation about the implemenation of this tool?
- Is there any inconvenient compared to Report Writter or Drill down reporting?
Thank you in advance for your help,
Best regards,
Pascal.

I am not certain as to the compatability between ERP 2005 and Excel 2007 - sorry.
It is similar but they are completely different technologies. BEX replaces interactive excel in BCS.
Sorry, again no documentation I am aware of.
My preference is the drilldown reports, but many users prefer interactive excel.

  • How to Extract data from a Request management tool to Apex to avoid working on Excel reports

Client uses a ticketing tool,I donot know what is the database for the tool, but I would like to know the best way to extract data from the tool to pex so that we can eliminate working on Excel reports. These excel reports are basically the open request log, resolved tickets, aging tickets etc, currently we work on many excel reports, can we achieve this in Apex ,if so how do we achieve this. Then we would like to use this report and prepare multiple charts, how the above two requirements can be mapped.

A very important function for the system will be - one sends an email in certain format to a dummy email address, then some data will be extracted from the email based on the pre-defined format and inserted into the database my APEX application is using.
Any idea on how I can make it happen please? I agree that this is not really an Apex question, but a more general PL/SQL question.
There are many approaches, all boiling down to one of these two:
    1) Push: Some process in the mail server sends/forwards information to your database when new mail arrives.
The language/tools used to do this, and the way it would connect to your database, depends on your environment (what is your operating system? mail server? existing middleware/tools? security protocols used? etc.).
    2) Pull: Some process in the database contacts the mail server and polls for new information.
Ie. some PL/SQL code would communicate with the mail server. Again, it depends on your environment (what is your operating system? mail server? existing middleware/tools? security protocols used? etc.).
For example, if you are using Exchange 2007 or newer, it has a web services API:
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd877045.aspx
The challenge here will be to build the correct SOAP requests from PL/SQL, and to handle the security protocols used.

  • SAP CRM 7.0 - Interactive reporting tool enhancing reports with new fields

    Hi Everyone,
I am a BW Professional, currently working on evaluating the true benefits of implementing Interactive Reporting tool for our company. As I understand the Interactive reporting tool restricts us to report on individual reporting areas like Activities, Leads, Opportunties etc.
But according to our business it is very important for us to be able to report on cross reporting areas real time i.e. activities & leads together or activties, leads & opportunties together etc.
I learned about the enhancement work bench in interactive reporting tool where we can add SAP fields to individual reporting areas, so I thought of adding leads & opportunties to activities. This is where the fun part starts.
Here I learned that all activty ID, Lead ID and Oppo ID are all fed from one single field from SAP CRM i.e. OBJECT_ID, which means the system is dividing this data into individual reporting areas based on type of data i.e. leads or oppor's etc. and may be based on some key like account etc. So here is a technical question, for me to add a new field to a reporting area I have to give a field name but we already have OBJECT_ID from where I am pulling activties data, so if I want to include leads also in activties then I will have to add some logic manually to get that and can't use enhancement workbench because it is for missing fields from SAP CRM whereas in my case I already have OBJECT_ID from where I am getting Activity data.
Sorry if I am driving you guys crazy but I am just trying to think loud to make myself clear with concepts.
Also I have seen that a reporting area in Interactive reporting tool is based on a BW query, but I am not sure why not all the fields in BW query are available for reporting in Interactive reporting tool?
Any help or commets will be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks & Regards,
    SRV

    Hello,
checking with the config wizard is always a good idea since it's the only supported way to configure this scenario
The secret is that you apparently did not activate the report areas. It is a bit missleading that the queries are checked before the report areas are checked, therefore you see the errors concerning the queries first. Below those errors you should find some lines like
Report areas: delivered 15, active <?>
CRM interactive reports: delivered 20, active <?>
        Activation of report areas checked
The last line offers some documentation and the actual link to activate the report areas.

  • Versions of Hyperion Interactive Reporting tool

    Hi,
Can anyone tell me what is the lowest verison of Hyperion Interactive Reporting tool and the latest version. I need this for my analysis.
I searched for it , I was able to find Hyperion 11 is the latest one and Hyperion 6 was the lowest as far I searched.
Do anyone know exactly which is the lowest and highest version of Hyperion Interactive Reporting tool ?
    Thanks in Advance..

