Interesting Support Respo

Some of you may know that I am having a bit of an issue with getting my Micro to sync with Outlook 2003. It won't sync anything at all I started a CL-Technical Support Request in mid February and have had several rather unsatisfactory responses from reinstalling the firmware to being asked to install versions of firmware and media explorer that were not designed to work together to being told that this issue would be addressed in a future firmware release to the latest and this is the "best". I am now being told:
"I double checked with the European Product Dept and there is no confirmation this feature will be implemented in the next firmware."
What type of message is this? Now are they telling me that the advertised feature (and one of its main selling points in my book) is not going to be implemented? Shouldn't this feature already be "implemented" and if so shouldn't CL-Support be working with me to resolve this issue?
If one of the Moderators could comment and maybe advise me how to get a more successful resolution from the CL-Support staff.

I am having the same problems....only I can't even get mine to come on. I have only had this thing for like 5 months.....if I would have known I was gonna have this many problems.... I would have went with another brand. And it would really help if I could get someone to give me a straight answer when I call! I am SOSOSO irritated!!

  • Power problems and a question about Zen support respo

I have a Zen Micro 8gb player and unfortunately I can now be added to the list of users with Battery/charging issues. I've tried all the troubleshooting steps I can find here and none resolved my problem. Resetting does not help, nor does charging via USB/AC Adapter, I've tried switching adapters, etc. I've never had this issue before.
The problem started a few days ago when I plugged my Zen in like normal to charge - it was completely dead - and after several few hours of charging, I was still unable to turn my device on. I plug the charger in and the device does recognize it, it powers on and I get the blue light and "Creative" logo on the screen. Then the little battery icon flashes between the green "charging" icon and the red "empty battery" icon. It will go on like this for hours. Normally it would only take an hour or two to charge but now I can leave it charging for an entire day then it goes dead right after I unplug it.
My question is - based on user experience here - whether it's probably my battery or my device that is defecti've. This was a gift and I'm sure it is out of warranty, not that I'd be able to get the receipt even if it was. I've already emailed customer care. I'm just wondering what people's general overall experience has been with support and if it's even worth trying to go through the support channels to get it fixed. Thanks in advance.

  • HT3964 my MacBook pro 3.1 won't switch on.

When pressing the power switch, nothing happens. No screen, no fan, no disk noise. The power adapter is orange at the connector and the battery has for stay and one flashing light.
When holding the power the adaptor turns green.
I have tried holding for twenty second,
I have tried an smc  reset.
    If anyone can help...

  • New Zealand DSL-504G - User did not respond

I'm having the same issue with a modem in NZ, the DSL-504G ... however I have assigned myself a static ip from the modem of 10.1.1.4. (sorry i accidentally posted this in ichat 2.1 forum without realising, will delete double up)
It still doesn't appear to be working, I was testing with Defcom1 and it appears all my other settings are correct.
I am running 10.4.6, on a powerbook G4 ... all latest updates. Mac firewall is off, I set the quicktime speed to 112 kps, I have a fast DSL connection here at home. Ichat I have the bandwidth limit set to None.
This is the modem config page is anyone can notice any mistakes ....
I have installed the latest firmware, and this modem does not have Upnp functionality.
I have opened both UDP and TCP for those ports as it says in portforward.com ... I tried being specific on putting either TCP and UDP dependingly but it made no difference.
I noticed on the portforwarding website that it says to leave the private ip to 0 ... but on the dlink website it says to make private ip the port I am opening, will try that and see if it makes a difference.
    http://www.dlink.com.au/tech/Download/download.aspx?product=DSL-504GNZ&revision=REVD&filetype=Firmware
This is the support page for my modem, is had a PDF document a few links down which has options for filtering ... is this neccesary?? I might have a tinker with that and see, as i seem to have exausted every avenue ....
There was an interesting support doc for the Xbox to get ports open and I assume that would be very similar to getting the ports open on this modem for ichat ... I have followed them and come up with no result.
Ralph, Defcom1 any ideas?? or anyone else for that matter! Help!

  • PowerMac AGP G4 and Wireless N ?

HI, I have a AGP G4 that i would like to use as a backup server at home. is it possible to add wireless N to it either via PCI or USB? Thanks

In principle, yes. However, special drivers would be needed in both cases, meaning that you have to check whether the item of interest supports your operating system version.
Otherwise, a good alternative is to connect a wireless Ethernet bridge to the Ethernet port of the computer. A wireless Ethernet bridge (also known as a gaming or media adapter) does not (normally) need special driver software, and can be used under almost any operating system. You can find bridge devices from several manufacturers (for example, Linksys WET610N or WUMC710 and Netgear WNCE2001).

