Interactive Street Map in Flash

Hi all,
I'm trying to design an interactive street map for my website
and I would like to do it in Flash. Ideally I would love to have it
looking something like this;

Can anyone point me in the right direction for tutorials on
how to do this ?

Interactive US Map

We currently have an HTML based map at this address:

We would like to recreate this map in Flash but I'm having
trouble with button/link interactivity. I am not proficient in
Flash and would like to know the best way to make the text link on
the right (i.e. Atlanta, GA), when hovered over, make the dot light
up on the map (and vice versa).
I am trying to stay away from linear keyframes and use
primarily ActionScript to control both the city dot button symbol
as well as the text link button symbol. Both the dot and the link
need to highlight when hovered over and both need to go to a web
address when clicked.
I've created both as buttons with over states that change
color and have them pointing to a web address. I just can't figure
out how, if I hover over one, to make the other over state show as
well.
Any ideas?

No, actually, I'm creating a purple circle for the city (i.e.
Atlanta), making that into a button, assigning an over state so the
color is yellow, and making the Hit state go to a web address.
I'm doing the same for the text link on the right for that
city.
What I want to do is when I hover over the text link (i.e.
Atlanta, GA), I want the purple city circle representing the city
on the map to turn yellow (which is the over state of the button).
Basically, I want a button, when hovered over, to control the
look of the other button. In this case, activate the over state as
if the dot AND the text link both had the mouse hovering over them
simultaneously.

Hi, I've been researching embedding google maps in Flash and have followed the Google Maps API developers guide (after downlaoding and installing the SDK and generating a key). I'm currently using the foloowing code,m but it doesnt seem to work I'm not even seeing the map, and Im getting errors relating to the controls elements I've added. Can anyone help?

Hi there. I downloaded the SDK myself and managed to solve your problem. It's because of your imports.
First of all make sure the .swc file is in your library ( found in the lib folder called "map_1_18" )
(Whilst in Flash) Press Ctrl+U to open up the preferences, then go to the Actionscript category and select "AS3 settings"
Press the red button to browse to your .swc file.
Also have the SDK in your directory.
Then change your imports to this;

import com.google.maps.MapType;
import com.google.maps.controls.*;
You forgot to add one, and also you were importing the Controls folder and not the contents. ...And your map should debug perfectly. Happy Mapping!

Google Maps for Flash in AIR for Android: ~2 minutes to start up

I have a "Hello World" style AIR for Android app using Flash Builder 4 Burrito/Flex Hero.
When debugging on device (stock HTC Desire) using Flex version v1.20 of Google Maps for Flash (map_flex_1_20.swc), it takes 1 minute and 50 seconds for the app to startup to display a simple map:Map3D on the home screen. The same app without the map:Map3D object starts in just a few seconds.
There are no startup delays using the simulator.
Anyone know what might be causing the severe startup delay when running on device?

You'll need to add a valid Google Maps API key and corresponding URL back into the maps:Map3D object:

This shows the same behaviour as described above - around 2 minutes to start up when debugging on the device.

How to create slick maps in Flash?

Admiring the new Flash maps I see on the web and wondering how I can make my flash map look as slick?
I can make decent maps in flash but would like to make transparent windows, slick dropdowns, etc.
I am not asking you to explain it all but if you could simply point me to a book or online resource I would be very grateful!

And what business do you have on a forum where noobs ask for advice? To point to google?

Google earth like map in flash

I am studying land surveying and cartography and I am doing my final project. I am trying to make a google earth like map in Flash.I allready have the map , in the form of swf files. the idea is that when the user will scroll, an swf is going to be substituted with another one Can anyone give me any hints on how to do it?

If you want to have one swf replqace another then you probably want to use some form of loader. Which form you use is up to you, but the most basic is simply the Loader class. A loader is only able to load/hold one loaded object at a time, but you can reload it with other content and replace what is there as you wish.
You should Google "AS3 Loader tutorial" to get an idea of how to load external files (such as swf's).

Google maps for flash been Deprecated !

Hello. i just wana notify the comunity about a serious step tooken from google to kill the maps for flash, because seems like they can not handle them.
I would like to hear Adobe opinion - can Adobe do their developers a favor and asign a programmers to took close deal with google and continue the maps for flash ?
This is not a simple issue, it will be a vital for the future development of many things connected to Adobe and Google.
Please consider the question carefully.