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brio_Technology
Hope this gives you a little history lesson on the product. I have only started working with Brio 8.1.3 (now Interactive Reporting) since 2006. I have seen documents for version 6.x, and I heard version 7.x was a horrible product and short-lived.
Interactive Reporting Studio (the client version) has not really changed much since version 8.x. The drivers to connect to various ODBC have been added with introduction of 32-bit and 64-bit O/S.
I am a big fan of Brio, but it's not a commonly use tool.

  • Generating Excel Report from Outlook 2013 for the meetings attended/ accepted

    Hello Team,
Could you please advise how do I Generate Excel Report from Outlook 2013 for the meetings I attended/ accepted. Also I do I check or figure out the time I spent attending meeting.
Please help to answer me ASAP.
    Thank you
    Preet

    Hi Preet,
As far as I know, no features in Office client can generate Excel workbook from Outlook. But we can implement this requirement by macros. If you want to receive more information, I suggest you post this issue on MSDN forum.

  • Best OLTP Reporting Tool

    Hi Gurus,
My company asked me to build a reporting framework to support their needs on OLTP, i am trying to do some research on which tool is the best tool to do reporting on OLTP..
Need help to find out a best reporting tool to make reports on OLTP data base
Right now we are using OBIEE for our OLAP reporting and we are open to implement any tools, need inputs and comparisons between all the available tools and pros and cons also.
    Appreciate all your inputs/suggestion.
    Thanks,
    Seshu.