  • Can I select nonconsecutive pages in the Firefox dialog box?

The only options I see are print all or print a range. Let's saycI want to print pages 2,4,6-7 and 9. Is there a way to do that without having to select print several times?

I'm afraid I don't think this is currently possible in Firefox. I can't find an add-on that would enable this feature.
There is a bug open here where users have requested this feature:

  • Helping iPhone App Customers with questions

I have had five people e-mail me that they can't get my app to make a sound - only to find out they had the phone on mute! Anyone else getting interesting support emails as a part of being on the App store?

On the bottom of the page within every app on the app store is a little link called Terms of Sale - if you click on it - this is what you see:
    TERMS OF SALE
    U.S. SALES ONLY
Purchases or rentals (as applicable) from the iTunes Store are available only in the United States and are not available in any other location. You agree not to use or attempt to use the iTunes Store from outside of the available territory. Apple may use technologies to verify such compliance.
    SALES TO END USERS ONLY
The iTunes Store sells and rents (as applicable) products ("Products") to end user customers only.
    REFUND POLICY
All Sales and rentals (as applicable) are final.
So it sounds like to me that Apple will not allow us to do refunds through them. The problem with us issuing refunds is that we really have no proof that they bought our app. It's not like I have a list of users that bought any of my apps. Anyone can click on the support link on iTunes and tell us they bought our app and find a reason to want a refund.

  • News on PR1.3 and MeeGo

Long post, have bolded the particularly relevant parts (i.e. N900)
    http://meego.com/community/blogs/harrihakulinen/2010/meego-calling-n900
    Hello aMeeGos,
After many busy months of MeeGo development, we have finally come to a stage that justifies proud blogging around our MeeGo for N900 adaptation project. As you may already suspect, or have heard from IRC or discussion forums, we now have 3G audio call functionality with proper ofono signaling and pulse audio stack working on N900, including our brand new open source modem adaptation for N900!
The achievement was possible because of extensive co-operation between our MeeGo N900 adaptation team and Nokia's Telephony and Audio team. Special thanks for this goes to people like Kai Vehmanen, Ameya Palande, Pekka Pessi, Jyri Sarha, Jouni Peltonen, and Sami Sirkiä. There has been a lot of work done around this topic by many people, I am not even aware of many of them, so a big thanks to everyone.
At this point, I need to remind you about the basics: MeeGo is an open source project and if you choose to install the MeeGo image to your N900 device, you do it completely at your own risk. If you are not confident that you know what you are doing with it and why, please don't use it at all. Especially now, if you start playing with call software under development, you need to watch after your phone bill, as well. Also, please use the latest repositories only, or the next weekly image that is downloadable from the MeeGo repositories every Monday.
There has been huge amount of work done in all areas during the summer and fall. Ameya Palande, Carsten Munk, and Marko Saukko managed to handle kernel updates, x-server update, Compiler update, SGX update, and so on. We are now running .35rc5 kernel with support for most devices on N900. Markus Lehtonen fixed the BME for us, so now we have battery loading working. There was also a bug in the wlan driver that was relatively hard to find. After Carsten had proven his theory about the bug, we got good support from Teleca Russia. Big thanks for Juri and others there for fixing that.
Later, during the fall, we have had hard time with some sticky bugs, and filling some smallish but time consuming holes in MeeGo core implementation. One of the hardest ones was the fight with the fennec browser. The ARM compilation of it proved to be especially tricky with the version of gcc compiler that we are using in MeeGo. After weeks of work, it now somewhat works, but we can’t get the latest version onboard before some nasty gcc compiler bugs are patched on MeeGo.
On the Maemo side, there have been interesting, supporting developments going on, as well. The PR 1.3 update is quite close now, and with that you can easily dual boot between Maemo and Meego on your N900. There is also a possibility of developing applications supporting both operating systems, based on Qt and Qt Mobility APIs on the Maemo side. It means that you can develop once in PC with Qt Creator, and test your applications on both Maemo and MeeGo, directly on your N900 device!
In July, Carsten was acting as N900 maintainer when I was on holiday. By now, it is obvious that he has done so much and fixed so many issues in the project, that he has earned that position officially. So, I am proud to announce that we will propose Carsten as the official N900 maintainer for MeeGo in the next TSG meeting. I am fully confident that he is the best single person on this planet to handle that position. Carsten is, of course, doing this fully supported by Nokia (financially and otherwise), but any individual person, like you, may request this important position.
I will continue as team leader for our MeeGo for N900 project, as I did previously. Clearly, technical responsibility for most of the issues related to MeeGo on N900 transfers gradually to Carsten, and I will help him as well as I can from inside Nokia.
We are now in last phase of MeeGo 1.1 finalization, focusing on fixing final release blocker bugs, making sure that everything that is in already actually works, and that the user experience of the first MeeGo version with the Handset UX is good. Creating this version is important because it gives developers, especially handset application developers, a relatively stable ground for stating their work.
At the same time, development of the MeeGo 1.2 release has already started. On N900 side, we will continue by integrating some interesting stuff from the latest Nokia and development repositories, including, SGX drivers, camera stack, and accelerated video decoders. We are trying to keep the 1.2 version as usable as possible, but during development, some images will work better than others, as usual.
Also, keep in mind the MeeGo conference in Dublin in mid-November. As you can see from the title of my talk, I am expecting a bright future for MeeGo on N900!
See you there, with MeeGo on N900,
    Harri