Street maps - can't add street maps n97 mini

Hi , I recently downloaded the new ovi maps free navigation on my n97 mini and installed fine but now ii am stuck, it wont let me add the street maps, l have tried getting them via wi-if but after checking for updates on the server for 5mins it says could not find any or something along those line and l have tried for day.
Then l tried using the ovi suite but went l go to maps after it has asked me which memory l want to use and l chose phone memory 7gb free, then it say error has occurred please restart your laptop or re-install the PC suite and l have done all that and still says the same thing . Please help!!

Haven't got a Windows laptop around to try as primarily a Mac user, but if both WiFi and Ovi Suite methods won't work it's more likely to be your set up on N97Mini!
You are ensuring that both Ovi Maps application upon N97 Mini and Ovi Suite have been set to look for either E:\ mass memory or F:\ memory card? For Ovi Maps on N97 Mini you have to exit application and start again for any changes to be recorded.

Finding shortest way in street map

Hello.
I have street map in Oracle Spatial.
Now i want to find a shortest way between two points.
It can be done with Dijkstra algorithm.
Is Oracle Spatial have such tools (algorithms) included ?
If not, is it possible and of course resonable to write it in
C++/Java and add it to oracle as module ?

There are certainly applications written that do routing using spatial data stored in Oracle Spatial.
This functionality does not currently exist in Oracle Spatial.

Interactive USA map

Hi,
I have USA map designed in illustrator.
Now I want to use this map in flash CS5 and create a flex component.
How to import the map and convert each state as a flex component. so that when i click on a state, the particular state will be zoomed.

You'll need to import your .ai file onto the stage in Flash. Before importing, setup your states so they are each an individual layer in Illustrator with layer names equal to the State's name. Make sure you import each state as a seperate movie clip. Once they are imported, you'll be able to set their instance names equal to the state name.

Once everything is in Flash it might be good to group all the states into one movie clip. This way you can simply scale the whole parent (all us states) centered over each state that is clicked.

Maps 3.0 and Iceland street map

Hi there!
I just dowloaded Ovi Maps 3.0 on my 5230 and it works fine. But I'm in Iceland and I thought that there was supposed to be street maps of Iceland in there somewhere.
In the ad from Ovi on youtube f.x. they show a map of countries that have been mapped and Iceland is on that map but I just can't find it. All I can see is names of towns and cities and the main roud around Iceland but no more than that. But when I navigate to London f.x. I get all the streets and street names.
Can anyone please help me?
(and yes I know Iceland isn't that big so I should not get lost but GPS can come in handy here like anywhere else)

Any update for this.. I'm on an E52 now but I'll be getting the N8 when it arrives and having the GPS for Iceland is just the best feature in the phone really, it's a small place but c'mon lets crush the competition and give Icelanders maps too

Attempting to create an interactive map with flash - getting errors with my actionscript

I'm currently having an issue creating a set of buttons that are supposed to turn individual layers on and off. The layers I have are: fishing spots, facilities, trails, map elements, an aerial photo, and parking lots. It is giving error #s 1119 and 1120. Could anyone explain possible reasons I'm getting these errors.
It might be worth mentioning that I used a tutorial made with Flash CS4, but I'm writing the code in CS5. Here is the exact code I'm using:

yes, for as3, there's an api for flash. check the google docs.
for as2, you can purchase (or they may be a free) google component or, use javascript and the flash externalinterface class.

I can't open the Weather Channel's interactive radar map that I've always been able to open in the past.

Up until a few days ago, I've always been able to view The Weather Channels Interactive Local Weather Map for my area. Now it won't open the map and asks if I want to refresh. It still doesn't open. The site works fine on my other computers.
Just wondering if it was something I did by accident that changed something.

If you have Flash Block installed, try uninstalling it. When I had the same issue, I first tried white listing the Weather Channel site in the Flash Block options. When that didn't work, I tried disabling Flash Block. When that didn't work, I uninstalled Flash Block, and the maps worked fine. I'm guessing that there is some incompatibility between the most recent versions of Adobe Flash, Flash Block, and the Weather Channel site.
