Interactive Flash on a DVD?
I have a SD DVD with 3 Videos and I want to also put 1 interactive Flash video on this same DVD. Is this possible?
You can certainly do it by adding a microsite, as you describe. The bigger issue is getting it to autorun when you click a link in the menu of the DVD. Currently there is no reliable way to get such links working effectively on both macs and PCs, and as you have already pointed out, you can't play enhanced content on the set top player anyway.
On the Mac side of things, the technology to get interactive links is called DVD@ccess. This works, to a fashion, on a Mac. It \sometimes works on \some PCs \if you persuade the user of the PC to install the DVD@ccess software and \if their system recognises it and allows it to work. Many don't.
In essence, the viewer would see the link on a menu, click the button and be taken to another menu (@ccess links can only be embedded in the menu - i.e work when the menu is played, not when a button is clicked). When the new menu plays, the web browser will launch over the top of the DVD player app. Therefore, in the background you could 'time out' the menu and go back to the first one almost immediately. The user would never see that happen, because the web page was in front, starting up and distracting their attention.
Since DVD@ccess is so unreliable the only way to do this would be to give the viewers the instructions on how to find the content - possibly as text on a menu - and rely on them navigating to the folder you have created and double-clicking the index.htm file (or whatever) to get it running.
All you need to do to get this set up is add your microsite as ROM content to your DVDSP project, taking care to nest the folders carefully and set the disc based URL correctly.

Flash Video with DVD-like motion menus -- Is this possible?
Hi all,
I just joined this gropup. I have some SMIL 2.0 presentations
with synchnorized multiple audio (several languages supported) and
video as well as DVD-like still and motion menus. These are
semi-transparent menus and actually are super-imposed over main
playback area (root layout in SMIL).
Can Flash Video has menus in it?
Can this type of a/v synchronization and menuing be done in
Flash Video?
I don't want to write as SWF with menus since clips and # of
menus on screen and placement might be different from video to
video. These are for some training videos.
To give a background, in SMIL I have an application server
(Jboss) which is dynamically creating SMIL based upon database,
user inputs and menu selections. What is basically sent back to the
browser is SMIL page markup including playlist of clips up to next
menu point. Once all clips are watched and user selects menu button
to continue then a new SMIL is generated and processs repeated.
I am thinking off porting this over to Flash Video because
currently clients need RealPlayer (has SMIL 2.0) support to be
downloaded and installed. Another local app to manage!
Any ideas or recommendations?
Thanks and kindest regards,
-MarkYou can build interactive DVDs with video and audio, but no Word documents (at least not as part of the interactivity). DVD SP can certainly be used to create interactive DVDs. The advantage is that interactivity will extend to DVD players, not just computers.
If you want very rich interactive content, with Word docs, PDFs, etc. Then the best program would be Director. However there are some caveats with Director.
1) The learning curve for Director is extremely steep. You would be better off hiring a freelancer who already knows the program, then spending all the time learning all the ins and outs of the program.
2) Director is essentially a dead program. Since Adobe acquired it a couple of years ago, they have made no upgrades of the program. Nor have they made any announcements on continued development.
3) The content you develop will only be playable on computers, not DVD players. -
Hi
I am creating a flash animation to be projected. I have to burn in onto a dvd. I have tried converting the .mov file that flash exports, and flv to mpeg. The preview looks fine, but every time the dvd quality is terrible. I have tried HD, h. 264, NTSC. I have also tried converting a .swf to mpeg with no luck.
I am using flash CS5.
Please help.
I was wondering if I try to burn the html file that flash creates to DVD, would that work? Or should I try exporting the image sequence and put it back together in another program such as Final Cut or imovie? Should I use something other than Encore to convert the files? It's strange that a dvd would be so problematic, especially since it is not a long movie, it has no complicated video or images.
See Jim's suggestion.
DVD is TV, not computer; the specs that determine how DVDs behave on DVD players are very exacting. But primarily, you are no longer creating flash for computer, but for TV/DVD. Follow those rules and you'll get what you are after. -
How to embed interactive flash in PDF
I am trying to place an interactive Flash .swf file into a
PDF. I don't want it to just play through like a movie. I need
people to be able to click through it, and interact with it as if
it. There are, for example, 4 matching problems. So a person will
match for the question in problem 1, then click a button to see if
they got them right or wrong, then click next to go to the next
question. We've gotten it so that you can do all the interaction in
the PDF, but it first playes through all the questions and actions.
Basically it playes through it like a movie. Does anyone know how
to get it so it doesn't play through like a movie and instead is
just an interactive piece? Sorry that this is really
confusing. If this post answers your question or helps, please mark it as such.
You can use SWLoader for that:

How do I export one of my albums in iphoto in the same order that it appears onto a flash drive or dvd?
Remember that the FInder does not have the same sorting options that iPhoto has - no manual sorting for instance. So
File -> Export and in the resulting dialogue note the options for Naming Files
Album Name with Number will give you what you want. -
I've a client who asked for a bid on a project, which piqued
my curiosity.However, from
my probing it seems they wanted the Quicktime movies turned
into FLV files
but wanted them for DVDs. They were not as yet concerned
about output for
the web.
I was curious and a bit confused and then wondered about the
aspect ratios
of Flash on a DVD. Their original QT movs would be 720x486
and FLV output
is 680x480.
The question: what happens when you have FLV aspect ratios on
DVD and then
you play the dvd on computer or tv? Do you get the clipping
or black bars
on both outputs?
Or should you (can you) render a Flash FLV in the 720x486
mode, or 720x480?
They never defined for me clearly their final output goal but
wanted a 1
week turn around on 45 hours of QT. I told them it "might" be
possible in
single pass VBR, but...
It seems they want a bank of computers, and I could only run
2 full time on
processing. Anyone know of big production houses that do this
type of
transfer full time and do it at a reasonable rate? Thanks for recommendation. The DVD2Web Converter does look like the appropriate tool.

Best way to embed an Mov file into interactive flash game?
Hey,
just a quick query. I'm creating an interactive flash game for a university project. It's along the lines of Guitar Hero, Tap Tap Revolution, Boom Boom Rocket etc..
At the moment the game comprises of streaks of notes generated by Actionscript which the user much hit the corresponding key when notes are in the receptor. The background at the moment is an audio spectrum analyser created using AS based on the music playing.
I want to add loop movie file as the very background of the stage and was just wondering what was the best way to place it there with the least ammount of overheads. At the moment I have it in a child movie clip placed on the stage, in which I use File -> Import and embeded the FLV file into the time line. This works, however lags out quite badly.
Any help would be appriciated.
Thanks in advance,
John MinnsHave you tried this method?
1. Save as new file.
2. With your usual color management preferences selected, run Xtras>Color>'Name all colors'.
3. In color swatches list, select all colors. From swatches pop-up menu 'Make RGB'.
4. In Preferences>Color, set color management settings to 'None'. The RGB colors should look about the same as they did with color management on.
Now you should be able to export to Flash with RGB colors that look quite close to your CMYK version of the file.
This should work the same in FH9 or FHMX. I hope it does the trick for you. -
Interactive Flash Presentation with Quiz
Hello,
I am College student that has been asked to create a Flash based presentation for High School students, showing them some of the available facilities, some general topics for the major and what not. I am not Flash Savvy, but I do know that keynote can export a keynote presentation as an interactive flash
file (swf ?).
My question is this, does anyone know of a way to create a simple quiz type functionality in Keynote; where the High School students could enter the answer for a couple questions and get a score back ?
I hope that's not terribly confusing.
Thank you and best regards
quicksilver Duel 1ghz 1.5GB Radeon9800pro 128mb Mac OS X (10.4.8)There's not a way to get a score back with Keynote as there's not a "counter" variable you can increment in order to report a total at the end.

Embedding an interactive flash into Authorware
I want to embed a flash interactive into Authorware (see:
http://www.cellsalive.com/meiosis.htm
In the past I embedded a basic Flash animation into
Authorware and it seem to work ok. I'm not sure of more complex
ones i.e. that have interactive controls etc. I assume its not so
simple as to embed into authorware. Is it the case that it is
doable, but requires some configuration/programming? Or does it
work be simply embedding the complex interactive flash into
authorware?
thanks in advance

If the flash file id published for player version 6 (or
earlier) then
you can embed it using the Flash Asset Xtra, probably in the
same way as
you have before. If it is a later version you will need to
use the
Flash player ActiveX control.

Is this interactive flash movie possible in Adobe Edge?
Hi,
I´ve done this interactive flash applikation:
http://bit.ly/Uy6GEF
Is it possible to create this exactly the same in adobe edge? If you click on a hotspot, then a 3d-video (this video is already done in a 3d-animation-software) with a transparent background appears over the car-layer and on click to "back" it softly disapears.
(For this online version, I´ve just put a compressed video into "Gasoline & Diesel system". Normally, every hotspot has a different video.
So, are those interactions possible in Edge?
Best regards,
MawEverything except for the alpha transparency video is easily doable in Edge.
Rather then trying to shoehorn html5 video with an alpha transparency into Edge (not sure if this is doable), you could potentially use a png sequence or spriteSheet to play back those animations. Though the file size will be very large, and Edge does not have native implementation for png sequences or spriteSheet playback. yet.
John Dunning built a plugin for Fireworks to export a spritesheet as an Edge symbol:

Create a User-Interactive Flash
Is there any way I can create an interactive Flash with which the user can put X-marks on random locations of a picture? (e.g. X marking different locations on a map.)
Thank you very much for the reply.
I know very little about Flash, or AS for that matter. Is there any way I could find a step-by-step way of following your guide?
On my part, I opened Flash and clicked CTRL + R.
I imported a PNG that looks like an "X".
I then clicked F8, and chose the name XMark for my symbol, and checked "Export for ActionScript" and "Export in frame 1".
I then clicked on File > New, and chose "ActionScript 3.0 Class". I typed the "Class name" as XMark.
A window popped up with a default script (below).
Here's where I got stuck: I have two tabs. One is my PNG in the form of a movie, and one the script window.
What do I do here? (I guess I am asking, how do I "merge" the two tabs into one flash?)
Also, do I cut and paste your script after the following, or should I delete the default script?:
package {
public class XMark {
public function XMark() {
// constructor code
Any help would be very much appreciated. -
Using Keynote for Interactive Flash Content
Hi,
I'm creating an interactive E-Book using Keynote,
In Keynote '08 I could export to Flash, and that would not be able to export transitions but apart from that, worked OK,
But in Keynote '09 I can only export to Quicktime, which works fine using hyperlinks only ( therefore it's interactive ) so everything is OK. Only this quicktime file is 27mb big, and I want to convert it to flash, but using Quicktime Pro to convert it always takes away the interactivity of the E-Book, it becomes a self-playing movie file,
I want to know if there is any way to convert an Interactive Hyperlinks-Only Quicktime file, to an Interactive Flash file??
And if I create this quicktime file in Mac will it work the same in Quicktime for Windows?
(I am creating the E-Book for a windows user)
Any help or advice would be deeply appreciated,
thanks
HarryOkay so how much of that $25 is Adobe making;
50% margin would suggest $16.67 per unit.
$699 is suggested retail price for the latest incarnation of Flash CS4.
What the "OEM Software" merchants are offering is a pre-Adobe version of Flash 8 Pro, in German, for Mac, that obviously very few people would want. If they had accepted PayPal, I would have bought it, but I was not willing to reveal to them my credit card.
So: +what alternatives do we have?+
There's a Mom & Pop outfit called "Vertical Moon" that offers a number of modest tools with free demos, notably [SWF'n Slide|http://www.verticalmoon.com/index.htm]. I do appreciate frugality when it comes to solving technical problems (as opposed to bloatware, like Microsoft and Adobe's). The latest news from the "moon" people is dated September 2008, so maybe their future is dim, but I've just looked at their documentation and find it well conceived and well crafted. I'll give them a try.
In the future, perhaps we shall see some Open Source project succeed, like [JSwiff|http://www.jswiff.com/index.jsp].
Then again, it is a fact that *Keynote 08* (version 3.0.2, in particular) does almost everything I ask it to, including export to ".swf", except it fails to export when I embed certain things like midi or QuickTime. It's a lot friendlier, I must say, than any PowerPoint editor I've encountered. Don't you love those yellow alignment guides that show up spontaneously when you move things around?
That thought opens the temptation to edit to heart's content with KN'08, export,
and then edit the swf xml file with a text editor,
and the auxiliary file structure with Mac OS Finder! -
Can flash make a dvd for tv?
Hi,
Thanks for any help anyone can offer. I have a project that
is requiring me to create a dvd with video and menus and such. I
was wondering if anyone knew if flash has the capabilities to do
this. If you know of any tutorials? I know Director can do it I
just don’t know director like I know flash and I don’t
want to have to buy it for one project.
Thank you so much!catecourtney wrote:

No, flash is not DVD capable.
DVD menus are made of videos and Bitmap images, so the only
thing you can use
flash for, is to create some animation, export it to video
format and then use some
3rd party tools to use that video to assemble menus. No way
to make it directly out
of flash. As you said, Director is much better choice for it.

Hello,
Wonder if anyone could help me?
I am creating an interactive Flash video with hotspots.
I have my video in Flash and I have created the hotspots at
different points in the video. What I want to achieve is when the
user is watching the video and they click correctly, some text
appears and adds an icon to a score board on the screen they see.
There are a total of 10 correct areas where they need to
click on the video, so the maxium they can achieve is 10.
Is they anyway I can achieve this and possibly how?
Thank you very much... I am very confused where to start.
Kind regards,
PaulCreate some invisible buttons to place on top of the video.
Then embed cue points in the video to trigger the buttons to appear
and disappear when appropriate.

Slideshow navigation arrows flash up on DVD playback
I burned a slideshow using iDVD version 6.0.4.
I selected Fit to Audio for the Slide Duration. In Settings, I de-selected Display Navigation Arrows (I removed the check mark from the box next to Display Navigation Arrows.) I would expect that when I burn the DVD and view it on my DVD player, the navigation arrows would not appear. However, the navigation arrows flash on the screen just before each transition. They don't stay on the screen but they are very distracting when they flash with every slide.
When I preview the slideshow in iDVD I don't see the navigation arrows.
Is there a way to fix this?I had a simialr issue today as well which you may wish to read about as to how I resolved (or worked around) this issue.