    1) I guess you tried to pull thousands or report's rows on screen. Firstly OBIEE does pagination perfectly. Secondly human being cannot handle more than 30-50 lines physically. It is simple psychology. As soon as you've jumped on other couple pages you have no idea what was on the first pages. I've never seen such an idiot who would need report even with few hundred rows. Such reports are example of bad practice.I agree with that but you missed my point. Enterprises are large "beats" and as such they have many departments where they use different tools. In an ideal world you will have one and only one DWH with one an only one reporting tool on top. The thruth is that this never ever happens in reality. So in many cases users are asked to provide larde data extracts to use as sources for other reporting systems or external entities. OBIEE can not handle these data extracts properly as it not designed to work as an "extraction tool". This is what you missed. BO can handle them very well as it was designed as an extration tool in mind.
    2) Here you are right if it is all about dimensional model. However here is the difference between OLTP and data warehouse. In data warehouse users should be educated to know conceptual and logical models. BTW you are getting requirements from them and you say they don't know which dims can be pulled with facts and which ones cannot? Wow )) Also OBIEE does allow to pull such dims ( not connected to facts ) using very simple OBIEE modeling technique (level-based measures). That makes OBIEE reporting/analytics very flexible. You are only thinking dimensional. That's very good for an OBIEE developer. But the world is more than just dimensional. You can't answer all reporting requirements with a dimensional model I am afraid. So keep this in mind. A DWH is not the solution to all report requirements just like saying "a truck is the best vehicle in the world because it's big and can transport big loads". BTW have you tried to implement cross-fact analysis in OBIEE? Do you know that you need to set the content level for each non-confirmed dimension in each measure individually or OBIEE will bring back the measure as "NULL"? It's non-sense really, it's too tricky and too flaky.
    3) OBIEE has GUI object called PROMPT. There you have full power to force users to apply filters. And you can easily pre-defined your prompt's filter values.Again you missed a key word on my statement: "adhoc users". Prompts are fine but don't exist unless the OBIEE developer creates them in advance, typically in a dashboard. I am talking about ad-hoc here so you know that's Answers. Try to restrict Answers users and force them to put a filter on a column and you will know what I mean. BO can do this in the metadata very easily. OBIEE can't. Prompts are fine (*) but they need to be created in advance by the report developer. (*) Actually they are not that fine, you can't even force them OOTB to use a prompt or not run a dashboard without any values. Sure there are work arounds, but such a basic feature should be part of the product!
    4) OBIEE has different concepts of dims hierarchies and visual presentations. Here you are mixing them together. Indeed OBIEE 10g has such a restriction on GUI to have maximum two embedded levels. But it is only visual presentation. In business model you can have N levels of hierarchy and multiple hierarchies in dim . My goodness !!!Do you really think that ORACLE does not follow dimensional modeling ABCs? BTW please check Gartner's magic quadrants. ............BTW did you see OBIEE 11g demo ??????Yes it's only visual presentation, but that's one of the most important things! It's a stupid restriction. If you can have N levels on the BMM why shouldn't you have the ability to prent the data in more levels. Yes, I have seen the magic quadrant and Microsoft is on top of OBIEE (see http://www.gartner.com/technology/media-products/reprints/microsoft/vol2/article15/article15.html). Yes I have seen OBIEE 11g and have running on one of our Dev boxes. It's one of the most buggy releases I have seen in years. Only last week the client tools were released for Windows. How can you have proper ecosystem without proper client tools? No Solaris or HPUX release so it's a partial release. No support for other J2EE web app servers. From our point of view OBIEE 11g is a beta release. We are seating and waiting for Oracle to clean it this mess and get the product stable. And if you think Oracle Support will help read this: http://searchoracle.techtarget.com/news/2240031826/Has-the-phrase-Oracle-Support-become-an-oxymoron
    5) Inheritance...Hm, maybe it is simple dimensional modeling concept of supertype/subtype described in any BI/DW books? I am not arguing. maybe BO does it with one click. yeah, convenient enough, but no critical.Consider this problem. You have a large DWH that a large organisation wants to share with different departments which they would then extend adding they own data sources and customise to their own needs. How would you handle changes in the "core" model that need to feed to the different departments metadata stores? RPD merging and MUDE is a mess to be honest, it barely works and it's too prone to human error. Once you worked in a very large project with many OBIEE developers working in different parallel projects you will realise that inheritance is the only sensible solution. I wish Oracle would see this as well. If the metadata was in a database it would have been so much easier...
    6) Again just lack of knowledge of dimensional modeling in OBIEE. The one support ALL types of models: snowflakes (3NF) and star. Only what OBIEE requires you cannot have standalone logical table without any relations to at least one another table. Heh...I cannot recall such an example even from Bill Inmon. Regarding 3 layers. This gives you tremendous advantage over BO )) Why? It is long story))You can support all models in dimensional, but should you be forced to use it? 3 layers is not advantage. It's an interesting aproach to solve how you need to model things in OBIEE. You have become too used to it and now think it's the best in the world. It's not, in a relational reporting solution 2 layers are more than enough (physical with all your joins and presentation with all your business names and hierarchies).
    8) You I understood you correctly ))))))) None of BI tools today can beat OBIEE on number of supported data sources. I'm just wondering. When you add new column in dim/fact table you DO NOT change your metadata????? My assumption is that BO does always "select * from <table name>"? Yes, then you don't have to change your metadata. The what kind of query BO generates against database??? select d1.*,f1* from dim d1, fact f1...????OK consider this requirement. You work for a top US bank. You have invested $5m in the state-of-the-art DWH with OBIEE that covers every requirement you may even need. The US FED comes in and tells you that it wants one of your excellent reports but filtered for a number of companies. They give the user a spreadsheet with 20k companies that you need to filter you report on. Can any user in OBIEE perform the filtering without any changes in OBIEE? No. In BO you can. End of the argument.
    9) That is not true AT ALLYou saying that OBIEE can "merge" two Answers reports and get attributes from both queries in an INNER/OUTER/FULL OUTER fashion? Please show me how, I love to learn from you! (BO indeed can).
    10) You r kidding me )) have you forgotten in what time are we living??))) Do you read latest news? By 2016 most of businesses will be in social networks. Everyone wants to be power user holding mobile device in his hands!!!
AND.....OBIEE already DOES it !!!The web client works for 90% of the user population, as said in my comment for real "power users" a fat client approach works best. There browsers are still not powerful enough to handle large data sets. Going back to Gartner's 2011 Quadrant for Business Intelligence Platforms, which you seem to love, I quote from it: "[...] it (Oracle) has lacked innovation around mobile, in-memory, consumerization, interactive visualization and search [...]".
Please forgive me to be so sarcastic. But today the only real advantage BO over OBIEE is PRICE. I would really advise you to look at OBIEE11g. It is almost different product then OBIEE10g.I love sarcasm. Sarcasm is my middle name. But you need to open your mind a bit. OBIEE has taken control of your brain! :-) One solution does not fit all. The world of IT is too big for that...