MeeGo 1.1 will be released on October 27, see MeeGo Wiki. Excerpt:
Technical Steering Group meetings/Handset UX update 10-13-10
This will be an update on the MeeGo Handset UX 1.1 and 1.2 releases.
As a background, the MeeGo Handset UX project is run by the Handset project as defined in MeeGo governance and it's status can be best followed at wiki.meego.com/Handset_Program.
MeeGo 1.1 is almost there and final release is targeting to Oct 27. Let's discuss the focus of the last mile here.
MeeGo 1.2 planning is also well under way. We have a set of requirements set for planning to 1.2 and available in Featurezilla at 1.2 Handset Features. The plan is to address new Handset UX functionalities, like Camera and furthermore improve the Handset 1.1 feature set within existing applications.
The next phase is to form a detailed release plan out of the 1.2 Features these, targeting to a final release in April 2011.

  • .Mac support not interested - what next?

Hi, I posted a series of posts two weeks ago when experiencing problems with publishing iWeb having taken out a full year's membership of .Mac. Despite a few emails consequently from the .Mac support customer care team, no solution was found. After several days waiting for help, I got an email from Vicki on 17 October saying my problem had been 'escalated' to .Mac Support Engineering. I have heard nothing since, despite sending Support Engineering several emails politely requesting that they get in touch. I then got another email from Tony at .Mac support thanking me for my patience but saying Support Engineering will respond. It's now the best part of 10 days since Support Engineering were supposed to get in touch. Yet not a word or call. I can't call anyone because Apple dont' use 'phones. And .Mac Support Engineering steadfastedly refuse to get in contact by email. Yet I'm still paying for .Mac membership! Fully paid up, in fact!
What do I do now? And what sort of 'service' is this?
    Any suggestions welcome!
    Adrian, London

thanks varkgirl for your post - i read through the collection of posts you assembled re publishing, but I'm not at all confident that I'm getting closer to a solution.
I wonder if I could run my question by you and others in the forum in hopes that someone can point me in a fruitful direction.
I did following to troubleshoot, using a test group of photos:
    l. Confirmed I'm using IWeb 1.1.1
    2. Published to a folder
    3. Uploaded to iDisk
    4. Republished all Pages to .Mac
That's when I received an error message - "Error occurred while publishing NW photos to your site . . . "
    5. I did not go further with Network troubleshooting.
    6. My internet setup is through sbcglobal.net, DSL modem, router between 2 home computers. Haven't tried other computer in local network.
Several days agoI thought I had successfully published a photo page to my site because I was able to access from my computer, but my friends who received the link I sent reported that they could access the page. Could you try to access this link? http://web.mac.com/momorris/iWeb/MA/Hetch%20Hetchy.html
Also, how do I publish a particular photo selection to my .Mac website without having it be linked to all the other web pages I've created?
Any help you can provide would be most helpful. This is my first attempt at the discussion forum so I'm interested to see how it works since my call to Technical Support (applecare account) wasn't productive.
    Thanks,
    Mo

