Interactive Reporting 9.3.1 - Server-side ODBC setup for Windows Authent.

Help. I am having a problem with Interactive Reporting connections to SQL server through the Web Client.
In our environment, we have the Hyperion BI 9.3.1 suite. We develop IR documents (BQY's) on our local machine using Studio and using locally setup ODBC connections to SQL Server, using Windows NT authentication. Everything works perfectly fine, locally.
When we upload the BQY and the OCE, and properly associate them to each other in Workspace, we then proceed to open them using the Web Client. The file opens fine, and when I hit process to run the query, I am prompted to login. When I login (using my NT Authenticated login), I receive the following error message: "Error Logging on as Windows User: Win32 Error code: 1385 Logon failure: the user has not been granted the requested logon type at this computer."
The ODBC that was setup on the server was setup to use NT Authentication (as opposed to SQL server). The DAS connections are setup properly. My question is - how do you setup a connection to a SQL server using NT authentication and have the user authenticate through the Web Client. We don't want to grant users access to the server directly.
If you can't answer this question, can you tell me how you have setup your connections on the server through DAS and how you properly maintained security controls?

its not really in the bqy (its in the oce) but I understand your point. Now we get to the point It s not my expertiece any more but perhaps something like row level security or making use of odsusername variable might give some solution or workaround. sometimes this how we solve it when it comes to sensitive information from a app DB. We retrieve users security from the db app and use it as a where clause in the bqy. as long as endusers do not have enough right to change the query its enough.

I am following the steps "To optimize the file server for mobile accounts" which are listed on page 157 in Mac OS X Server v10.6 - User Management :
In Server Admin, click the disclosure triangle for the server hosting network home folders for mobile accounts.
If Firewall isn’t listed, select the server, click Settings, click Services, select Firewall, and then click Save.

My questions is:
In step 2, I added "Firewall" to the services. I continued with the following steps, but nowhere does it say to press the button "Start Firewall", so as of right now Firewall is listed, but not activated - it's gray and not green. Should I turn on the Firewall Service? In my setup, a cable modem/router is acting Firewall between WAN and LAN (small private home network).

I can't get Server Side File Tracking to work. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Here's what I've done:
1. Followed the instructions in "Mac OS X Server v10.6 - User Management" as per the first post in this thread.
2. Tried turning on the Firewall Service - resulting in clients unable to log in to their network accounts.
3. In Server Admin, under Firewall>Settings>Services, with 192.168-net selected in the pop-up menu entitled "Editing services for", I then chose "Allow all traffic" (instead of "Allow only traffic to these ports:") as my router acts as a Firewall in my setup. Now users can log in to their network accounts again, but Server Side File Tracking is still not working. How do I know it is not working?

On my clients, you can see it scan through the home directory before the file copying/syncing actually starts.

Acrobat 9 does not install after Microsoft ODBC Setup on windows server 2003

I recently downloaded Acrobat Reader 9 from Adobe website. The package was consisted of one file AdbeRdr90_en_US.exe with an appx. size of 33.4MB. When i double click this file Microsoft ODBC Setup is started instead of Adobe Acrobat Reader 9 setup. I clicked next and in the end receive ODBC has been successfully installed and after that Acrobat Reader 9 setup is never started. Tried several times but the same thing and unable to install the reader on this windwos server 2003+sp1.
Can anybody help me to resolve this problem?

Server-side connection pooling for clients in different VM's

We have a need to centeralize our connection pool manger.
Is there a server-side connection pooling manger product to allow multiple clients running in different VM's to connect to and share connection objects to the same Database?
e.g. An applet, and a swing and a servlet/web app application all running in different VM's will connect to this central connection pool manager and share connection objects to the same DB.
We are using connection pooling for all of our applications but each application is maintaining its own connection pool and it is becomming a nightmare to manage and configure each one.
Also, we have to have at a miniumum one connection open per application to access the database regardless of wether we are using connection pool or not. This means that 100 apps(running in different VM's) will use at minimum 100 connections... where all of these 100 apps will do just fine with just 10-15 connections.
while back we used T3 server but can't find this product on BEA web site any more.
does jdbc 2.2 or 3.0 have any server side pool management specs outlined?
Please HELP as we can't afford anymore licensing fees for our company.
oh.. We can't open and close connections on each query as they will be slow.