  • BW (BEx) and BOBJ Reporting-Tools

    Hi All,
I'm looking for an article or anything, that describes the difference between SAP BW (BEx) and Business Objects- Reporting tools .
which tools is suitable for what purpose?
    thanks
    brad

This isn't mine - it may even be yours - but just in case anyone looks at this thread, here it is
    BO vs BEx
    Ease of use:
BO - Very user friendly interface, Minimal requirement for MDX code, Some queries take more time in BO analysis, when compared to BEx Analyzer
BEx - Difficult self service reporting and analytics, Being Excel based, it needs extensive VBA or Macro programming for a great UI
    Features:
BO - Export functionality (PDF, MSOffice etc), More chart types, Has more advanced features, Design and Preview Tab in the same page, Provides offline capabilities
BEx - Is mostly for SAP only but With integration can access BEx query from BO, Web App Designer is effort intensive, Build and preview are separate views
    Support from SAP:
BO - Part of SAP integration roadmap, All current and future dev. in the BI front-end is focused on the SAP BO BI solutions, Crystal Reports is now main reporting tool, replacing BEx Report Designer
BEx - BEx is no longer the strategic direction, BEx product line will be phased out completely by 2016
    Compatibility with other data source:
BO - Able to merge data from various sources in the same report, Can connect to any Database, very flexible in design
BEx - Gets data from BI
    Implementation effort and ownership cost:
BO - Longer deployment period compared to BEx, Additional server needed, May require additional components setup for BW, May need separate license for Business Objects Enterprise (BOE) platform, BO uses OLEDB for OLAP API via BEx query, may cause an overhead, BW Accelerator may be needed to improve query response time, scalability and visibility.
BEx - Only MS office and BEx client are needed for installation, BEx is bundled with NetWeaver

  • Extremely Urgent - Excel reports in Oracle9i

I need to output several of my existing reports PDF reports to MS Excel. The excel report must look close to the PDF output. How can I accomplish this ? We currently use reports 6i but the 'delimited' option and the 'delimiteddata' (data model driven) will not work for me as the report does not look anything like I want.
I believe reports 9i has better capabilities of outputting to excel. I came across this web page:
    http://technet.oracle.com/products/reports/htdocs/getstart/demonstrations/index.html
Switching to a different tool is not an option. I have to use Oracle Reports 6i or 9i.
but there is not enough information in the slide show to help me. My reports are quite complex with several levels of grouping. I have several place holder, formula columns, summary columns. The totalling happens in various hierarchical levels.
Is there any documentation anywhere else other than this slideshow?
    Any help is appreciated
    Thanks

    Hi Suresh,
You might want to try a workaround:
Suppose you have the paper layout defined in the report (Oracle Reports9i). Go to the web source, and change the contentType as
    <%@ page contentType="application/vnd.ms-excel" %>
Also, in the jsp, inside the <rw:dataarea> tag, refer to the "outermost frame" of your paper layout, eg
    <rw:dataArea id="yourDataArea">
<!-- Report Wizard inserts the default jsp here -->
    <rw:include id="M_G_EMPLOYEE_ID_GRPFR" src="M_G_EMPLOYEE_ID_GRPFR">
    </rw:include>
    </rw:dataArea>
Deploy the jsp and access it in the browser. It should show the output in Excel.