  • Speed dropped by 20Mbps.. support not interested

BT Wholesale checker estimates that I should receive 53.3Mbps.
When I first had Infinity installed I was consistently achieving above 67Mbps with no problems. Great!
Unfortunately, as my line developed a line fault the day before the day of the install, I chose to let the engineer arrive, on the hope he could fix the line fault and install Infinity. The engineer said he was "not a voice engineer" so just connected everything up, acknowledged that there was an issue and left. As soon as he left, I quickly unplugged the modem and left it off until I knew the line fault had been fixed.
The line fault was fixed in 48hrs and I was able to enjoy 67Mbps for a few weeks when the line fault returned. As a result the line speed slowed. Originally, dropping me from 67Mbps to 55Mbps. The engineer said the line profile would reset automatically after the fault was fixed.. however it has never recovered. The speed has since dropped again to 41Mbps.
This is taking the biscuit really, considering I know I can achieve at least the promised 53.3Mbps!! some 20Mbps more than I currently can achieve.
The uptimes between syncs are always well above the 5 week mark, so I don't believe it's due to frequent disconnects. As far as I'm aware there are no issues with the line, (I certainly can't hear any crackle or hiss on the phone), but people ringing the house do complain that I am very "quiet", so I tend not to use it. This, and the SNR tends to drop 2-3dB when the phone is off the hook.
I've called support whose stance is essentially.. "You are within the limits of your estimated speed" and that is it. No further help. They aren't interested that I know the line is capable of above 55Mbps, only that 41Mbps is "acceptable". I'd take 53Mbps all day long, as anything more was a bonus.. but I'm not happy with knowing I've dropped over 20Mbps due to a line fault outside of my control, and they aren't even willing to help reset the line.
    /rant
e: It's probably best to mention that I only have 1 master socket, so the line comes direct underground to the socket under the stairs, and in to the openreach modem. I use an Asus RT-N66U as a wireless router, but the house is wired with Cat6. All speedtests are completed on a PC on the wired gigabit network to rule out wireless issues.

Welcome to BT (maybe) Infinity (sometimes), as with most of these posts, and I am sorry if I offer now help to your problem what so ever, it will be swept under the carpet and forgotten, if BT said what they have said that is all you will get, end off.
Personally I was promised a gaming quality connection, its been s..hit since December 2012, and if your ping is not over 100 ms they will do nothing, if your speed is not below 16Mbps they will do nothing.
It's all in the small print.
Also I/you will be hit by the guru's for speaking the truth (out of line) about the situation.
Rant over , swept away by BT, and forgotten.
    What's slow about FTTC........DLM

  • Willey Plus does not support iPads.  Isn't this a selling point Apple should be interested in correcting

Wiley Plus is a ebook site students use to purchase product keys to access books online.  Using my iPad2 for the first time this semester I didn't realize the iPad was not supported.  Contacted the Wiley Plus support and they confirmed this.  I would think Apple would be interested in correcting this issue for students the world over, seeing as this will be the medium students will use in the future for study.
    thanks.

Yep. I just brought home my brand new iPad 2, and my heart sank when I saw that WileyPlus isn't compatible. It's particularly frustrating because part of my justification for buying the iPad was that it would be useful for school (well, among other more fun things) and a bit more comfortable than reading from a laptop. I would hope this isn't a matter of brand competition, as Wiley is a requirement by my professor, not just some random vendor I picked as an e-reader. Oh well. Wiley does have some apps for iPad, so maybe they're working on a solution.

  • I am trying to use sites on the internet which require Adobe Flash Player, but when I click on the free download, it says that Apple does not support this application, so I cannot use it.  This stops me viewing quite a few interesting things.  Any ideas?

I am trying to use sites on the internet which require Adobe Flash Player, and when I click for a free download it says that "it is not available for your device because of restrictions that Apple has put in place".  Any suggestions on how to overcome this?

Flash is not, and probably never will be, supported on the iPad : http://www.apple.com/hotnews/thoughts-on-flash/ . Plus it would be up to Adobe to make a version of their flash player that works on iOS devices, something which they have never managed to do and which they have now given up on trying to do.
Browser apps such as Skyfire, iSwifter and Puffin 'work' on some sites, but judging by their reviews not all sites. Also some websites, especially news sites, have their own apps in the App Store, so your could try checking there for your sites (and there is the built-in YouTube app).

  • I am interested to know if, or when, linux will be a supported platform for the iCalendar Server?

There is no plug-in for Lightroom 4 that would ever give you support for the new camera. Lightroom does not use Camera Raw. Camera Raw is a plug-in for Photoshop and Photoshop Elements. If you want support for your camera in Lightroom you will need to upgrade to Lightroom 5, and then wait for the 5.6 update which should be available within next few weeks (unless Lightroom 6 is introduced). In the meantime you can use the DNG converter (version 8.6 RC) to create DNG copies of your raw images that you would be able to open in Lightroom 4.