if i understand you question, i don't think this is possible, since the Connection interface (and basically all of the related jdbc interfaces) aren't Serializable.. so they can't be sent over the wire to your client(s).
However, you could feasibly write some server side connection pool, and some server side facade which will allow clients to submit queries (either SQL String's or however you want to do it - obviously a more elegant solution involves a series of classes which dynamically create sql based on query criteria), then the server can grab a connection, execute the query, cycle through the results and populate some result object of your creation and send that back over the wire to your client(s).

Server side buffering settings for video

I pump my video (both live streaming and VOD) through a popular CDN. They control the server side (FMS) settings. I can request that they change things and they do so and let me know when I can test.
I'm wondering about server side buffering settings. Is there supposed to be some sort of coordination between the buffering settings there and the client side buffering settings I implement in my video player?
The reason I ask is I get wierd buffering behaviors in my client side player under certain conditions and there doesn't seem to be much to adjust there other than the NetStream.bufferTime property.
For instance, if I set the bufferTime property in my client viewer to 10 seconds, the player just seems to ignore it and starts playing the stream right away or within a second or two. Other times I see crazy values in the bufferTime property, like 400 seconds (I check the property's value about every second).
I'm wondering if there are some FMS settings that are overriding or are not working well with my client side buffer settings. Is this possible?

This is a simple player. The simplest. No frills. Just insert your RTMP url to your FMS and your stream name in the string variables "rtmpURL" and "streamName" at the top, compile and run.
Here is a deployment of this player connected to my CDN where the file is currently playing:

Also, attached is an image I took when I ran the program and hit the refresh button in the browser. Note the giant bufferLength numbers in the debug panel.
Again note, I do not get this problem linking directly to a recorded file. I see this problem when playing a file on a server or with a live stream.

Help with ODBC setup for MySQL

I am having issues understanding what is needed for ODBC setup on OSX. I need to setup a MySQL connection. Are the drivers included on Snow Leopard or if not were can I get them. Are they free or do you have to purchase them. I keep find documentation that assumes to much. Would appreciate any help.
Will have to repeat this for my Lion server after I get this to work.

I have read through the Disk Setup page, and it has cleared up a couple of points.
Now, from what I understand - running the Media on a RAID 0 arrangement, doesn't seem to be a great idea due to no redundancy - however, I'm confused as to whether storing the media on 1 HDD would make for stable streaming of multiple streams of HD footage in Premiere sequence...
I found the comparison between the SSD & HDD interesting too, in the sense that running two large HDDs in RAID 0 for the Media Cache & Previews is actually 'quicker' than running them off a single SSD - and that no redundancy isn't so much of an issue here, as they're just the previews, not the actual media.
So, am I right in saying the setup below would offer a much more efficient solution than my current disk setup, whilst still keeping costs low by using software RAID, rather than buying large SSDs?
Disk 1: OS & Programs (SSD)
Disk 2: Media & Projects (HDD)
Disk 3/4: Media Cache & Previews (2x HDD in RAID 0)

I upgrade to windows 7 and my instant client connecting to oracle from ms Access stop working. Is there any documentation on how it works on windows 7. I use instant client and odbc cleint for xp.

Oracle Forms Dev/Serv 6i/Rel 2 for Windows 98/etc failed to install

Has anyone encountered problem when installing the download version of 'Oracle Forms Developer/Services 6i/Release 2 for Windows 98/NT/2000/XP' available in the OTN? I have successfully install Reports 6i but not Forms 6i. The error message that I get is "path:vrf(86): Unbound variable 'Path_too_long_prompt'". My laptop is on OS Windows98.