  • Interactive PowerView report (Incl Map) load to Web site

    Hi,
What is the best, easiest & quickest way to load an existing Interactive PowerView report & map to an existing Web site (not Shharepoint)? Interactivity is required after loading.
    Regards,
    Allan

    Hi Allan,
If you want to display a Power View report in a normal PHP or ASP .NET Website, the only way I can think of is that to open the power View Excel document from SharePoint (it should render as a web app) and copy the URL and then use it in your website.
But I don't think you can interact with this 'report'. the SharePoint should be the best option for you to Presenting Power View Reports to Users, since it totally support the Power View report feature.

  • Sap reporting tools

    Hi,
    Plz any one explain
    1. What are the Sap reporting Tools
    2. What r the diff between Forms and Reports
plz if possible give some examples
    thanks in advance

  • Basis of reporting tools

    HI
If we use crystal reports  as reporting tool,In business organisation  we don't use any other reporting tool like web intelligence, live office, desktop intelligence etc.
On what  basis organisation select there reporting tool from business objects for there business  purpose?
If they use one reporting tool namely xcelsius, they won't use crystal reports?
IF they use only one why is so?
If organisation use multiple reporting tool then what is the need and scenarios ,where we prefer to use on what basis ?
    Thanks in advance

    hi
each reporting tool has its own features
    Eg
webi  --   Powerful on-line  adhoc query and reporting
if you want to use web based reporting you can use
                   For  Interactive Analysis purpose
Deski--- you can use  offline even though the system is not connected to repository
                  where as webi not
x celsius--it is nothing but a dashboard.after creating xcesius dashboard even layman also can
                     understand with the pictorial presentation
especially for those business users who doesnt have time to analyse the data
By viewing simple picture they can get results
Eg the country map shows the no of population
in each state with color representation
                   or  through pie diagram
live office :- is also kind of reporting with additional benefits of using Microsoft office
(means a webi report  requirest some additional  of ms office functionality. For this requirement
you can import in live office and use additioanlly)
crystal reports: generally used for complex reporting  or for highly formatted reports
    thanks

    Hi,
I am using Report Generation Tool kit for my Excel Report, I want to give the Print Option to User, before printing the documents the user likes to see the Preview of the document(as option in Excel and Other Application), Is there a possibility to generate a preview of the excel report before printing it? Please give me the solution if any one have.
    regards,

    Suresh,
The key to displaying the print preview screen is in ActiveX just like Darren said.  I wrote a quick program that opens an ActiveX reference to an excel file and then shows the print preview.

  • Difference among the reporting tool

    Hi There,
I am new on Hyperion, I am wondering what is the differences among these reporting tools:
    1. Interactive Reporting
    2. Financial Reporting
    3. SQR Production reporting

I think you will find the following links helpful.
Oracle Enterprise Performance Management & Business Intelligence Datasheets & Brochures

Data sheet: Hyperion Interactive Reporting-IR (PDF)

Keep in mind that of the 3 listed only Financial Reporting is considered a strategic reporting tool.
Oracle's strategic replacements are as follows

IR -> OBIEE - Answers, Dashboards, and Delivers

  • Comparison in reporting tools

    Hi All,
I have a question, that whenever we are presented with a requirement document to develop a report, how can we determine which is the best reporting tool which can be used.
    Regards,
    Ankur

    Hi,
'each worksheet essentially creates and runs a single SQL statement 'A Discoverer workbook is like an Excel and is made up of a number of worksheets. When the user runs a worksheet Discoverer builds an SQL statement and sends this to the database. The results returned from the database are then displayed. Each worksheet can run a single SQL statement so you cannot have separate SQL for example, for header and body, you must combine all the data you want in the worksheet into a single query.
'With Reports 6i each report can run many SQL Statements and the results can be formated in anyway you like'.In Reports 6i you can create many queries within a report, so for example you can have master and detail queries. So can use the master query to display the header records and the detail query for the records under the heading. You can layout and format the results on page anyway you want, so for example, so can format one field based on the content in another field.
Is it somehow performance based difference also? Both the tools run SQL in the database, so if the SQL is the same then you will get much the same performance. If the data returned in Discoverer workbook is the same as the data in the Reports 6i report then they can use the same SQL, so you won't see any performance difference.