SQL Server 2012 Management Studio for Windows XP

Hi
I want to install SQL Server Management Studio 2012 on Windows XP. Is there anyway to install or is there any client we can use?
It is kind of limitation as we can't update OS on our machines.

SQL server 2012 even SQL client tools is not supported on Windows XP. But you can install SQL server 2012 management studio on 2012 I guess it would not stop you from istalling but you would run risk of running unsupported feature.

Setting up OS X 10.6 Server as a BDC for Windows Server 2003

Having some issues setting up an OS X server to act as a backup domain controller for Windows 2003 Server R2. I'm following the Apple document OpenDirectory_Adminv10.6.pdf.
On page 90, it says I have to first setup the OS X server as an Open Directory Replica. So I turn to page 87 and follow the instructions. It says SSH has to be available on both the OS X server and master OD, this being the Windows server. So I install openSSH on the Windows 2003 server, create the local group file and passwd file. I verify I can ssh into the Windows server from the OS X server as the Windows administrator account.
From a fresh OS X server install (all updates installed and DNS configured to point to the Windows server that is running DNS server service), I follow the steps on page 88 and get stuck at step 9. The configuration logs on OS X says "Removing replica because the replication credentials or suffix could not be determined. (error = 69)".
On the Windows 2003 server, I had to create an account called root. I gave it all the privileges that Administrator has. I couldn't even get past step 8 until I made this account.
Things I've tried:
Joining the OS X server to Active Directory as a member computer first. (fails both ways, joined and not joined first)
Adding the computer account for the OS X server to the Domain Controllers group in Windows
Not creating a computer account at all and not joining AD first.
I'm not sure what to do from here. Not sure if it's an ssh issue as Windows doesn't have a native ssh server service. I can ssh from a terminal window on OS X so I know ssh is working to some extent. Just not sure if it can get to wherever the replication scripts need to access.
Both the OS X server and Windows 2003 server are on the same sub-net without any firewalls.

AFAIK the "Magic Triangle" applies to an environment that also includes OSX Server providing mac-style GPOs - mostly. There's another option called "Cylinder of Destiny" that takes this slightly further although it's still essentially the same. Ultimately what you decide rests on what you want to achieve.
If all you want is SSO for Users working on mac workstations and nothing else, use what Apple provides in the Client OS. You don't necessarily need OSX Server.
It's even possible to alter the AD Schema itself and add Apple specific object classes, attributes and values to provide a means for managing users on mac workstations that way. Again you don't necessarily need OSX Server. In addition there are 3rd-Party solutions that don't involve OSX Server you could consider depending on budget and how hard you want to work? Likewise, Centrify and AdmitMAC are three I can think of.
There's plenty of documentation all over the internet on how to achieve Integration. Its been going on for a few years now. Ultimately how 'successful' it all is will rest primarily on how well your AD is configured. Apple's built-in Active Directory Plug-in in many ways assumes an 'out-of-the-box' AD and ideally an environment that follows Microsoft's Best Practices for AD. I've yet to see one AD that fits that criteria. In some rare cases Integration may not even be possible. You won't really know until you try.

Can I use my Server 2012 r2 key for Windows 8?

Right now I am using Server 2012, but as a desktop/gaming OS. I have been getting a bunch of DirectX and xinput errors lately so I wanted to know if my key could be used for Windows 8.1. I got the key through DreamSpark if it matters.

It doesn't really matter where you got it, a server product key cannot be used to install a client OS. Where were you planning to get the installation media for 8.1?
In any case, the server edition which corresponds to 8.1 is server 2012R2. Server 2012 corresponds to Windows 8.

Support for Windows Authentication in SQL Server Plug-in

I can't find anything in the documentation, or maybe my eyes are subconsciously skipping over the section. Does the 3.2.3.1.0 SQL Server plug-in support Windows Authentication? We have stopped using Mixed-Mode in our SQL Server 2005 Databases.

Not as such, but you can always manage them through worksheet statements.
You can request this at the SQL Developer Exchange though, so other users can vote and add weight for possible future implementation.
